Rebel Transmissions: Trials Of The Darksaber

First of all, I apologize for the delay on this one. Life just gets busy man. I’m figuring my posts from here on out’ll be weekend things, at least for a while. But there’s no way I’ll stop writing ’bout my Rebels, especially with an episode like this. Let’s dig in and dissect the beautiful, rich episode known as Trials Of The Darksaber.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from TCW episodes The Mandalore Plot and Shades Of Reason, and Rebels episodes Imperial Supercommandos, Visions And Voices, and Trials Of The Darksaber

So! The Darksaber! It’s a big deal. A very very big deal. A bigger deal than I’d ever realized, even with years of SW experience under my belt. I happened to have rewatched The Mandalore Plot a few days ago, and it amazed me realizing how far that little black blade has gone since then. To hear Pre Vizsla talk of its history, boasting of how many Jedi have died by it, doesn’t evoke any sense of honor. That’s just Pre for you tho he’s sorta kinda a lot arrogant. Fenn Rau’s version of the story has a lot more going for it, telling of the Mando-Jedi who forged the unique weapon and the symbol of power it became to all of Mandalore. Oh my gravy the epicness. The animation they used for the backstory was just all kinds of wow. Though for many of my readers the notion of a Mando-Jedi wasn’t new, it was mind-blowing for me. I once joked that, considering the generally difficult relationship between the supercommandos and the Force-wielders, Mando blood and large numbers of midichlorians were “akin to oil and water” (Rebel Transmissions: The Protector Of Concord Dawn 2/6/16). The prospect of Mando-Jedi has always been cool but I had no clue how it’d work in a canon sense. Well… apparently it did. Get me a canon novel on Tar Vizsla stat! Fenn is majorly impressed Sabine was able to find it, after all, the one who wields ‘saber could unite all of Mandalore. But apparently Sabine hasn’t touched it since Dathomir…
Also wow every time I turn around, our resident artist has made my new favorite painting! Most kawaii family portrait ever! Love that she drew Ezra looking a tad uncomfortable caught in Zeb’s brohug; she’s still not gonna give him a respectful artistic rendering XD I admit I got a little distracted from the feels at hand looking at the art all over her quarters. Tbh I was really hoping to spot her Cad Bane and Embo doodles but either we don’t see those angles of the room or she took those down in favor of some new masterpieces. Sabine’s surrounded by color, but all feels blue and gray right now as she heads to a meeting. Also Chopper kind of “purring” elicited quite an “awww…” from me. I believe that was Chop’s way of showing some compassion. He doesn’t do it a lot so it’s totally totally precious. She goes into this meeting with her mind already made up; she’s not about to learn how to use the Darksaber. Far as she’s concerned it’s done too much harm and there’s no way she could unite her clan for the mini-Alliance’s cause. OK so this was one of many many things in this episode that surprised me and intrigued me. I wasn’t sure Sabine even knew what the blade was, let alone its significance. It makes sense in retrospect though considering the value Mandos place on their history. Beyond that, I had no idea she’d be so very against it (I mean, she did choose to take it home), but like say, I had no idea really of its significance either. Even Ezra doesn’t know if giving her a lightsaber is ideal without aid of the Force. Pff I love that he makes himself out like an expert when he’s totally not XP Kanan, Hera, and Fenn all know though that learning to wield it would make a galaxy of difference right now. So, reluctantly, the fierce little Wren takes the hilt…
Training begins once Kanan, Sabine, and Ezra set up camp far off from the base (“…you’ll do less damage out here.” “I’ll damage your face if you don’t shut up” XD ). And Kanan starts her off with sticks. Y’know if I recall Kanan started Ezra out on an actual lightsaber (Granted, Ez did nearly spear Master Jarrus in the face when he first turned it on… but then again, Sabine already knows how to ignite the Darksaber, so that wouldn’t be an issue). And I mean, dude! We’ve seen an actual training mode on lightsabers! I don’t think even tiny younglings in the Temple started off with sticks! Sabine’s confident in her skills with a stick, but Kanan downs her pretty fast, so Ezra takes over for her training buddy. Though Sabine doesn’t appreciate it much, I love watching Ezra teach her. He doesn’t know it all himself, but perhaps that honesty of not knowing everything makes him a more relatable teacher than Master Jarrus right now. Hera’s not sure what Kanan’s doing with this brand of training, but I kinda get the feeling Kanan’s not entirely sure either. He wants to do things differently with Sabine, but days later he’s still not feeling like she’s improved enough to handle the real thing. Sabine gets a little bit of a leg up when Fenn gives her a pair of genuine fully-loaded Mandalorian vambraces, but not for long around Master Jarrus. Understandably, she was kind of completely done with him after that and ventured off for some alone time. It gave me some serious massive feels watching Ezra try and encourage her, but there’s more to her frustration than merely Kanan’s teaching methods. How’s a traitor like herself supposed to go back to her family and lead her clan? *Cries forever* Also, interesting that the Bendu was there all along. Wonder what he’s thinkin…?
And so the feels continued to wreck me when we spent a moment with Kanan and Hera. Half the feels are due to the fact I still adore how honest and raw they are with each other. The other half has a lot to do with this glimmer of real pain from the past. “Remember how hard it was for her to trust us…” *cries again* Continuing in her tradition of bosslady mic-dropping wisdom, Hera gives it to him straight that the only way for Kanan to succeed in training Sabine is to just give her that Darksaber. He does that, and she’ll open up and face her demons on her own. Seriously OMG they wrote this so well I rewatched the scene again just now to make sure I was getting everything right. You go Captain Syndulla! πŸ™‚
Safe to say Sabine was unprepared for what awaited her when she got back. Kanan finally handed her the Darksaber’s hilt, ready to start again with his student. Like Ezra and Fenn, I was quickly on the edge of my seat (and later on, unable to sit down). The swordfight is intense and really quite mesmerizing between Kanan and Sabine’s moves. Sabine handles her blade super-well for her first go at it, while Kanan absolutely wows me with his teaching skills and his connection to the Force. And every minute is a further reminder of the Darksaber’s incredible legacy. The weapon terrifying in the hands of Pre Vizsla and destructive in the hands of Maul now has the potential to heal in the hands of Sabine Wren. But all of this is merely practice, and Kanan can tell she’s still not putting her all into this. There’s more going on in this fight than just the swords. It’s Sabine fighting her hurt, her fear, her past, and the uncertainty of the future. Oh my gosh you guys when she started bearing her soul like that… my heart just shattered into pieces. You’re lying if you tell me you didn’t cry at the very least on the inside. I will say a lot of her story surprised me. (Forgive me I’m about to break up this feelyness for a second with some SW contemplating) I had utterly no idea that her family hurt her so bad. From all that Gar Saxon had mentioned in Imperial Supercommandos, I got a very different impression than what is actually the truth. I’d assumed, based on what he’d said about her mother, that because Mrs. Wren was with the Empire as of recent, that meant she hadn’t been supportive of it before, that as well as Sabine’s comment “…I doubt you gave her much choice”. But this new information seems to negate that, revealing her family had evidently always been pro-Empire, meaning perhaps that Mrs. Wren is actually higher-ranking Imperial, or even a Supercommando like Saxon. I literally watched that episode the other day in hopes of getting some facts straight and I’m still not totally certain of what her mother’s allegiances mean as versus the rest of her family and clan Vizsla. I suppose these are things we’ll find out soon enough. (next week maybe hopefully?) Either way, I’ve truly seen her story in a completely new light. And whatever happens, whatever she chooses, whatever her blood family and her clan think… her thicker-than-blood family will stand by her and with her. You know I had a totally different really deep thought that came to mind earlier, but I can’t remember it now. But I did come upon this really nifty thought: Fenn Rau came to fully join the Rebels’ cause because he respected Sabine’s loyalty to a family not her own. If the rest of clan Vizsla can see the fierce loyalty and heart she has for both her family and her people… I think they’ll find a reason to follow, with the blade, or without.
OK whew that was a lot of thoughts to organize there! Augh I just love this episode!! It’s so great just taking time away from the missions to just focus on these amazing amazing characters and their story at the heart of it all. We’ll talk some Freemakers next week and then the Transmissions’ll be back πŸ˜€ Now if you’ll excuse me there are some massive feels I’m going to need to work on recovering from…

TIM Recap: Rule Of Thirty-Two

It’s that time of year again, friends…. the This Is Madness Star Wars Character Tournament is in full swing! It’s a lot of fun to participate in something of this sort since basketball’s not in my wheelhouse, but it’s not without difficulty. I mean, picking favorites is not one of my strong suits, especially when I love all the SW characters! Last year I chronicled all my votes on tumblr, but for this year, I’ve decided to recap all of my votes here, since some of my explanations can get pretty wordy πŸ™‚ So without further ado, my votes for the Rule Of 32! And remember, I love all these guys equally, really, so if you don’t agree with my vote, just remember we’re really on the same page still.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode I, Episode III, Episode IV, Episode VI, TCW episodes The Mandalore Plot, Sphere Of Influence, Nightsisters, Wookiee Hunt, Brothers, Revival, the “D-Squad” story arc, Shades Of Reason, The Lawless, Voices, Rebels episodes Spark Of Rebellion, Droids In Distress, Idiot’s Array, and Fire Across The Galaxy.

DAY ONE: HERA VS. LEIA/INQUISITOR VS. GRIEVOUS.

I was super-excited for TIM this year because this year the Rebels would get to join in! But I guess I never thought as to what it’d be like to have to choose between amazing heroes from the SW films and these new amazing heroes from Rebels. Usually, my method is to choose the hero based on their amount of impact on the SW Galaxy or on the other character. But dang… it’s a lot harder than it looks!
For Rebels, I ended up choosing Leia. In all technicality, Hera’s probably made a teensy bit more impact, as she’s technically Leia’s boss in this situation. But man… I just couldn’t go up against “her worship”! I suppose a lot of it’s because we’ve seen how awesome Leia commands her fellow Rebels through some of the biggest events in SW history. And she’s Anakin and Padme’s daughter and Luke’s sister so that also gave her a bit of a leg up. Leia won, which doesn’t surprise me, and I bet Hera’s proud of her πŸ™‚
For Bad Guys, I ended up giving the vote to The ‘Quiz here. I was a little surprised in some ways that Grievous won. My method for Dark Side votes usually is on account of who’s the badder, but in a way it just seems like I’m oftentimes picking the “cooler” of the two. Now yeah there’s no doubt Grievous is a lean, mean, lightsaber-slashing machine, and I’ve certainly voted for him a good bit in the past two tournaments. Considering how absolutely in-your-face nasty the General is, you’d think he’dve had my vote. But The Inquisitor… he’s got class! He’s just as menacing, even without two less ‘sabers on hand, and he does it all with this seriously chilling flair! I think there’s something to be said for the way he does things as versus Grievous… a quiet evil that isn’t always so quietly evil. Ah well, somehow that came out an underdog vote, but no hard feelings to the General.

DAY TWO: QUI-GON VS. YODA/JANGO VS. GREEDO
TIM Picks: Qui-Gon & Jango Fett
So obviously I’m a terrible human being because every year without fail I keep voting against Yoda on the first round. It’s not that I don’t love Yoda, guys, it’s just they keep pitting him against Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan and I can’t vote against them somehow! It’s useless to resist! But hey, let’s give Qui-Gon some credit here, I mean, he did totally uncover the Force-spirit stuff before Yoda did! So if Yoda shows up in the Sequel Trilogy (and the fact he already did show up in Episode VI), he’s got no one to thank but Master Jinn, the rebel Jedi πŸ™‚ If more people used my methods to vote he might win one of these, but ah well. Maybe next year?
For Bounty Hunters… it’s almost unfair to pit Greedo against a Mando! Even if that Mando doesn’t do too well ultimately! But yeah, even knowing some of Greedo’s adventures prior to Episode IV in The Clone Wars, this guy still doesn’t really hold a candle to Jango in terms of badness, and in some ways coolness (ahh don’t hurt me Greedo fans!! *ducks under desk*). I’d really like to see some of these guys more equally matched in years to come. Perhaps Jango versus Pre Vizsla? That’d be interesting…

DAY THREE: HAN VS. LANDO/MAUL VS. PALPATINE
TIM Picks: Han & Maul
Another year, another win for Captain Solo! I keep feeling bad for Lando and thinking “maybe next year”, but it never happens! Ugh Han’s just one of those characters I can’t vote against! He’s just so amazing! He’s one of the most epic of epic heroes! Here’s a tip, Lando… if you want my vote next year, send me a puffer pig and complement my art. You’ll have it in the bag for sure then πŸ™‚
As for the Sith… yeah another vote for coolness over badness, because dude in the game of evil Darth Sidious here always wins! Even then, Maul’s still quite the terrifying, absolutely nasty guy. He started out so quietly evil and then blossomed into a revenge-seeking, robot-legged crazy man. You could almost say he’s at equals with Sidious, but well… the Emperor did completely pwn him. But not in this battle, no sir! Sorry Sidious but he’s still cooler than you πŸ˜› *Gets hit by Force lightning*

DAY FOUR: REX VS. GREGOR/HONDO VS. VIZSLA

You’re probably thinking I have something against Captain Rex since I seem to vote for every other clone over him. But look, Rex is easily everyone’s favorite clone, and I feel like these other brothas deserve some love, too. Gregor was so brave! He put aside his dead-end job on an even more so dead-end planet to save Colonel Gascon and the droids! He gave up his life to help them succeed in their mission! If that isn’t brave, I don’t know what is. C’mon won’t anyone else give him some love? Yes I know Rex is great and I’ll always love him but there’s no “I” in “The 501st”! (Unless, of course, you spell it out but not the point)
And yeah another underdog vote went to Hondo Ohnaka, and it definitely was on account of who’s the better person. Hondo’s a pretty decent fellow, despite he’s a pirate and may or may not cause you trouble depending on who’s paying him more. But darn it I love pirates! And his sense of wit! And really everything else about him! Pre Vizsla can’t help but be cool, of course, since he’s a Mando, but I’m often surprised he has as many friends as he does… ’cause he sure packs a lot of attitude! That moment in The Mandalore Plot when he throws the word “failure” at his fellow soldier and shoots him without even looking always stands out to me. He is one bad dude, for sure. So bad that I really couldn’t not give it to Hondo. And may I also mention that Hondo took on Darth Maul and lived? Can’t really say that for Pre, now can we?

DAY FIVE: R2-D2 VS. SABINE/TARKIN VS. PIETT
TIM Picks: R2-D2 & Tarkin
This was one of the hardest votes for me. Not the Tarkin vs. Piett thing, that was way too easy, considering I have trouble remembering Piett’s name half the time and how terrifying Tarkin truly is. But man… choosing between Artoo and Sabine was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Because Sabine is just so awesome, and you know how I’ve used the excuse to vote for Qui-Gon because he’s my SW Myers-Briggs twin? Sabine is technically now my Rebels twin! So a part of me still wonders if I should’ve given her the vote. But that little droid’s done a lot in life! He’s been around since day one and will continue even into the new trilogy! And he even played his part in Rebels, giving Sabine the suggestion to overload those blasters as a weapon! It was mostly that last bit that got me to vote for Artoo. That, and he’s just so stinkin’ adorable! Ladies and gentlemen, another character I can’t vote against, R2-D2!

DAY SIX: AHSOKA VS. OBI-WAN/BOBA VS. VENTRESS
TIM Picks: Obi-Wan & Ventress
Boy this was a hard one on both sides. I mean, obviously I knew from the get-go I’d probably end up giving Master Kenobi the vote, since I can’t humanly vote against him. But it hasn’t been long since Ahsoka waltzed back into the SW Universe and made me love her even more! So I had to rationalize it on the account that Obi-Wan trained Anakin who trained Ahsoka. It’s not so much on a level of who made the greater impact, because Ahsoka heading up the Rebel Alliance and Obi-Wan getting Luke involved with the Rebels to start with are both extremely important. But eh that’s how it goes in the TIM tournament! Next year will be your year, Ahsoka… next year!
Now as for the bounty hunters out here… this one was incredibly hard. Because Boba’s a shoo-in, right? He’s everyone’s favorite bounty hunter! (Except for the Dengar minority) And every year I’ve voted for him, because of course he’s just that cool and just that awesome. But Ventress… ugh she’s really really grown on me these past few years. She was already a super-cool Sith-y sort, but then she went and became a bounty hunter and has proved to actually have a heart. And darn it if there’s one thing I can’t vote against, it’s a scoundrel who’s not so scoundrel-y after all! And my inability to vote against her will increase once I read Dark Disciple. So yeah I am sorry, fellow Fett fans, I have let you down. But at least he won the vote and will likely get my vote in the next round!

DAY SEVEN: CHEWBACCA VS. ZEB/VADER VS. DOOKU
TIM Picks: Chewbacca & Darth Vader
OK you know what’s just as hard as choosing between Sabine and Artoo? It’s choosing between Zeb and Chewie. I never would’ve expected it’d be this hard to pick between movie characters and Rebels characters! I mean, they’re both epic and all kinds of awesome and know how to handle bucketheads, but how do you choose between them?? HOW I SAY?! Well, if they could’ve arm-wrestled it might’ve helped me pick, but honestly I have no clue how that’d go down. If perhaps Chewbacca had been among the Wookiees Zeb helped rescue I might’ve given it to our favorite Honor Guard. But then it occurred to me that Chewie helped save Ahsoka, who in turn grew up and played a major part in the Rebellion that Zeb is currently a big part of himself. So there Chewbacca wins! Zeb wasn’t too happy about that, but he went and thrashed a few ‘troopers and he feels better now.
As for the Sith… um… yeah, Darth Vader couldn’t not win. Dooku’s pretty nasty himself but seriously… against Vader? No contest. We’ve all seen Episode III, it doesn’t end well for the Count. And plus, Vader’s just awesome period.

DAY EIGHT: PADME VS. JAR JAR/JABBA VS. FORTUNA
TIM Picks: Padme & Jabba
Honestly, at first, I couldn’t believe they would actually put Jar Jar into the tournament. I mean, I love him, but I’m not sure I can say the same for the majority. And really, I wanted to vote for Padme, because she’s strong, clever, smart, and fabulous, and because of the kinda big deal role she plays in the SW Galaxy as Luke and Leia’s mom. I wasn’t going to vote for Jar Jar just because I wasn’t sure anyone else would, that wouldn’t be fair. I have reasons when I vote for underdogs! But then… well, the sound you heard was the sound of all those who filled out brackets ahead of time crying. Jar Jar’s actually got the majority of the vote! Talk about an upset! So either he has a larger fanbase and less people hating on him now or else a bunch of people just wanted to throw off what everyone expected. But hey, I’m happy for ya Representative Binks! You go win this thang!! And again, in the battle of the baddies, Jabba always wins as versus his lackeys. Though it was nice to see Bib’s face in the ring this time around instead of Salacious Crumb πŸ™‚

So there you have it guys, it’s been some awesome first round of This Is Madness, hasn’t it? I’ll keep you updated as each round continues!

Uncovering The Lost Missions: The Disappeared Part 1

Can I just say how sorry I am that it’s taken me this long to getting around to blogging? It just took me sooooo long to do that Summer Reads one that it made me not look forward to doing another blog, even though I knew that the post on this TCW episode one would come easily. And on top of that, a glitch in the site literally made half of the blog disappear! (Ironic no?) So anyway, after being caught up in all the drama of SW-ian war and politics, It was great to step into a lighter, truly unique storyline with an unlikely duo at the helm — Mace Windu and Jar Jar Binks! So let’s get it started as we look deeper into The Disappeared Part 1!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode I, Episode II, The Clone Wars Microseries, TCW Episodes The Mandalore Plot, Heroes On Both Sides, and The Disappeared Part 1

Lost Missions cover title for The Disappearing P1
(Original screencap credit: Netflix)

So once again, it seems that peaceful planets have trouble staying that way during the war, but it’s not the all-too common Separatist invasion problem this time… some of Bardotta’s Force-sensitive-but-not-Jedi leaders have vanished and Queen Julia knows who she’s gonna call for help… and who that is kinda leaves us all going “WHUT?“. Not Padme, not Bail… but well, Jar Jar. First of all, let me clarify if you don’t already know that I actually do like Jar Jar and don’t have an inch of disdain for him, so if you are like me in that way, you’re safe here πŸ™‚ Moving back to the story. I love Obi-Wan’s response: “WHY WOULD ANYONE REQUEST THE PRESENCE OF JAR JAR BINKS?!”. I don’t think the guy ever managed to warm up to the Naboo “local”, but even so I love his subtlely disdainful comments that he’s so good at making. While no one gets why in “why Jar Jar?”, but they do know the why in the “why not a Jedi”. Evidently the Bardottans weren’t cool with the Jedi taking in their Force-sensitive kids a while back and thus, yeah, they aren’t on speaking terms (why is it all these neutral planets are uncool with the Jedi half the time??). So knowing Representative Binks might be in over his head if something goes really wrong, Mace Windu decides to join the party, even though the Queen wasn’t cool with anyone else coming along. Ah yes, though! The awesomeness it is having Jar Jar and Mace working together! I mean, it’s a perfect concept, really; you have Mace Windu, possibly the most serious Jedi ever, the guy who can tear apart super battle droids with his bare hands and keep a straight face the whole time, the guy who rarely even allows anything more than a smirk to cross his face (and those are, like say, crazy rare to even happen), the guy who generally has everything under control even when he doesn’t. And then you have Jar Jar, innocent, clumsy, but always willing to help, who on the flip side is actually rather wise, just, and sarcastic when he wants to be. And now these two complete opposites are working together! Ah yes, so much funnnn πŸ™‚ Right from the get-go Mace is trying to keep Jar Jar’s webby fingers off the ship controls XD And can I just mention how amazing the character animation is in this episode?? I know it’s always amazing, but something just struck me about the way Mace emotes, and the way Yoda talks, and the way Jar Jar gestures. I mean, wow. Sorry but I have to gush a little per blog, and trust me this is not the last time I’ll be doing that this post. So by the time they got to Bardotta, everyone’s like “heyyyy we didn’t invite the Jedi…”, but Jar Jar lets them know he’s cool with him, and thus Master Windu gets dubbed “servant” for the remainder of the trip πŸ˜† Hahaha oh my… poor Mace! Second to Jar Jar! He’s probably thinking “What weird planet did I just land on?!” but he only subtlely lets in on that in his expressions, and I do mean subtlely. You think someone would’ve caught on that that wasn’t quite the case considering Jar Jar referred to him as “Master Mace is meesa humble servant”… that kinda is an oxymoron isn’t it? IDK anyway, I do want to say that Queen Julia is majorly cool. Her species is really awesome and she has a fabulous sense of style, and her personality is legit! Although the one thing that I can’t figure is how on earth (figuratively speaking) she got a normalish Earth name like “Julia”! Not that it’s a bad name, but beyond names like “Luke” and “Ben” and sorta “Han” it’s not a common sight in the SW galaxy. But I digress, so Jar Jar was able to convince her that Mace is a buddy here to help him and she’s all ” if you’re a friend of Jar Jar’s you’re a friend of me… well, kinda, don’t look too deeply into that. We’re not like, making friendship bracelets or anything”. And with all that said and done, the Queen gets everyone else out of the room so she and Jar Jar can talk. And ohhhhhhhhh myyyyyy goodnesssssss what happened next… she starts off the conversation with “It’s been a long time, my love…” and I’m all O.O and then they don’t really talk much after that ’cause they well, had a moment. So yes I must take a paragraph or two to discuss… “Jarlia” ❀ When Jar Jar was telling Mace how he and the Queen go way back I thought I was reading too deeply into what looked to be a lovey-dovey smile on his face. Turns out I was right on the money. No wonder he got all dressed up today! The great thing about them is that they just love each other plain and simple. So while Anakin and Padme kept their thing under wraps, Obi-Wan and Satine switched between awkwardness and arguing, and Ahsoka and Lux were just having a lot of teen-crush-awkwardness in general, Jar Jar and Julia had nothing holding them back. No rules, no war, no differing viewpoints… LUCKY. So I know we're all wondering how much actual meditating they were doing during that time… Mace's visible eyeroll indicates it probably wasn't enough by his standards. Plus, he's been in the dark about everything they've been discussing! Ugh playing second banana to a Gungan already can't be fun, but being a third wheel to a Gungan/Bardottan couple must be even worse. So that's about when Mace decides to make his own way in to get some word from Jar Jar. Behind the closed door Julia was about to start explaining what she knows about the disappearances when Mace walks in and the Queen will not have it. So now Jar Jar’s in the most awkward position ever and tells her he’ll be having a word with his “servant”. Only as soon as they’re out of sight Master Windu decides to have a word of his own with the Representative. Mace is all “Dude seriously what have you been doing? We’re kind of her on important business, if you haven’t forgotten!” and Jar Jar’s like “WELL I WAS ABOUT TO FIND OUT SOMETHING IMPORTANT BEFORE YOU BARGED IN! For the record, our thing is part of the reason she trusts me with this stuff!”. Mace’s expression makes it clear he’s not buying this much. But by the time Jar Jar heads back to the Queen, she might’ve disappeared. Like, literally, disappeared. And Jar Jar starts freaking out the way only he can. According to some prophecy of the Bardottans they have three days to save the Queen or else an era of darkness will fall across the galaxy (um I guess it’s best we don’t bring up the fact that the Galactic Empire will happen and darkness will fall one way or the other…). But amidst the panic, Jar Jar does his awesome representin’ thing and with a little help from Master Windu on what questions to ask, he’s able to chill out the council. Evidently the prophecy’s origins will take the duo to an ancient cursed temple. For all the confidence Jar Jar had in his speech, he just knows that this isn’t likely going to end well (I mean we are talking about an ancient cursed temple here. Wheeeeeee…) And yeah as soon as he finds a possible clue in the dark shadowy halls of the temple some crazy masked warrior guy turns the gungan invisible. Mace isn’t able to get to him in time, but there’s no ancient stone door that this awesome Jedi can’t open, and off he goes to save his comrade.
So by the time we see Jar Jar again, it’s not long before we can actually see him again, of course he’s in a cage in this dark creepy raging-fire-pit-for-whatever-reason cavern. And as he finds out from one of the captured Force-sensitive Bardottans (who also has an Earth-ish name, Joseph), these cult crazies are actually sucking the Force out of them one by one as a sacrifice. Um, RUDE. So it’s safe to say they’re all in trouble. Thankfully, Jar Jar has his comlink on hand and Mace is on his way… but WILL HE MAKE IT IN TIME?? Wait why’d I just do that this isn’t where the episode ends… forget I said that. Though yeah Jar Jar might be next in the Force-removal line, even with him not being the most Force-sensitive guy in the room. But to answer the last question yes Mace makes it in time, just at the last second. And before he knows it he’s trying to keep Jar Jar alive and fight the cult dudes at the same time. NBD for Master Windu. Even Jar Jar gets in on the fight, K.O’ing the bad guys in his own klutzy/accidentally heroic manner. And all the while they’re doing this on stone paths right over boiling hot lava, so yeah just another day in the life, right? So Mace was doing his awesomely epic fighting and beating the stew out of the cultists until the last one turned tail and ran away from him. Jar Jar had finally gotten on his feet to try and save the Queen (who is thankfully still alive for the moment), but the baddies managed to grab her and get her aboard their ship before Representative Binks could do anything. Oh noes.
Returning to the council, Jar Jar reassures them that, along with his Jedi friend, they will succeed in his mission and save the Queen and defeat the evil cult and in turn save the entire galaxy! A tall order, but not entirely impossible for this crazy awesome duo. As the two exchange a smile/smirk (you know who did what, most likely), we can only hope for what will happen next and for our heroes to come out of this one unscathed…
And thus ends another awesome Uncovering blog! *Faints, with head slamming onto the keyboard* And hopefully, this will be the end of late-arriving, procrastinated blog posts for a good long ol’ time πŸ™‚ Until next time around…

My Star Wars Twin? Looking @ The Myers Briggs Test

So last week I was listening to one of my fave radio shows and they had found something that I could not wait to blog on: a Star Wars version of the Myers Briggs Test! After laughing at the show’s (guy) host being most like Leia, I looked at the chart for myself and thought “who here is my Star Wars twin?”
OK, so I’ll be honest, I really don’t entirely understand how this test works. But just reading the descriptions of each character told me that well… forget a SW twin, I have SW octuplets! I somehow ended up being the entire two middle rows. I do have a bit of a diverse personality. So I thought it would be interesting to dig into each character I felt was a bit like me and how I relate to them.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode I, Episode II, Episode III, Episode IV, Episode VI, the Clone Wars Miniseries, and TCW episodes Blue Shadow Virus and The Gungan General.

So when I was reading through the descriptions for each character, I may have cringed a little bit when I read Threepio’s bio. Mostly because I was thinking “WAIT. I’M MOST LIKE THREEPIO?!” And nothing against the golden droid, but he’s not known for being the most fun guy in the room or anything. But yet, I still see that Threepio and I have more in common than I would’ve thought.
First of all, I can be terrified by new and seemingly-dangerous experiences. Remember in Episode I where he was all “Well, I can promise you that they’ll never get me on one of those starships!”? And remember how we all chuckle at that line because of how ironic it is? Like Threepio, I prefer the comforts of the familiar most of the time. I admit that I’m not the most adventurous person on the planet. I can’t even begin to imagine being in the shoes of any of theΒ SW characters!
As it mentions in his description, I do keep track of what’s important to the awesome family and friends in my life. I’ve never thought of Threepio as a thoughtful sort, but then again… remember that part in the Clone Wars miniseries when he had no problem fetching Padme’s shawl, even though it turned out to be Padme’s own clever way of revealing the camoflauged droideka-things? Threepio was all “I MUST BE OUT OF MY CIRCUITS.” and he nearly got blasted to bits just being helpful to his friend. I guess he does have a bit of a soft side after all πŸ™‚
Now, sometimes when I’m with friends, I’m even less adventurous. My friends all eat out of the same bowl of frozen yogurt for a crazy scavenger hunt and I opt out of joining them due to my germophobia. I sometimes feel like a Threepio surrounded by Artoos, shall we say. I just don’t want to invite trouble in, and sometimes, like Threepio, I get my own set of trouble anyway. Not that this is the case most of the time, but I’ll watch Threepio in his many, many misadventures and I’ll nod my head and say “bro, I feel your pain”.
But all the same, Threepio really is just trying to do his best and help people, like he was programmed for. I’m a bit more crazy and carefree than Threepio, but when it comes down to our comrades, we just want to be there for them and be a friend — even when our friends are more adventurous than we are.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: The Counselor
SW_MTB1_ObiWan
As a huge Obi-Wan fan (as you all know by now), I was really hoping that he’d be my SW twin. Interestingly though, according to this, we’re not as alike as I had thought.
I do find myself curious about what makes people tick. I mean, I love to create characters and tell stories as well as observe my favorite movies, shows, and books, in both ways thinking about what motivated so-and-so to do this, or why they reacted like this, or what did they really mean when they said that, etc. I consider myself pretty insightful, but I’m not sure that I match this description to an insane level or anything. But they seem to be more talking about the Obi-Wan of the Original Trilogy; I think that if we look at the Obi-Wan of the Prequels, we have more in common than just our interest in human thought.
I like to joke around that I could be Obi-Wan’s twin sister. We both have nearly the same color hair and eyes, weirdly enough. Obi-Wan is considered to be a master of wit and wisdom. I don’t know if I’m the wisest, but I love coming up with clever one-liners and sarcastic quips. I remember a year ago watching the TCW episode Blue Shadow Virus for the first time in a while. And Obi-Wan and the clones are standing in that room chock-full of life-destroying bombs and Obi-Wan’s like “Good thing these things aren’t armed!” Cue two seconds later when that dastardly doctor starts up the countdown. I chuckled to myself and remarked “Spoke too soon” just as Obi-Wan said “I spoke too soon”! And I had totally forgotten that line was in there! I think we have a strangely similar thought process. Aside from that time, I’ve sat and watched Obi-Wan a number of times and thought “I would totally have reacted like that!”
Another thing you don’t realize quiteΒ as much in the Originals is that Obi-Wan is super amiable and friendly. I definitely can be like that, especially with close friends. He has acquaintances and chums in bounty hunters, diner cooks, important politcians, fellow Jedi, and everyone in between. Being as I’ve never traveled the galaxy with Qui-Gon, I don’t have any friends in those categories, but all the same, I enjoy talking and hanging out with people.
So while I may not exactly be Obi-Wan’s doppleganger, I’m glad I have a few somethings in common with this incredibly awesome Jedi.

Bail Organa: The Artist
SW_MTB1_BailOrgana

As soon as I saw they classified him as “The Artist”, I realized I might’ve found my SW twin. I love drawing and writing and consider myself to be an artsy sort, though I’d never thought of Bail as “artsy” (though perhaps he secretly sketches landscapes in his spare time…). But it goes deeper than that.
As the description states, while I love being around friends, I really enjoy having some space to just be me (especially when I’m writing or drawing or blogging, like I am now). I’m all about not rushing art; I’d rather take a week on a great drawing than do ten bad drawings in one week. And I really am not a fan of getting into disagreements with people (which is clearly why I don’t allow comments on this blog). But yet I have a strong sense of justice, and I will speak up about it.
Also, Senator Organa and I have the closest fashion sense πŸ™‚ Blues, grays, blacks, turtlenecks, boots… dude, I must own tons of those colors and articles! What can I say? Bail and I got SWAG! XD
In all seriousness, I am proud to be very much alike Leia’s “other” daddy. He may not be the first person who comes to mind when you think about Star Wars, but he is truly one of my fave Prequel characters and a truly great character.

Luke Skywalker: The Idealist
SW_MTB1_LukeSkywalker
(Original screencap credit: StarWars.com)
I was quite surprised to find that I had stuff in common with one of the most notable heroes in the SW Galaxy! But the description does sound a bit like me, even if I’ve never watched a double sunset, looking intense with John Williams in the background πŸ™‚
I probably am a bit idealistic, and I would definitely say I’m a loyal sort. And I definitely don’t sit around and let people trash what I know is right. And I do want to see people meet their full potential.
I think that I’m pretty adapatable and flexible. For the most part, I’m just cool with whatever happens. Sometimes I get bummed out, but hey, I’m not sure that Luke was exactly feeling “flexible” when he found out his farmwork would prolong his dream of being part of the Rebel Alliance.
Besides all of that, Luke and I both have twin siblings. So, cool πŸ˜€
Overall, I’m quite pleased to be so similar to Luke Skywalker. He’s messed up and he’s been knocked down a few times, but all the same he’s still full of spirit and strength. I hope to match that description in my everyday life.

Wicket W. Warrick: The Performer
SW_MBT1_WicketWarrick
(Original screencap credit: StarWars.com)
Some people might not be thrilled with coming out an ewok. I am not some people. I kinda figured I’d share a lot in common with this furry warrior, and I’m quite happy about it.
Outgoing? Check. Friendly? Check. Exhuberant lover of life? Check. And I do love my friends and family and my stuff, too.
And like the description states, I do like working with people on stuff. Sometimes I prefer to go it solo, but as someone who always stays for the end credits on every movie, I highly admire team efforts and enjoy being a part of a group.
I’m not sure I’m easily adaptive sometimes, as I mentioned earlier with Threepio, but it depends on the situation. Sometimes I’ll jump into it, and sometimes I’ll tiptoe into it, but I do want to do my best no matter what.
It’s also kinda fun to say that I’m about the height of an ewok… I’m not very tall… OK OK maybe I’m not literally three-foot-nothing or whatever, but sometimes I feel about that tall. But Wicket’s great because he is that tall and he still is an Empire-whupping hero πŸ™‚ Also, he was my birthday cake this year, so that says something about me, I guess…

Qui-Gon Jinn: The Champion
SW_MBT1_QuiGonJinn
(Original screencap credit: StarWars.com)
So, assuming I got the actual method right, Qui-Gon is my actual SW twin. How cool is it to say that I’m Qui-Gon?! He’s another one of my fave SW characters ever!! I can never see the name Liam Neeson without thinking of Master Jinn, and I mean that as a compliment! (Well, the first role I saw him in was as Aslan in the Narnia films, but Qui-Gon comes to mind more often) So yeah I geeked out when I found this out.
Also, being known as The Champion is awesome …YOU’RE GONNA HEAR ME ROAR/LOUDER, LOUDER THAN A LION/’CAUSE I AM A CHAMPION/YOU’RE GONNA HEAR ME ROOOOOOAAAARRRR!! *Ahem* Sorry (Hehehe I realized that Mr. Neeson played Aslan who is a lion and Qui-Gon, who is “The Champion”…)
But anyway, everything it says in the description fits me like a glove. Warmly enthusiastic, imaginative, sees life as full of possibilities. Definitely me.
It also mentions wanting affirmation from others. Also true; I admit I’m more partial to compliments than I am criticism. Never pegged Qui-Gon in that area, but who knows? He did kinda have to deal with the Council’s lack of enthusiasm when he wanted to train Anakin. And they say Qui-Gon’s a bit of a rebel among Jedi; I’m not saying I’m a rebellious sort, but I do get being a bit different from the average sort in my crowd.
But then it mentions readily giving appreciation and support. This is also right on the Republic credits. I love uplifiting others in their craft and cheering them on. Especially when it comes to fellow artists and writers.
Really, everything here is true. Right down to my verbal fluency (I am writing a blog here, aren’t I?) Again, it’s insanely cool to be akin with the amazing Master Jinn. I would very much like to grab a cup of joe with him in the Force Spirit Realm sometime πŸ˜€

Jar Jar Binks: The Provider
SW_MBT1_JarJarBinks
(Original screencap credit: StarWars.com)
For some reason, I figured I’d be even more like Jar Jar than the description says. And unlike some fans, I have no problem with being like Representative Binks.
Whoops… there went all my viewers. JUST HERE ME OUT, PLEASE.
Well, besides the fact that I can be rather klutzy (though not to a have-to-be-banished-from-my-hometown level), I think “warmhearted, concientious, and cooperative” suit me.
I definitely prefer harmony in my surroundings, and as I mentioned with Wicket, I like working with other people.
Interesting thought here: Jar Jar may seem like a nice guy 99% of the time, but he can be very good at sarcasm. I mean, that line in Episode I where he’s all “Ha… yeah… no. I’d be better off dead here than dead at the planet core.” or “The Force. Yeah, sure. That’s a huge deal…” I’m not saying I would’ve reacted exactly like him in those situations, but while I try to be nice most of the time, I can be… well, a pureveyor of the fine art of sarcasm.
And then the last thing about wanting to be appreciated? That’s very true of me. I want to leave a legacy, shall we say. I want to be remembered well for who I am and what I’ve done. I may not be a twice-time General or a peace-seeking politician, but Jar Jar and I both want to be loyal friends, help people, and make a difference. And like this guy or not, Jar Jar has definitely made a difference in the SW Galaxy.

Padme Amidala: The Giver
SW_MBT1_PadmeAmidala
(Original screencap credit: StarWars.com)
Honestly, I thought Padme and I would have the least in common. I mean, standing up to monsters and other bad guys? Standing up to a crowd with a potentially planetshaking proposition? Wearing that much makeup? I could never be like Padme in those areas, I don’t think. She’s an extremely admirable character, and I couldn’t imagine what we really had in common. But look again… most of the description is pretty on the nose! Warm, empathetic, finds potential in everyone, etc. I’m not sure I’m leader material, as this suggests. But I think it’s pretty cool that we’re not too far apart.
I also think about how Padme is very outspoken with her beliefs and her drive for peace… she wants the war to end, but she’s willing to fight for it all the same. Even if it requires what we would call “aggressive negotiations”. I think that I share that, in a way. I mentioned earlier that I’d rathered not get into disagreements if I can help it, but all the same, if I feel the need to, I will argue a point down to the bone. I sometimes wish I wasn’t like this because I don’t want to sound like a jerk or lose any friends, but I suppose it’s good that I’m willing to hold on tightly to what I believe is true. And that’s why I’m glad I have a bit of Senator Amidala in me.

So I hopefully have given you a chance to look at these characters differently and maybe learn a bit more about me. But enough about me! Who’s your SW twin? πŸ™‚

BLOGGER’S NOTE 2/6/16: I finally found the chart again after the link having been broken for so long. I will note that the descriptions are different than what I originally used on this post, but the concepts are still the same. Sorry for any confusion this may cause. Thanks for reading.
