The Celebration Orlando 2017 Post!

First of all, I apologize for not having finished my SWR season recap post this past week like I said I would. Stuff came up. But right now, the biggest, most important thing to talk about is CELEBRATION! A time of year I look forward to as much as Christmas and my own birthday! There’s so much awesome stuff to talk about, so I’ll update this with every exciting panel I see so I can share my fangirling with all of you!
NOTE: There will be spoilers depending on the panel I’m discussing.

40 YEARS OF STAR WARS
They kicked this thing off with a bang that would rival the destruction of the two Death Stars and Starkiller base combined! Every time I turned around they brought out a guest worth screaming about! To see the master himself, George Lucas, there… oh my gosh I screamed so loud. And then followed that up each time afterward. This was a hugely special panel for so many reasons. One for me was that, I honestly haven’t watched many of the bonus features (don’t always have the time sigh), and I hadn’t seen a number of the actors and filmmakers interviewed before this. It was a marvelous first time! I’m not gonna lie I cried a lot too. That opening video hit me like a boulder-dozer of feels! And oh that dedication to Carrie Fisher… and then the awe-inspiring surprise John Williams performance! Every minute was precious and stunning and wonderful I absolutely can’t! I can only imagine where Celebration goes from here!

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Ian McDiarmid always looks so young to me. He’s just amazing.
– Hayden Christiansen still is so much Anakin it’s incredible. I’ve missed seeing his face around here something awful!
– On that note, I was so glad to hear briefly from Qui-Gon and Mace! Er… Liam Neeson and Samuel L. Jackson, I mean. To know they still remember and value their time spent in the films and appreciate the fans is utterly heart-warming.
– Also, something about the image of a darksider Jar Jar Binks is actually really epic.
– Hearing the stories of how George and the original cast met was an absolute treat in every way possible.
– Mark Hamill’s original audition video is incredible. HIS ACTING, YOU GUYS. IT’S SUBLIME. EVEN WAY BACK WHEN ON AN AUDITION TAPE.
– Somehow I’d forgotten how tall Peter Mayhew was and now I doubt I’ll ever forget.
– I adore Anthony Daniels. I know that’s a no-brainer but, again, seeing these actors outside of the films and hearing them tell their stories of making them… it’s… words can barely describe.
– Also first time seeing Billy Dee Williams interviewed I think ever. He’s still the smoothest! πŸ˜€
– When the Harrison Ford showed up… I think everything in me exploded. I had no idea he’d never been to a Celebration prior, so that made it all the more special.
– His seamless Indiana Jones drop cracked me up. HE IS SUCH A DELIGHT OMG!
– Safe to say Carrie’s daughter has one of the best dresses ever. Her speech was beautiful.
– Like I said before, the dedication video was so moving and so special… when they started showing all the little girls in Leia costumes I think I really started weeping. In a good way though.
– And again, a standing ovation almost doesn’t seem good enough for John Williams. If I could fly or hover and applaud, I would. Same for the spectacular work done by the orchestra! Like wow! Made me want to go and buy all the soundtracks I haven’t yet bought right now.
– I clapped ’til my hands were numb, man. But that’s normal πŸ™‚

SIDESTORY: FORCES OF DESTINY ANNOUNCEMENT
Just read the article on the new Forces Of Destiny microseries and product line and I’m excited. New animated shorts starring the bossladies of the Star Wars galaxy! How great is that?! I love the character designs and style, and since they’re all canon, it’s useless to resist! It’s really nice seeing them trying a line specifically aimed at girls. Star Wars has never been short on awesome female characters, and certainly never short on female fans (such as myself), and it’s not that it was a need, by any means (I’m always going to be mainly a 3.75 collector myself), but just imagine how many young girls might be further drawn into the saga on part of these new stories and merch? These princesses, Jedi, and rebels are about to draw in a whole new generation to the fangirl side of the Force, and that’s something to get excited about! πŸ˜€

DAVE FILONI: ANIMATED ORIGINS AND UNEXPECTED FATES
You know me, I could never turn down an opportunity to hang with Dave and Pablo! I absolutely loved digging into the origins of so many great characters and stories that we’ve seen told this last near-decade. I’m gonna be honest I was only able to watch this via livestream and was disgusted I couldn’t see the beautiful art and storyreel footage. But even so, it was nothing short of a fantastic panel with two of my favorite filmmakers. Bro I could listen to their stories for days. And naturally, this all got me really hyped for what we’re going to see Saturday…

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Those Clones and Rebel cosplayers that came up early on? They were astounding. The Hondo was so perfect it was like he was real. The young Rex and S3 Ezra were perfect too. Like wow man. Much applause.
– I love that Ahsoka was almost Ashla! Who’da thunk? Just a neat little connection.
– I’m ecstatic to hear Wolffe and Gregor might be back! Also the Nine Old Men thing warmed my little heart. I would’ve loved to have seen that :3
– These stories are literally so amazing. We almost had Savage and Satine in Rebels! I understand why they didn’t go that route ultimately, but wow what an image! I’ll never watch the opening of Twin Suns again without seeing that in my mind’s eye.
– I about cried at my inability to see the images everyone was fangasming over tho…
– Hehe everyone going Kanera-crazy cracked me up. But also yeah that sounds like an utterly beautiful scene. The idea Kanan, Hera, and Zeb were all processing the kids growing up and leaving home… such family feels!
– Though I couldn’t see the Bane-Boba showdown, it sounded beyond epic. Corey Burton and Daniel Logan are just incredible, and the whole prospect just made me ravenous for more on their characters’ stories.
– ALSOOO the fact that Durge almost made it into TCW is epic. I almost forgot to mention that.

IAN MCDIARMID: TALES FROM THE DARK SIDE
So Mr. McDiarmid was wonderful, that’s an understatement. Again, I haven’t seen a lot of interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff with him, so everything about this was a fantastic new experience. Definitely gained a lot lot more respect for the Senator/Chancellor/Emperor/Darth and Ian’s stellar acting skills. Watching the scene between Anakin and Palpatine at the opera (or as I nicknamed it, the fish ballet) again left me kind of breathless at the perfection of his performance (and Hayden’s too!). Also have to say I love listening to Ian not only because of the fascinating stories he was telling, but also because his voice is amazing. So smooth and so well-spoken and articulate! Which is why it was spectacular and spine-chilling to hear him do that Emperor laugh! An absolute blast of a panel all around! It’s tempting to drop everything right now and watch Episode III again, but the day’s not over…!

RAY PARK: PREPARE TO BE MAULED
Once again, Ray Park proves to be one of the greatest human beings to ever live. His stunts and sweet moves never fail to leave me in awe, and he’s every bit as much a nice guy as Maul is a bad guy πŸ˜€ He and Warwick made this panel nothing short of an absolute blast. I loved hearing his stories from working on set (and making lightsaber noises with Mr. Neeson and Mr. McGregor!), watching him performing stunts like an absolute blazing tornado of energy, teaching lightsaber techniques to the fans… oh and I smiled so hard when he mentioned he was a huge Toy Story fan! He’s seriously just so so great. After seeing him at last year’s Celebration I’ve learned his panels are ones you should never miss.

THE LAST JEDI
OMG THIS PANEL WAS EVERYTHING AND MORE. Josh Gad was a brilliant host, Rian Johnson clearly’s a brilliant director, and there’s so so much to get hyped about! And that TEASER! It left me reeling in the best way. It’s a long way to Alderaan, and by “Alderaan” I mean December, but this helped just the slightest bit with the wait πŸ™‚ Allow me to elaborate further in my assorted fangirl musings:

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Josh Gad is just like us and I love that.
– Like say, so much love for Mr. Johnson, and Ms. Kennedy too!
– OK so y’know I didn’t get to see The Force Awakens panel two years ago, so this is some of the first BTS stuff I’ve seen with Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. And now I love them more than ever, and I didn’t think it was possible for me to love them more!
– I’m amazed Daisy could keep a straight face with Josh asking her questions like that. Nahhh Rey’s parents are probably just an average Joe and Jane, right…? XP
– John is promising more Finn and Poe adventures! Sounds good to me! *Imagines Finn and Poe in “The Boys Are Back” number in High School Musical 3* XD
– BB-8 IS HERE AND HE’S REAL! OK I already knew that they’ve got a functioning BB out there, but just seeing him here… it’s incredible. I’m amazed he was not utterly mobbed by hugging fans! I loved watching him get snippy with Josh. That was just perfect!
– Kelly Marie Tran is just a delight you guys. I absolutely can’t wait to meet Rose now!
– MARK HAMILL AGAIN! He’s still so fantastic and his stories are some of the best ever. Hearing him talk about visiting kids in hospitals and making a difference for them made me tear up.
– WOW THAT POSTER! It’s so dynamic and kind of retro and full of fantastic symbolism! I could look at it forever.
– AND THE TEASER. “Breathe… just breathe” NO I CAN’T BREATHE, LUKE!! THIS IS TOO AMAZING!!
– I won’t elaborate on it too long (I’ll save that analyzing for the next trailer), but a few pressing things on my mind…
– A) Luke and Rey seem to be all #MasterAndApprenticeGoals even if Daisy hinted her first meeting with Master Skywalker will be a little… different…
– B) Meanwhile, Poe and BB-8 are all #FriendshipGoals
– C) EVERYTHANG IS SO BEAUTIFUL OMGOODNESSGRACIOUS!
– D) Huh I thought Kylo lost that lightsaber in the fight on Starkiller Base. Did he have to build a new one (which must be hard since it’s a pretty ancient model) or did he just have an extra in his sock drawer?
– E) Biggest thing of all: “It’s time for the Jedi… to end…” WHAT.
– WAHT.
– WHAT DOES IT MEAN….?!
– Is he talking about the Jedi as a group needing to end, so they can be something different, something more? Or is he just kinda blue and done with the Force right now? I’m going with the first option for now, but you can bet this line will consume me from the inside out until one December weekend…
AHHHHHH I LOVE STAR WARS SO MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

HEROINES OF STAR WARS
So having Ahsoka, Sabine, and Rey in the same room was amazing, and with Dave, too! They kicked off the panel with the best video montage of the many many bossladies in the Star Wars galaxy and made me cry a little just with that. It was really cool just hearing their stories as well as their perspective on the depiction of strong female characters. I could honestly go on a while on the topic myself, but for now I’ll just say once again that I’m super pumped for Forces Of Destiny and for all the bossladyness that awaits us in the future of SW (like Rose!). Also two other notes: a) I seriously love the FoD Ahsoka doll and I might have to get that even though my main collecting focus is on the 3.75s. And then b) I cracked up at the original game plan for Out Of Darkness with Hera and Sabine talking about the boys XD Pff that would’ve been kinda terrible if we’d missed out on the emotional journey that episode centered around. Not that I’m adverse to future conversations tho… *COUGHKaneraCOUGHSabezraCOUGH* But yeah! Who runs the galaxy? Star Wars girls! They’re the reason I started throwing around the term “bosslady”! πŸ™‚

MARK HAMILL’S TRIBUTE TO CARRIE FISHER
I’m not sure I can say anything that hasn’t already been said… it was equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming. Mark is so so good, so articulate, and poured out his heart so well on this. Like say, prior to this, I haven’t taken the time to watch the featurettes and interviews that would help me know the amazing people behind these characters more, and the time spent listening to Mr. Hamill, Mr. Davis, and old interview pieces from Carrie… they were really something special. I’d always sort of known that Carrie was a firecracker, but I had no idea just how much until now. You know, as I write this, I was listening to my TCW soundtrack and the track I ended up on right now was #11, “Death Of A Master”. It obviously wasn’t written for her, but this gripping, powerful piece of music really suits my emotional state. And she was a master, you know? Not of the Force, but of brilliant acting and a stellar sense of humor. She’s a princess, a senator, a general, and also an absolute master. That’s all I got man the feels are really feelsy right now…

STAR WARS REBELS
OK WOW. I HAVE NO WORDS. WHICH IS REALLY BAD SINCE I’M WRITING A BLOG. I’M UTTERLY SOBBING AND CAN’T STOP APPLAUDING YOU GUYS.
It breaks my heart kinda to know this will be the last season, but I have complete confidence they’ll end it right. And whatever they have in store next will be fantastic. I didn’t need the trailer for proof, but it certainly was great to see regardless. Yeah this won’t make it hard for me to focus on that Season 3 recap post later! πŸ˜› I adored seeing all the cast and Filoni together again, and knowing we’re coming up on the end makes it all the more a precious moment. They’re a beautiful family… both the Ghost crew and the people behind them.

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Dave talking about Obi-Wan and Maul gave me such feels again.
– Freddie Prinze Jr. utterly killed it in his thoughts on Kanan and Ezra. So brilliantly said!
– “Hot Kallus”?? That was a thing?! Pfff that cracked me up. He’s always been a pretty good-lookin’ dude! why’s the internet just noticing now? XD He’s looking even better than ever in the trailer, though, and I can’t wait to see him full-on Rebellin’! Also I hope we get an entire episode dedicated to watching Ezra, Zeb, and Kallus play video games like the bros they are jk.
– Also you guys how great is it that Warwick Davis is gonna be in this season?! The guy’s such a marvelous talent and a has a fantastic voice, I’m so so glad he’s getting in animated Star Wars already! And playing such a delightfully creepy character to boot!
– More Mandos yaaaaaas!
– Speaking of, that girl cosplaying as Ursa Wren was amazing. I mean… that episode came out only a few months ago! How did she do it??
– Also mad props to the Gregor cosplay, too. I love seeing people who don’t just want to don the armor suits, but become that character even without the helmet on πŸ™‚
– Like say that trailer… on the second viewing I buried my hands in my face and wept. Vanessa Marshall’s narration… my gosh. It sets the stage so perfectly and just overwhelms me with emotions and nostalgia.
– Glad to know that we’re going to see the giant wolves I spotted in the artwork on An Inside Man.
– OK it’s so tempting right now to do a complete recap of the trailer but I don’t think I’ve got the right words to say yet. I will say a few words tho:
– A) WOW WE’RE BACK ON LOTHAL YES! I’ve been all giddy about seeing Yavin but so much of the action we’ve seen is on the world where it all began. NO I’M NOT CRYING YOU ARE.
– B) KANERA. THAT IS ALL. I GOT IT OUT OF MY SYSTEM. NO I HAVEN’T I’M CRYING HARDER NOW.
– C) Sorry I shouldn’t be writing every thought in all caps, but WAIT WAIT WAIT IS THAT BO-KATAN OR AM I COMPLETELY MISTAKEN?
– D) Final note I CAN’T WAIT FOR EVERYTHING OMG.

SMUGGLER’S REVENGE
This was definitely one of the most anticipated panels for me. I didn’t see (or hear, rather) the first one, but I adored the second one, so I was absolutely hyped to experience another one of Kyle Newman’s glorious Star Wars audio stories! The writing is stellar and so perfectly Star Wars, the acting beyond sublime, the sounds well-timed, and oh my gosh Han and Leia banter for days! It’s funny, I kept trying to close my eyes and just listen to the performance, but David Collins and Catherine Taber were so fun to watch as well as listen to! The acting is just so wow in all ways. Everyone just did so so incredibly. David is a perfect Han, and I had no idea Tom Kane was such a masterful C-3PO! I highly look forward to whatever Mr. Newman might be planning in the future! Final thought: MATTHEW WOOD’S WILLHEM SCREAM WAS THE BEST XD

Honestly you guys there are just too many amazing things to mention, it was just an incredibly bountifully joyful weekend of Star Wars. The fandom feels are running through me like electricity right now! It’s an absolute rush! I know I’ll be counting the days ’til next year πŸ˜€

Rebel Transmissions: The Antilles Extraction

Ah I adore all the Star Wars wonderful going ’round today! And I hope to continue that with this week’s Rebels commentary. Let’s head back a little before a few certain someones stole the Death Star plans and revisit the original “rogues” in The Antilles Extraction!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Rebels episodes Breaking Ranks, Out Of Darkness, The Honorable Ones, Twilight Of The Apprentice, and The Antilles Extraction.

Our story begins with an absolutely gutwrenching dogfight right outta the gate. It’s exciting yes, but no doubt it’s gutwrenching. The Imps take down an entire Rebel escort and every pilot they’ve got… all because they were providing aid to people in need. Ugh that is so so wrong. The TIE pilot’s snarky comment reminded me there’s a person behind that helmet. What did the Empire do to make that man lose his sense of humanity? What would drive a man to unapologetically fire at an unarmed vessel? The Empire is messed-up, you can see that in even this small moment. Somehow it’s not surprising a few someones want out of that career choice. Which is the dirt our new Fulcrum has dug up for the mini-Alliance. Sadly no it’s not Ahsoka (We totes getcha Ez), but I do like our new Fulcrum already. Because after about three seconds hearing his voice I exclaimed “SHUT UP. IT’S KALLUS!!!” Ahsoka’s voice had been a little more garbled, a little less obvious, and at the time, it didn’t even cross my mind it could be her. It took a few episodes for me to figure it out, and it still surprised me in the end. But Kallus… he’s been doing some thinking, I’ll wager. And his voice is lot more obvious. I was just happy as happy could be to know that, deep deep deep down, the commanding sideburns isn’t the jerk I’d been calling him since the pilot πŸ˜€ I was so excited to hear his voice I almost missed what he was talking about — three Imperial pilots who’re ready to jet on outta there. The Rebs get to help people and get a few new pilots to their steadily-declining fleet! Win-win! The mission’s already set up: Sabine will go undercover at the Imperial academy and help ’em escape. Ezra has some concerns about this, but while he’s played the part before, she was an academy student for reals. And you just can’t argue with “for reals”. All she needs are some fake credentials and some new hair dye and she’s good to go! Yeahhh ordinary hair colors just don’t work for her, do they? The bright highlights and most recently, her full-on purple ombre ‘do, are a part of who she is. I could see her working for the Resistance and still be rockin’ color in her hair! So yeah it was a little weird to get used to even for just this one episode. Anyway…
So how’s about that Skystrike Academy? I love that name bro. With a moniker like that I can see why it’d be easy to join up and fly for the Empire without reading the fine print. Good thing people like Sabine– er, “Rea”, are here to help. While the Academy’s got some cool stuff going for it, it’s still cursed with the uncoolness of its unsupportive Imps-in-charge and overall lack of humanity. We see that first-hand as “Rea” and her wingman Wedge take on a slew of Y-wings in a training simulation. They really did a great job with this scene ’cause while you assume that this is all training and no one’s killing anyone, the training tech is so impressive it demands us to believe otherwise. So when Sabine and Wedge came upon a disabled, helpless Rebel ship and are ordered to destroy it… man that’s not cool. Even Sabine knows this isn’t what the Imperial rules state, but bossman don’t care, he wants blasting done. And then oh look here comes the virtual Ghost and there go Sabine and Wedge’s TIEs. Wow the Rebs certainly made a name for themselves if they’ve worked their way into simulations. Sabine’s all “dude what the heck??” but that’s just the way these Academy teachers play the game… by making sure they always win. Anyone who doesn’t always win ain’t worth their time. Who needs humanity when you can be a winner? That might be what the Imps think, but clearly, Sabine and this Wedge guy share a different opinion. OK so I need to talk about Wedge obviously. Seeing him in SWR is super-special to me, because three years ago, when the series was first announced, I wrote this: “I’ve always myself wondered how the Rebellion came to be, and I’d hope to be introduced to some of these brave Rebels. I admit that I sadly overlook the Rebels sometimes as compared to the Jedi. As in, I know more about Kit Fisto than I do Wedge Antilles. That’s got to change, I know. Well, what better place to get to know them than this new show?” (From Clones To Rebels, 5/21/13) I had assumed the show might surround characters we already knew, but once I came to meet the wonderful Ghost crew, I couldn’t imagine anyone else in the lead. So it’s fantastic to see we’re actually getting to know more about Wedge Antilles, just like I’d hoped for way back when πŸ™‚ Also I’m just glad I get to see him more and learn more about him and I love him to death now X3
Returning to the episode, it seems Governor Pryce and Agent Kallus dropped by, and that’s never good. Well, mostly it’s a problem when Pryce drops by, Kallus I’m cool with now. I couldn’t help but quite wonder what’s going through his head. He walks and talks with the same confidence he did a season ago, but he’s not the same guy he was a season ago. He’s a Fulcrum. Personally I’d be really paranoid and freaked out if I were in his shoes, but he’s keeping cool really really well. Though you can tell he got his feathers a little ruffled at Pryce’s snide remark about “teaching him something”. Brooo he should’ve just left the Empire on account of her crud alone.
It seems Sabine’s mission is going well though, she spies Wedge, along with two others, and it looks like they’re all trying to figure out an escape. Methinks she’s found the mini-Alliance’s newest pilots. In striking up a conversation with her wingman, we find that indeed Wedge is good and ready to get out. When he went from cargo ships to TIEs he figured out quickly the Empire he was serving wasn’t worth serving. That’s when Sabine reveals her true identity and her true mission. Now if someone can come up with a plan, we can chalk it up a win for the mini-Alliance…
Safe to say Ezra’s not enjoying any of this. All he and Kanan and Chopper can do is wait, and he might be a little worried about her. Like a lot. Kanan advises his padawan to accept he can’t control what happens, and also to trust Sabine. Kinda funny seeing Kanan now an expert on the topic, as he himself was once in this situation when Ezra was undercover. For different reasons, yes, as this is more of an Anakin-and-Padme thing than a master-and-apprentice thing, but still, what a reminder… Master Jarrus has definitely done some growin’ up himself. Granted don’t know if Ez will take that advice 100% 100% to heart right now, but that doesn’t make Kanan’s advice-giving skills any less cool. Yes learning to let go is a tough lesson, but I’m hoping that maybe Ez will learn it better than Anakin did.
So Sabine’s newly-formed plan is in motion. They’re going out for a real-space simulated dogfight and all Sabine and Wedge and his crew have to do is casually fly on over to the Rebel freighter and lightspeed off. Easy breezy! But Pryce had other ideas. The instant those four test TIEs rebelled, she popped their sidepanels off, leaving them exposed, aimless little pods ready for the pickin’. Poor Rake… he seemed like a cool guy. I’m sorry we didn’t get to know him well. Also wow Kallus is so good at keeping his cool right now ’cause I know I wouldn’t look so chill. With TIEs on all sides, Ezra and Kanan have no choice but to head into hyperspace, a choice Ezra clearly hated to make. So now Sabine, Wedge, and Hobbie have no way to escape and are at the mercy of the merciless Empire. That’s not terrifying at all! /sarc/ The good Governor likes herself some info and knows how to get it out of peeps. All she ultimately gets is “Rea”‘s real name, but that’s all she needs. The good news is, Kallus is no longer a jerkface. Bad news is… Pryce is a much bigger one. Gov’nuh already knows much of the young Mando’s doings, which is why she shouldn’tve been surprised when Sabine utterly owned her in a fistfight. Well, considering how well Pryce held her own for a while, I don’t think she was too surprised. Just probably caught her off-guard when the fierce little Wren smacked her into that electric torture prod. Seriously this fight was AWESOME. it’s impressive that Pryce, as an orderly diplomatic graycoat, could throw punches like that. But finally getting to see Sabine’s supercommando Mando side in a weaponless face-off is the awesomest of all. Dude I wanna be Sabine Wren when I grow up! Yeah Wedge and Hobbie were trying to formulate a rescue but… well, she’s just that good. Now I think the boys both wanna be Sabine Wren when they grow up XD With a solid blaster at her side, Sabine paves through the all the ‘troopers in their way. And suddenly they’re stopped by Agent Kallus. Up until this point, I’ve firmly believed Kallus is Fulcrum and that he’s a good guy now, but as he stands between our heroes and their way out, I was hit by doubt. What if I was mistaken and he wasn’t Fulcrum? Or what if he was Fulcrum but he was actually leading them on? What if…? Then Kallus quietly gives them directions to their best possible escape route. “Tell Garazeb Orrelios we’re even”. AWW YAYYY I WAS RIGHT KALLUS IS A GOOD GUYYY!! X3 From there the trio grabs a TIE bomber, and with Wedge doing awesome in the pilot’s seat, they’re able to escape Skystrike, reunite with their Rebel freighter, and win the day! It’s this kind of awesomeness that’s impossible to put into words… but you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about. It’s awesome. After recent near-escapes and half-victories, it’s good to know that no matter what happens next, Sabine’s mission was a definite win, because it got two fantastic young pilots in its ranks πŸ™‚
What a great one am I right?! So great getting a Sabine episode this early on, and like I said before, finally getting to meet Wedge Antilles! (and Hobbie too!) I’ll fly with ya next week! *Punched for the bad pun*

Rebel Transmissions: The Mystery Of Chopper Base

So I had a lovely Star Wars Day yesterday. Watched Episode I (since it’s been officially five years since I first saw it), threw in a little Clone Wars action, some Lego Droid Tales fun, read my Original Trilogy Costumes book a bit, listened to songs with SW references, ate SW Cheez-Its, and wore my BB-8 schematics shirt! But my love of Star Wars doesn’t just pertain to one day a year, it’s everyday! So let’s continue the celebration with the totally-exciting, sometimes-frightening, and always-feely episode The Mystery Of Chopper Base!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from TCW episode Legacy Of Terror and Rebels episodes Out Of Darkness, The Siege Of Lothal, Shroud Of Darkness, The Forgotten Droid, and The Mystery Of Chopper Base.

It feels good seeing the mini-Alliance finally find home. And though it’s only stated in the title, I’m sure Chopper won’t let anyone forget that it’s his base. Also I’m gonna guess AP lost a bet XP We catch the Ghost family in the middle of movin’ in, going back and forth delivering stuff to the planet surface. But while Hera is looking forward to getting settled, a few of our crewmembers are planning on taking off. Kanan and Ezra are hard at work doing some seriously intense lightsaber training. Also we get to see their blue blades in training mode! I didn’t know they could do that, but it makes a lot of sense, considering no one wants to lose a limb while practicing. Fun uncovering new secrets of the SW galaxy! Aw man they seriously got skilllllz tho. They kinda have to since they’ve got the path to Malachor lying in front of them. They practice fighting like they mean it, like their lives absolutely 100% depend on it (which will likely be very true), and as fiercely and craftily and aggressively as they can. But their skillz are pretty equally matched, as they keep coming to a draw. And as Kanan explains, there are no ties in lightsaber duels. So that means MORE PRACTICE! Whoo-hoo. Hera watches her boys with pride, but also with a glimmer of sadness. Things are getting real out here man. Just watching Kanan practice-fight dirty like an inquisitor reminds us of that. And yes I am writing this completely from the perspective I had the day I watched this. Just wanted to clear that up again.
Also “THIS IS MY EXCITED FACE!” OMG I died laughing. So perfectly Kanan. He mighta just started a meme right there. But Hera doesn’t share her copilot’s enthusiasm. Though I completely sympathize with Hera’s feelings in this moment, Kanan looks so confused it’s hilarious. Also HI AP-5!! He’s gonna have to get used to the fact the Ghost crew’s always fashionably late πŸ™‚ The world they’re setting up roots on is dry and hot and has an abundance of tiny crabby-things (which I find rather adorable, don’t tell Zeb), but it’s home! But… well, there’s always a “but”. A young Reb was setting up sensors around the perimeter when a much much larger pest problem reared its ugly head. The little bogans mirror our own reaction as she falls prey to the nightmarish beast. Oh look things just got more real.
Elsewhere Kanan and Hera survey their handiwork as the base continues to come together. But knowing Kanan and Ezra won’t be here, it makes it a little harder for Hera to be enthusiastic. Kanan reiterates how important it is for them to get the inquisitors off their backs if they want to keep this mini-Alliance going. To his credit, he’s trying here, even finally says “yeah you were right being part of a larger Rebellion is awesome”, but boy still don’t quite quite get it. But then word that one of their lieutenants is missing puts this conversation on hold. Rex and Sabine are on the case!
This won’t be the first time you hear me say this in this post, but Mystery Of Chopper Base is super-super nostalgic in addition to being always-feely. Because with the future ahead uncertain, this sorta feels like a last episode for everybody together. This golden little moment in the midst of the craziness definitely fits the nostalgia feels. Hehe Chopper seems to be living up to his “grumpy pet cat” description as he pursues a smol crab and rams right into Ezra. The astromech continued his chase after letting Ez know where Zeb went off to. Ah just like the good ol’ days… always running here and there and then getting tripped up by the family C1. Much nostalgia right there πŸ™‚ So Zeb was outside, already had a little spot of his own set up and enjoying the sunset. Interesting thought do you think Lasan was generally a hotter-temperatures planet? We know Zeb isn’t fond of the cold (but who is really?), and I get the feeling that this isn’t the most temperate world. Perhaps Zeb favors more warm desert-y climates? He even seems to have toes like a species of desert lizard (that I can’t remember the name of) that helps them walk on hot ground without burning their feet! Of course the sun is setting so maybe the weather’s more favorable at this point and he’s enjoying a more temperate evening. OK yeah I know I’m weird but like I’ve said before weather in SW is fascinating because it’s rarely obvious. Also a thought on Lasat and their old homeworld again. I’ll stop rambling now. But yeah… it’s majorly presh as Zeb invites Ezra to just chill out with him a moment. Ezra’s aware that a lot’s up in the air with what may ultimately come of their trip to Malachor. But Zeb throws some solid encouragement his way, knowing his little bro’ll be back, and by then they’ll both have stories to tell πŸ™‚ And so with that they turn up the radio and simply enjoy the moment, whatever the future holds. AUGH. THE ABSOLUTE FEELS. Still gets me thinking how much they’ve grown, how they’ve truly become brothers. GAH MOVING ON BEFORE I CRY.
Meanwhile, Rex and Sabine’s search for the lieutenant turned up dry, but they did find a HORRENDOUS GIANT CRAB-SPIDER THING!! Yeesh I wish I remembered all the species names in this episode. And now they’re back and in greater numbers! The clone and the Mando’s awesomeness combined is a sight to behold. But with the crawlers’ crusty hides resilient to blasterfire, Sabine gets knocked out and Rex gets carried off very quickly. Sabine gets back on her feet and manages to down a few of the creeps with a shot to the eye, but they very nearly get her too. Good thing the Ghost and its crew had her back. No questions the family’s making sure they get their resident “grandpa” back! OK except maybe for Zeb ’cause he’s got a problem with multi-leggers… “MORE THAN TWO LEGS IS JUST… EXCESSIVE!”. Careful bro you might’ve offended some of Admiral Trench’s spider-person kin. Granted they really just have multiple arms instead of legs, but I assume it would still come off just as creepy. Hmm… season 3 episode prediction: Zeb has to negotiate a deal with the spider-people. That would go well XD
And so, armed with lightsabers and flashlights, the Ghost team enters the tunnels. Also that bit where Ezra one-ups Zeb’s dinky flashlight with his ‘saber? PERFECTION XD With so many routes to go, Kanan suggests they split up. But instead of Ezra with half of them and Kanan with the other half, Hera suggests the Jedi go separately, knowing they’ll need to get used to Rebelling without the Force-wielders around. Again, getting some sad vibes here. So ’bout as soon as the master and padawan turn around there’s a crawler staring them down. Ezra decides to try and Force-connect with it, since, after all, it’s kinda his thing. But it seems the beastie doesn’t respond to such and just rather’d eat them. It took Kanan about 1.2 seconds to leap to his apprentice’s defense and kill the bug. Also yet another golden quote: “You always change the subject when I start winning!” XD Man the season’s been over for a month and I’m already missing the sound of their camaraderie…
So if there’s one thing that we learn from this episode, it’s that giant spider dens are creepy to the max. Oh wait, I think we already learned that from Legacy Of Terror in TCW, except those were zombie Geonosians but the principle is the same. Thank goodness Rex is still alive… even though being caught in the creature’s terrifying grip sorta puts a time limit on that matter. Hera, Sabine, and Zeb manage to pry open the cage of spider legs and free their comrade, buuuuut it’s hard to do that without waking it up so… time to go. Seems like everywhere they turn though more crawlers show up! The blaster-wielding side of the family holds their own well, but they can only shoot so many at once. Just as Hera was about to try taking one down herself, the ‘saber-wielding side of the family made their entrance. Together they manage to get out of the tunnels, but the Ghost isn’t too much safer. Those bugs quickly get to work on webbing the ship down. Ezra, Zeb, and Kanan take to the big guns, and Hera and Sabine whip out the bug-zapping shield they used on the fyrnocks, but neither make much of a dent in the spidercrabs. Only option now is to cut the ship free. Zeb’s all “NOPE”. To which Ezra responds “Greaaat the last Jedi in the galaxy are gonna get eaten BECAUSE YOU WERE TOO AFRAID TO COME OUTSIDE!!” Ah so many priceless moments πŸ˜› It’s looking like there’s no way to stop the crawlers, but then Sabine realizes they’re bothered by the sensor markers, the only reason they hadn’t set foot on the base, and the other reason they didn’t attack her earlier that day. Time for an Ezra plan! While the rest of them defend the ship from the bugs, Ezra and Kanan’ll Force-throw Sabine over to the sensor. “It’s times like this I reallyy wish I had a jetpack”. Wellll if someone had picked up on all those hints she left for Life Day things might be different now! XP New season 3 episode prediction: Sabine buys a used jetpack at the market and finds out it was stolen from Boba Fett and he’s not happy. Of course, things go well and they mayyy have given her too much of a push and oh look a cliff. *Facepalm* Couldn’tve planned for that, could ya? Also, wow major props to Rex for taking on that crabspider like he did. I mean, he basically WRESTLED IT OUT and KICKED IT IN THE FACE. Not bad for an old clone! And thank goodness ’cause man that got scary at times. Speaking of, how’s Sabine doin? Thankfully she had more of a grip on that cliffside than it looked when Ezra and Kanan pitched her over. But then ANOTHER ONE IS COMING UP BEHIND HER!! AHHH!! Thankfully she manages to get back up and get to the sensor just in time. She’s in charge now, crawlers! She’s in charge! With that, the Jedi cut the Ghost loose and head for home!
So even though the bugs are a bit of a drawback, Hera’s not about to give up this base, no sir. Ultimately, the sensors are the answer, just lots and lots and lots of sensors. Kanan’s glad to see their pest problem resolved, but Sabine’s finally done holding her silence “GO. TALK. TO. HERA.” Yes she’s noticed. She done noticed everyythingg. Kanan’s all derp like “Whut?” and Sabine’s all *facepalm* “MEN! SHE’S GONNA MISS YOU, YOU DOLT!”. He got the hint this time. Thank goodness ’cause we were all thinking what Sabine was thinking. Though I will note, as Kanan walks away, Sabine has this hint of a smile on her face… yeeeees she ships ’em just as much as we do.
So when Kanan walks over, Hera immediately turns the conversation to business stuff, since she thinks that’s probably all she’s gonna get from him. But in his own kinda awkward way, he reassures her he and Ezra’ll be all right. For a moment, he puts all the business matters and uncertainties aside, and they share a tender, bittersweet goodbye hug. “We’ll see each other again…” he promises. I absolutely about died of feels here. There were tears on my part I can promises you that. Even with no idea what was to come, it’s impossible not to feel as though it’s final somehow. It’s absolutely beautiful, and it most definitely speaks volumes about their relationship at this point, and it basically leaves me reeling with feels. Le sigh… I do love Kanan and Hera together something awful ❀
In the last few enigmatic moments of the second-to-last episode, we find Ezra trying again to reach out to a spidercrab, only to be snarled at again. At least this time it's from the safety of the sensor-surrounded base. It's about then when Ahsoka arrives. Ezra ponders why it is he can't connect, but Ahsoka can only further ponder on the many mysteries of the Force. Some questions simply can't be answered. But for now, they have bigger questions to find answers to. Malachor awaits.
So I think all I can do after an episode this incredible is wish you the best of luck to recovering from those feels. Especially if you're like me and already saw what happens next, but that's another post for another day. Until then…

Uncovering The Lost Storyreels: Unfinished Business

And so we’ve reached the finale of this fantastic storyarc! Love that it’s an exciting awesome episode, sad that it’s the last of ’em. Hopefully my blogging skills are more astute than they were last time around. Either way, it’s time to dive deep into the episode called Unfinished Business!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from the Clone Wars Microseries, Rebels episode Out Of Darkness, TCW episodes Counterattack, Orders, The Bad Batch, A Distant Echo, On The Wings Of Keeradaks, and Unfinished Business (Storyreels)

Phototitle for Unfinished Business

So if you thought our heroes could get a break after all the insanity regarding Echo’s rescue… you were wrong. But obviously by the episode’s title you could probably tell that we weren’t just going to join the Bad Batch for a sandwich break (though come to think of it, I really want to see that episode now XD ). They’re still fightin’ Trench on Anaxes (also I recently figured out that this is the fyrnock-ridden base we see in Out Of Darkness; too bad they couldn’t connect with some of the critters to help them fight the battle! But perhaps the fyrnocks are why the base was abandoned in the first place), so no breaks for Jedi or clones right now. Master Windu has proposed a drop into the Sep’s Anaxes assembly complex, sounds easy enough, but it’s kinda crazy fortified so yeah maybe not that easy. But it happens that Echo has an idea. Omygoodness… I got all feely seeing Echo again… I rewatched a couple of the Citadel episodes this past week and relived his last normal mission and lost it when Fives had to move on without his friend… and then again when I realized Fives and Echo wouldn’t see each other again… πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯ Sorry, boy this became a mess of emotions real fast! But anywayyyy despite Echo’s still recovering, he isn’t about to back down from helping a brotha out. He and his bros in the Clone Force 99 got this. I understand that, in unmade episodes later on, Echo became one of Bad Batchers, which of course makes perfect sense. Can’t help but notice he’s sportin’ a set of dark armor similar to that of the 99s’. So in some ways, he’s already one of them before even officially joining them. Please excuse my flawed logic. But yeah you go Echo! Steal dat Seppie algorithm and win this for the Republic with your epic tech skillz! Rex to Tech: “Don’t worry, Echo’s got a plan” “That makes me feel sooo much better…” XD C’mon Tech have faith in your fellow bro! Might he be a little jelly he can’t hook up into computers like Echo? Haha I know I would! What I would give to just write blogs in my brain instead of typing for hours! And onward our heroes go, with the Bad Batch gang leading the way!
And seriously these guys drop the best lines without even meaning to… “Pleaaaase tell me we’re gonna blow something up!” XD XD If it were up to me, I’d say “Yes you blow up all the things, Wrecker!”, but that’s on account of the fact I’m not general material and I love him to pieces. Again, Crosshair slept through most of it XD Echo then links in and masks their ship’s signal the boss way he do so the bad guys won’t take notice. And it works — battle droids can’t tell it from any other in their fleet. And our team lands without a hitch.
Meanwhile, the battle on Anaxes is already underway, with the usual droids shooting and gunships and Y-wings flying. With Mace and Obi-Wan leading the troops, they make quite the entrance to the assembly complex. Especially as Mace does something wonderfully unexpected… he bargains with the swarms of droids. He’s giving them the chance to peacefully surrender so they can be reprogrammed for the Republic. This coming from the guy who tore apart super battle droids with his bare hands? One of the battle droids has no clue what to make of this and gives this confused shrug to his companion, and Obi-Wan’s like “dude really?”. But you gotta admit Master Windu is awesome at giving speeches! Unfortunately, battle droids don’t give much thought to the concept of “peace” and “nonviolence”… the fact that the battle droids even ceased fire for that moment just to listen to him is astounding! And so the blasters go blasting once more. Well, you can’t blame a Jedi for trying… destroying droids probably gets old after doing it just about every day for nearly three years. But yeah after that the clones rejoin the generals and bring their own blasters. It seems they’ve got this win in the bag, but Admiral Trench has a sneaky little plan of his own… DUN DUN DUN.
It’s hardly a challenge for Anakin, Rex, Echo, and the Bad Batch to make their way into Trench’s ship. And it’s NBD for Echo to link into their systems. Though as Tech finds out, it may be a bit of a problem for the guys at the complex ’cause Trench just sicced all his droids on ’em. Or is it? Actually, it’s all part of Echo’s genius plan. He told Trench to send all the droids there… and once they’re there, he’ll shut them all down. Boom shake the room! That earns a pat on the shoulder from Tech and a smile from Rex πŸ˜€ Though admittedly Mace and Obi-Wan aren’t quite looking forward to all the new droids joining the party even so. ‘Cause just when it seems they’d decimated them all… suddenly there are literally zillions of them. “Does this meet your expectations?” “This… exceeds my expectations.” Hehe. And then boom! Echo fries ’em all! Love how one droid cries out “WHYYYYYYYYYY” as he gets shut down XD Yeah the Admiral wasn’t too happy… but he knows that the command came from his ship so that likely means trouble for the good guys.
It seems to be a pretty clear victory on the Anaxes front, but Echo soon finds that there miiiiiight be a bomb there… like, a really big could-cream-the-whole-planet bomb. Echo sends out a message to Master Windu while Anakin decides to have a little chat with the spider-guy. Indeed Mace finds a bomb in the complex’s fusion reactor, and the panel to shut it off is sorta kinda rayshielded. But again, another area of Echo’s expertise. Echo loads up each number to the passcode while Mace uses the Force to punch it in. The process is going great right up until one of the battle droids finally finds where Echo’s signal is coming from and decided to fry him. NUUUUU!! And then on come the super battle droids and our heroes are forced to make a run for it, carrying Echo’s unconscious form. Admiral Trench is feeling pretty good about his chances… and then he opened the door and there was Anakin. General Skywalker cuts up all his clankers real fast, and not even Trench’s arm-gun can bring him down. Yeah he’s not interested in any talking beyond what the final number to the passcode is. And Trench isn’t particularly interested in giving him it. Trench is all “pff you can’t do nothin’ to me you’re a Jedi and your nobility is a weakness” and to that Anakin sliced his robotic arms off. Yikes don’t mess with the General peeps. After that the Admiral was a bit more willing and spilled it, allowing for Mace to finally turn off that bomb. But not missing out on a chance to get even, Trench hits Anakin with his prod-staff and then Anakin hits Trench with his lightsaber. Ohh yes. You really really really don’t mess with the General. Before leaving the spider-Seppie with a fond farewell, Anakin happens to find a detonator… for the whole ship. Why would they even have that detonator?! Regardless, Anakin knows Wrecker will love it. Meanwhile, Wrecker is in his element in “wrecking ball mode”, smashing battle droids with nothin’ but brute force. Hunter caps it off well with “Honestly, I feel bad for those droids…” XD And Crosshair does a fantastic job aiming a refracting detonator at a battle droid. The droid’s all “sticky!” and then… well, you know what happened next XD As our troopers meet up with Anakin again, Crosshair hangs behind to pepper the walls with more refracting detonators. OK I’m not saying these guys’ll show up in Rebels or anything but I think Sabine would have a lot of fun with them πŸ˜€ Crosshair’s so good Wrecker can only hang his head in shame XD But he cheers up pretty fast because as soon as our team flies off, Anakin shows him the detonator! Big guy can’t help but shed some tears and remark “this… is the greatest day of my life!” just before he hits the button and the entire ship explodes! VICTORYYYYY
And back on Anaxes, we’re actually getting a legit medal ceremony! Mace gives the speech and Anakin and Obi-Wan gives the medals and all the clones cheer and clap and celebrate these brave not-so-clonelike clones! Even the astromechs are dancing with glee! SO MUCH YAY!! It’s always been said that differences make us stronger, well, that is perhaps even more so the case for these incredible troopers πŸ™‚
AHHH I’M SO HAPPYYY!! AND HONESTLY PRETTY GLAD I’M DONE WITH THE BLOG BECAUSE IT SHOULDN’TVE TAKEN THIS LONG BUT THE VIDEO HAD PROBLEMS LOADING! AND I FORGOT TO TURN THE CAPS LOCK OFF AGAIN BUT I’M IN A HAPPY CAPS LOCK MOOD! UNTIL NEXT WEEK…

Reveling In Rebels: A Season One Recap, Part 1

So today I’m gonna do something a bit different. Basically I’m gonna sit and ramble on how much I love Star Wars Rebels! OK maybe not entirely… because that could take a long while and we only have, like, six or seven months until the next season! But yeah… this show has become such a part of my life, like everything Star Wars does, and I just wanna pour out my heart on how much this show’s meant to me, and go back and look at this season as a whole, and how incredibly amazing it all is. I know this probably isn’t what you would naturally be looking to read, but hey, what’s a blog if not someone talking about something important to them? So fangirl or fanboy along with me why dontcha? πŸ™‚
NOTE: Contains spoilers from basically the entire first season of Rebels… so don’t read this if you’ve missed a single episode.

14 seems like a small number, doesn’t it? But Rebels has made it a number bigger than you could ever imagine. I can say this because every time I watch an episode, older or newer, I can’t help but take notice as to how the characters have grown, how their relationships have grown, how their world has expanded. A week before the show started, I transformed a piece of Rebels promo art into a wallpaper. I couldn’t wait to meet these characters, and now whenever I look at that wallpaper, it sorta hits me that I have not only met these characters, but that I know them. I don’t know every little detail about their lives and every chapter in their stories, but I absolutely reel when I realize just how much I know about them even so. When I look at these characters, looking all cool and determined and ready to fight, I’m reminded of what they’ve been through. I’m reminded of Ezra’s battle with himself, Kanan’s false guilt, Sabine’s desire to have all the answers, Zeb’s losses. And even not knowing all of Hera’s story, there are plenty of times where we know she has faced plenty of trials of her own. At the same time, I’m reminded of how each of them moved on or won that battle in some way. I get all teary when I see Ezra face The Inquisitor and say “I’m not afraid…”, just as I do when I see Kanan stand tall and say “I have nothing left to fear”. I’m hugely encouraged every time I watch Sabine willing to trust even without all the answers. I keep hoping we’ll see Zeb come to some sort of peace regarding the tragedy the befell Lasan. And I about die “aww”-ing when Hera encourages her comrades at every turn, putting their needs often before her own. Maybe that all sounds a bit crazy, but to me, it’s just amazing realizing how, after 14 episodes, I feel like I’ve known the Ghost crew my whole life. Now to me they are as core to the SW galaxy as the Skywalkers themselves!
Every chapter reveals something, furthers something, expands on something. No episode airs without some sort of overall effect to the series at large. This can clearly be seen in Droids In Distress, as the droids’ seemingly average owner is actually playing his own part in the growing rebellion. Who’da thunk it, right?! And it goes even farther beyond that! So let’s take a second and talk about the episodes, and how each adventure affected the story as a whole.
I still remember the day I first saw Spark Of Rebellion, just how absolutely huge that felt! How I laughed, how I cried, and how it effortlessly snuck its way into my heart, as if I’d been watching it forever! And now when I watch it, I feel this sense of awe as to how much has changed over this season. I actually watched Spark Of Rebellion after watching Fire Across The Galaxy last week. Definitely a cool experience, seeing them from that first rescue to their most recent one πŸ™‚ It’s amazing seeing how they’ve bonded since then as well as how Ezra’s grown up. I mean, we now know a lot more about Ezra’s past than we did on the pilot. He grew up with such incredible parents, but eight years without them and he’s sorta gone against their message of helping others and standing up for those who can’t. Of course I’m not criticizing him, it would be easy to become jaded if I were in his shoes. And of course, he probably connected losing his parents to the good things they did, so he likely wanted to get away from that as far as possible. While I know I probably overuse the Aladdin connection, he really is a diamond in the rough at this juncture, he just doesn’t know it yet. And man oh man… I get all sorts of feely when Ezra watches as Zeb and Sabine give out food to the Tarkintown residents… how he’s really starting to figure it out, how it’s starting to reopen his eyes to why exactly his folks did what they did. And seriously, one of potentially my most favorite moments ever in the show has to be in Path Of The Jedi when he tells Yoda that helping others makes him “feel alive“… just… wow. So much wow. To see him take that leap from looking out for number one to finding joy in giving back just blows my mind every time. It’s hard not to cheer every time I watch Spark Of Rebellion and see Ezra slowly making the right choice in things, and even going out to help when the odds are all stacked against him. And despite all the craziness that conspires, at the end of it all, the crew’s doesn’t seem to want to say goodbye to this thieving street kid. We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Ezra makes the right choice at the end when he makes the decision to join the Ghost family. Could there have been a better first chapter for this story? I think not πŸ™‚
Then there’s Droids In Distress again. Beyond just Bail Organa’s connections that none of us had a clue about, this episode has a lot of interesting ties to the rest of the season. I love, of course, learning more about Zeb and his story. As I said on my Transmission on the episode, it really opened my eyes to what a great guy Zeb is, and made me respect and love him even more than I already did. In the days before Rebels debuted, Zeb was kind of an enigma, and seemingly kind of hard to define through just the character intro video alone. I never doubted he’d be an awesome character and that I’d love him, but I had no idea just how awesome he would be and how much I would love him. So yeah this episode went beyond just the concept of the Rebels running into Threepio and Artoo, it gave me a full-on case of the feels and put me on the edge of my seat. And of course, we get to see Ezra’s first really big show of Force as he awesomely defends his comrade, even though he has no idea how he did it. Along with another interesting tie, as we now know Sabine really was an Imperial Academy student. Whether she really was a level five or not I don’t know… pshh she’s so beyond grades. On a scale from one to ten she’s a 37! Watching this episode again recently definitely wet my appetite to learn more about Zeb and Sabine in the season to come. And made me keep crossing my fingers that a character from the Droids series might walk in one day…
Speaking of Zeb, then there’s Fighter Flight! It was pretty cool of Ezra to save Zeb’s life and stuff… up until he started holding it over his head. We got another glimpse at Ezra’s past through the awesome Mr. Sumar, which opened up a whole chapter on his family we didn’t know about. The whole overall story with Ezra and Zeb is an absolute delight, further expanding on the Ghost family’s awesome dynamic. And of course, that infamous TIE… I never would’ve seen coming exactly how that Fighter would end up being used in the end! And an infamous painting on the wall will always remind us of such events. You could say Chopper is the real hero in this because if he hadn’t gotten Zeb and Ezra squabbling they wouldn’t have ended up in the situation that led them to the TIE in the first place and if they hadn’t had that TIE later on Kanan might be a dead man right now. Well, this might not be entirely the case, but yeah no one can deny Chopper the title of “Rebel Hero”… even when he does throw dishes at you, hits you with electricity, removes the screws from your bunk, and laughs at you just ’cause he wants to πŸ˜€
Then it got real on Rise Of The Old Masters. This episode really nailed me in the feels. I guess after the mostly lightheartedness of Fighter Flight I had no clue just how much it would blow my mind. But hello The Inquisitor’s in it! And man… Kanan and Ezra’s relationship is so great… you feel for them both in their frustrations this episode as Kanan feels inadequate as a teacher for Ezra, and Ezra, who feels like Kanan’s giving up on him. But after being led into a trap (that only now we realize was totally thanks to Gall Trayvis), nearly dying at the hands of The ‘Quiz, and taking on a good chunk of the Empire, they both are willing to do — not just try. I love how much their relationship grew in this one, and you gotta love Kanan for not being perfect, for being real, for being honest, for being extremely relatable to both Ezra and the rest of us. It just makes their father-son-esque bond all the awesomer. And The Inquisitor’s quite epic in his first flesh-and-blood appearance, too… I always knew he was an intense baddie, but I had no idea he was so classily calculating, and that made him all the cooler! Yeahhh I’m gonna miss him chasing down the Rebels like he do. Most defs. And his epic lightsaber. But eh well I’d miss Kanan a lot more so I won’t miss ‘Quizzy that much… but I’m getting ahead of myself.
And then there’s Breaking Ranks! Ezra’s inside job and the first time we get to meet Zare Leonis! It’s insanely cool getting to dig deeper into the Empire and how it does what it does, like training up young ‘troopers. And yeah Zare is so stinkin’ cool… and the fact he’s got his own book series going on makes him all the cooler! But yeah, it’s nice to know that Ezra’s not the only “rebel” in these ranks. Even when you’ve got crazy cadets who think the Empire hung the moon (pfffff see what I did there?? XD ). There’s so much I can’t wait to dig into further in Zare’s series, but until then, I’m just happy to enjoy this adventure as it is, as Ezra’s made an unexpected friend while undercover and the Imperials get whupped by friendship and teamwork! (Sorry I know that sounds cheesy but it’s true) Oh, and Jai and Zare live our dream and drive a walker. That too.
Of course, we have to talk about Out Of Darkness. This is the episode where we really got to sit down and learn some more about our rebel girls… including a third girl we would have yet to meet, “Fulcrum” πŸ™‚ Getting to see Hera and Sabine bond over fighting Fyrnocks is quite the adventure, and we’re quite glad they made it out alive. And just getting these tiny hints in the direction as to the larger mission at hand is really cool, both in the moment and looking back. Fulcrum — er, Ahsoka — I’m sorry I ever might’ve given you a smidgen of doubt. And I’m sure Sabine’s thinking that a bit now. Though it will be interesting to see if Sabine and Ahsoka ever butt heads over something in the business of rebelling. It’s really amazing seeing how Hera handles this, how she’s able to encourage Sabine to have faith even when she can’t give her all the answers. It is so much legit truth, and it comes to mind every now and then when I’m asking questions that I can’t have answered. Getting to know more of their stories is one of the things that makes this episode so awesome. And it’s really hard to encapsulate all of that in this one paragraph, so go and read the Transmission on the episode for more (and ignore all my ramblings from back before I ever wondered if Fulcrum was Ahsoka). Like say, when you look at how everything comes together at the end… it is all kinds of epic.

Come back next week to read the rest of the recap!
