Following The Freemakers: Return Of The Kyber Saber

So with the second season just around the corner, I’d say it’s high time I got this post written. Today we shall do some digging into the marvelous first season finale of The Freemaker Adventures, Return Of The Kyber Saber! Let’s see if I can some good nerdy thoughts together for you today…
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Rebels episode Empire Day, and basically the entire first season of The Freemaker Adventures

OK so one thing I’ve absolutely adored about TFA is the way they’ve so flawlessly weaved in elements and concepts that started in Rebels, one of those being the joyous celebration known as Empire Day! Y’know a really interesting thought just hit me about Empire Day… different planets probably have different calendars, so depending where you are, it might fall in the summer, or the winter, or whatever other seasons the world might have. It’s not a huge revelation I guess, but it’s just neat to think about. But clearly, as the capital of the galaxy, Coruscant is the place to be on E-Day! And if you happen to be the Emperor, it’s even better. I love how he tears open his presents like a little kid! Granted, he’s a rather ungrateful little kid but it’s still kind of charming in a weird way. Man I can’t imagine being in those Imperials’ shoes… what do you get the Emperor who literally has everything? I can see how easy it’d be to just default to “Galaxy’s Best Emperor” mugs to be safe. From what I gathered from Tarkin he seems to like fine decor, so maybe an artistic Nubian knickknack might suit him. Or maybe it’s just safer to go with a gift card. But then again, judging by how many Imps lined up with boxed gifts, he must prefer actual tangible gifts over credits. Plus, a handpicked gift is just sometimes more thoughtful, y’know? I’d say that those who’ve been in the Empire the longest probably have figured out how to shop for him, but Vader defaulted to the mug option too. With him, “it’s the thought that counts” doesn’t count. But in truth, the best Empire Day gifts don’t come from a store… they come from treachery, deception, and devious intent. Agent Naare is about to bring him a deadly superweapon on a silver platter — the long-lost Kyber Saber. Wouldn’t that be the brightest candle on the cake! XD Isn’t that’s an image? But in all seriousness you guys we’re all toast if the plan Rowan proposed last episode doesn’t pull through.
Another interesting revelation I’ve had recently is that Rowan has more than just one Force talent. I’ve always considered his connection to Kyber crystals one, but I think his ability to build is also unique gift from the Force. We watch him masterfully put the StarScavenger back together piece by piece. It might seem simple enough to those us who just see the ship as Lego parts, but it’s important to remember that their world is only portrayed as plastic. These characters and the galaxy they live in are as real to me as any other medium we’ve seen Star Wars in. The unfocused, accident-prone boy we met in the first episode has now perfectly reconstructed an entire ship in the course of a day or so. That’s the kind of amazing stuff the Force can do. Like seriously. Your mind’s gotta be blown by now, right?
“…is this who you really are? An evil Sith? Or are you just a misunderstood soul who’s never learned to love herself?” “Mmm… nope.” Yet we know that’s not true because no Star Wars villain is! With maybe the exception of Sidious but I don’t know all his story yet. Dangit, Naare has been such an awesome, fascinating character! Someone better put her in the canon right now and write books and comics on her right now! And maybe do an Anthology movie if they get the chance. She might be a villain but she’s among the most intriguing villains in the history of SW just because there’s so much we don’t know about her. I have my theories, of course, but I’m curious what the writers really have in mind. I don’t know if we’ll ever know her whole story but just wishful thinkin’. For now though, all we know is her darksider side, and that the Kyber Saber in her hands is a really really bad thing. Especially when she seems to like it a little too much. Y’know I find it interesting, knowing the way Sith and Sith-y sorts tend to be over power, that Naare never considered keeping it for herself before this. Partially I’m sure it was some loyalty to the Empire she serves, but I’m thinking that fear had a lot to do with it. Sidious and Vader pressured her beyond belief, and I wouldn’t doubt they probably used fear as a motivator more than once. So she had no time to consider what benefits she might reap from this, considering I imagine a fierce desire for power has fueled her darkness for a long time. But now that she holds the Saber… yeahh… Naare left Coruscant an Imperial agent, and she’s coming back Empress of the galaxy! Sidious really shoulda seen this coming.
Considering Empire Day is also Ezra Bridger’s birthday, it’s kind of adorable the Freemakers unknowingly take a cue from him in the first stage of their plan. To the sewers! Always a good idea! XD Least until a probe droid shows up. And a really big one I might add. Taller than Zander! Yikes. But with a solid wrench in hand, bro can handle it. Though it may take him a few showers to get rid of that particularly incredible smell…
Meanwhile Naare singlehandedly takes out two Imperial freighters and a handful of TIEs. Not to mention two whole Star Destroyers. Here’s another nerdy thought to chew on: the kyber crystals Jedi use in their lightsabers are tiny. They’re smaller than your thumbnail. The Kyber Saber is made entirely of these crystals. It’s about the length of a normal lightsaber, which I guess would be a few feet so… think about how many individual crystals that would be. Is that not an insane amount of power?! I mean, it might seem obvious since she’s already torn apart a whole moon but when you think about the science behind it… dang. Just… dang. Master Cantu clearly had no idea what kybers were truly capable of when he built that thing. It does make you wonder how he put it together from a canon perspective. Far as I can gather, you can’t just mine kybers like you mine spice; Jedi have to go through some challenging stuff to find just one! I’m thinking maybe Jedi didn’t have the same kind of connection to the crystals at that point in history. Perhaps all Cantu knew was that the crystal and the Force had a connection somehow, and that he could find a way to channel his own Force through that. So making a blade of the crystals was a logical method. Post his realization that such a large amount was deadly, he probably spent a lot of time figuring out what worked and what didn’t work with them, and perhaps, eventually, made a blade that channeled a beam of energy from the crystals instead. I don’t know how much they figured out with the Story Group’s help in making it half-way-sorta-canon, but it’s a reasonable assumption. Anyway, on to other areas of nerdiness.
So far the Freemaker kids are owning it today! Rowan gave me all kinds of warm fuzzies using the Force to save Zander from a perilous fall, and Kordi just don’t got time for bucketheads today and puts them in chains without wasting a second. But the final phase of the plan might be more challenging than all they’ve faced in the sewers combined. Rowan, in dark cloak with the Emperor’s officially-licensed voice changer in hand, has to play a convincing Palpatine to get the Kyber Saber in his hands. And at this point we all know that unless something changes… yep we are alllllll toast. The writing’s still solid tho! Never saw this turn coming! Though you’d think Rowan and family might’ve suspected something when Palpatine made a run for it. (Hey, better a living chicken than a dead Tarkin!) R0-GR’s head finally made it back to the Freemakers, but unfortunately a little too late. Oh, and random note: Rowan muttering “bored bored bored…” while spinning in the Emperor’s throne is 110% relatable XD Anyway, boy do things get real when Naare shows up. #Understatement SHE IS TERRIFYING YOU GUYS. SIDIOUS YOU SHOULD’VE GONE AND GOTTEN THE STUPID BLADE YOURSELF BECAUSE NOW LOOK WHAT HORROR YOU’VE UNLEASHED!! She is happy to kill her former apprentice if she can’t kill her former master, and also she basically uses one hand and the Force and downs two AT-ATs. I’ll theorize right now that possessing the Kyber Saber also enhances one’s use of the Force as well as channeling it through the blade, so Naare can do stuff that I’m not sure even the most powerful Forcewielder could alone. With the Saber in hand, she’s crowned herself Empress and no one’s gonna deny her and live. I shudder to think what might’ve happened if she’d actually stayed Empress. Of course, it wouldn’tve been much better if Palpatine had obtained the blade so either way this is a nightmare scenario come true. Everything has fallen apart, but Rowan isn’t done, not for a second. (“You have more lives than a lothcat!” got a big grin out of me) He picks himself out of the rubble and calls the kyber crystals back, putting the ultimate power in his grip instead. It’s pretty awe-inspiring. Rowan uses the blade to build walls, every time he turns around though, Naare cuts them down with her own ‘saber. For a moment, Rowan questions why he doesn’t just use the Kyber Saber as the weapon Naare wants it to be used as. He sounds so angry, so destroyed inside, recalling all the pain this monster in front of him has put his family through. He actually starts to drown her in the scrap around them, which I startlingly realized reminded me of how Naare nearly killed JEK-14. This image is both frightening and beautiful somehow. I’ve always loved the dichotomy of light and dark in the Star Wars mythos, and they’ve done an incredible job portraying these ideas and concepts in the series as we’ve witnessed many different shades of the Force between this innocent young boy who wished to be a Jedi and this malicious half-human woman who desires to be a Sith. Seeing Rowan wrestle briefly with the dark side is a really pivotal image and both fascinates me and wrecks me simultaneously. But as the Emperor looks on approvingly… Rowan realizes that this isn’t him. He is not a Sith, he is a Freemaker. And so, he ends the fight by jumping back aboard the StarScavenger, taking the ancient blade with him. I cheered you guys, it’s impossible not to. When TIEs give chase, the fam brings out their wild card (which I just realized would be an awesome ship name), the brand new Blazemaker. With a fake Saber in one hand and the Blazemaker’s controls in the other, Zander gives the Imps the slip real good. And may I just say the completed Blaze is one not-so-ugly “ugly”! It’s easy to understand now why he’s been passionate for this spacecraft of his, it’s gorgeous and it gets the job done! I think he oughta name it the Wild Card, don’t you? Unless of course the Blazemaker is its actual name and not the model. I get so confused sometimes. With the Imperials no longer in pursuit, Rowan masterfully uses the Force and the power of the Kyber Saber to beautifully reconstruct the Starscavenger into a totally different ship that the Empire will no longer recognize. It’s just astonishing what this amazing kid can do. Seriously. I’m just floored right now. And this is the fourth time I’ve watched this episode to date. Kordi’s proud sisterly smile matches my own :3
So I’m thinking the Emperor might appreciate his mugs right now, ’cause after a day like today, he’s gonna need a lot of kaffe. As for Naare, well, her comeuppance was genius. I didn’t really want her to die, but I knew she was a little too far past being redeemed, so making her a decorative piece for Graballa’s place was the perfect option. I did wonder a bit how it was they got her into carbonfreeze in the first place, since even cuffed she could do a lot of damage. I’m gonna theorize one of the Hutt’s men drugged her so she wouldn’t have the focus to use the Force. But yes, well played, Graballa. Now Naare’s got nothing but time to think. Unless you can’t really think much when you’re in carbonfreeze. I’m not really sure what the canon says on the matter but either way, the end of her chapter (for now) was quite appropriate.
Rowan ultimately decides that the day of the Kyber Saber’s return should also be its end, and sends the majestic weapon into the lava rivers of Sullust. (How cool is it we get to see Sullust tho?! I was hyped and I haven’t even played Battlefront yet!) Also important, Roger got put back together again. I spent a lot of time wondering where they found the extra parts or if they had extra parts to start with, but then I remembered “oh yeah the fam probably remembered to take that with them before they left The Wheel”. I couldn’t shake the thought it’dve been hilarious if they couldn’t find him battle droid parts so they put his head on a protocol’s body instead, buuuuut I think Roger’s happier this way 🙂 Anyway, the Freemakers aren’t sure where they go from here now that they’ve gone from scavengers to wanted criminals, but they get their answer from the timely arrival of a Rebel Alliance fleet. The Rebs have heard about what Rowan did, and they want him and his family to join them. Dude I got so distracted while I was writing this just looking at all the ships in the fleet. I kept searching for familiar ships, hoping I might spot the Ghost or the Gauntlet or something. At one point I mistook an A-wing for a TIE Defender and I was all “Wow how’d they get ahold of one of those things?!” XD But man oh man this ending… I’ve got a good feeling about this. The best feeling in the world, actually, as we watch Rowan, Kordi, Zander, and Roger enter a new chapter with the Rebel Alliance 😀
SO MANY FEELS OMG. I’m so glad this post turned out well, despite it was a long time coming. I can’t wait to see what awaits this beautiful family next! And for sure this time I’ll make sure these future posts come out with as few interruptions as possible. Anyway, thanks so much for reading 🙂

Following The Freemakers: Duel Of Destiny

Wow it’s been too long since I last did some writing on the Freemaker fam. You’ll have to forgive me if any of this post is off… it might take me a few paragraphs to get back in the game. Buuut hopefully not too long, ’cause even if I haven’t written about them in a while, I’m pretty much always thinking about this amazing family… and tbh a lot of headcanons to go with ’em.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode V, Episode VII, Rebels episodes Fire Across The Galaxy, The Holocrons Of Fate, Ghosts Of Geonosis, and Freemakers episodes Showdown On Hoth and Duel Of Destiny

So Naare’s done with everyone right now. Pressure’s on from her superiors, and she still can’t get over the fact Rowan pulled the rug out from under her like he did. Also Graballa won’t shut up. Give him some cred at least he’s looking on the bright side! Not many SW n’er-do-wells make a point of doing that! But I guess it’s tough to look on the bright side when you’ve got Palpatine breathing down your neck… yeesh. Also I just have to point out that Geonosian having a drink in the background. I’ll take that as a sign they don’t go extinct. Maybe it’s Klik-Klak even! Either way I like the idea that not all the bugs do the same stuff. Wouldn’t a Geonosian bounty hunter be the coolest thing?! That needs to be a canon thing right now OK? Sorry for rabbit-trailing. Let’s move along shall we?
Zander and Kordi have been searching all over the galaxy trying to find their little brother. From rim to rim, from Naboo to Tatooine, but with no success, the siblings finally decide to return to The Wheel and hope Rowan gets the same idea. Again ahhh the feels this family is so dedicated it breaks my heart to see them apart! We find that Rowan has found shelter on a remote, unknown rock where he spends his days practicing his lightsaber technique with training droids and Roger’s old memory footage of Jedi. The fact he’s learning from so many different Jedi is incredible. I mean, I know Roger’s not a fan of reliving his constant injuries (I’m guessing the Seppies started recycling their droids after a while), but Rowan’s got a legacy of masters no other Jedi can claim! That’s like… a dream prospect! And he’s not too shabby at it either! Rowan longs to be reunited with his family, but he won’t leave until he knows how to properly defend the final piece of the blade. So much wow this kid keeps blowing my mind with his awesomeness.
Though Naare couldn’t sense Rowan back on Hoth, she’s making a point to try this time as she spends long hours meditating. I still have so many questions on what she’s capable of with the Force, which honestly leads back to a lot of questions on what the Force itself is capable of. How does the ability to sense a presence work? I really gotta do my research again sometime because I either have no clue or I’ve completely forgotten. Is Naare truly incapable of sensing Rowan? And if so, why? WHY I TELL YOU??? Oh it’s painful having all these questions sometimes. Naare is not successful at sensing Rowan, but a tip-off from a spy regarding the boy’s family… that has the potential to be… successful… Bro I got the worst chills after that. Suddenly things got really really dark out here. Especially when the Eclipse FIghter lands in the Freemakers’ shop. “AHHHHMAGOSH THEY’RE DEAD.” was my response. I’ve wondered long what would go down if something like this ever happened. Naare’s a fully-committed darksider psychopath! If she wanted to get Rowan’s attention by torturing his siblings, then sure enough she could do it! But oh she makes very clear to Zander and Kordi she has no interest in doing them physical pain… mental torture is so much more fun O_O Maybe she can’t sense Rowan… but she has no doubt Rowan can sense his brother and sister’s suffering. And she starts off by hitting their more superficial fears as she mercilessly tears parts off the StarScavenger and burns their precious few credits. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if she knew how to do that Kylo Ren-ish/Maul-ish/Grand Inquisitor-ish mind torture thing too and maybe dig up some other old wounds. (I can’t be the only one wondering what became of their parents, right?) Though with the way Zander reacted after she tore apart the Blazemaker, well, she really didn’t have to do anything more. RIP Blazemaker. That was needlessly cruel.
Again, the fact that Rowan is learning from the likes of Anakin, Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, and Kit Fisto… just *makes explosion noise with mouth*. Plus, I mean, anyone can watch someone do something, but actually learning it and applying it? That’s harder. I mean, look at me! You’d think with all the lightsaber combat I’ve witnessed I’d know how to swing one in a fight, but eh a Jedi I am not. So yeah this has inspired me to try practicing dueling with my brother again. If Rowan can do it, so can I! And then he felt it… pain. Kordi and Zander’s pain. Roger re-reminds him of their plan to remain hidden, but Rowan’s changing the plan. “What’s the point of saving the galaxy if the people you love aren’t in it?” Oh my heart this precious child… he was about to pull a “Luke”. What he felt was no vision, it was really happening, so he was a little more in his right than Luke was. But at the same time… this boy is our last hope… and there’s isn’t another. All I knew for sure during my first viewing was that Rowan was about to learn a very very hard lesson.
OK this post needs some lightening up. Let’s spend a whole paragraph on Graballa’s green pretzel! OK maybe not a whole paragraph but seriously a green pretzel sounds really good. Though the one Graballa has looks like it could use some more salt because what’s a pretzel without salt? I mean seriously. Maybe the salt’s just baked in or something IDK. I’d sure hope so. All right now I’ve gotta cut the light chatter now because HOLY CRUD, NAARE JUST PULLED OUT HER LIGHTSABER ON KORDI AND ZANDER. So when Rowan finally showed up in a spectacular crash-landing fashion, I defs was cheering. What follows is too epic to base off my feeble description alone. Kordi and Zander take on Graballa and his fleet of moof-milkers (btw still one of the greatest SW insults ever) with only some junk and a whole lotta ingenuity (and also a giant magnet… and a fan… and a few other things). Meanwhile Rowan and Naare come blade-to-blade like never before, ’cause this time Ro’s been learning from the best. Naare definitely notices after a while, especially when he pulls a masterful move Darth Vader perfected. R0-GR takes the credit for his “padawan”‘s skills, but in doing so… might’ve revealed he remembers the location of the last Kyber Saber crystal. With this news, Naare violently force-pushes Rowan into a junk pile and slashes Roger’s head off. Now she’s got it all… her enemies defeated, the information she needs in the palm of her hand, and while she’s at it, she finally severs her deal with Graballa. No doubt she’s terrifying here but I kind of admire her confidence with handling Graballa and his gang. She’s all #WINNING today bro and now she don’t need anyone’s crud. So when Rowan rises up once more, blade ready… oh man that little teeny smidge of respect I had for her went out the airlock when she sent virtually everything down on his head. Watching him crushed against the wall like that still makes me shudder and hurts my heart to watch. I was honestly amazed he survived. So were Zander and Kordi. But out of the rubble, in their darkest hour… Rowan finds hope. He’s fought so hard to become a Jedi, but the only thing he needs to be right now is himself — a Freemaker.
As Boba Fett once said in an episode of Droids, “You haven’t won yet“. We’re talkin’ to you, Naare. *Drops the mic*
THAT WAS SO SO EPIC AW MAN I CAN’T. Reminded me again how antsy I am for that next season. Welp I look forward to writing about some Rebels epicness next week and all other manner of Star Wars epicness from there!

Following The Freemakers: The Kyber Saber Crystal Chase

FREEEEEEEMAKERRRRRRRR TIIIIIIIIIIIME *blows air horn*
Was I out of ideas for an opener? Yes, yes I was. Here at Padawanline we’re an honest bunch. And by “we’re” and “bunch”, I mean “I’m” and “person”, but it sounded better using the royal “we”. Yep this ought to be an interesting blog today! Let’s get started digging into the fast-paced excitement of The Kyber Saber Crystal Chase!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode III, The Empire Strikes Out, and Freemakers episodes Peril On Kashyyyk, The Test and The Kyber Saber Crystal Chase

We reunite with the Freemakers right where we left off last episode as they finish up final repairs on the StarScavenger. With a new Kyber Saber fragment in hand and their ship “purring like a nexu”, things are looking hopeful for the first time since yesterday’s frightening events (or however long it’s been… the amount of time that passes in SW confuses me sometimes). Then came a peppering of laserfire from Graballa’s fleet. And the Eclipse Fighter’s joined in too. Freemakers be like “HOW EVEN???” But before they know it, Naare Force-grabs the kyber crystal right out of Rowan’s hands. OH NOES WHYYYYYY. *Sigh* So much for hope. Time for the Freemakers to get the heck outta Tako-Dodge. They set their hyperspace for “anywhere” and fly off. Despite this, Naare doesn’t seem worried. And when a villain doesn’t fret over their prey getting away… it usually means they’ve got something else planned…
None of the Freemakers can figure exactly how she found them, especially when there’s no tracking device on their ship. Rowan feels terrible that, once again, he’s allowed pieces of the ultimate weapon to fall into their enemy’s hands. But Kordi surmises if they can keep at least one crystal out of Naare’s grasp, she won’t be able to reconstruct the Saber and the galaxy will be saved. So Rowan decides they’re heading to a certain water planet I’ve already forgotten the name of to grab the next crystal. To navigate the planet’s depths, Zander reveals his newest creation, the Z-Sub. Unfortunately for him, his siblings find his technological marvel to be adorable. I’d say I get Zan’s feelings on the matter, but it really is pretty darn cute :3 I know I wanna build that Lego set when it comes out! Kordi henceforth and forevermore dubs it the Bubbly Subbly. The Freemaker firstborn is not amused, buuuuut he ends up going with it anyway. To the deep blue sea! Ugh I gotta tell ya I am not good with new planet names… if it’s not readily accessible in the starwars.com databanks I won’t have a clue how to spell it, if I remember it at all! 😛 It is a really cool planet though. I wonder if it’s got any sentient life on it, or if it’s just a wild planet like Dagobah. It certainly does have life on it though, as it seems a massive anglerfish-like beast is using the Saber fragment as a light source. I’m guessing that the ancient Jedi probably didn’t hide it there. The fish probably found the crystal and took it for itself later on. The idea of a creature that uses found objects for their lures is seriously cool. Even though yeah it’s causing some major problems for our heroes today. The fish gives chase for a while until the Freemakers realize their now-broken light was competing with his lure. Once Rowan repairs it with the Force, the creature and the sub make a trade and go on their merry ways. Success! But then… NAARE?? AGAIN?? With the Fighter tethered to the sub, their best move is to head back underwater. The Agent’s ship was built for the stars, not the sea, which works well in the Freemaker’s favor as the Eclipse Fighter’s controls get fried. Zander made a spectacular move as he shot the sub back into the StarScavenger, but unfortunately, though the Fighter couldn’t fly, Naare still swiftly takes the new crystal for her own. Kordi insists Roger get get them into hyperspace now… while they’re still on the planet. What happens is magnificent. The force of the lightspeed jump causes the waters to rise in a massive wave. And Naare and her spacecraft are caught right in it. Truly MAGNIFICENT. But the score remains Naare: 2. Freemakers: 0. And Naare is well-aware of this. She’s usually so… well, short-tempered, to put it mildly. I’m seriously impressed with how chill she’s been today. But honestly she’s even scarier when she’s chill than when she’s full-blown enraged. Also the thing with Graballa and Dengar. It seems Vader’s not the only one to show up late for his dramatic entrance XD
Ooh finally a new paragraph! So the Freemaker’s next stop is Naboo. Beautiful, peaceful, well-populated-enough-to-help-them-lay-low Naboo! Unfortunately it’s also the Naboo that’s home to the new Palapatine Museum. OMG THIS CONCEPT. IT IS PERFECT. AND MAKES SO MUCH SENSE. Why wouldn’t the Emperor have a whole educational building dedicated to his greatness on his homeworld? Of all the places to hide a Kyber Saber crystal though…! Also Wic Cooper, “Palpatine’s biggest fan“, literally cuts in line to get the most expensive tour they’ve got. And this is a museum dedicated to Darth Sidious. Cooper you have no clue how messed-up this all is. Anyway, this calls for a master plan! That’s why R0-GR’s puttin’ on his fake ‘stache. OK actually Zander’s the one with the master plan, but it does still involve the droid. Zan’s just an ordinary deliveryman with a droid for the Clone Wars exhibit! But as soon as he runs into Durpin and Plumestriker… he’s an ordinary deliveryman with a fake mustache. Oh yes I missed Durpin and Plumestriker! It’s been too long! Now they’re museum officials, and Durpin is happy just to be doin’ nothing much of anything. Plumestriker doesn’t seem to share the opinion but he is Durpin’s subordinate, so whatcha gonna do, right? But while they go about their “business” (read: playing dejarik), the Freemakers go about some business of their own. With Roger on the inside, the sibs are able to get in without a hitch. But about two seconds in Zander darts off to the gift shop. I don’t blame him I have a serious thing for museum swag. And museums in general. Were I living in their galaxy I’d probably not be as fond of the Imperial merch, but in this galaxy, all I want right now is that little AT-AT XD Kordi and Rowan remind him to remain focused (and also that btdubs Palpatine wouldn’t bat an eyelash at killing them so why would you buy his merch?) but man… this museum is a treasure trove of beautiful distractions. Roger goes off to talk to some old (deactivated) friends, Zander can’t resist the allure of the vintage starships… even Kordi isn’t immune when she eyes all the pretty Queen Amidala dresses! That made me laugh so hard, because honestly I’m just like her in that way. Most of the time, I’ll dress casually and chill livin’ my average-American life, but I do love to dress up and act fancy from time to time XD Who knew financially-attuned Kordi would have such rich tastes? Also I really like the museum covers more than just Palpatine himself, but every aspect of his devious plan, which I just realized is actually kinda sad… but at risk of me talking about Clone Wars philosophy I should just move on back to the story. I never thought I’d see the day when Rowan had more focus than the rest of his family, but that day has come. OK well he was briefly distracted by a floor buffer, but still not as long as the others. Not that things go perfectly by any means though. Rowan was startled by a Palpatine animatronic and backed into a giant Palpatine statue that knocked over the other Palpatine statues and I’m literally already tired of saying “Palpatine” in this paragraph. And then one thing led to another and there was a… small explosion. Who’s bright idea was it put fully-armed blasters and N1 starfighters on display anyway?? Plumestriker won’t let Durpin ignore that. So he presses an alarm button and from behind the doors come a whole squad of storms. Wait… were those stormtroopers standing behind the door the whole time? Just waiting for something to go wrong? That must be insanely boring. But either way, it’s time for action! Whether Durpin likes it or not! Another question: though Kordi absolutely rocked the classic Queen Amidala dress, how did she do the makeup? Did they have actual samples of the makeup on display or does she actually carry some face paint around? And how’d she do it in the dark to begin with? The world may never know, but again, it’s fun seeing the secretly-fancy side of the Freemaker Bosslady. But now they’ve got stormtroopers staring them down with the dork Imps in tow. Plumestriker recognized them and had no problem ordering his men to fire… until THE EMPEROR HIMSELF SHOWED UP. I wasn’t really freaked out though, I figured it might’ve been Rowan taking advantage of the 50% off sale on the Palpatine voice changers. He orders them to let the “generous donors” go and Durpin is happily demoted to ensign. And turns out the kyber crystal was hidden away in the Queen’s headpiece. Y’know wow that must be one ancient headpiece if that was where the Jedi had hidden it all along. Wonder if Padme or Sabe ever noticed the small sharp pain whenever they put it on? And also why the ancient Jedi thought that was a good hiding place. But either way it worked out well for the Freemakers! Oh they weren’t gonna get off that easy though… look! It’s Naare! Again! And this time with Dengar! Of course this couldn’t just be easy. Also funny Kordi and Zander and I were thinking the same thing when Roger pulled out a loaded blaster on their foes. It just seems like an all-around bad idea, man! Insurance must be steeeeeep. But then again this is Palpatine we’re talking about “I AM THE INSURANCE!” XD Naare faces Rowan head-on this time, clearly looking forward to another win. But this time, Rowan fights back and Force-grabs it himself. Oooh Force fights are always fascinating to me. Who has the greater focus, who has the stronger ability? Unfortunately (also getting kinda tired of saying that), Naare gets into his head and takes it for herself. However, Rowan’s not going down without a fight, and unsheathes the red blade. OK am I the only person who really loves the imagery here? Our hero is clothed in black and fights with a red lightsaber, while our villain wears the traditional garb of a Jedi and wields a blue-blade. It’s seriously fascinating. As though an illustration that the light and dark lie in all, regardless of who we believe we are. No Sith is too far gone unless they choose to do so. Just as no Jedi is 100% pure of heart all the time. We’re human. We’re imperfect. But we always have a choice. After this episode I definitely toyed around with the wondering if Rowan might ever walk down the dark path Naare did, and if she might ever return to the light. Oh I just love talking SW philosophy! It’s so legittttt. This duel was equal parts exciting and terrifying, as we’re finally getting to see Rowan in a duel, but we’re all aware he’s not as well-trained as Naare is… and she fights dirty and mercilessly. So I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, knowing that one move and someone could be dead. Or minus a limb. And darn it all, Naare won again as she slammed Rowan’s lightsaber out of his grip, and followed that up by Force-grabbing him and throwing him into the N1. Now she approaches Rowan with two blades in hand, dragging them along the ground, surely about to end her pawn’s life, and I’m basically sick with fear at this point. “With me, you could’ve reached your destiny”. To which Rowan awesomely replies “I’m going to reach for something else.” Anyone else just realize how amazing that line is? Naare implies his destiny could’ve been with the dark, but Rowan knows he has a choice. Also it was a pun because he was about to drop the N1 on her, but it’s still amazing all the same. And like that, the starfighter explodes and sets off a chain reaction, most certainly sending everyone packing. With the museum falling down around them, it looks like the only kyber crystal they’ve got was in the blue-blade Rowan has now claimed as his own. It’s only when they’re aboard the StarScavenger once more they find out exactly how it is she knew their every move… Roger’s pack O.O *SHOCKING TWIST*
Turns out Naare actually somehow survived the wreckage. I was relieved in some ways because she’s an awesome villain and I didn’t really want her dead yet if she was going to die at all, but I was also kinda freaked out because… well, she’s a villain. And she’s only a a centimeter away from reconstructing a handheld superweapon. Though as Graballa suggests, she gonna have to do some explainin’ to her boss regarding all this property damage… but that’s not important right now. The Imperial Agent’s quest is almost complete. Everything that happens in the next few episodes will determine the very fate of the galaxy. *OMINOUS ENDING AGAIN*
Oh wow oh wow what an episode! So great I kinda messed it up at the end. I do regret to say this’ll be the last Following The Freemakers post for a while, since we’ll soon be reuniting with the Rebels. If I could I’d write about SW all day, but I can’t. But I’ll most definitely write on the next episode when I can. So thank you for joining me and let’s get hyped for SWR Season 3!

10 Awesome Moments From Exit From Endor

So I’m finally blogging on the first of the Lego Droid Tales saga! Sorry it took so long… there’s just been too much to talk about as of late! Now, I’m doing something a little different today, instead of writing a full-on commentary, I’m slimming it down to some of the episode’s most ingenious, funny, and clever moments! After all considering it’s a retelling of Episodes I and II retelling that just wouldn’t work. So let’s just get on with it already!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode I, Episode II, Episode III, Episode VI, The Empire Strikes Out, and Exit From Endor

Droid Tales is absolutely tons of fun, giving us the SW saga in a nutshell whilst peppering in great gags and poking fun at it (and at us as fans) in the best way! (Like, for example, all the gags thrown at the Prequel politics, which to be honest I find fascinating) Whether you’re new to SW or you’ve been loving it forever, it’s a sheer delight! Some new territory for Lego SW that works so perfectly! And so with my raving done, let’s cut to the chase to 10 of the most awesome moments from Exit From Endor!

1. Threepio Remembers!

I would say a good 80% of Droid Tales couldn’t possibly be canon, but there are some things I sure would like to believe really happened, like the fact Artoo had Threepio’s memory the whole time! I remember when I first heard about Droid Tales and I was confused as to why Threepio was telling said tales. Well, he’s pretty amazing at storytelling, as we see in Episode VI, but his memory loss was a bit of a problem. And I always felt bad that Threepio lost memory of all their grand adventures prior to the fall of the Republic, so there you go — a nice little bow tied at the end of all of this! 🙂

2. Best Name Ever…
Droid Tales Screencap 02
“What should I call you?”
“I’ve always been fond of the name ‘Kevin’.”
“Your name is C-3PO!”
Yup that’s the future Darth Vader… only nine and he’s already crushing dreams XP Droid Tales really has fun making the connection between little Ani and Vader quite a bit more obvious to a rather ridiculously hilarious point. This was probably my favorite of those moments… well, that and the “I didn’t do it by accident, I did it on purpose”! bit XD Also, note the Lego instruction sheet on the wall. PRICELESS.

3. Words Can Hurt You Know!
Droid Tales Screencap 03
“YOU ARE THE WORST BAD GUYS EVER!!” As if the “get this stunted slime out of my sight” line wasn’t harsh enough… 😛 Also, I love the callbacks to The Empire Strikes Out with Darth Maul. I love that he clearly knows how awesome he is. Forget revenge this is all about being awesome! If only his master got it… “You never let me be me!”

4. BIIIIIG RED FLAGS…
Droid Tales Screencap 04
“RED FLAGS! GET YOUR RED FLAGS HERE!” Pfff haha yeah I think we get it. But what the hooey he eventually destroyed the Emperor! Don’t blame Qui-Gon mkay?! The real question is why is Watto selling red flags? Probably because he can overcharge for ’em I bet.

5. They’ve Got This (Mostly)

I love how they played up the “we’ll handle this” line with all those petrified little Naboo soldiers making a run for it XD But perhaps they were smart to do so… Sith be scurrrry. Also, I love how they handled Qui-Gon’s noble end. I had no clue how Lego’s take on some of the more tragic or dark events would look like, but it worked well and it was honestly kinda funny the way it was played out, which is something I thought I’d never say about one of the most tear-inducing parts of the film. But hey that’s Lego for ya! ‘Course there was no problem knocking the legs off of Maul, that happens a lot to him as a minifig XD

6. THE HORROR!
Droid Tales Screencap 06
Anyone else read that line in Ziro The Hutt’s voice? Sorry wrong era. But yeah… “AHH!! A LITTLE KID!!” *Dies laughing*

7. Attack On The Clones

Well, that’s one way to avoid assassinations… XD XD Really this needs no further explanation, it’s just that funny.

8. Somebody Call For Me?
Droid Tales Screencap 08
“NOT YOU ARTOO HIM ARE TOO!” Great and powerful Michael Price, teach me your Lego-SW-writing ways! Though I imagine that drove the closed captioning people nuts…

9. OF COURSE I’M CALM LOOK AT MY FACE!!

“…Maybe if you tried acting calmer…”
I AM ACTING CALM!!!
They pretty much summed up all of Anakin’s dialogue in Episode II in that one sentence. Poor boy was all kinds of grumpy and angsty back then, wasn’t he? Aw we love you anyway man! Hehe this is possibly my favorite line in the whole episode XD

10. Ackbar’s Slightly-Not-That-Sweet Ride

I adore the whole thing with Ackbar oogling over his “Daisy Mae”, but I also love the fact that his old ship is up to its gills in takeout wrappers XD Hehe “up to its gills”… I made a Mon Cala joke XD And wow I just realized I’ve really overused the XD emoticon in this post… but how else do I capture how hard these jokes made me laugh? 🙂

Of course, this is only scratching the surface of the great jokes and moments in this episode, but I think I put together a nice variety of the wonderful wacky witticisms of this awesome Lego special! And I can’t wait for all the new Tales yet to be told!

The Han Movie, The App, and The Journey To The Force Awakens

So there’s been a number of exciting developments in the SW galaxy this past week that I figured I’d need to talk about. Don’t fret, a blog on Exit From Endor will come before long, just wanted to get my thoughts on these exciting pieces of news out there for your enjoyment 🙂
NOTE: This blog contains general spoilers you should already know having watched all the films and stuff. Nothing crazy, but I just wanted to let you know.

So obviously the first big thing to talk about is most definitely the news that the next Anthology film will be all about Han Solo! Unless you’ve been eaten by a giant space slug, this news is most likely already on your radar. The great Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will be directing and they’re as excited for this as we are! One of my most favorite characters is getting his own movie… it’s raining sunshine and everything is awesome!! I’ve loved the concept of the Anthology films since day one, excited to hear the stories surrounding the trilogies. It never crossed my mind, though, that they could tell more stories of the characters we already know and love, not just new characters like with Rogue One! One of the things I’m most intrigued about with this one is the idea of seeing a younger Han. At first I was like “but you can’t have Han without Harrison Ford!”, but then I remembered The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Sean Patrick Flannery did epicly at being a believable young Indy, so though most likely it won’t be him playing Captain Solo, it proves that finding a really great younger-self of Mr. Ford is possible. Plus, I mean, look at Ewan McGregor in the prequels! It continues to blow my mind as to how well he brought the “old wizard” to life thirty years before! He made me love Obi-Wan even more than I already did! (Speaking of, this really makes me want them to make an Obi-Wan-centered Anthology film like was rumored a while back. GET ON IT PEOPLE.) So I have no doubt whoever they choose to be young Han will be a fantastic choice. It’ll be so fun to see what he was up to before that fateful meeting at the Mos Eisley Cantina. Just as long as he doesn’t give Batman a ride to Naboo I think he’ll be OK XD Now… we wait until 2018… but on the bright side, we’ve got plenty of other SW movies to keep us satisfied until then. OK seriously is it not the greatest thing to know that we’ll have so many SW movies to see in the years to come?!?! 😀

And yes I definitely must briefly discuss the new Star Wars app! I find myself unfortunately without a smartphone at the moment but I will need to remedy that soon so I can get this beautiful app! Some of my favorite features? Obviously being able to take SW selfies is a big plus, the whole hologram-feel of the interface is stupid cool, the SW-themed weather forecasts are quite frankly the only way to check the weather in my opinion… the instant updates on SW news, the countdown to big events, the gif generator, the Jedi trainer… I’m pretty sure no app can out-cool this one! And just when you think it couldn’t get any better it’s free! So if you, unlike me, have a cool phone, get this thing! ‘Tis glorious! I might need to go ahead and get it on my computer just so I can have it on hand! In fact I’m doing it right now! Hehe I’m so hyped right now…

Of course one thing I really was excited to talk about is all the new books in the Journey To The Force Awakens line coming our way! Man, just the fact that we’re almost five months away from this and actually talking about the events that lead up to the film is mind-blowing. Just seeing R2-D2 and BB-8 on that Droid Factory book cover makes my head explode! To think we’re soon going to reunite with Artoo and meet this adorable BB before long… there is no better phrase to describe it than “mind-blowing”… either that or I’m in desperate need of a thesaurus right now. There’re tons of books on reference and fun stuff, but what’s really got me excited is all the stories told through the novels and comics. I like to think all my favorite SW stories are canon, long as they don’t outright negate something we know to be true, but there’s something amazing about knowing the characters we see on screen undeniably lived these stories and were shaped by these events, especially as we read stories that lead to Episode VII, like with Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath. There’ll be exciting battles (like in Aftermath), romance (as Lost Stars promises), adventure (with every single Jason Fry young readers’ tale), and all the things that we just plum love about Star Wars! A few years back I was nervous about reading all the SW novels out there because there were so many with so many different storylines that would conflict with one another, now I absolutely want to read every SW novel from here on out, because all of it is undeniably a chapter of this great big wonderful story. So yes get excited ’cause they’re on their way!

So yeah all this fantastic SW news has me feeling all the feels and so incredibly excited for the future! And who knows what else there is to discover as SDCC goes on and we get closer and closer to that wonderful day in December? Plus someone‘s got a new SW novel to read and prepare a blog on! I gotta tell ya… being a SW fan is like being on the biggest and best roller coaster and going on it over and over again! I only say that because right now I just wanna raise my hands up in the air and yell “WHEE!!” 😀
