The Celebration Orlando 2017 Post!

First of all, I apologize for not having finished my SWR season recap post this past week like I said I would. Stuff came up. But right now, the biggest, most important thing to talk about is CELEBRATION! A time of year I look forward to as much as Christmas and my own birthday! There’s so much awesome stuff to talk about, so I’ll update this with every exciting panel I see so I can share my fangirling with all of you!
NOTE: There will be spoilers depending on the panel I’m discussing.

40 YEARS OF STAR WARS
They kicked this thing off with a bang that would rival the destruction of the two Death Stars and Starkiller base combined! Every time I turned around they brought out a guest worth screaming about! To see the master himself, George Lucas, there… oh my gosh I screamed so loud. And then followed that up each time afterward. This was a hugely special panel for so many reasons. One for me was that, I honestly haven’t watched many of the bonus features (don’t always have the time sigh), and I hadn’t seen a number of the actors and filmmakers interviewed before this. It was a marvelous first time! I’m not gonna lie I cried a lot too. That opening video hit me like a boulder-dozer of feels! And oh that dedication to Carrie Fisher… and then the awe-inspiring surprise John Williams performance! Every minute was precious and stunning and wonderful I absolutely can’t! I can only imagine where Celebration goes from here!

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Ian McDiarmid always looks so young to me. He’s just amazing.
– Hayden Christiansen still is so much Anakin it’s incredible. I’ve missed seeing his face around here something awful!
– On that note, I was so glad to hear briefly from Qui-Gon and Mace! Er… Liam Neeson and Samuel L. Jackson, I mean. To know they still remember and value their time spent in the films and appreciate the fans is utterly heart-warming.
– Also, something about the image of a darksider Jar Jar Binks is actually really epic.
– Hearing the stories of how George and the original cast met was an absolute treat in every way possible.
– Mark Hamill’s original audition video is incredible. HIS ACTING, YOU GUYS. IT’S SUBLIME. EVEN WAY BACK WHEN ON AN AUDITION TAPE.
– Somehow I’d forgotten how tall Peter Mayhew was and now I doubt I’ll ever forget.
– I adore Anthony Daniels. I know that’s a no-brainer but, again, seeing these actors outside of the films and hearing them tell their stories of making them… it’s… words can barely describe.
– Also first time seeing Billy Dee Williams interviewed I think ever. He’s still the smoothest! 😀
– When the Harrison Ford showed up… I think everything in me exploded. I had no idea he’d never been to a Celebration prior, so that made it all the more special.
– His seamless Indiana Jones drop cracked me up. HE IS SUCH A DELIGHT OMG!
– Safe to say Carrie’s daughter has one of the best dresses ever. Her speech was beautiful.
– Like I said before, the dedication video was so moving and so special… when they started showing all the little girls in Leia costumes I think I really started weeping. In a good way though.
– And again, a standing ovation almost doesn’t seem good enough for John Williams. If I could fly or hover and applaud, I would. Same for the spectacular work done by the orchestra! Like wow! Made me want to go and buy all the soundtracks I haven’t yet bought right now.
– I clapped ’til my hands were numb, man. But that’s normal 🙂

SIDESTORY: FORCES OF DESTINY ANNOUNCEMENT
Just read the article on the new Forces Of Destiny microseries and product line and I’m excited. New animated shorts starring the bossladies of the Star Wars galaxy! How great is that?! I love the character designs and style, and since they’re all canon, it’s useless to resist! It’s really nice seeing them trying a line specifically aimed at girls. Star Wars has never been short on awesome female characters, and certainly never short on female fans (such as myself), and it’s not that it was a need, by any means (I’m always going to be mainly a 3.75 collector myself), but just imagine how many young girls might be further drawn into the saga on part of these new stories and merch? These princesses, Jedi, and rebels are about to draw in a whole new generation to the fangirl side of the Force, and that’s something to get excited about! 😀

DAVE FILONI: ANIMATED ORIGINS AND UNEXPECTED FATES
You know me, I could never turn down an opportunity to hang with Dave and Pablo! I absolutely loved digging into the origins of so many great characters and stories that we’ve seen told this last near-decade. I’m gonna be honest I was only able to watch this via livestream and was disgusted I couldn’t see the beautiful art and storyreel footage. But even so, it was nothing short of a fantastic panel with two of my favorite filmmakers. Bro I could listen to their stories for days. And naturally, this all got me really hyped for what we’re going to see Saturday…

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Those Clones and Rebel cosplayers that came up early on? They were astounding. The Hondo was so perfect it was like he was real. The young Rex and S3 Ezra were perfect too. Like wow man. Much applause.
– I love that Ahsoka was almost Ashla! Who’da thunk? Just a neat little connection.
– I’m ecstatic to hear Wolffe and Gregor might be back! Also the Nine Old Men thing warmed my little heart. I would’ve loved to have seen that :3
– These stories are literally so amazing. We almost had Savage and Satine in Rebels! I understand why they didn’t go that route ultimately, but wow what an image! I’ll never watch the opening of Twin Suns again without seeing that in my mind’s eye.
– I about cried at my inability to see the images everyone was fangasming over tho…
– Hehe everyone going Kanera-crazy cracked me up. But also yeah that sounds like an utterly beautiful scene. The idea Kanan, Hera, and Zeb were all processing the kids growing up and leaving home… such family feels!
– Though I couldn’t see the Bane-Boba showdown, it sounded beyond epic. Corey Burton and Daniel Logan are just incredible, and the whole prospect just made me ravenous for more on their characters’ stories.
– ALSOOO the fact that Durge almost made it into TCW is epic. I almost forgot to mention that.

IAN MCDIARMID: TALES FROM THE DARK SIDE
So Mr. McDiarmid was wonderful, that’s an understatement. Again, I haven’t seen a lot of interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff with him, so everything about this was a fantastic new experience. Definitely gained a lot lot more respect for the Senator/Chancellor/Emperor/Darth and Ian’s stellar acting skills. Watching the scene between Anakin and Palpatine at the opera (or as I nicknamed it, the fish ballet) again left me kind of breathless at the perfection of his performance (and Hayden’s too!). Also have to say I love listening to Ian not only because of the fascinating stories he was telling, but also because his voice is amazing. So smooth and so well-spoken and articulate! Which is why it was spectacular and spine-chilling to hear him do that Emperor laugh! An absolute blast of a panel all around! It’s tempting to drop everything right now and watch Episode III again, but the day’s not over…!

RAY PARK: PREPARE TO BE MAULED
Once again, Ray Park proves to be one of the greatest human beings to ever live. His stunts and sweet moves never fail to leave me in awe, and he’s every bit as much a nice guy as Maul is a bad guy 😀 He and Warwick made this panel nothing short of an absolute blast. I loved hearing his stories from working on set (and making lightsaber noises with Mr. Neeson and Mr. McGregor!), watching him performing stunts like an absolute blazing tornado of energy, teaching lightsaber techniques to the fans… oh and I smiled so hard when he mentioned he was a huge Toy Story fan! He’s seriously just so so great. After seeing him at last year’s Celebration I’ve learned his panels are ones you should never miss.

THE LAST JEDI
OMG THIS PANEL WAS EVERYTHING AND MORE. Josh Gad was a brilliant host, Rian Johnson clearly’s a brilliant director, and there’s so so much to get hyped about! And that TEASER! It left me reeling in the best way. It’s a long way to Alderaan, and by “Alderaan” I mean December, but this helped just the slightest bit with the wait 🙂 Allow me to elaborate further in my assorted fangirl musings:

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Josh Gad is just like us and I love that.
– Like say, so much love for Mr. Johnson, and Ms. Kennedy too!
– OK so y’know I didn’t get to see The Force Awakens panel two years ago, so this is some of the first BTS stuff I’ve seen with Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. And now I love them more than ever, and I didn’t think it was possible for me to love them more!
– I’m amazed Daisy could keep a straight face with Josh asking her questions like that. Nahhh Rey’s parents are probably just an average Joe and Jane, right…? XP
– John is promising more Finn and Poe adventures! Sounds good to me! *Imagines Finn and Poe in “The Boys Are Back” number in High School Musical 3* XD
– BB-8 IS HERE AND HE’S REAL! OK I already knew that they’ve got a functioning BB out there, but just seeing him here… it’s incredible. I’m amazed he was not utterly mobbed by hugging fans! I loved watching him get snippy with Josh. That was just perfect!
– Kelly Marie Tran is just a delight you guys. I absolutely can’t wait to meet Rose now!
– MARK HAMILL AGAIN! He’s still so fantastic and his stories are some of the best ever. Hearing him talk about visiting kids in hospitals and making a difference for them made me tear up.
– WOW THAT POSTER! It’s so dynamic and kind of retro and full of fantastic symbolism! I could look at it forever.
– AND THE TEASER. “Breathe… just breathe” NO I CAN’T BREATHE, LUKE!! THIS IS TOO AMAZING!!
– I won’t elaborate on it too long (I’ll save that analyzing for the next trailer), but a few pressing things on my mind…
– A) Luke and Rey seem to be all #MasterAndApprenticeGoals even if Daisy hinted her first meeting with Master Skywalker will be a little… different…
– B) Meanwhile, Poe and BB-8 are all #FriendshipGoals
– C) EVERYTHANG IS SO BEAUTIFUL OMGOODNESSGRACIOUS!
– D) Huh I thought Kylo lost that lightsaber in the fight on Starkiller Base. Did he have to build a new one (which must be hard since it’s a pretty ancient model) or did he just have an extra in his sock drawer?
– E) Biggest thing of all: “It’s time for the Jedi… to end…” WHAT.
– WAHT.
– WHAT DOES IT MEAN….?!
– Is he talking about the Jedi as a group needing to end, so they can be something different, something more? Or is he just kinda blue and done with the Force right now? I’m going with the first option for now, but you can bet this line will consume me from the inside out until one December weekend…
AHHHHHH I LOVE STAR WARS SO MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

HEROINES OF STAR WARS
So having Ahsoka, Sabine, and Rey in the same room was amazing, and with Dave, too! They kicked off the panel with the best video montage of the many many bossladies in the Star Wars galaxy and made me cry a little just with that. It was really cool just hearing their stories as well as their perspective on the depiction of strong female characters. I could honestly go on a while on the topic myself, but for now I’ll just say once again that I’m super pumped for Forces Of Destiny and for all the bossladyness that awaits us in the future of SW (like Rose!). Also two other notes: a) I seriously love the FoD Ahsoka doll and I might have to get that even though my main collecting focus is on the 3.75s. And then b) I cracked up at the original game plan for Out Of Darkness with Hera and Sabine talking about the boys XD Pff that would’ve been kinda terrible if we’d missed out on the emotional journey that episode centered around. Not that I’m adverse to future conversations tho… *COUGHKaneraCOUGHSabezraCOUGH* But yeah! Who runs the galaxy? Star Wars girls! They’re the reason I started throwing around the term “bosslady”! 🙂

MARK HAMILL’S TRIBUTE TO CARRIE FISHER
I’m not sure I can say anything that hasn’t already been said… it was equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming. Mark is so so good, so articulate, and poured out his heart so well on this. Like say, prior to this, I haven’t taken the time to watch the featurettes and interviews that would help me know the amazing people behind these characters more, and the time spent listening to Mr. Hamill, Mr. Davis, and old interview pieces from Carrie… they were really something special. I’d always sort of known that Carrie was a firecracker, but I had no idea just how much until now. You know, as I write this, I was listening to my TCW soundtrack and the track I ended up on right now was #11, “Death Of A Master”. It obviously wasn’t written for her, but this gripping, powerful piece of music really suits my emotional state. And she was a master, you know? Not of the Force, but of brilliant acting and a stellar sense of humor. She’s a princess, a senator, a general, and also an absolute master. That’s all I got man the feels are really feelsy right now…

STAR WARS REBELS
OK WOW. I HAVE NO WORDS. WHICH IS REALLY BAD SINCE I’M WRITING A BLOG. I’M UTTERLY SOBBING AND CAN’T STOP APPLAUDING YOU GUYS.
It breaks my heart kinda to know this will be the last season, but I have complete confidence they’ll end it right. And whatever they have in store next will be fantastic. I didn’t need the trailer for proof, but it certainly was great to see regardless. Yeah this won’t make it hard for me to focus on that Season 3 recap post later! 😛 I adored seeing all the cast and Filoni together again, and knowing we’re coming up on the end makes it all the more a precious moment. They’re a beautiful family… both the Ghost crew and the people behind them.

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Dave talking about Obi-Wan and Maul gave me such feels again.
– Freddie Prinze Jr. utterly killed it in his thoughts on Kanan and Ezra. So brilliantly said!
– “Hot Kallus”?? That was a thing?! Pfff that cracked me up. He’s always been a pretty good-lookin’ dude! why’s the internet just noticing now? XD He’s looking even better than ever in the trailer, though, and I can’t wait to see him full-on Rebellin’! Also I hope we get an entire episode dedicated to watching Ezra, Zeb, and Kallus play video games like the bros they are jk.
– Also you guys how great is it that Warwick Davis is gonna be in this season?! The guy’s such a marvelous talent and a has a fantastic voice, I’m so so glad he’s getting in animated Star Wars already! And playing such a delightfully creepy character to boot!
– More Mandos yaaaaaas!
– Speaking of, that girl cosplaying as Ursa Wren was amazing. I mean… that episode came out only a few months ago! How did she do it??
– Also mad props to the Gregor cosplay, too. I love seeing people who don’t just want to don the armor suits, but become that character even without the helmet on 🙂
– Like say that trailer… on the second viewing I buried my hands in my face and wept. Vanessa Marshall’s narration… my gosh. It sets the stage so perfectly and just overwhelms me with emotions and nostalgia.
– Glad to know that we’re going to see the giant wolves I spotted in the artwork on An Inside Man.
– OK it’s so tempting right now to do a complete recap of the trailer but I don’t think I’ve got the right words to say yet. I will say a few words tho:
– A) WOW WE’RE BACK ON LOTHAL YES! I’ve been all giddy about seeing Yavin but so much of the action we’ve seen is on the world where it all began. NO I’M NOT CRYING YOU ARE.
– B) KANERA. THAT IS ALL. I GOT IT OUT OF MY SYSTEM. NO I HAVEN’T I’M CRYING HARDER NOW.
– C) Sorry I shouldn’t be writing every thought in all caps, but WAIT WAIT WAIT IS THAT BO-KATAN OR AM I COMPLETELY MISTAKEN?
– D) Final note I CAN’T WAIT FOR EVERYTHING OMG.

SMUGGLER’S REVENGE
This was definitely one of the most anticipated panels for me. I didn’t see (or hear, rather) the first one, but I adored the second one, so I was absolutely hyped to experience another one of Kyle Newman’s glorious Star Wars audio stories! The writing is stellar and so perfectly Star Wars, the acting beyond sublime, the sounds well-timed, and oh my gosh Han and Leia banter for days! It’s funny, I kept trying to close my eyes and just listen to the performance, but David Collins and Catherine Taber were so fun to watch as well as listen to! The acting is just so wow in all ways. Everyone just did so so incredibly. David is a perfect Han, and I had no idea Tom Kane was such a masterful C-3PO! I highly look forward to whatever Mr. Newman might be planning in the future! Final thought: MATTHEW WOOD’S WILLHEM SCREAM WAS THE BEST XD

Honestly you guys there are just too many amazing things to mention, it was just an incredibly bountifully joyful weekend of Star Wars. The fandom feels are running through me like electricity right now! It’s an absolute rush! I know I’ll be counting the days ’til next year 😀

Raid On Coruscant: A Closer Look

So with months off before Rebels comes back, no new really big SW news, and my next Star Wars Summer Read still on its way to my library, it seems like a good time to talk some more about the Lego Star Wars specials! Plus, with Droid Tales on the way it’d probably be a good idea to get back in on this. So I bring you my Closer Look on Raid On Coruscant. Enjoyyyyy.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from The Empire Strikes Out, The Phantom Clone, Race For The Holocrons, Raid On Coruscant

When we last left our heroes, things… didn’t go that well. Guess who has two thumbs and all the holocrons? THIS GUYYY! Er… Darth Vader, not me… I guess that joke doesn’t technically work in this context. Never mind. So yeah that’s a problem. Now the Empire has a full list of every planet sympathetic to the Rebel Alliance. Naboo is next on this list. “I can’t figure out how our sign didn’t throw them off!”, yesss because they’d totally buy the “Not a Rebel Base” sign XD I figure Vader had fun laying waste to this planet… on the list of planets associated with his past he’d like to destroy, Naboo’s probably tops on the list. Yeah this does not look good. Yoda and Obi-Wan know that for sure, that’s why they called up their old buddy JEK-14 to lend a Force-enriched hand. But it seems someone didn’t get the memo on that… Qui-Gon Jinn showed up, ready and rarin’ to go to help his comrades! Well, this is awkward. So Obi-Wan and Yoda give their other old buddy a job opening a pickle jar. Qui-Gon’s totally into it “You remembered how good I am at opening things! Let me at it! I have a very particular set of skills.” XD (OMG I just realized they dropped a Taken reference *dies laughing*)
So Vader was going to give his master an update, but it took a bit longer than he would’ve preferred, having to get past his secretary and being put on hold. Makes sense, though. I mean, if you’re Emperor of the entire galaxy you’ve got to be a busy dude. So Darth takes a tea break, only to have Sidious come on the line a minute later. Palpatine’s glad to see his progress, and now offers up the next planet to mess with — Tatooine. Otherwise known as #1 on Vader’s “planets associated with my past that I’d like to destroy” list. It’s funny I wouldn’tve pegged Tatooine for having too many Rebel sympathizers, but apparently any at all is too many as far as the Empire’s concerned. Looks like Threepio’s interview is over…
In the back of the Mos Eisley cantina, Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie discuss their situation and what their next move should be. Luke believes their best move would be to head on over to Coruscant itself and take the holocrons back. Han’s response is hilarious “Kid! You’ve been sleeping with that flashlight-thing too close to your brain!” 😛 Leia’s actually resorted to considering hiding as a good plan, but regardless of the risky nature of the plan, Luke believes that’s their best move. And then in comes a AT-AT… right in the middle of the cantina. Like clockwork, the Empire has arrived. But so also has one JEK-14…
The Falcon crew finds themselves facing down Imperial resistance from both ends, including but not limited to Lord Vader in an AT-AT. Thankfully for our heroes, those things, while impressive and super-cool, take a little work to turn around and that gives them an opportunity to make a run for it. They try for the Falcon‘s docking bay only to be met by Jabba and every bounty hunter he could ever hope to hire to capture Captain Solo. And Luke’s doesn’t work much better… those fangirls of his are back. So things just got more chaotic that it already was. As they were running for their lives, JEK runs up alongside them, introducing himself as a friend of Obi-Wan’s and offering them a lift out of this mess. Luke is a tad skeptical, at least up until JEK uses that arm of his to build a wall between them and their pursuers. But just when they thought they’d gotten out of the soup, they’re met by blasterfire from Vader’s AT-AT. Just when they thought they were back in the soup, Artoo and Threepio take aim at the transport with the Falcon! Vader’s not too happy to see that old thing pwning his weaponry again… and I bet he’d be even less happy to know that two familiar droids were the ones at the controls. So he decides to ditch the AT-AT and meet them full-on with his lightsaber. JEK was about to work his Force-arm magic and turn the Falcon invisible, but his Force-control don’t work as well as it used to. Though it does make an interesting point; obviously age doesn’t impact one’s use of the Force (see: everything Yoda’s ever done), so does that mean JEK’s arm is robotic and not physical? My only problem with that theory is that he was a normal clone who was enhanced by a kyber crystal, so that shouldn’t have turned his arm robotic out of the gate. But technically, JEK isn’t actually Force-sensitive in the traditional sense, he gained some unique abilities via the kyber crystal, but it’s not the same as actual Force sensitivity. He has just as many midichlorians as the rest of the clones (well, maybe a couple more?). So I think my theory of his arm being overcharged by pure Force still stands. Sorry if that made no sense at all, but it’s definitely interesting looking at this concept from a realistic standpoint. So it finally takes Han giving the old guy’s arm a whack to get it back to fully functioning, and with that, the ship disappears from Vader’s sight and flies off to the Kashyyk base. Also yay Qui-Gon got that pickle jar open! “So awkward, this is…” XD
So Vader kinda had to go and explain what happened to Sidious. Sidious isn’t pleased, but there are still plenty of other planets to crush out there. While hunting through the holocrons for a fresh planet, he happens to find one loaded with footage of a young Anakin Skywalker. Consider Darth Vader’s interest piqued. As the master and the apprentice head off to the screening room to find out what their next target is, Vader happens to quietly take the past-self holocron with him. Of course, that “screening room” is technically the senate building (no one told Senator Yawn this, though… poor dude), and in there they find that the planet in question is “Wookiee World”. Vader points out its actual name and location, and to that Sidious drops one of the greatest lines uttered in Lego SW history “Well, you’re a real Star Wars nerd, aren’t you?” SO META! XD XD Though in all seriousness, Rebels, you’re in trouble… but it turns out the Rebels are pretty aware of that. So Luke’s come back to his raid plan again, with help from Mon Mothma and Admiral Ackbar (and of course JEK, who helps polish off the Falcon in a marvelous way), they might stand a chance.
Meanwhile, Vader was taking a moment to watch that holocron he confiscated. It shows an early Clone Wars battle with a younger, nicer him along with Obi-Wan and Mace Windu, all cracking very future-foretelling quips (“When you guys joke around like that it makes me want to get tossed out a high-rise window with my arm cut off!” Seriously? That’s kinda scary…). Vader’s had enough of it and kicks the ‘cron away. It does make you wonder what all Darth’s feeling right now. This is between Episodes IV and V so he knows who Luke is and it’s starting to chip away at his outer shell. He likely still harbors hate for the Jedi and probably still refers to his old self as someone else, but at this juncture I could see him starting to slowly question his allegiances. Face it bro you’ve still got good in ya! But no time to think about that he’s got Rebels to crush!
As for the Rebels, the plan is set, JEK’s knows the lay of the Coruscant land, and Artoo’s got the floor plans! At least, he will once Leia finds the right compact disc to load. Han breaks the awkward silence with “Ever wonder how come we don’t have digital downloads yet?” Pffff XD Luke senses the Empire’s approach, so it’s time for the Rebels to make their move! But by the time they get to Coruscant… the Imperials are gone. That’s because the Imperials already left for Kashyyk! You can imagine how much Vader liked this surprise. Yeahh I had never thought two enemies could miss each other like that, but it’s working in the Rebels’ favor so they have more time to grab those holocrons without opposition. And then enter in the Imperial Guards. OK so the plan’s not entirely without opposition. But duh that’s why JEK-14’s here. #ForceEnhancedBenefits JEK takes a look in the old Holocron Vault and Han and Luke enter into Palpatine’s office. JEK doesn’t find any ‘crons, though he does find himself fighting that old vault droid who doesn’t play fair. But Han knows just how to make their entrance — making one in the Emperor’s office window. And the dark dude hasn’t yet left the building. Then he doesn’t play fair and hides in the closet until he throws all Force lightning on the two young heroes, and that turns into a ‘saber battle between Luke and Sidious. Man, Luke is really doing awesome, standing his ground against such a formidable foe. I mean, Luke’s practically just started his training and Palpatine brought down Jedi masters! Either the Force is really really really with young Skywalker or Palpatine’s just getting old. I’ll leave that up to you to decide.
Oh yeah, and with Artoo’s help, JEK managed to get out of that mess with the vault droid. Artoo grabbed a single ‘cron and whacked him over the head with it (the vault droid, not JEK-14). Back at the battle in Palpatine’s office, the smacktalk had begun. “YOU ARE A WEAK PATHETIC FARM BOY!” “Oh yeah? Well, your teeth are yellow!” “*GASP* WORDS CAN HURT YOU KNOW!” Another one of the best lines ever! 😆 XD Though seriously have we seen one honest-to-goodness Sith without bad teeth? Even most second-rate Sithy-sorts have bad teeth! I guess we can cut Ventress and Savage from this ranking but still! Luke finally knocks the ‘saber from Sidious’ hands, but that only frees him up to Force-grab the boy and throw him out the window. Thankfully, a tour bus full of Jawas was at the right place in the right time. Palpatine thought he could get away scot-free, but didn’t expect to be surrounded at all ends by Han, Chewie, and alllll those Wookiees in the senate building. Luke finally rejoins the party, but the Emperor’s not going to make it easy for our heroes — he threatens to destroy the holocrons! But Skywalker knows how to play his cards right; “Go ahead! Destroy them!” and literally everybody be like “WHUT?“. Luke knows there’s no way Palpatine would really want to destroy all his precious intel. And that’s where JEK comes in, for the good of the galaxy, Luke gives him the command to destroy the holocrons. It’s sad to see all these years worth of documented Jedi history blown to pieces, but if it allows the Rebels to fight another day, then it’s a necessary sacrifice. And with that, the Alliance is heading back to Kashyyk on a good note.
As for Vader, he finally showed up after managing the space battle. And he happened to find Palpatine trapped on top of the senate building, cape caught on its spike, and his heart-print boxers for all the world to see. Yes this was not one of the Darths’ better days.
Obi-Wan and Yoda reflect on Luke’s daring decision. Good news is they can’t be used for evil ever again, bad news is now Luke can’t use the holocrons for Jedi training. It’s Master Jinn who suggests Yoda be the one to train him. And he finally outs them for not being honest with him to start with XD “I would expect more from the guys I taught the ways of immortality to!”
Back on Kashyyk, we’re getting to hang around for the Wookiee party! Sure Ewoks know how to throw an epic soiree but the hairy beasts could give them a run for their money! While the Rebels get down, Luke and JEK talk for a moment, as Luke does regret not being able to at least get ahold of one holocron. But JEK reveals that Artoo did managed to keep one… the one with a young Anakin Skywalker 🙂 Awwwz! “Whoever this Jedi is, he’s amazing! I hope someday I turn out just like him!” Well, I wouldn’t really want you to do that, but still, if one thing tugs at my heartstrings, it’s that image of Luke watching his father as the great man he once was :3
So there you go some random Legoness for your Saturday. Hope all my American readers have a Fourth Of July that’s as much fun as an Ewok-and-Wookiee party! 😀

Of Crimson Kybers: Looking At Sith Lightsabers

Fact: since our good friend Kylo Ren ignited his three-blade in the Episode VII teaser, the world’s mind has been blown all at once. And the internet can’t stop talking about it! I mean, seriously I’m actually finally talking about it! But in the midst of this… I have to wonder if some of us have forgotten just how mind-blowing all the other Dark Sider’s choice weapons are. So for my first topical post of the year (hopefully the first of many), I thought it’d be fun to chat about the spectacular blades of the bad boys and girls in the canonical Star Wars universe and give these ‘sabers a chance to shine. So let’s start at the beginning, shall we? With the “crimson kyber” that started it all… (and before you more educated SW fans eat me alive, I know that Sith don’t use real kyber crystals, it just sounded cool mkay?)
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode I, II, III, IV, V, and VI, much of TCW Seasons 3, 4, and 5, and the Rebels episode Path Of The Jedi.

Darth Vader

I can only imagine what it must’ve been like for those seeing Episode IV for the first time back in ’77, and what it must’ve been like seeing Darth Vader unsheath that legit red blade for the first time. I didn’t see the movie until ’06, and with Episode III having just come out, red lightsabers were nothing really new to me, even in my extremely limited knowledge of SW at the time. So I don’t really recall Vader’s lightsaber reveal hitting me in any huge way. But now as a true-blue SW fan almost ten years later, I can see just what a big deal that moment is and what it must’ve been to anyone who hadn’t seen a Sith ‘saber before. I mean, when all you know thus far is those heroic-looking blue blades, you know instantaneously that that red blade is bad news (if of course, the fact that Vader’s wielding it didn’t already make that clear). His ‘saber’s pretty simple, but its role in the SW universe, and also the fact that it’s the only Sith lightsaber in the Original Trilogy, is too important not to talk about.

Darth Maul
SW Screencap 02
So now imagine how it must’ve felt, having only seen one red-bladed lightsaber in the SW films, and then having the newest baddie in Episode I show up with A DOUBLE-BLADED! If the internet was then what it is now, I guarantee there would be probably way more people mind-blown by this dramatic turn from one blade to two than this recent sword-like one Darth Ren’s flinging around. And even though I didn’t see Episode I until 2011, and it wasn’t news to me then that Maul had a double-blade, it continues to be one of the most impressive and epic-looking weapons ever wielded in the SW galaxy. That three-way duel alone was something of epicness so far beyond what my mind can comprehend…! So yeah, if you needed any sign that the Sith’s return was kinda a big deal, Maul’s lightsaber made that very clear. Of course, it didn’t ultimately make a huge dent in Darth Maul’s success… he did, you know, get cut in half and junk. But of course, you can’t keep a good (or bad, shall we say) Dathomirian down…

Then he got a shiny single-blade ‘saber. And with all those revenge-y feelings going on, he proved to be quite the adversary even with only one blade. Of course he was no match for Sidious ultimately but still, you have to give Maul some points for persistence!

Also, bonus points go to Maul’s epic eight-blade in Lego’s The Empire Strikes Out. If you want to one-up Darth Vader, this is how you do it 🙂 #SithSwag

Count Dooku
SW Screencap 05
While the illustrious Count’s lightsaber seems pretty basic in form on first glance, it’s far from ordinary. Just look at that fabulous curved hilt! It’s both stylish and powerful! Not to mention that curved form must be very ergonomic. I imagine holding a ‘saber for more than a few hours every day could lead to repetitive stress injury, so the fact that Dooku’s fits his hand more fluidly must be why he’s so good at what he does for his age 😀 Hehe this screencap seems to be saying “Oh, you did NOT just make fun of my age.” XD But seriously I’m kidding Lord Tyrannus don’t hurt me.

Asajj Ventress
SW Screencap 06
Ventress’s got a pretty impressive set of ‘sabers from the get-go. The hilt’s curved just like Dooku’s, but she’s got TWO. So double the stylish-ness and powerful-ness! And the girl definitely knows how to swing ’em around in a fight.

Savage Opress
SW Screencap 07
While Maul chose to pick up a single-blade in his escapades in the Clone Wars, Savage decided to give the double-red blade a try. It is seriously one impressive ‘saber. It may be a double-bladed, but it’s distinctly different from his bro’s. Just look at those cool sharp edges on the hilt! And it’s also impressive-sounding, as it emits a very low and growly hum that adds to its wielder’s frightening unpredictability. Mental note: don’t cross paths with this dude unless absolutely necessary. And very few have found it necessary.

Darth Sidious
SW Screencap 08
Whether he wields one lightsaber or two, the Emperor always knows what he’s doing. He pretty much pwned Savage and Maul, and very nearly killed Yoda. The two he throws around in The Lawless just further blow our mind to what he’s capable of. And may I mention the sound again? It’s even nastier than Savage’s! So yeah all I can say about these ‘sabers is that they are the most intense set of weapons possibly to ever be held by a Sith Lord. And we would expect nothing less from the nastiest Sith Lord to grace the series… thus far.

The Inquisitor
SW Screencap 09
For a guy who’s not even an official Sith, he certainly knows his way around a ‘saber. And the ‘Quiz has one seriously epic ligthsaber! A fabulous double-blade that SPINS! It can function as a normal lightsaber but can also be thrown like a deadly frisbee! Is there anything it can’t do?? Of course, the spinning function helps cover up the fact that ‘Quizzy doesn’t know all the ropes when it comes to flinging laser swords around. Why go to all that trouble to spin the lightsaber when you can have the lightsaber spin for you? But The Inquisitor’s skills aside, this ‘saber is still one of the epicest ever, and definitely suits the ‘Quiz’s classy/deadly persona. And since the last episode… you and I both know we don’t want to be on the other end of that blade.

Kylo Ren

And so we come down to this guy’s epic three-blade! I will never forget my reaction to its reveal… I literally gasped in both shock, awe, wonderment, and fangirliness! It’s a totally different build and a very new kind of blade. The other two blades make it resemble a sword, which is totally different and cool! If you’re a newbie Sith awakening for the first time in some twenty-thirty years, you have to make an entrance, and Kylo here did just that! It’s the perfect weapon for walking on a snowy forest planet with a black cloak on! So yeah I have nothing but good things and fangirly things to say about this new ‘saber. Now… we wait another eleven months…

So yes, the bad guys of the SW Universe may not win the battle ultimately, but they sure do know how to make a first impression, strut their stuff, intimidate others, and be awesome in general. And who knows what Sith-y sort will walk in with a discussion-meriting lightsaber next? Only time will tell…

Attack Of The Jedi: A Closer Look

What a treat to get the finale for Lego’s The Yoda Chronicles right before Thanksgiving and the Christmas Season! Thank the maker we didn’t have to wait a whole three months like last time. All the same, it was worth the wait and a fantastic final chapter for this great series! So now, why don’t we get started and join me on my commentary and thoughts on Attack Of The Jedi!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Attack Of The Jedi, Menace Of The Sith, The Phantom Clone, Episode I, Episode II, Episode III, Episode V, Episode VI, The Ewok Adventures Films, Various Ewoks Episodes, and TCW Episodes Duel Of The Droids, Landing At Point Rain, Weapons Factory, Legacy Of Terror, Brain Invaders, and Nightsisters.

First of all, let’s give the Tom Kane narrator guy a round of applause; the guy just read a sentence that hardly made any sense. And his honest response “…I have no idea what I just read. Let’s just say that the bad guys are losing.” is said without missing a beat. OMG I’m sorry that’s too funny…
So the story opens up on a battle on Geonosis with Yoda, Artoo, Threepio, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and the crackerjack team of younglings taking on the Sith and Separatists once again, and ultimately winning. Of course, the fact they’re on Geonosis again gets me thinking… didn’t Obi-Wan, in the TCW Season 2 episode Landing At Port Rain, tell Cody that the upcoming battle would be the second time they’d had to take Geonosis? And Obi-Wan was all “I can’t believe we’re back here again… *frowny face*”. Well, I take it that he’s never exactly thrilled to hang out on that buggy planet, and who would be? My theory is simple: the Geonosis four-parter was a lot harder than this three-minute battle, so I suppose it only counted as taking Geonosis twice. What we’re seeing in the beginning of this escapade is more like a skirmish. And I think we tend to forget that, you know, Geonosis is a planet, not a country. There could easily be a small battle going on in one part while the whole “brain worm” debacle would be coming up elsewhere before long. I guess that makes sense… let’s just go with it, ‘k?
Lego AOTJ Screencap 01
So yeah, the good guys were compeletely pwning the Clone Wars. Funny to think that there was a time in the earlier days of the war when victory was so common, the Senate became a dance floor. Of course, this is Lego SW, which tends to be on the lighter side versus TCW itself when it was sort of a victory-loss-victory-loss sort of pattern on a regular basis (one of these days I ought to try and keep score). And when you think of the fact that in their latest battle, the Jedi just whupped Dooku, Ventress, Grievous, Maul (yuuuupp he’s still hanging around…), and an entire droid army! In ONE LITTLE SKIRMISH. What’s up with that? The fearsome foursome, known for their insane evilness and killing tons of good folks, are forced to abandon ship when Yoda and his gang show up! Wow… but I guess if we’re talking early in the Clone Wars era, Ventress and Grievous are still rookies in the Sith game, and for pete’s sake, Dooku and Maul aren’t too great at evil planning. So I suppose that makes sense. But yeah, Palpatine’s putting on his fake smile on the regular as he makes note of the Republic’s latest win. Also: could this be one of the most interesting Senate meetings ever? Not necessarily because of what was being discussed, but because of Lando Calrissian Sr. and a Basic-speaking wampa with a British-y accent, both reppin’ their planets XD The wampa totally caught me off-guard and got me laughing for ten minutes after the joke was over!
So just as Palpatine stops the pre-party party at his words of “caution”, Commander Cody has made a very interesting discovery: the fearsome foursome are all on Mustafar! And the Jedi are like “BOOM! We got this in the bag!” and are off to what they assume to be their newest victory. Of course, Palpatine just heard all of this and has a chance to surprise attack the Jedi’s surprise attack… >:)
Why exactly are all the baddies in one place? Because after deciding that Sith clones weren’t the way to go, they decided they need to fight fire with fire… or in this case Padawans with… “Bad-awans”.

They figured they needed their own crackerjack team of adventurous kids to help them win! I found this concept quite fascinating; whenever we’ve seen Sith apprentices, they tend to be on the older side. Mostly because, I guess, Force-sensitive people have a choice between sides, and the Jedi just happen to be better at getting to these kids first. Ventress and Dooku were both ex-Jedi, Savage Opress kinda got pulled into it without much choice (not that he’s really Force-sensitive, I don’t think…), Grievous and Maul? Who knows. Soooo… my questions are where on earth (figuratively speaking) did they find this class of Sith Padawans? And the evil little astromech? (Goldie isn’t the only one, I guess…) Perhaps they were all delinquent Jedi students? The kids that all got a “clouded future” report from Yoda? Frankly, I’m scared to ask about the droid. But yeah, they come off pretty cool at first, but the fact that these kids turn on their new masters pretty quickly… well, as far as Dooku and his gang are concerned, that makes them not so cool. THE TWI’LEK GIRL INSULTED MAUL’S LIGHTSABER WHAT THE HECK?! You have to have a seeeeeeriously awful attitude and a serious lack of fear (not to mention a serious lack of respect) to be able to make fun of who is arguably the most terrifying of these second-banana Sith! Perhaps the reason the Sith don’t have younglings is because the kids are literally meaner and harder to control than young adults. The Sith’s little team has a nice lineup of “knights”, a bunch of tough-beans Badawans, and a quirky little darkside droid… all they need is their wise old leader, their “Yoda” shall we say, Darth Sidious, and they will be truly fighting fire with fire!
Buuuut Sidious? He’s sitting in a cockpit crammed in with Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Threepio. His plan was going awesome and he was just swaggering out of his office singing “I AM SO GONNA WIN, GONNA WIN, GONNA WIN…!” to the tune of The Imperial March when he had to switch back to his faux friendly persona at the sight of Master Kenobi and Young Skywalker. So yeah, they naturally wanted to join up and protect him, and it’s all awkwardness and surpressed rage from Palpatine for the rest of the ride. Oh, and that awkward moment when Grievous showed up outside the shuttle window. BWAAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAAA! XD

Though in all seriousness, a part of me sits and watches this and screams “HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE THIS, GUYS?! THE TRAGEDY YOU COULD’VE AVOIDED!!” But you’ve got to love the irony and humor of Palpatine’s little “identity crisis” throughout The Yoda Chronicles all the same.
But yeah, naturally, to cover up for Grievous showing up claiming he’s a fellow employee, Palpatine commenced a chase scene and had the entire fleet head after him. Whiiiiiich naturally led to an asteroid field and basically, the entire armada of good guys got creamed and stranded on an asteroid. I must not neglect to mention how fun it is to watch Anakin and Obi-Wan fighting over how to put the pieces of their fleet back together 🙂 Annnnnyway… with the Jedi Temple Bus/Battleship the only thing left standing, the Padawans know just who could help our Republic friends… JEK-14, the “Phantom Clone”.
So currently, JEK is hanging out on Endor, helping out the ewoks. Makes sense in retrospect. I admit I questioned both Naboo and Mandalore, but certainly they’ve had their share of scuffles. Aside from the ferocious beasts, witches, and the occasional crashed ship, Endor’s probably on the top ten list of the most peaceful SW-sian locales. Oh yeah… and the traps. *Sighs* Ackbar tried to tell you… XD
Lego AOTJ Screencap 04
Though anyone else wonder how it is a guy in clone armor managed to befriend the ewoks when in a couple decades they’d go and beat the crud out of guys in very similar armor? Food for thought.
So once again, a bunch of Jedi come to the doorstep of a pacifist sort and ask for a helping hand and well… you know… the pacifist’s all “no way, no how, forget it.” And that’s still how JEK-14 feels right now. I mean, helping fix up the ewoks’ home is more his game right now, and clearly he still wants nothing to do with the Jedi and Sith sides of him. Usually in these scenarios, you send in The Negotiator, or another peaceful sort… but today, the Jedi send in Bobby. If the Jedi are trained in charm, it’s doesn’t surprise me, especially when Bobby’s sweet little puppy dog eyes pretty much turn around JEK’s final answer just like that. “All right, but only because you asked nicely and smiled.” Also: do you guys really think that Yoda looks weird when he smiles? I don’t think that!

So while JEK joined the Jedi to help piece together their fleet, Palpatine got left on Endor with Threepio and all the happy little ewoks. I can’t help but laugh at how his day is slowly becoming the WORST. DAY. EVER. X)
Lego AOTJ Screencap 06
Meanwhile, in a glorious show of the Force at its finest, JEK-14 puts the fleet back together in the form of a huge, amazing ship (that for whatever reason reminds me of The Axiom in WALL-E…). And it’s in this scene that we see once again Anakin and Luke’s crazy resemblance when he’s all “I don’t believe it.” and JEK is all “And that is why you fail.” Sooo one of Yoda’s most soul-stirring quotes was borrowed from someone else? Ehhhh it’s best not to think about it… anyway, with their new ship, the good guys headed out to Mustafar sending their kind-hearted farewells JEK-14’s way. In that moment, JEK starts to have a change of heart, and right on cue with many of these hard-headed peaceful-y sorts, he now decides to do more to help his Jedi friends.
So as for Palpatine? After having taken more than enough ewok singing and dancing, he pretty much cracks, fakes an ewok allergy, and makes a dash to JEK’s ship, leaving Threepio behind, wondering what just happened. Of course, this doesn’t work well in the future Emperor’s favor, because Grievous once again shows up at the worst possible moment and thinks that it’s JEK-14 in the cockpit… and yeah, he kinda blew it up. Palpatine was not happy. AT. ALL. But at least he finally made it to Mustafar and was able to kick those Badawans into gear… right as the good guys showed up. From then on out, the battle is kinda crazy as the Chancellor “helps” one side and the Emperor helps the other. Just when it seemed the Jedi had lost, JEK-14 shows up on his hastily-constructed little Lego speeder-thingy. And he ulimately fries the baddies, especially considering what Dooku and Grievous put him through last time around. Yes, it’s REVENGE OF THE JEK-I! #terriblepunalert
Lego AOTJ Screencap 07
In the end, the Republic is victorious once more, having themselves a Calrissian-style dance party. Well, Palpatine is still hanging around playing his nice old man card, but for now, we don’t need to worry about that. Except perhaps for the fact that he gave a friendly pat on the back to Anakin, who’d been a bit of a sourpuss at JEK getting all the glory…
“…I think you’re a great Jedi.”
“Thanks. And you’re a good man.”
“And you are an excellent judge of character…”
Whoop, here we goez.
As for JEK, who knows what his future holds? Here’s hoping it’s going to involve a generally peaceful lifestyle that won’t end in some manner of SW-sian tragedy. Perhaps a job making Legos 🙂
And then there’s Threepio. He’s stuck going out of his circuits while the ewoks sing their little song instead of helping him out of yet another trap (well, they think he’s a god, remember? They probably thought he could get himself out!) Hahahaha. XD
So what a fantastic series we’ve had to enjoy this year! Exciting, funny, heartfelt, and all-around fantastic! So until another Lego special rolls around, I’ll still be looking for more to chat about in the Star Wars Universe!

The Art of Quist’rng…

Hey to all you SW fangirls and fanboys out there! I suppose you’ve all heard the newest news about Star Wars Rebels, right? Some of you might’ve heard it straight from the New York Comic Con yourselves (and if you did, I’m so jealous of you). I’m so so insanely insanely excited right now, people! If you haven’t heard, jet down to the SW website right. now. They revealed a lot of awesome stuff, like the exact timeframe Rebels takes place in and where the story starts and how many amazingly epic TCW people are working on it. And then they revealed the first fully-rendered character art for Rebels: of a really bad guy named The Inquisitor! My literal first reaction, besides my admiration that it’s keeping the style of TCW, was “this guy is so scary he’d make Darth Maul cry!” And yeah, I’d say that definitely suits “Quizzy” here (hehehe I’m so going to start calling him that). I mean, he’s one of those freaky Mortis guys with the freaky white and red skin and yellow-y eyes, and he wears all black (as most baddies tend to do), and he carries around double-bladed lightsaber. This guy may be only third banana on the Imperial food chain, but he looks like the sort not to be taken lightly. If Maul, Savage, Ventress, and Grievous all went to the same school, he would’ve been the schoolyard bully. That’s how bad he is. Buuuuuut… well, no one said us Earthlings couldn’t “take him lightly”! (Though if you’re hanging around on Clone Wars Adventures or The Old Republic, you might not want to do that XP jk)
That’s why I came up with this new idea for an internet craze/sensation thingy. Risky, I know, as I have never done such a thing. But I mean… I’m always talking backwards about SW, it seems. I didn’t get into the films and everything else until 2010, so due to my lack of interest, I wasn’t really there at the beginning when any of the films came out or when any of the series came out. I merely spent the last few years catching up and watching anything new that has come out (mostly TCW episodes and Lego stuff). But now, I can hardly believe that I’m about to be there at the beginning of a whole new SW era with Episode VII, Rebels, Detours, and beyond! It’s a crazy feeling, you know? It boggles the mind at where I’ll be in five years when the Sequel Trilogy is in full swing and Rebels will likely be on its last season. I mean, seriously, just think about it! I think it’s pretty amazing whether you grew up with the Original Trilogy or if your earliest memory involved Ahsoka’s adventures in TCW. This series is getting bigger and even more awesome by the minute, as we live and breathe. So this is just an experiment to see if it catches on. A way we’ll all look back and remember how The Inquisitor was the first character revealed. I call it “Quist’ring”! The art of making “Quist’rs”!
Basically, I took the artwork of Quis here and transformed it into a Chuck Norris-style meme. All you have to do is come up with just how bad, scary, malevolent, dangerous, or jerky ol’ Quizzy is and have it be hilarious. Here are a few of my hopefully-funny attempts at Quist’rs.
Quistr01
My first thoughts on him.

Quistr02
Points if you catch the reference here. If you don’t, you probably won’t get it.

Quistr03
This one’s really not that funny, especially if you’re like me and don’t hate Mondays. But I tried…

So now I challenge you to make your own Quist’r and post it wherever you post stuff! Your blog, tumblr, twitter, wherever! Please don’t link me to it, though as I still don’t allow comments. And make a point to keep them clean, I know that this could get really bad really easily. But if we do enough and they’re really good, who knows? They could become the biggest thing since Vadering!
So, we may still have a while to go before we get to see The Inquisitor in action, let’s have some fun with the Empire, shall we? I bet you’ll see a few new Quist’rs in future posts!
