A Totally Fangirly Analysis Of The Solo Trailer!

Oh wow where do I even begin with this? I’ve been excited about Solo from day one, and I’m frankly mad it took me this long to say anything on the main blog about it! One of my favoritest of favorite characters is getting his own Anthology film!! That’s kinda a HUGE deal! So let’s rewatch this awesome trailer and then I’ll give you my near-second-by-second breakdown on what’s got me fangirlin’! 😀

Contains spoilers from the trailer (of course) and some of the films before it.

0:00 – First thought: wow is that a guitar? LOVE.
0:03 – Ooh cute critter there! I wonder if it’s a puppet or digital or a real animal? (As you can tell, I really love rodents)
0:06 – Man this is a sad-looking side of town…
0:08 – OHHH I RECOGNIZE THAT SILHOUETTE!
0:10 – AND I KNOW THAT FACE! Oh right I should be paying attention the narration. I’m really bad at that sometimes. What happened to you, boy…?
0:11 – Then we go from the shadows to a stark white, bright world that has very much captured my attention.
0:13 – OOH buddy this gon’ be fun. Probably dangerous, but fun.
0:14 – I’m all about these costume designs, guys. So cool!
0:18 – There’s something about a shady, dark room full of new crazy cool aliens that brings out my geekiness something fierce. You guys get it, right?
0:19 – LOOK AT THAT CONFIDENCE. THERE IS SO MUCH CONFIDENCE THERE.
0:22 – I still remember the first time I saw Alden Ehrenreich and how I was absolutely stunned by how much he looked like a young Han. I knew there was no way they wouldn’t cast the right guy for the role, but… I didn’t know there was any actor this perfect out there. In this shot alone, you can see so much of his familiar swagger, but at the same time, a youthful curiosity that presents a new angle on a guy we typically think of as jaded.
0:23 – AHH CHEWIE!! Oh it’s going to be a wonderfully epic getting to see this iconic friendship come to be! I’m already gettin’ the feels just thinking about it!
0:25 – AND AHH THE FALCON! How’d I miss that a sec ago?
0:30 – I’m looking forward to learning more about Qi’ra for sure. Not just because clearly there will be some delightful bantering between her and Han, but she also seems to be a very observant, insightful character, if the narration the last couple trailers can be believed.
0:33 – Also can’t wait to meet Tobias Beckett. We haven’t learned much about him yet and I’m intrigued. Also hey this is the first time in a while I’ve seen an actor I already knew in a Star Wars film (aside from voice acting and mocap work, anyway). Go Woody Harrelson!
0:35 – Some more epic-looking characters that just drip with iconicness!
0:36 – Ooh what’s Han driving here?
0:37 – One fast (but adorably rusty) landspeeder that’s what!
0:39 – It’s good to know the term “driving” actually exists in the SW galaxy. Sometimes I get confused over whether it counts as “flying” something if the vehicle hovers.
0:40 – YES! You know I love chase scenes!
0:41 – Those ships! That scenery! I’m in awe!
0:42 – Intense Solo is intense.
0:43 – Whoa dang what’s even going on here???
0:45 – Yet another character we don’t know much about but who looks totally awesome. But I actually appreciate they’re keeping so much under wraps. Gives us a ton of exciting new stuff to discover later!
0:47 – Han, meet blaster. Blaster, meet Han.
0:48 – What do I think? I think that I’m gonna have serious trouble waiting until May 25th!
0:49 – Actually, I think that’s Shryiiwook (pardon my spelling) for “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” XP
0:51 – Oh wow I just realized that this looks a little like a snowy Kashyyyk! Like one of its poles, maybe!
0:53 – Really into all this dramatic lighting right now.
0:56 – LANDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
1:02 – SO. PERFECT. SO. LANDO. I can’t tell you how much I love Donald Glover’s performance. Ever since that first grin in that first teaser, I knew he truly was perfect for the role!
1:03 – Chewie sounds like he finds this genuinely funny. But on his face, I feel I’m reading more of a sarcastic chuckle… which would make sense if Lando was involved.
1:05 – Finally getting to meet L3-37!
1:07 – And she’s already made the list of fave droids.
1:08 – *Quietly thinks that L3 and K-2SO would’ve made a good couple had their paths ever crossed*
1:09 – The image of Han touching the Falcon for (presumably) the first time gives me some chills.
1:10 – What an absolute beaut’! I’m still not over how good the ship looked in her glory days!
1:11 – I mean, wow, it’s so white.
1:14 – And yet… Han was meant for so much more than just “this life”… 🙂
1:18 – If that new live-action series solely centered around Lando and L3’s misadventures, I would not complain. ‘Cause they’ve clearly had a lot of them.
1:20 – As of today, only a month and nine days away. Still feels much too long.
1:21 – I cannot wait to see what a train heist in Star Wars looks like. Well, right… technically we’ve seen one in The Clone Wars, but still! Every second is thrilling!
1:23 – Here come the range troopers! Oh they look so powerful and so epic! Also just glad to see some bucketheads around, ’cause I’d miss them if they weren’t, honestly.
1:24 – Of course, I’m sure Han would rather they not be here on the train right at this moment. Can’t a man pull off a heist in peace anymore?? 😛
1:28 – *Continues to be dazzled by the visuals to the point she forgets to say anything useful*
1:29 – Another mystery character, but that’s a really nice cape. Who wants to bet Lando steals his first one from her? XD
1:30 – Wow is it just me, or does that walker look seriously tougher than the garden variety brand of walkers?
1:33 – Awww wookiee hugs! But with who…? *Crosses fingers hoping it’ll be the first canon female wookiee we get to see*
1:35 – You gotta love this slightly-more-enthusiastic side Han once had! I’ve got a great feeling about this!
1:37 – These space battles OMG!
1:45 – *Dies laughing for the next couple minutes*
1:46 – THESE VFX ARE GLORIOUS.
1:49 – I’M SO HYPED.
1:50 – I’M SORRY THIS ISN’T MY MOST INTELLECTUAL POST, AND THAT I CAN’T STOP WRITING IN ALL-CAPS, BUT OH SO WOW!!!
1:52 – Ooh this looks cool. And a bit frightening.
1:55 – I love when Chewie just throws people like that. Such a boss!
1:56 – I really want a replica of Qi’ra’s jacket. Her Universe, take note.
1:59 – I agree, L3– OH NOOOO CHEWIEEEEE!!! :O
2:03 – Considering I just watched him in Force Awakens the other day I guess he made it, but… still! So tense!
2:06 – But the reigning emotion right now can be summed up in four words: this. looks. so. FUN!!

It might not sound like much to say “it’s so fun”, considering all the films have fun moments. But I would say this is the most upbeat and thrilling trailer we’ve seen in a while, and it just makes me ridiculously happy to watch. I’m so ready for Solo.

Anyway, we’ll certainly talk more ’bout my bro Han at a later date. Thanks for reading this and joining in on my excitement!

Rebel Transmissions: A Fool’s Hope

Oh my word, am I seriously on my second-to-last Rebel Transmission?? The time flies so! Let’s see if I can make this post count and give you some unique fangirly perspective on the second-to-last chapter in this glorious series, A Fool’s Hope. Read on.

Contains spoilers from much of Star Wars Rebels, including A Fool’s Hope. At this point I hope you know by now you should be caught up.

First of all, funny note: I first mistook the AT-AT landing pad for a tennis court. Considering Rex and his bros had turned that AT-TE into a fishing boat/retirement home, I wouldn’t have been surprised! Haha I’m so weird.

It felt awesome seeing the home-sweet-home Ghost again, but it was merely the beginning of a marvelous family reunion! I knew from Celebration that we were going to see Gregor and Wolffe at some point, but going into these last episodes, I figured they’d keep the very personal, very intimate feel we’ve had for much of the season with most focus on the main crew. I was, admittedly, a little blue thinking I wasn’t going to see certain characters again inside of SWR, like Hondo Ohnaka. But then guess what they gave me? HONDO. And KETSU. And Melch as a bonus! All of the Ghost fam’s uncles, great-uncles, and cousins in one room! And all here for Ezra and the world he calls home. I was just overwhelmed with warm fuzzies seeing all these amazing characters working together towards a common goal! Not many series could successfully pull together such an unexpected unlikely squad and make it work for the story at hand, but Rebels most definitely did 😀

So who else thought Ryder did an epic job at keeping us guessing? My immediate reaction was that he was leading Pryce on the whole time, but knowing how Star Wars tends to flip the script, I allowed for a little doubt there. After all, there was a time he wasn’t so keen on rebelling. I’d forgotten that a little until I watched this one. But at the same time, even with his occasional disagreements and uncertainties, Ryder has been nothing but dedicated to this Alliance these past couple seasons-and-a-half. So what would he gain with betraying them now? I wanted to stick to my guns that this was part of a greater plan, but with that guilty look on Ryder’s face and Ezra and Sabine’s accusations, I had to admit I was never totally sure. And so, this year’s Oscars go to Ryder Azadi for best actor, and Ezra Bridger for best supporting actor! Give ’em a hand, everybody! Because wow, I did not have a clue what to believe, and that’s for sure a mark of superb storytelling.

The battle scenes in this one were thrilling. I know that’s not news to you, most likely, but I felt I needed to say it ’cause I honestly don’t talk about fight scenes and battles enough. It’s not because they’re not always awesome, but I feel sometimes like it’s somewhat out of my realm of understanding. The Force? SW Politics? Character development? I can talk all day on those things. But… a military analyst, I am not. I’m gonna at least try and throw in a few highlights. Like Chopper faking out that one ‘trooper, Sabine firing in flight, the epic choreography of Ezra and Ruhk’s duel, Zeb finding another use for a heavy blaster and looking like a sick boss the whole time, the Ghost‘s fabulous entrance, and the coolness of seeing both familiar faces and some unfamiliar faces manning the guns side-by-side. Oh, and obviously the final wolf attack. I can’t remember the last time I cheered so hard (tbh probably during another Rebels episode). Pryce was at the height of her deviousness, as cunning and nasty as she possibly ever has been at this point. But once the lothwolves join the fight, all that confidence goes right out the window, and it’s so utterly, delightfully satisfying to watch!

Andddd I guess that’s all I’ve got on this one. But it’s still such an awesome episode! And trust me, there’s going to be plenty to discuss on the final Transmission. Plentyyyyy 🙂 I shall see you in a week or two! Except for the fact I may need to do a trailer reaction for a certain Anthology film soon…

A [Fangirly] Analysis Of The New Rogue One Trailer

Last week was my birthday, and Lucasfilm gave me one of the best gifts ever — a new trailer for Rogue One. I enjoy the Olympics, but that night was all about my Star Wars! It felt like an absolutely painstaking wait, but oh my land it was worth it when it got here! Happy birthday to me! So in the tradition of trailers past, I now give you my second-by-second analysis. Or really not so much of an analysis as what I was thinking at the time. And my thoughts on this’ll be pretty fresh because I’ve only seen it once at this point. Now first, let’s watch it again.

AHHAHHAHAHAHA THAT WAS SO AWESOME. NOW LET’S GET THE SPOILERS OUT OF THE WAY AND TALK BEFORE I EXPLODE.

NOTE: Contains spoilers from the trailer you just saw (obv) as well as some light stuff from Episode IV and TCW. Honestly I’m not really sure they’re spoilers but just being careful.

0:00 – After seeing many many many commercials for Olympics sponsors, it took me a second to realize what this was.
0:02 – And then I saw the TIE fighters and was all “HOLY CRUD IT’S STAR WARS!!!!!”
0:04 – Seriously beautiful planet though. It almost looks like Coruscant…? I don’t think it is, but that would be really cool if it was.
0:06 – YAY IT’S JYNNNNNN.
0:08 – YAY IT’S SAWWWWWWW.
0:13 – Oh well that’s not good.
0:15 – Shiny logo shiny logo.
0:20 – Shackles?? What you been doin’ Jyn? By the look Cassian’s giving her it must’ve been something awful. Probably TP’d the base. *SHOT*
0:22 – Jyn ain’t gonna make it easy for anyone today. I respect that.
0:23 – OMG IT’S MON MOTHMA AGAIN AND IT STILL BLOWS MY MIND HOW PERFECT A MON MOTHMA SHE IS!
0:25 – Cassian and Jyn are all “O RLY?”
0:28 – Whoa look at the size of that Star Destroyer.
0:32 – …But that’s nothin’ compared to the battle station next to it. Holy cow.
0:39 – Jyn quietly throwing on the sass again.
0:42 – Cassian takes it all in stride. AHHHHHH I LOVE THESE TWO.
0:44 – Oh those poor pilots… also Jyn’s scarf game is on-point.
0:46 – Look at that dark stormy place wow. Wonder if it’s a whole stormy planet or just a small area on some planet…
0:48 – YESSSS SHOOT ALL THE THINGS BAZE BRO.
0:52 – AHMG THAT CANYON PLANET IS SO BEAUTIFUL.
0:56 – Chirrut don’t need your crud he’s got the Force. I’m still super fascinated by the whole not-Force-sensitive-but-believes-in-the-Force thing and I can’t wait to learn more about him.
0:58 – Bro is an absolute boss. Can I just say I love this guy? Like seriously.
1:00 – And here’s K-2SO! And he’s HUGE whoa.
1:03 – *Utterly dies laughing* Yay friendship…!
1:04 – Jyn’s “Thanks” is the perfect capper XD
1:08 – OH DANG IT’S THE DEATH STAR AGAIN AND IT IS SCARY. I FORGOT HOW SCARY IT WAS.
1:09 – More beautiful imagery seriously I can’t stop talking about it.
1:12 – Krennic’s cape game strong.
1:13 – He is amazing. And terrifying. I can tell he’ll be a perfect adversary. That gaze of his just pierces your soul.
1:15 – NUUUUU I CAHN’T WAIT ‘TIL DECEMBERRRRR.
1:18 – These camera angles, these shots… they are so real and gritty and beautiful I can’t…!
1:26 – Thank you Kaytoo for snapping me out of my awe-induced coma. At least he’s honest! XD
1:28 – I’m sure he does Cassian.
1:29 – And Saw be like O_O
1:31 – *Flails around fangirling over the beautiful imagery again and has nothing useful to say*
1:36 – Jyn’s sense of hope is contagious and gives me many feels.
1:37 – AHHHHH SAW’S LITTLE SMILE THAT WAS THE SWEETEST THINGGGG!!
1:41 – Oh, the adventure that awaits us! I can hardly stand the wait!
1:45 – JYN STARING DOWN THAT TIE. THERE ARE NO WORDS.
1:49 – THE TEAMWORKNESS AND FRIENDSHIPNESS IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
1:53 – FOURMOREMONTHSFOURMOREMONTHSFOURMOREMONTHS.
1:56 – The exact sound I made was “eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!” and then I immediately turned to my brother (who was watching it with me) and whisper-screamed “DID YOU SEE DARTH VADER?!?!?!?!?! IT’S DARTH VADER!!!!!
1:58 – And at this point I still have not recovered. Just giving me the insanely beautiful trailer would’ve been enough, but seeing the smallest glint of the Darth made it beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined for a trailer. *Keels over from all the feels*

That never fails to amaze me and make me all kinds of giddy. I’m sorry I haven’t talked about it more, but I am so so thrilled to be entering this new exciting chapter in SW history. The chapter where the Star Wars Stories begin. I can hardly wait. And that’s an understatement. I have no clue how to put my thoughts into words right now, so I’ll just leave you with four.

Vive La Star Wars.

Rogues, Rides, & Rebels

Padawanline: bringing you the newest Star Wars news… once it becomes old news XP Haha yeah it’s become a bit of a habit. But there was no way I wasn’t going to share my thoughts on the cool stuff revealed at D23 and the cool stuff to be revealed at NYCC!
NOTE: Contains no real huge spoilers. Though I would recommend you be up-to-date with all current films and shows.

So it feels best to start off with the news surrounding the movies. One of the big pieces of news was that Colin Trevorrow is directing Episode IX, which is awesome, of course. Considering how awesome Jurassic World was I have no doubt he’ll do wonderfully on the third part of the next trilogy. Gosh it still feels surreal thinking that in a few years we’ll be getting the NINTH chapter. NINTH! And I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Episode VII will be out this year, so yeah my mind can barely comprehend all the awesomeness SW is putting out right now 🙂
But perhaps the biggest reveal we got at D23 is all the new stuff going on with Rogue One! The principal photography has begun, the main cast is listed, and we only have approximately one year, 3 months, and 25 days to go! (hopefully that was approximate…) JUST LOOK AT THIS PHOTO. IT’S GLORIOUS! I love how gritty and real it looks, and still, the idea that this story leads to the events of A New Hope is amazing. Plus, you gotta love that it’s Rebel-centered! I don’t really know any of the cast, with the exception of Alan Tudyk for his fantastic voice acting, but they look like they belong in the SW galaxy fo’ sho’! And may I add Felicity Jones’ character is as stylin’ as she is epic? Sorry that’s what happens when you’re a girl as well as a cosplayer 🙂 Anyway yeah I am stoked beyond belief for Rogue One! It’s exciting to think just what it’ll be feel like and what it’ll be like in the very first of the Anthology films!

Also of great importance is the SW expansion of the Disney parks! I’ve sadly have yet to walk down Main Street U.S.A and eat a dole whip, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to experience. One of the things I love so much about the parks is the idea of walking into the worlds of some of my favorite films. A ride on Star Tours would’ve been more than enough to make my fangirly self explode with happiness, but now they’re making a whole LAND dedicated to just Star Wars!! IT IS THE GREATEST NEWS EVER I CAN’T EVEN. Two 14-acre lands on both coasts that submerge visitors into the SW galaxy… it’s more than I would’ve ever dreamed! They’ve even got a Millennium Falcon ride planned! That is officially now on my bucket list, even though going to all the Disney parks is already on there 😀 And just look at this art it’s beautiful!! Plus we’re getting stuff like Star Wars Launch Bay (any opportunity to get a photo with R2-D2 is a not-to-be-missed opportunity in my book), Hyperspace Mountain, Season Of The Force, and an updated Star Tours! Sounds like pure Disney magic at its finest! If one thing’s for certain, it’s that I will cry tears of joy when I walk into that SW land for the first time… and probably every other time afterward 🙂

And a quick bit of news that’s quite important for those of us who need Rebels like we need to breathe. There will be a special screening of two Season 2 episodes along with what sounds to be an awesome panel at New York Comic Con October 8th! Whether you’re going or not it’s good to know because it gives us a further idea of when Season 2 is going to get here. Guessing sometime in mid-October. Yeah I suppose my hope it’d get here by September was a bit of a pipe dream… but also this screencap makes me all happy inside for so so many reasons X3 And of course, I’m sure there will be some exciting developments that will come from NYCC, so even more reasons to get excited!

So there you have it! Just a few things that have me excited out of my mind! My cheeks hurt from smiling so hard 😀

The Han Movie, The App, and The Journey To The Force Awakens

So there’s been a number of exciting developments in the SW galaxy this past week that I figured I’d need to talk about. Don’t fret, a blog on Exit From Endor will come before long, just wanted to get my thoughts on these exciting pieces of news out there for your enjoyment 🙂
NOTE: This blog contains general spoilers you should already know having watched all the films and stuff. Nothing crazy, but I just wanted to let you know.

So obviously the first big thing to talk about is most definitely the news that the next Anthology film will be all about Han Solo! Unless you’ve been eaten by a giant space slug, this news is most likely already on your radar. The great Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will be directing and they’re as excited for this as we are! One of my most favorite characters is getting his own movie… it’s raining sunshine and everything is awesome!! I’ve loved the concept of the Anthology films since day one, excited to hear the stories surrounding the trilogies. It never crossed my mind, though, that they could tell more stories of the characters we already know and love, not just new characters like with Rogue One! One of the things I’m most intrigued about with this one is the idea of seeing a younger Han. At first I was like “but you can’t have Han without Harrison Ford!”, but then I remembered The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Sean Patrick Flannery did epicly at being a believable young Indy, so though most likely it won’t be him playing Captain Solo, it proves that finding a really great younger-self of Mr. Ford is possible. Plus, I mean, look at Ewan McGregor in the prequels! It continues to blow my mind as to how well he brought the “old wizard” to life thirty years before! He made me love Obi-Wan even more than I already did! (Speaking of, this really makes me want them to make an Obi-Wan-centered Anthology film like was rumored a while back. GET ON IT PEOPLE.) So I have no doubt whoever they choose to be young Han will be a fantastic choice. It’ll be so fun to see what he was up to before that fateful meeting at the Mos Eisley Cantina. Just as long as he doesn’t give Batman a ride to Naboo I think he’ll be OK XD Now… we wait until 2018… but on the bright side, we’ve got plenty of other SW movies to keep us satisfied until then. OK seriously is it not the greatest thing to know that we’ll have so many SW movies to see in the years to come?!?! 😀

And yes I definitely must briefly discuss the new Star Wars app! I find myself unfortunately without a smartphone at the moment but I will need to remedy that soon so I can get this beautiful app! Some of my favorite features? Obviously being able to take SW selfies is a big plus, the whole hologram-feel of the interface is stupid cool, the SW-themed weather forecasts are quite frankly the only way to check the weather in my opinion… the instant updates on SW news, the countdown to big events, the gif generator, the Jedi trainer… I’m pretty sure no app can out-cool this one! And just when you think it couldn’t get any better it’s free! So if you, unlike me, have a cool phone, get this thing! ‘Tis glorious! I might need to go ahead and get it on my computer just so I can have it on hand! In fact I’m doing it right now! Hehe I’m so hyped right now…

Of course one thing I really was excited to talk about is all the new books in the Journey To The Force Awakens line coming our way! Man, just the fact that we’re almost five months away from this and actually talking about the events that lead up to the film is mind-blowing. Just seeing R2-D2 and BB-8 on that Droid Factory book cover makes my head explode! To think we’re soon going to reunite with Artoo and meet this adorable BB before long… there is no better phrase to describe it than “mind-blowing”… either that or I’m in desperate need of a thesaurus right now. There’re tons of books on reference and fun stuff, but what’s really got me excited is all the stories told through the novels and comics. I like to think all my favorite SW stories are canon, long as they don’t outright negate something we know to be true, but there’s something amazing about knowing the characters we see on screen undeniably lived these stories and were shaped by these events, especially as we read stories that lead to Episode VII, like with Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath. There’ll be exciting battles (like in Aftermath), romance (as Lost Stars promises), adventure (with every single Jason Fry young readers’ tale), and all the things that we just plum love about Star Wars! A few years back I was nervous about reading all the SW novels out there because there were so many with so many different storylines that would conflict with one another, now I absolutely want to read every SW novel from here on out, because all of it is undeniably a chapter of this great big wonderful story. So yes get excited ’cause they’re on their way!

So yeah all this fantastic SW news has me feeling all the feels and so incredibly excited for the future! And who knows what else there is to discover as SDCC goes on and we get closer and closer to that wonderful day in December? Plus someone‘s got a new SW novel to read and prepare a blog on! I gotta tell ya… being a SW fan is like being on the biggest and best roller coaster and going on it over and over again! I only say that because right now I just wanna raise my hands up in the air and yell “WHEE!!” 😀
