Rebel Transmissions: Warhead

It’s not easy waiting when SWR goes on hiatus, but writing about it helps a lot! So today I’ll see if I can bring you some interesting analyzings and observations (and maybe even a few laughs) as we take a closer look at the wonderful episode Warhead.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Rebels episodes The Forgotten Droid, An Inside Man,Β and Warhead

I knew early-on that Warhead would be partially centered around likely dangerous droid, but soon as I saw him step out of the pod, I was all “Aww it’s a McQuarrie-esque protocol!! There’s no way a droid this adorbs could be deadly!” Yes I was aware the pods came from an Imperial ship, and I suppose it did come to mind that his pleasant exterior could be a ruse, but at this moment, I just fangirled over his design. Looking back though, I can’t help but root for the krynka…
Today the mini-Alliance is going on a road trip — well, actually it’s a training mission. Same difference. Wedge and Hobbie ramming into each other is hilarious, but the real icing on the cake is Zeb and Ezra exchanging a fistbump right afterward. I’m thinking this display of klutziness is normal and Zeb and Ez get a kick out of it. Either that or, as my brother suggested, there might’ve been some pranking involved. Bros tied the newbies’ shoelaces together XD Oh wait this is SW no one wears shoelaces. Whatever the case, it’s a priceless little moment that remains a favorite. Unfortunately, that’s where the fun ends for Zeb. Chief of Security’s gotta stay behind at the base with Chop and AP-5. You can tell from the get-go this’ll be fun because, despite Zeb’s grumblings, there’s no human way an episode starring these three could possibly be boring πŸ˜€ I could see why he’d think that, perhaps. He’s a Captain through-and-through, and I imagine he doesn’t like not having a real job to do when everyone else does. And even if he wouldn’tve had anything to help out with on the mission, I think he’d simply appreciate having the company of his crew-fam. But instead today he’s got the company of the cranky C1 and the opinionated protocol. Right off the bat, AP-5 questions if Zeb’s qualified to be put in charge of anything to begin with. “Counting crates, not my idea of fun,” “Is that because you never learned to count?” Pffff so much droid snark it’s a beautiful thing! XD I’ve missed seeing AP-5 more often. He’s such a great character and lately we’ve only seen him in small increments, so getting to see him in a larger role again is just delightful. But seriously AP, Zeb is not a stereotypical all-muscles-no-brains “big guy”, he’s an intelligent military leader who’s got ’em both! You’ve literally known him almost a year you should know this. But then again, he doesn’t seem like the kind of droid who’s easily convinced about anything πŸ˜› AP goes off to do some inventory, Zeb goes off to check on a potential problem ’round their perimeter, and Chopper joins him because sure as heck he ain’t helpin’ AP with the inventory XD
Our Chief of Security finds something interesting at the outskirts, though, a downed protocol who clearly got caught in the spidercrabs’ crossfire. I do wonder what exactly downed the krynka though. Either they killed each other fighting over the droid or else, well, I betcha the droid knew how to handle himself… yikes. Or maybe I’ve missed something entirely. Also of major note I LOVE THE COLOR OF THAT LANDSPEEDER ERMAGOSH. Chopper I’m thinking wanted to scrap this stray (and I bet for his own benefit. So many spare parts! XP ), but Zeb votes they take him in and fix him up. Once fully-functioning again, the newbie reveals himself to be super-useful and also quite respectful. He immediately racks up numbers on a good chunk of the inventory and gives Captain Orrelios a proper salute. It’s no wonder that AP and Zeb quickly take a liking to him. Chop’s not a fan though; nobody calls him “obsolete” and gets away with it! And all of this starts to remind of something I learned in an episode of Droids: if your astromech doesn’t trust a new droid, then you shouldn’t either. Then soon as Zeb turns around Fulcrum shoots him a warning about an Imperial recon droid who could kill them all and give away their location while he’s at it. And funny he sort of looks like the newbie– OH NO. Soon as AP makes mention this is a Rebel base, his new friend remembers his directive and reveals himself to be EDX-9, your worst nightmare. With multiple glowing red eyes, towering height, blender-hands, and an inhuman voice that makes your skin crawl, “worst nightmare” is rather an understatement. Especially since he happens to be agile, fiercely strong, and knows how to bring the fight like no other droid. OK maybe K-2SO could give him a run for his money, but otherwise… yeesh they’re in trouble. Zeb manages to damage him a little with a blast to the hand, but the monstrous machine quickly slips into the shadows to seek out new parts. Yeah is that not creepy that the EDX attacks other droids to fix himself? Gosh I’m starting to feel I’d be better off referring to EDX-9 as an “it” not a “he” because it’s too terrifying to stick a personality on. Zeb, AP, and Chopper try to formulate a plan, but right now the best bet they’ve got is for Zeb to jump the EDX and AP to shut it down. All Chop’s gotta do is be the bait. Not a fun job but someone’s gotta do it…
Meanwhile, on the training mission… “How’d you think Zeb’s doing back on base?” “Probably relaxing and playing dejarik or eating some space waffles or something.”
In reality: wrestling with a killer recon droid and very nearly losing. EDX dished out some blows on Zeb so sharp I could feel them. Like OMG that’s gotta smart. I don’t think I could breathe again until AP-5 finally shut him down. But surprise! The droid’s a ticking time bomb ready to take the whole base down now! OmO Chopper’s able to freeze its countdown circuits, but it won’t work indefinitely. And that’s only half the problem — the Empire’ll come looking if it doesn’t report back, but they certainly can’t let it return to the Empire with all the intel it’s gained, and there’s absolutely no way to keep it from ultimately blowing up. “THINK, ZEB, THINK!” “This should take a while…” XP But then awesome idea: they’ll let EDX return home… but ready to detonate! All it takes is for AP to do some rewiring and off EDX-9 goes! Back to its ship, back to its Star Destroyer, and that warhead makes for a beautiful explosion! Kallus can’t help but give a slight smile at the sight. Also those dork Imp technicians were great. I kinda want to know their story now. I imagine the first one’s a bit green and the second’s seen a lot more, perhaps why his famous last words were merely “Ohhhhh myyy…” XD Yes things went pretty well in the end. Zeb and AP-5 actually (sorta) respect each other now. The rest of the Ghost fam don’t quite know what to make of Fulcrum’s congrats, and I’m thinkin’ will welcome a full explanation. Well, at least mostly full, anyway… Zeb would rather AP leave out the part where he brought a dangerous droid on base… πŸ˜›
Um bad news though… knowing that the Rebels reprogrammed the droid has narrowed down Thrawn’s options. 94 planets stand between the mini-Alliance and the Empire now. That’s not a lot, but let’s sure hope it’s enough…
And then I was all “NOOOO IT CAN’T BE TIME TO ROLL THE CREDITS!! I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!” but this is a normal reaction to episodes that end on notes like this. Had a great deal of fun talking about Warhead today, and I’ll see you next week for Trials Of The Darksaber! Because danggg that’s gonna be a lot of good stuff to talk about.

Celebration Europe Excitement!

Next to film release day, there are few more thrilling days of the year than Star Wars Celebration! I felt bad that I didn’t talk about last year’s events as much as I should’ve. So this year, I’m going to write down a fangirly paragraph or two on every panel I’m able to catch! So get excited!! I’ll be updating this post as things happen.
NOTE: As far as spoilers are concerned… depends on the panel I’m talking about. Just in general you should’ve seen all the movies and the shows and stuff. And the panels too.

Let the nerding out begin!

AHSOKA’S UNTOLD TALES
Words can’t describe how fun, exciting, and feely this panel was. But I’m gonna try anyway ’cause that’s why I’m here. Just… OMG wow! We see Ahsoka riding a giant wolf and leading the Clones into battle and fighting Darth Maul and reuniting with old friends and making some new friends (at least this Nix guy anyway hehe) and pretty much just winning at everything. Beautiful concept art, a delightful storyreel clippy, and a few of the amazing people behind them… all in the same room. SO WIZARD. The panel answered some questions that needed answering and gave us the slightest beautiful little promise we might might might might see her again. Also that book. Can’t wait for that book. The excitement is electric bro. Funny story in that first sketch of Ahsoka and Nix I’ll be honest I thought that was Han for a moment XD That would be an interesting story though…

ILM SW ARCHAEOLOGY
Wasn’t 100% certain what this panel was about until I started watching it and DANGGG IT IS SO COOL! Got to learn a little what goes into recreating what we see in Episode IV for Rogue One. Can only imagine how painstaking a job that is so I applaud you heartily, ILM! Stormtrooper helmets, Star Destroyers, the Death Star… all beautifully nostalgic but beautifully new at the same time! Just taking a closer look at the Rogue One teaser again I’m astounded at the detail! And Doug Chiang talking about miniatures and card models and matte paintings?? SO COOL. The work they put into these films, again, is incredible. Oh! And the stuff they did on The Force Awakens too! This is actually the first time since that sizzle reel from a year ago I’ve really gone behind the scenes on VII, at least in a featurette/documentary sense, anyway. Yes I’m dumb and don’t have the Blu-Ray yet. Anyway, as a whole this entire panel re-reminded me what a massive amount of work goes into making these films, as well as how amazing these ILM folks are. Ahh the technology and artistry behind SW always makes me giddy :3 Also, ❀ that moonwalkin' trooper!

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY
I’m so so sorry I haven’t talked more about my excitement for this film. I mean, when those photos came out the “Rogues” were all I could think about, but I had other things to blog about so I wasn’t able to give it the attention it deserves. Certainly there will be plenty of times between now and December to talk about it, and then for the rest of my life afterward, but hopefully I’ll be able to get some thoughts out in the post today. First my gosh isn’t Gwendoline Christie such a fun host?! She made this panel even more delightful than it already was! Captain Phasma may be all business but IRL she’s an excited fan like the rest of us! I suppose that’s not too surprising because not many people working on SW these days aren’t fans from the get-go but it’s cool all the same πŸ™‚ Anyway, it’s truly amazing how everything fell together and how Rogue One began. And the folks working on bringing to life are truly amazing as well. Wow I’m just stating the obvious aren’t I? But it’s true! All of it! *SHOT* πŸ˜› The energy in the room when the cast came out was just on fire, and Ben Mendelsohn coming out on stage in full regalia?? I know it’s been said before but WHOAAA he just OWNED IT. Never has a white suit and cape looked so dastardly and so classy at the same time! And of course the sizzle reel was beyond fantastic. There were too many great shots, but it was often the sweet little moments that stood out to me the most in some ways. Jyn handing the fruit to the villager for one (tough girl got heart awwz!). Seeing droids and several different species was awesome. I mean, I love that the main cast is mostly human, as it further exemplifies this idea of ordinary people making an extraordinary difference, but I’m glad we get to hang out with a few nonhumans along the way too, like that floofy white dude :3 All that beautiful old-meets-new imagery in general! Honestly I loved it all and I hope I’ve made that point very clear. The whole cast is just awesome, I’ll just go ahead and say that. After reading up on the characters and seeing their photos on EW, the fangirl gears didn’t stop turning. Each of them so unique, all sort of outcasts who come together ultimately for a common purpose, I couldn’t wait to meet them all. Fun fact, Chirrut is currently the one I have the most questions about, well maybe he and Saw are tied… anyway, I look forward to sharing those thoughts at a later date. But getting to see the actors portraying them and getting a further idea of their characters’ stories makes me love them even more than before. Also K2 is perfect, but you knew that XD And howzabout that poster tho?! It’s gorgeous!! It’s just all kinds of wow all around! Similar to feelings I had last year, I can’t tell if this has made it easier to wait, since I’m getting to learn more, or harder to wait, since I’ve still gotta wait until December to see it all. Either way, hype thrusters are GO!!

STAR WARS REBELS
After glimpsing Ezra’s new look earlier this week, I have to say the SWR panel was possibly the most highly anticipated for me. Not to say any of the other panels weren’t highly anticipated, but the majority of questions and queries on my mind lied with the fate of the Ghost family. And of course, the panel didn’t disappoint. Loved seeing Warwick Davis and Dave Filoni again, and Tiya Sircar and Sam Witwer were great. Seeing Mr. Witwer was a bit of surprise for me, since I had no clue he would be involved in the next season. Somehow I figured he’d go find someone else’s life to mess up somewhere else in the galaxy, but nope bro ain’t finished yet. (EDIT I hope it was clear I was talking about Darth Maul and not Sam Witwer in this sentence. YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG MR. WITWER!!) But it’s exciting and intriguing all the same. Everything goin’ on is exciting and intriguing. I mean… wow! For one, yay I called it Sabine finally gets that jetpack! Probably not accidentally purchased from someone who stole from Boba Fett, but still IT’S A JETPACK!! Everybody’s looking good with their new looks. Though I’ll always remember Ezra for his long hair, his short cut gives him a slightly more mature look for this chapter in life as he grows up, kind of sort of Luke-ish. Kanan has more fuzz now and that’s cool XD And of course Sabine gives me major hair envy as per usual. And then there’s that little thing with a dude named Thrawn… as you may know, I haven’t read Heir To The Empire and really anything by Timothy Zahn aside from an Insider short story. But I have heard of Thrawn, and as a fan of Ryder Windham’s Clone Wars Secret Missions series, I already think the Chiss species is awesome, so it makes me happy to know not only that Thrawn is now officially canon, but that his species is too πŸ™‚ And thanks to his involvement in Rebels, I’ll likely make a point to read the classic novel sometime soon. So no questions I’m excited about season 3! But along with that excitement, there’s also some fear too… because honestly man I have no clue if anyone’s gonna make it out of this alive. That’s what I was thinking about last year, too, but danggg I don’t know how they keep finding new ways to up the ante, but they always do and they always deliver. And that’s just one of those things I love about Rebels and SW as a whole πŸ™‚ Oh yeah and YESSSSSSS MAZ KANATA NEEDS TO MAKE IT INTO REBELS SOMEDAY!!

THE FREEMAKER ADVENTURES
Only got to read the liveblog on this one, but still good solid stuff. They may be Legos but these guys as Lucasfilm take them seriously as serious can get! So yay/aw situation: I was right about Zander’s age, not right about Kordi. Kordi is middle child, not the firstborn like for some reason I got into my head, but that makes her bossladyness all the more impressive. Why yes I do think about these things! Thank you for noticing. Oh it must’ve been great to hear Matthew Wood speaking as Roger for the audience! Y U NO STREAM THIS??? I do love they communicate with Leland Chee to make it as believably canon as they can get, ’cause aside from the occasional Lego self-awareness and SW jokes it’s canon in my mind. And yesss the idea of the Rebs running into the Freemakers… that would be a lot of fun… assuming anyone lives after this next season… OmO Good stuff tho! Those minifigs are my children! :3

STAR WARS PUBLISHING
Great great stuff is coming in the book world. No need for me to tell you that though. A whole collection of McQuarrie art! The Complete Locations! The beautifully-illustrated storybooks! And seriously why are we Yanks not able to read the Adventures In Wild Space series yet?? We better be able to soon ’cause you know I’m not missing out on a single canon chapter of this saga! (Or any chapter really) Either way, with stuff like this coming out, SHUT UP AND TAKE MAH MONEYYYYZ!!

RAY PARK
So this was really the first time I got to meet the man behind the Maul. I honestly didn’t know all that much about him (just my fault for not watching more of the featurettes πŸ˜› ), but I absolutely adore him now. He is literally one of the nicest people I’ve ever seen! Watching him pal around with Warwick and teach fans both young and old his moves was fantastic. Gave me some feels when he personally answered the shy little boy’s question, and in the best way :3 And it’s really cool he’s still keeping up with and enjoying Maul’s further misadventures. SWC never fails to remind me that the people behind the magic of Star Wars are as amazing as the saga itself! Plus, the whole thing made me wish I knew some martial arts. Need to work on that…

Honestly there are too many things to talk about. So much talent, so much creativity, so much joy, so much passion… you could see that in everyone there, fan and filmmaker alike. The future of SW is looking so so bright, and I am beyond thrilled to see what comes next ❀

And don't worry. If I didn't cover something here, I'll likely talk about it in future posts. Can't wait 'til the next big reason to celebrate!

Rebel Transmissions: A Princess On Lothal

And so the another Rebel Transmission has arrived! And yes I know it’s another late one. *Crosses fingers for another hiatus so I won’t have to blog about two episodes in one week when the finale gets here* But there’s no doubt it’s an episode worth writing for. So thus arrives A Princess On Lothal!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode V, Episode VII and Rebels episodes Legacy and A Princess On Lothal

So I was pleasantly surprised to see this episode follows immediately off the heels of Legacy. The last episode could have easily been wrapped up then-and-there, but they did an absolute beautiful job carrying over the events and emotions of Legacy in On Lothal. Hera has called in for an update while Speedster the white lothcat watches curiously (yes I have named the lothcat deal with it). Hera clearly feels for Ezra’s situation, but just as quickly shows her gratitude to Governor Azadi. And she bears good news as well with Bail Organa delivering some reinforcements and a few big magnificent ships to Lothal. Kanan hopes a little action’ll get Ezra some of his mojo back. Now… if only those reinforcements could get to Lothal already. Lieutenant Lyste isn’t making it easy for ’em. It shouldn’t be hard for a little Imperial senate relief mission to come through, right? Well, it’s not that it’s hard, really, it’s just that it comes with TIE escorts, which wouldn’t be a problem if these were normal Imperial senators, but this is PRINCESS LEIA ORGANA, and she is NOT a normal senator. And thank goodness for that. Also yes let’s just fangirl/fanboy over Leia’s arrival to SWR, shall we? SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! It’s always great seeing the cast run into familiar faces, obs. But seeing them cross paths with a character with such a massive impact to the galaxy as she does… it’s just phenomenal. Her Rebels look is absolutely perfect (I MUST TRY AND STEAL HER HAIRSTYLE) and her voice is spot-on. There’s no doubt the future-general-who’s-always-royalty-to-me is here in the flesh! And it’s definitely a ton of fun seeing her as a young but still just as strong-spoken teen. Just like her mama πŸ™‚
OK so I’m getting ahead of myself a bit. We find Ezra still working through the aftermath of it all. Chopper is being an absolute sweetheart and standing by his side, just being there for him. But now it’s time to get up and go meet with the reinforcements. And they get to do it in stormtrooper disguises, how fun is that? Young Bridger doesn’t seem quite as thrilled as Kanan might’ve been hoping for, but it’s a start. Azadi gives them his ride, but isn’t terribly interested in getting involved beyond that. Poor Kanan… he’s seriously the only person with any enthusiasm today. So with that the boys are goin’ to town to find three old freighters now a part of their squadron and one young senator who don’t take crud from nobody. “WELL EXCUUUUUUSE ME PRINCESS!” (hehe I need to go make that a meme now). Leia don’t need anyone to tell her anything. She’s already familiar with these Rebs and has a plan of her own. Ezra’s all “WHY DOES SHE GET TO GIVE ORDERS?!”. Because she’s the boss lady EZ, that’s why. And then there was a tiny hitch in the plan. Lyste brings out what are basically giant parking boots to keep the senator’s ships from being pilfered by rebel scum. Whee fun being a double agent! They even brought a couple AT-ATs for backup. Yeesh talk about overkill. It’s like the entire universe is against Leia and the Rebs right now. Paranoid much, Lyste? Yet he doesn’t look too paranoid… in fact it looks like he kinda having fun making her day more complicated than it needs to be, even though he has no idea where her real loyalties lie. But Leia knows how to handle this dork. First by correcting his use of “miss” into “your highness” XD And then insisting she use the Lieutenant’s shuttle. Lyste don’t look too smug now. DA PRINCESS IS BOSS. But the minute they get on board, Leia admits there were some flaws in her plan. Her honesty on the matter makes her even more boss. Just now all they need to do is get a new plan. Especially when Chopper finds that ‘troopers captured Ryder. Kanan’s gonna make this up as he goes. Clearly since he didn’t have all of his lines rehearsed when explaining himself to the buckethead commander. The commander don’t got time for that because he has a prisoner to execute (le gasp!). Leia steps up to question why, and that’s when Hera arrives right on time as usual. Those troop transports got some paint scratched, as well as few other things that may not buff out. Indeed it is good to have friends in high places. Especially if that’s literal because they fly a lovely Corellian craft. So in the midst of the chaos, Kanan comes up with the next phase of the plan: taking the princess hostage. Or at least making it look like they are. Azadi grabs Leia, Kanan goes after Leia, Zeb gives Kanan a facefull of bowcaster. Hehe I think Zeb enjoyed his part of the plan a bit more so than the “troopers” did. “They’re taking prisoners??” “They do that now?!” XD Stormtroopers who comment on stuff like real people are my favorite stormtroopers (I mean, aside from Finn, if he still counts). And with that, the Ghost and Phantom are outta here! Yes Ezra and Kanan are gonna feel that for a week. If they were cartoon characters, Kanan would have a black eye and Ezra would be minus a tooth or two. Seriously, what purpose do those helmets serve? Lyste, meanwhile, is quite freaked out now knowing he lost the very person he was intending to protect. Boy do those Rebs know how to put on a show! πŸ™‚
As the Ghost flies along, Leia takes note of Zeb and Sabine offering Ezra some genuine words of comfort, which btw is amazingly sweet to witness. Like I went on and on about in the last Transmission, I adore how much these guys are there for each other, that they truly will stand by him as long as there are stars in the galaxy. There are plenty of times where they don’t get along and/or poke fun at each other, but their bond is solid, man. Kanan explains a little of the situation to Leia, and suggests that Ezra might could use another friend to talk to. Leia continues her streak of boss-lady-ness by doing so. And also yes Kanan, that’s what Ezra’s really needed today… ‘trooper helmets and mini-Alliance missions are fun, but just talking with someone who cares can often be the best kind of healing balm. So yes, watching Ezra look at his family portrait once again brings many tears to my eyes once again. Leia gets him man… it’s hard to have this much responsibility at their age, it’s hard sometimes to keep fighting when it seems like nothing will change. But they both know that fighting for what’s right is the right thing to do regardless. Just… wow. The conversation gives Ezra the encouragement and strength to get back in the game and finish helping Leia on her mission. Now, when I first saw that ad and the whole “You think that’s impressive? Watch this” bit, I start thinking “Ohhhmygosh he is literally crushing on Leia… this is going to be a thing…”. But they totally didn’t go that route, which I’m totally fine with, though the notion was quite funny. Instead we get some real solid friendship moments that are worth their weight in gold, in addition to some wonderfully well-played bits of sarc. Leia and Ezra have more in common than they know, and that makes it all the more amazing seeing them cross paths. The whole “impressing the princess” thing would’ve been fun, but the Lucasfilm crew went an even better route that leaves me reeling with feels. Besides, I rather ship them respectively with a couple of sometimes-scoundrely sharpshooters with fabulous enviable hair (*coughHanAndSabineIfThatWasn’tObviouscough*) πŸ˜‰
Ezra and Leia walk in on the rest of the Ghost crew trying to figure out the next step to the plan. It’s not looking too too good with all those AT-ATs and Imperial forces in the way of their ships. Even Hera isn’t sure what to say this time around. So enter PRINCESS BOSS LADY! Leia recognizes these are tough obstacles, but she’s full of serious can-do spirit and insists on hearing not what they can’t do, but what they will. Dude I so wish I had that kind of attitude. *Bows to Princess Boss Lady* And so one idea leads to another, Ezra and Kanan keep stormtroopin’ and the Rebs do some distractin’. Even grumpy Ryder can offer some knowledge on how those Imperial parking boots come apart. YAAS ALL THE TEAMWORKZ!! So you can imagine Lyste’s surprise when Leia and her brave ‘troopers showed up unscathed. She may insist Kanan deserves a medal, but Leia herself deserves an Oscar for the performance she puts on as Azadi, Sabine, and Chopper make quick work freeing those ships. Oh it’s delightful watching Lyste assure her the ships are “safe and sound” just as one starts to fly away XD “If you’re trying to impress me Lieutenant, you’re doing a miserable job!” Another golden SW quote to use in everyday conversations πŸ™‚ The stormtroopers point all blasters in Azadi and Chopper’s direction, to which Sabine points some guns of her own back at them. A shot from an AT-AT knocks Sabine out of the driver’s seat (dude why do these things not have seatbelts?), but Hera and Zeb quickly return fire from the Ghost‘s cockpit. One down, two to go, for both ships free and AT-ATs downed. When one ‘trooper decides to take aim at Azadi from the ground, Kanan finally stops playing the role and smacks that guy down. And then Ezra takes on another. It took a minute for him to figure out where exactly to aim his fist but once he did he made a solid punch that actually made me cringe a little thinking how it must hurt. Again, useless helmets are useless. Especially when they evidently come off quite easily. Skillz bruh. Anddd then enters AT-AT #2. Leave that to Kanan. He causes quite the stir whipping out his blade. Azadi’s mindblown, the AT-AT drivers are like “whut”, and indeed Leia is impressed… just about borderline fangirling (“DID YOU SEE THAT?!”). Because seriously he SLASHES THE LEGS and knocks it down just like that. I’d say “why didn’t Luke just try that?” but I’m betting after this stunt the Empire made the legs stronger from there on out. Kanan is the living breathing McQuarrie painting of the stormtrooper with a lightsaber. Too awesome for words man. Not to be outdone Ezra shows off some of his Force skillz, which was great up until he smacked himself in the head with the blaster he Force-grabbed XD Doesn’t take any use of Force for Leia to turn and one-up him though as she nails a couple ‘troopers with a blaster. Awz again just like her mom πŸ™‚ But she encourages her comrade to keep up the good work anyway XD So now only one freighter remains. Leia slips back into the role of the disgusted Imperial senator and acts relieved to see some more ‘troopers. Unfortunately this somewhat backfires as the commander throws out orders to shoot to kill. The Ghost continues trying to keep the last AT-AT busy and its guns away from the Rebel ships. Azadi makes a risky move and starts getting the next ship off the ground before Chopper’s fully unlocked it. And then quite epicly blows that walker right over. Hehe bro totally enjoyed that, you can tell X) Before Ezra leaves with the rest of the crew, he has one more scene to perform. They say their goodbyes right before Leia gives Ezra clearance to stun her. Ahmagoodness love all the friendshipness!! So while Lyste panics over the stunned senator, the Rebels fly off victoriously. And Princess Boss Lady has a few words to say to the Liutenant XD Yes, it’s not always easy, but I think she really enjoys the role of Imperial-Senator-By-Day-Rebel-By-Night. That’s just one of the things that makes Leia Organa such a truly amazing character πŸ™‚
It’s been a crazy day for our Rebels, but a good one for sure. And now Governor Azadi’s decided he belongs among them, helping in their noble quest. All I can say to that is “YAAAS ALL THE TEAMWORKZ!” (pff sorry I’m terrible) πŸ™‚
So that was fun. Glad I could write it and maybe spark some discussion or give some feels or make you laugh! (at the funny moments or at me, whatever works)

Rebel Transmissions: Spark Of Rebellion

Welcome my friends to the maiden voyage of what I’m calling Rebel Transmissions (you have to say it in a cool radio voice whenever you read it out loud). As you may have guessed, this is basically a fancy name for my closer look posts on the episodes to come of Star Wars Rebels. And uh yeah I’m pretty much hopelessly obsessed with the show now. Sooo anyway, we’re about to dig into the exciting new world of the Ghost crew in the show’s fantastic pilot! Get on board and buckle up as the first Rebel Transmission hits the airwaves!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode III and the Rebels episode Spark Of Rebellion.

Rebel Transmission 101 Title Image

Soooo it was an ordinary day on Lothal… and then oh look, an Imperial Star Destroyer. And guess who they flew right over? An old communication tower where lives a kid named Ezra Bridger. Ah yes! It doesn’t take long for Rebels to pull you in, for sure. Honestly I can’t really put this opening into words that would do any justice to it… but give me a break! It’s the first episode, people! Of the first Star Wars anything I’ve gotten to be a part of since its beginning! I was a late bloomer in the SW fandom… saw the Originals about thirty years after they came out, the Prequels between five and eleven years post their release, the Clone Wars three years after they debuted… it’s a huge deal right now to be coming alongside a new chapter in the Star Wars galaxy as it happens. So if any of this blog comes off bumpy and off-kilter, pleeeease understand that I’m having trouble not nerding out entirely. But yeah, anyway, returning to the episode…
It’s a crazy thing to think about… going about your business in the town square while TIE fighters fly overhead. If the massive Star Destroyer didn’t already make you keenly aware of what a big deal the Imperials are right now, then those TIEs definitely do. It’s also crazy thinking that Stormtroopers could come along and crash your party whenever they want. One minute this poor old Gothal was making some spare cash and the next thing he knows he’s being arrested for treason. Unfair. And these Imperials just don’t care! Jerk Imperial #1 just takes a bite out of the guy’s fruit and is all “Yeahhh and what are you gonna do about it? We’re the Empire and you’re not!”. And everyone else in the vicinity is kinda too scared to get involved. But enter Ezra: riffraff, street rat, scoundrel… you’ll love him. He’s in and out before you know it — snatching up Jerk Imperial #2’s comlink without anyone noticing. And thens comes in a call to one of the Imperials and they have to ditch the “traitor” for an emergency. And ugh Jerk Imperial #1 still leaves his mark on the oldster by throwing his fruit basket back on him; honestly, it’s often the little things the Imperials do that really makes my blood boil. But surprise… Ezra’s doesn’t just have sticky fingers, but he’s also a master of imitating Imperials, as the Gothal looks up and sees the kid on the other end of the com. Andddd then Ezra kinda ruins his short-lived good guy streak and nabs a few fruits. But hey, he only steals what he can’t afford! Ah I’m sorry but seriously Aladdin and Ezra are almost the same person… both thieves with a heart of gold who find themselves suddenly in the midst of something much larger. And a bit akin to the other “street rat”, Ezra makes his exit climbing atop the buildings, catching a glimpse at the confused Imperials while he’s at it. But then our hero’s attention is mysteriously drawn to a figure in the streets. And that someone kinda picks up on it too, but moves along anyway. Methinks something Force-y is going on here. That “someone”, is who we know as Kanan Jarrus, at the moment, though, Ezra just knows him as some dude in the crowd. But as Ezra keeps watching, it starts becoming clear that something’s up as Kanan exchanges a signal with another guy (that would be Zeb) and Zeb exchanges that signal with a girl (that would be Sabine) and then Sabine in turn casually blows up a ‘trooper’s ride. The Imperials freak out and make a point to get their cargo to safety asap, and Ezra takes that as a hint something valuable might happen to be in those crates. Needless to say, things are about to get craaaaazyyy…!
Once the ‘troopers come out, Kanan and Zeb show up. Kanan handles that blaster of his like a boss, and Zeb gives them a taste of his awesome Lasat strength. And their combined awesome makes them come out on top pretty quickly. Of course, neither of them expected this street kid to “borrow” the Imperials’ speeder… and the crates with it. This plan didn’t call for any chase scenes, but now Kanan and Zeb are on the move. Hehe is it wrong I love watching these guys plow over the Stormtroopers with their cargo-laden speeders? Those white-armored guys go down like dominoes! XD
But guess who was one jump ahead of Ezra’s perfectly executed steal? Sabine. The Mando girl made a perfect landing on his boxed loot and made an expert blasting off of one of the crates, but not without wishing him luck first. Yeahh he’ll need a lot of luck if he’s going to outrun these two. The chase leads them through more ‘troopers, through town, and onto the highway. And that in turn attracts a couple of “traffic cop” ‘troopers who start shooting. So now Kanan and Zeb have yet another problem, trying to get the “cops” off their tails while trying to catch up with the kid. And one of those troopers’ blasterfire hits Ezra’s speeder and now he’s trying to keep it under control while accidentally navigating on a one-way highway. Zeb finally has to pull out his electric prod like-what-magnaguards-use thing and give to the traffictrooper the old-fashioned way. And Kanan hands over a nice shiny explosive to the other one. So now, Kanan drops his cargo over to Zeb to focus on getting the last crate from Ezra. Zeb does not entirely approve. Ahhh I love how his ears add to his emotive abilities! Hehe sorry.
So after jumping the divider, Kanan finally gets in front of Ezra and forces the kid to pull over. They have a brief conversation that really doesn’t get either of them anywhere. And Ezra’s gone again! Our young friend clearly sees this whole thing as just two robberies plain and simple, so he’s not making Kanan’s job any easier. Andddd to top it off there’s a TIE fighter and it blows the guy’s speeder to smithereens. Thankfully, Master Jarrus has another ride on the way…
Meanwhiles, Ezra didn’t really make as clean a getaway as he’d hoped; driving out into the fields, a TIE fighter started coming after him. And it squarely hit his speeder and threw him off. That TIE probably would’ve got him too had not a ship taken aim at the TIE first. And on that ship stands Kanan, offering a ride. Considering the fact that a bunch of TIEs are coming up behind, any reluctance Ezra has is pretty much gone. And he makes quite a fantastic jump, all the while keeping a hold on that last crate. And it’s a jump that likely only a Jedi could’ve made. Interesting…
But if Kanan’s even a little impressed, he sorta forgets that as soon as Ezra starts nosing around the lovely expensive weaponry in that crate. And then Zeb starts going off on him and Ezra returns the argument and Kanan has to do a little intervening… anddd then he has to head topside to do some co-piloting, leaving young Bridger in the somewhat capable hands of Zeb and Sabine… yeah I don’t know if that was the best “parenting” there…
So now we finally get to meet Hera and Chopper, who are doing all the flying and naturally trying to avoid getting blown up by them TIEs. Hera’s all “Sooo how’d it go?” and Kanan’s all “It’s been one crazy morning…”. I could very easily see him getting a cup of coffee right now, of course with the Ghost having to manuever like it does, hot coffee in the lap would not be a pleasant addition to get slammed around in the cockpit XD So once he finally gets situated, he explains to Hera exactly what went down, as she continues dodging the Imperials gaining behind.
So it takes Ezra about two seconds to start getting on Zeb’s goat again. And it took about a minute before Zeb threw Ezra into a closet. Hey once you start talking smack about how he smells, you can expect nothing more than getting thrown into something! And by the time Kanan checked in with them… Ezra’s made a little escape from said closet. Zeb’s expression of “aw dang I’m so busted” is absolutely priceless. What they know only shortly after is that our little friend’s in the vents now. But only until he falls through and finds himself in a cockpit with a big ol’ window. And through that window is the gloriousness that is outer space. Ezra’s mind is officially blown. And who wouldn’t be? This moment is seriously amazingly amazing. And then along came the TIE fighters. Ezra’s response is so so so hilarious I could do it no justice redescribing it here πŸ˜† But then Sabine shows up and shoves him out of the seat so she can, you know, fire back at the bad guys. Ezra might’ve had something to say, but thennnn she took her helmet off and it turns out, she’s kinda sorta really pretty, and he’s momentarily at a loss for words. So he picks that moment to throw on the charm… “hey my name’s Ezra, what’s yours?” and Sabine’s all *eyeroll* XD Oh, and then Zeb comes in, not looking too happy, but all the craziness comes to somewhat of a halt as our heroes fry the TIEs and the Ghost heads off into hyperspace. Victory!
Meanwhile, the Empire’s got a lot of cleaning up to do on Lothal. And that’s where Agent Kallus stands assuring Jerk Imperial #2 that their guard’ll be up the next time these renegades show their faces. It’s pretty clear that Kallus likes everything his way and definitely doesn’t like “rebel” sorts. And he has awesome sideburns, but that’s aside the point. Kallus means business, peeps. BUSINESS.
Back to the Ghost crew, Ezra is pretty intent on heading back home, and Hera and the crew intend to take him back home, once their work for the day is done. And today, their work takes them back to Lothal, but not to the in-decent-shape-considering-all-things city that Ezra calls home, but pretty much a dump of a community nicknamed Tarkin Town, where the residents seriously lost everything they had to the Empire. But now here come Zeb, Sabine, and Ezra, bringing crates full of food to the misfortunate people, and we start to see maybe the smallest hint of change in Bridger’s view on things. On the other side of town, Kanan and Hera brought over the crates of weapons to their um… friend, I guess(?), Vizago. The guy is clearly not in the business of being a decent “human being”, but he gets some points for giving them credits for the weapons, and perhaps some dirt on the Empire. Such as the fact that they’ve captured a bunch of Wookiees who are all headed for a life of slavery. Sounds like our rebel friends know their next move.
So Ezra had a lot to think about regarding this very new and unusual perspective called “helping others just to help others”. He was sitting outside the Ghost, just thinking, and then suddenly the Force starts talking to him again. He makes a point to listen and follows it back into the ship. Where it ultimately leads him to Kanan’s quarters. After a bit of lock-picking and nosing around, he happens to find two veryy interesting things… a strange little cube that we know as a holocron (but of course he takes it anyway, not knowing what it is) and a lightsaber. A glorious blue-bladed lightsaber. Such a rare sight in this day and age, and for a street kid like him! And then Kanan came in. Busted. I love his first response to Ezra… “careful, you’ll cut your arm off.” yeah that happens a lot don’t it? And Chopper looks to be laughing his bucket-dome off; either that or he’s questioning the kid’s sanity. Ezra’s all “Well… would it be entirely crazy if I told you that it sorta called me?” and Kanan’s like “Yeah. It’s entirely crazy. Get out.” and thus Ezra gave him back the lightsaber and left the room… still holding the holocron in hand. But clearly Kanan and Hera know more than what they’re letting on…
So Ezra casually walked back to the kitchen (seriously I love that this ship has a kitchen of sorts) where he found Sabine getting a drink, and they started talking. First in finding they have common ground where their whole “following the rules” thing stands, but that turns into a whole conversation as Sabine starts explaining a little of who the five of them are… a small, somewhat mismatched family of a crew, all in some way hurt by the Empire, and all trying to fight for the right thing. She was about to ask for some of Ezra’s backstory, but Zeb dropped in, letting Sabine know that Kanan had called a meeting. And he (perhaps not so) wisely put Chopper in charge of keeping an eye on the boy. But before she left, Sabine finally answered his question from earlier and gave him her name. Ezra gives this slightly goofy smile back and was about to follow her and thennn he rammed right into Chopper XD XD OK I have no clue whether this’ll go anywhere, but I rather adore the prospect of these two together. Just the fact that they’re striking up a real friendship right now is a wonderful thing. Whether or not “Sabezra” is to be the case anytime soon is unknown, but where they stand now gives them a good chance at least πŸ™‚ But in the here and now, Chopper just grumps off at Ezra, either saying “You couldn’tve watched where you were going, could ya?” or “Dude, you know you a guy like you and a girl like her have like zero chance right?” and Ezra just shoots the little droid a look.
So in their “family room” of sorts, Kanan and Hera caught Sabine and Zeb up to speed on the Wookiee situation and start making a plan to rescue them… and then they find Ezra listening in on their discussion in the closet. He tries to duck back in through the vents but this time Zeb yanks him out and dumps him back on the ground. Chopper comes in and he’s all “Before anyone blames me, he snuck through the vents and I’m short, so that’s no one’s fault but yours!”. Zeb’s pretty much done dealing with Ezra’s junk and is all “Can we pleeeease get rid of him now?”. Sabine seemingly took Ezra’s side on this, but well… “No we can’t, he knows too much”. Hera calms the waters, restating that they don’t have time to worry about him, and she decides to take the kid with her to the cockpit to keep an eye on him.
In the cockpit, Ezra comments that he can’t imagine why these guys go around taking on the Empire to help others, but Hera makes her point in the best way possible and kinda shuts up Ezra without having to say much at all. As they come out of hyperspace, they drop by an Imperial station. Naturally they want to know what’s up and Hera pulls of this genius cover story of having captured another Wookiee. Ezra keeps shooting her these looks that say “You can’t be serious! It’s not going to work!”, but it totally does. Hera: 2, Ezra: 0.
And thenn come aboard the Stormtroopers. Who were expecting a Wookiee and got a Lasat instead (well, he would’ve been one if they’d used the older McQuarrie designs, but not the point). Kanan and Sabine play it cool, but I just can’t help but adore Zeb’s complete and utter awkward Wookiee impersonation, and he’s clearly aware of the awkwardness of it all. And then he gives up and slams the two ‘troopers with his fist. Onward our heroes go, but only after the three have left does Hera realize that their communication’s been jammed. And then in came a Star Destroyer. It’s clear to Ezra and Hera pretty quickly that it’s a setup. Hera tells him to follow the three onboard the transport and warn them. And yeahhh Ezra didn’t like that plan so much at first, but Hera knows how to convince. I love how awesomely she makes her point, “if all you do is fight for your own life then your life is worth nothing.” BOOM. She needs to keep at the ship’s controls, and Ezra right now is their only hope. And even though Ezra’s still not too keen on risking his life for people he doesn’t know… he makes a dash after our heroes all the same. That is one of those moments where you can’t help but get up and cheer, as Ezra’s finally starting to make the right choices and understand the weight of what these rebels are doing. Go and save them Ezra! Go!
So Kanan and Zeb were just doing their thing and slapping detanators where they need to go when Ezra comes running in, making Admiral Ackbar proud shouting “IT’S A TRAP!”. And just when things seemed to be going their way…! And then in case you still doubted him, enter in a bunch of Stormtroopers. And the boys make a run for it as Ezra gives the ‘troopers a taste of his laser-slingshot thing. As they continue running, Sabine and Chopper were elsewhere, working on temporarily disabling the artificial gravity, and before long, our heroes are airborne. And thus commences an awesome battle between Kallus and the Stormtroopers and our threesome with laserfire going this way and that! Oh, and then Sabine blanketed the control room with detanators, which will likely be an issue later. But just as all our heroes were out in the clear, Zeb’s frustrated shoving of Ezra sends the kid into the arms of Agent Kallus and his gang. And with no way seemingly to get a good shot at the baddies, Zeb runs off to rejoin the crew, leaving Ezra behind. And this is the part where we all go “NO WAIT! WHAT ARE YOU DOING ZEB?!”.
The Ghost was off on its way with almost everyone on board, leaving the Imperials with a nice “goodbye” explosion, courtesy of Sabine. And Zeb is clearly feeling the weight of his split-second decision. I love how they were able to make us both partially mad at Zeb, but also made us hurt for him, knowing he really felt bad about leaving Ezra. By the time their all situated in the cockpit again, the crew starts to realize that someone’s missing. And our Lasat friend knows who. I love that Hera really and truly embraces her “mom” position in all of this and shouts out his full name… yup Zeb’s in trouble.
Meanwhile, Ezra was in the Imperial slammer. Funnn. And getting a talk from Agent Kallus himself. Ezra doesn’t make it easy on the guy, though, firing off a little snark where he can. Kallus tells him that they’re using Ezra as bait for the rebels. Young Bridger just shrugs, believing that the crew wouldn’t waste their time coming back for him. But Kallus…? Eh, who knows what he thinks. He’s not exactly an open book. He just struts out of that cell without another word and tells the ‘troopers to search him. And after all of that, the only thing Ezra still has is that weird little cube knickknack. Whilst questioning why he ever tried to help them, he pitches the holocron across the cell. In a moment of quiet though, Ezra finally just follows along with the Force. And like so many things, it’s not what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside that counts as that box proves to be more than what it seems… kinda like a familiar lamp (OK sorry no more Aladdin references). Because it’s, of course, a holocron, and in that is a recorded message from the one and only Obi-Wan Kenobi! The message he sent out to all the Jedi who survived Order 66 at the end of Episode III! Whoaaa!
Back on the Ghost, it looks like Hera is determined to head back to save their new friend. Zeb isn’t thrilled on the prospect whatsoever. Sabine knows that the Empire would be expecting them and doesn’t think it’s the safest move. But Chopper’s with Hera on the whole “saving Ezra” thing (or so Hera says…), and well, Kanan doesn’t have a lot of choice on the matter, I don’t think… Hera kinda wears the pants in the family πŸ™‚
“Wait until my uncle the Emperor finds out that you’ve been holding me against my will! He won’t go easy on you!” Bwahahaha I’m sorry that’s the best ever XD But all that ranting Ezra was doing was actually a kickstarter for a clever escape. The ‘troopers come in, Bridger goes out, and the ‘troopers get locked in. Nicely done, Ezra! Nicely done. While he’s out there, retrieving his pack and stuff, he also borrows a spare ‘trooper helmet, and while it’s on, he hears a little more dish as he now knows exactly where the Imperials are picking up their Wookiees, as well as where they’ll be dropped off — the spice mines of Kessel. But then things get kinda crazy… one ‘trooper tells Kallus that Ezra escaped, Kallus doesn’t let him clarify that the kid escaped on his own and assumes the rebels came back, Ezra hears this and thinks that the crew did come back… well, good thing they actually are coming. Just a question of when. In the meantime, Ezra puts his voice-acting skills to use and uses the helmet to throw in some last-second thoughts on the situation, so maybe they’re won’t be quite as many Stormtroopers at the door when our heroes arrive.
Anddd it doesn’t take long for our heroes to arrive. Kanan, Zeb, and Sabine make a dash into to hangar, and suddenly there’s Ezra, making an exit from the vents, and wearing his helmet. And then Zeb socks a good one on him. He says it was because he couldn’t be sure it was him because of the helmet, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was just all that bottled-up frustration with the kid. I mean, how many ‘troopers wear an old orange flightsuit?? Either way, good thing Ezra was wearing that “bucket”. Yikes does Zeb have a couple of fists on him! And then along came the Stormtroopers and Kallus once again. Our heroes make a dash for the ship, laserfire blazing left and right, and make it aboard just in time. Oh, and Sabine left them another surprise… a nice painting of what will be the icon of the Rebel Alliance on the floor of the hangar… painted with explosive paint. Yup now that is one of the coolest weapons I’ve ever seen πŸ˜€ Kallus lived, but he was none too happy.
So now cruising along through hyperspace, Ezra gives an awkward “thank you” to Hera for coming back. Hera’s making a point to take Ezra home to his family, but then he makes mention that he doesn’t have one. And Hera’s expression is just the most compassionate and caring at that moment, I could just cry, man… you can tell beyond a shadow of a doubt that her heart goes out to this kid. But then the rest of the crew gets situated in the cockpit and the moment’s kinda over. Ezra decides to tell them what heard about the Wookiees, and knowing what they know about Kessel, and what would happen to those Wookiees on Kessel, they have no time to lose. And Ezra is quite fine with joining along for the ride this time πŸ™‚
So the next thing we know, we’re seeing a bunch of really sad Wookiees, and there are few things sadder than a bunch of really sad Wookiees. They’re just trying to do their good thing and now they’re headed off to the worst place everr. AND THERE’S A LITTLE ONE! AND HIS DAD! Ohhh good night, if your heart doesn’t hurt for these guys at least a little bit you can’t possibly have a heart. And then from above comes the Ghost! Hurray! So while the crew is exchanging laserfire with the Stormtroopers, Ezra sneaks off to go and help free the furry fellows. And once the “walking carpets” have their cuffs off, they start doing a little old-fashioned Stormtrooper bashing as well! But just when you think they’ve saved the day, enter the TIEs, working on blasting the Ghost. Hera sends Chopper to the guns to make quick work of the baddies, but only one goes down before enters in another, bigger Imperial ship, in which are our friend Kallus and his ‘trooper buddies. Yeesh the guy just doesn’t give up! And in the midst of the mess, the little Wookiee is still cuffed and is trying to best he can to keep out of harm’s way. His Dad goes after him, but only to be met by Stormtrooper blasters and is wounded. Zeb comes out to help him, but the little one’s now caught the attention of one of the ‘troopers. And in the midst of it, Ezra knows he’s got to do something. But at the moment things are continually getting crazier… our heroes are surrounded by bad guys and Hera can’t get to them safely. So Kanan has to do what he has to do… he does the incredibly awesome thing of walking right up to those ‘troopers and pulling out… oh yes… his LIGHTSABER. Ezra’s knocked for a loop, the Wookiees are in awe, even the Stormtroopers are like “Whoa that dude has a lightsaber! What the heck!”. Kallus is a bit unsure of his next move at first; I mean, yeah, he’s probably never even seen a real Jedi before this! Or maybe he has but either way, he just points the way for his gang to shoot. And naturally Kanan’s lightsaber does what it do as it deflects just about everything the Imperials throw at them πŸ™‚ Zeb leads the rest of them and the Wookiees into the containment thing that Hera will pick them up in, and that’s where Ezra’s attention comes back to the little Wookiee, whose father is reluctant to leave behind. And now Ezra has to do what he has to do. Now Zeb is more than a little frustrated with this new dent in the plan, as he watches the kid run off after the Stormtrooper in pursuit of the little one. But Ezra does pretty darn awesome as he does an epic probably-Force-aided jump in front of the ‘trooper and takes aim with his slingshot, which quickly sends the unfortunate buckethead off the side of the bridge. But just as Ezra starts working to get the cuffs off of his little friend, along comes Agent Kallus. Kallus knows he’s got this. He just sorta takes a moment to talk some smack and then comments briefly on Ezra seemingly being a padawan. Ezra’s like “Psh no of course not!” and that’s when the Ghost showed up, with Kanan standing tall atop it, lightsaber unsheathed! And thus a well-aimed deflected laserblast hits Kallus on the shoulder and knocks him clean off the bridge. With that, off go our heroes and the Wookiees! Not before, of course, Kallus, still hanging on to the side of the bridge, gives them a dirty look. And then the ‘trooper from earlier still hanging below innocently asks “First Jedi you’ve ever seen, sir?” and Kallus slams his boot into the Stormtrooper’s head XD The perfect capper for this whole crazy battle, I’d say!
Aboard the ship, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house when the Dad Wookiee reunited with his little one. Wookiee hugs are some of the best hugs :3 And it was all because of this diamond-in-the-rough street rat (andd there I go again with the Aladdin refs), who chose to do something entirely selfless in a moment of great peril. But now that their mission is over… Ezra’s going home, right? Just like they planned? Nobody seems thrilled about the prospect. Though Ezra does still managed to snatch Kanan’s lightsaber… again…
It’s sort of an awkward departure for everyone. D’aww Chopper’s actually waving goodbye! Zeb tries to lighten the mood, but doesn’t really pull it off the way he’d hoped. Ezra does give Kanan back his holocron before giving his final farewell. But that turns out to be a bigger deal than any one of them would’ve thought — Kanan takes one look and sees that this holocron… was opened. And as we TCW veterans know, only Jedi can do that πŸ™‚
Ezra had finally gotten home into his control tower and was about to shelve his new lightsaber with the rest of his doodads, and then, just like that, Kanan shows up behind him. Filling the kid in on his quiet ponderings of the Force. Ezra now has a choice — to stay here and let the lightsaber gather dust, or join the Ghost crew and learn how to use that lightsaber, and learn what it means to be a Jedi.
Ezra made the right decision.
We close out on the words spoken fourteen years ago by Master Kenobi, as he encourages all the remaining Jedi to trust in the Force, and be ready to take on all the challenges they’re to be faced with. You can just hear in those words spoken the weight that must’ve been on Obi-Wan’s shoulders… I mean, he was putting this out just after he lost tons of good friends, his way of life, and his best friend/old padawan on top of that! But here he stands, even though only a virtual image, carrying on this small ounce of hope to all who hear him. And now, that small ounce of hope is being carried through two young Jedi who both have a lot to learn, and through their four amazing friends in the Ghost crew.
And thus begins a new, glorious chapter in the SW universe.
Oh yeah, and not to alarm you, but Agent Kallus happened to have let The Inquisitor know that he’d found a Jedi or two and so… yeah… that could be a problem later… o.o
So WOW what an episode! What an amazing show! What an amazing way to start this incredible series! And not a bad blog post overall, even if it did take me like four hours to do. So looks like I’ll be catching up with you guys again in a week to talk about the next episode! See ya then, fellow Rebels!

10 Reasons I’m Hyped For Rebels!

So here we are… only a month now stands between us Star Wars fans and the premiere of Star Wars Rebels! A mere twenty-nine days, but ohh what an eternity that feels like to us all! So, to hopefully pass the time until then, I’ve decided to compile together some of the reasons I’m most excited for this already clearly-amazing show! And for the record, this isn’t the “top ten”, so they’re in no order in particular πŸ™‚
NOTE: Contains minor spoilers from the Rebels trailers and clips that have already been released.

1. These Guys!

It’s tempting to go and fangirl over Kanan, Ezra, Hera, Sabine, Zeb, and Chopper all over again, but I already wrote a blog on my thoughts on the crew! But I can say that I love these guys even more than I did when I wrote that post… each one of them is so amazing, so real, so fun, so relatable! I can say with great certainty that I will love joining them for the long haul in this series πŸ™‚

2. That Original Trilogy Vibe

Now, I love both trilogies equally, but it does definitely feel really awesome to be in this era for the first time in so so long! After a lot of time spent these last few years in the Prequel era (which were seriously awesome too), it’s hugely exciting to be coming into a new time and place in the SW Universe! And not only that, the McQuarrie-an style, the bond between a specific group of characters, the Imperial threat… it’s very classic SW-feeling and I can’t get enough of it! Like say, no negativity towards the Prequels/TCW, it’s just that the Originals were where it all began, and while, yeah, this happens before then, the vibe is still there, and it feel so goooooood.

3. Da Baddies

I haven’t had much time to give The Inquisitor and Agent Kallus the love they deserve, so now I shall spazz about them for a bit! These guys are so so intense… I mean, Kallus is already like dead-on serious (and has awesome sideburns), but then The ‘Quiz is that seriousness SQUARED. I mean, one of the things that make these two so great is that they’re not even that high up on the Imperial food chain and they still take their jobs as serious as their Sith bosses! And they are appropriately frightening and malicious, while still having a villainous sort of appeal that makes them two of the coolest Utapauans/humans in the known galaxy! Their voices, the way they carry themselves, their skill, their determination… for baddies, they’re pretty darn awesome! And perhaps the best thing is that these guys are real legit threats, which I know is totally the norm in the SW Universe, but it’s still an awesome thing to see in any animated series! Just knowing that one of these dudes could truly end the lives of our heroes is both terrifying, but necessary to amp up the intensity and keep me on the edge of my seat, audibly gasping at the near-misses and crying buckets when the bad guys have their occasional moment of glory, and then cheering and crying happy tears when our heroes still continue to fight for what’s right no matter what.

4. Familiar Faces

It’s felt so so good to get to know a whole slew of newbies, and I was perfectly happy just getting these guys at the helm of the Ghost. But then they made my head explode and had the Obi-Wan Kenobi show up for a bit! And let me say he looks awesome in this style… definitely makes you do a double-take when you realize how unique the style of Rebels is from TCW! And on top of that, it looks like we’ll get to hang out with Threepio and Artoo at some point! Which is like, also head-exploding worthy as well (it’ll blow up twice if we run into any familiar Droids faces while we’re there!). And even the great and awesome Luminara Unduli! And who knows who else might drop by down the road? It sure feels good to see these familiar friends once more!

5. The Laughs

A little levity is always essential to the SW Universe, no matter how crazy things get, and the footage from Rebels continues to prove that. Just watching the “The Machine In The Ghost” short sets off my funny bone! Seriously, the timing and irony couldn’t be more perfect! The Ghost crew has their off days and arguments sometime, and when that happens, there’s not a doubt in my mind that a lot of these situations will leave us laughing! Perhaps especially where Chopper is concerned πŸ™‚ Quips, wit, and sarcasm are all part of the SW Galaxy, and Rebels clearly had no problem keeping that a part of the series!

6. This…?
Rebels Screencap 05

Another thing that’s a common sight in SW would be romance ❀ I've heard tell that Kanan and Hera might be a thing, though I kinda doubted until I saw this. Maybe it’s nothing, orrrr maybe it’s something! And if you’ve seen the Disney Channel ad, you know that Ezra and Sabine miiiight have something (at least as far as Ezra’s concerned πŸ˜† ) Who knows, really? I suppose we can only wait and see what happens down the road, but if there's one thing that I've learned from watching a whole lot of SW it's that you never know what will happen or how it'll happen or when it'll happen or who it'll happen to. So likely story, I'll likely have a couple of someones I can squee over before the series ends :3

7. DAT ANIMATION!
Rebels Screencap 07
Seriously, it’s so so gorgeous I can’t watch anything, trailer or clip or whatever, and not gush on all the work that went into it. Especially the character animation. I know that the TCW’s animation was gorgeous too, but daaaAaaAaaaAnggg I don’t know exactly what they did here but it is some kinda mind-blowingly epic!

8. The Heart

You can’t not have heart in SW, it’s just a fact. I get all the feels just watching the trailer, man. While yes, their being like family probably makes for some humorous debacles, but most likely their being like family is going to lead to tearjerking, heartstring-tugging moments through-and-through. On top of that, you have a band of mismatched heroes who just want to do the right thing and fight for what’s right, which automatically equals tears, both happy or otherwise. Plus there’s the nostalgia tears that I get in general. Aww man I can only predict the awesomeness that will happen but I know it will be awesome and I will be hit with a brickload of feels for the next five years or so…

9. This:
Star Wars Rebels Screencap 09
OK, so this isn’t as deep as the others. I just love SW-y action. And explosions. Them too. Oh, and space battles.

10. The FANDOM!!
Funny Rebels Gif
I can write Closer Looks posts on the episodes, make gifs like this, draw fanart, buy action figures… being knee-deep in the Rebels fandom will be EPIC!

And that’s just ten reasons! Only ten! There are clearly way more, though… just can’t figure out how to categorize them all! So hopefully the wait will zip right by at lightspeed and before we know it, we’ll finally get to join Kanan and Ezra and the gang in a new era of Star Wars awesome!

Until then,
Keep The Peace,
