The Long-Overdue Resistance Rises Post

When brainstorming possible posts to write this weekend, I realized I’d never taken the time to appreciate Lego’s The Resistance Rises shorts. I am remedying that today, because these are super-fun, super-clever, and even know how to bring some serious feels as we get to revisit the Force Awakens era in a whole new way! Let me share some of my favorite things about them as we watch.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode VII

POE TO THE RESCUE

The first of the shorts offers a really nice look at the (sort of) average daily life for the Resistance and the First Order before VII’s events. Starkiller Base has yet to make its first appearance, but Captain Phasma and Kylo Ren are still coming up with new ways to make things difficult for their enemies. But when you’ve got the crack team of Poe, Threepio, and BB-8 on your tail, the odds are not something you wanna hear 🙂

Assorted Fangirl Musings:
– Nice hearing Tom Kane’s narrator voice at a different time and place in the SW universe!
– Ackbar is a serious boss you guys. I don’t know how old he is, but he sure hasn’t slowed down! Wow did anyone else sort of just remember that he’s been through the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War and now all this stuff with the First Order vs. the Resistance? It’s almost unreal how much of Star Wars history he’s been involved in! Major respect points.
– (Mostly) acid rain-proof umbrellas. A must for any Resistance pilot! How did Threepio get out there though?? For an old droid, he gets himself into a lot of trouble! #Understatement
– Threepio, I think you may be the first person in the world to look at BB-8 and not be excited. But I guess since Artoo’s been out of commission a while, it’s easy to see how Threepio might’ve been bummed out those beeps and chirps were from a different astromech. Aww that just made me a shed a tear…
– Poe and Threepio’s dynamic is hilarious. I could seriously use more of these guys’ shenanigans in my life. The ace pilot and his general’s very-particular protocol droid! Comedy gold!
– Hey Threeps, for what it’s worth, I’d like to hear the story of that new arm of yours. I probably will once I start going through all those comics I’m severely overdue on reading. Until then, maybe R0-GR can help you write your autobiography! 🙂
– That graycoat really should’ve known better than to stand underneath a troop transport’s door #Fail #ButWhatAGloriousFailTho The fact his head got attached to the bottom of the door Lego-style made it all the funnier XD
– Boy they had a lot of prisoners. What’d they have against a wampa and a jawa?? Who knows? Probably Kylo Ren’s just annoyed by everything XP
– “Captain Phasma… you have failed me for the first time. Which is… weird. That’s never happened!” Love that he’s totally channeling his grandpa-senpai again. Also mad props to whoever’s voicing him. I wish these things had credits ’cause if I didn’t know better I’d think it was Adam Driver himself!
POE’S X-WINGGGGG GUYS. IT’S BEEN A WHILE SINCE I WATCHED THIS SHORT SO I FORGOT IT WAS IN THERE AND NOW I’M POSITIVELY GIDDY.

REY STRIKES BACK

Everyday life on Jakku looks to be nothing short of unforgiving and miserable. Episode VII already made that clear, but this short certainly drives the point home again. But Rey ain’t takin’ crud from no one today. Not from Plutt, not from Plutt’s cronies, and certainly not from any space cacti! I love her drive, determination, and outright sass in this short, as well as her impressive building skillz, as she takes on every blow this desolate world can deal her. There’s a reason she’s made it this long out here.

Assorted Fangirl Musings:
– “Nothing can flourish there, but a young scavenger named REY is certainly trying….” well-said, Mr. Kane!
– I gotta say, I think my favorite thing about this short is Kevin, Unkar Plutt’s precious pet space cactus and only friend. I just think about it and I die laughing. It’s good to know the guy has a soft spot for something besides money! Also, whenever I want to work on my Rey impression, “‘Kevin’? You gave your plant a name?”, is my go-to XD It’s all just so beautifully hilarious and perfectly Lego.
– Suddenly, Twilight remembers she has named plants before and realizes she’s the pot calling the kettle “black”.
– I love her speeder is like a bucking bronco with those thugs! Don’t mess with her fierce, noble steed!
– Guys! Throwing Lego bricks around is dangerous! Do you know how much those things hurt when their corners hit your skin?! Or when you step on one?! Or when you get your hair caught between them?! Things just got realllllll…
– Random thought: if it weren’t for the fact Luke’s going to be training her, I bet Rowan Freemaker would take her on as his apprentice. Girl can masterbuild!
HOLY MOS EISLEY, THAT’S THE GHOST OUT THERE. WITH MODIFICATIONS. I THINK. I COULD BE WRONG. BUT THIS IS CANON TO ME NOW. Someone from the original crew better be flying it though. I doubt General Syndulla would let some schnook steal it. Goodness this just got me thinkin’ on the Rebs’ futures something fierce. *Gets lost in thought for ten minutes pondering what fate may befall the Rebels in their last season* It could just be another ship of the same variety, but… you have to wonder.

HUNTING FOR HAN

Maz’s Castle looks like a fun place, even with its sometimes-frightening and untrustworthy clientele. Perhaps because its owner is so wise and welcoming and noble. But as we see in this short, for all the crazy crowds it attracts, there are always a few genuine souls who come through the Castle’s doors…

Assorted Fangirl Musings:
– You guys ever wonder where Maz finds this stuff? Avid eBayer I guess. And I’m sure having a professional career as a pirate helps you know where to find certain things…
– Knowing how this ends, why would anyone slap a “poisonous” sticker on a suitcase containing musical instruments? Well I guess Bala Tik’s got a reputation to keep. Bartering something so non-lethal would get a laugh out of the rest of the galaxy’s common criminals. That, or maybe certain species are actually negatively effected by the sounds of these space-saxophones, like maybe it makes their heads explode or something. Hmm…
– The “silver fox” comment cracked me up beyond belief. But it’s true… all of it!
– You have to wonder though if all of these incidents were really Han’s fault. I mean, sure he’s not doing the best with his life right now but it doesn’t mean he’s a complete scoundrel! Everyone’s just jealous ’cause they know they will never age that well XP
– “I heard Greedo shot first!” “THEM’S FIGHTIN’ WORDS!!” Oh boy, this again…? Guys. There are far more interesting debates in the world of Star Wars than that old argument.
– Wow can Maz use that lightsaber! She may have been saving it for someone special to find it someday, but it sure has its uses in the meantime!
– And aw yay Lando!! I love so much that, though he and Han seem to have gone different ways over the course of their lives, Lando still always has his buddy’s back. It gives me many feels. Wonder what the old smoothie’s been up to though? Y’know what, I bet he manages that casino Finn and Rose are gonna go on a mission to in VIII. That would be truly awesome. Either way, watching him play the space-sax with Maz Kanata is so sweet and gives me hope that Lando Calrissian’s doin’ all right, wherever in the galaxy he is 🙂

THE TROUBLE WITH RATHTARS

Possibly my favorite short in the bunch, we get to see an average everyday for Han and Chewie and the dangers of their recent business ventures, as well as a softer side to one of my favorite SW monsters.

Assorted Fangirl Musings:
– But why did Chewie let the rathtars out to begin with?? Did he feel sorry for them? I could see Chewbacca having some compassion on the poor giant squishy balls of death.
– OK and seriously, despite they’re being pursued by TIEs and they’ve got loose rathtars on board, Han is still handling this clunky ship like a dream.
– “That’s Dooku, Kitster, Lobot”??? Wizard code, bro XD
– Also Han rolling the window down is just so ludicrously hilarious, like OMG that’s so good. I’m convinced this freighter might’ve been rebuilt with some earth-made spare parts. It’s got side-view mirrors, seatbelts (evidently), and brakes! I’m pretty sure none of those things are normal, but hey spare parts are spare parts.
– Chewie lullabying the rathtars to sleep is literally too precious! I’ve always loved the rathtars, as they made a big impression on me as the first SW monster I saw on the big screen, but this short made me love them even more, ’cause really they’re just giant squishy sweethearts :3
– Even if they can and will eat your face any other chance they get.

ATTACK OF THE CONSCIENCE

A surprisingly deep little finale, we get a sense as to where Finn came from and the friends he’d made, and why it wasn’t just that first attack on Jakku that changed his mind on his stormtrooping career.

Assorted Fangirl Musings:
– WHOA THEY STILL HAVE AT-ATS! Do you think they finally figured out how to make ’em Jedi-proof?
– I like this concept of ‘trooper training looking like middle school soccer practice XD
– Wait. So they only fight fake Rebels, but with real detonators?? *Shoots a disapproving look at Phasma*
– I think the voice of Finn is also the voice of Zander Freemaker, and he’s doing awesome at it.
– “That’s Kylo Ren! He’s awesome!” “I know! He threatened to have me destroyed once!” “…WHAT?” Um yeah, this really ain’t soccer practice, FN-2187.
– I like that every time Finn starts questioning the plan, he lifts his helmet up, which we know is a major stormtrooper no-no. I’m sure the First Order taught the ‘troopers that they’re the good guys and everything they’re doing is for peace ultimately, but I’m glad that somehow, Finn has a broader moral compass that’s allowing him to see attacking a village as questionable. Guess he was out sick that one day they had the seminar on jerkiness.
– And boy… when you think about what’s about to happen from here… OH YOU POOR CHILD. YOU POOR, POOR CHILD. *Cries for Finn and his friend, too*
– But despite all the pain about to go down, Captain Phasma’s not wrong when she remarks “…your destiny awaits.”

So yeah aren’t those just great? I do so love me some Lego Star Wars! And since I haven’t discussed The Force Awakens as much I’dve like to, I’m glad I could immerse myself in this era again and hopefully start some interesting conversations as we get excited for the next chapter in this beautiful saga in only six more months!

Following The Freemakers: The Maker Of Zoh

Since the Ghost crew took last Saturday off, you know what that means… it’s back to the Freemakers! And the episode we’re digging into today just so happens to be one of my favorites (even though they’re all my favorites), The Maker Of Zoh! Grab a hot cup of motor oil kaffe and read on!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from The Clone Wars “Siege Of Mandalore” arc, Rebels episode Twilight Of The Apprentice, The Yoda Chronicles, The New Yoda Chronicles, and Freemakers episodes Crossing Paths, The Test, The Kyber Saber Crystal Chase, and The Maker Of Zoh

Things have been pretty tough for the Freemaker fam these last couple days. A certain dark side-wielding Imperial is to blame. But perhaps things might not’ve been so difficult had they known R0-GR’s transmission pack had a tracking device the whole time. Roger knew about it but never considered it might have been the source of Naare’s constant one-step-aheading. Unfortunately this discovery is too late to make much of a difference — the last crystal’s on Hoth and Naare already knows this. So it’s either the Freemakers go to Hoth and she kills them or they don’t go and she finds the crystal and the Emperor kills everyone. But there is a third option, and it’s on Zoh. Rowan recalls what Maz Kanata told him about this person they could go to when things got desperate, and I’d say this whole situation qualifies. The uninhabited trash planet doesn’t sound promising, but hey, it’s not Hoth! That’s already a win! Oh, we’re off to see the Maker, the wonderful Maker of Zoh! *shot*
At first glance, Zoh isn’t terribly spectacular, but as they land the StarScavenger, the Freemakers come upon a fascinating array of massive, eclectic, but incredible scrap sculptures towering above them. The rest of the crew’s not sure what to make of it, but Rowan’s got a good feeling about this… which doesn’t last long when suddenly droids rise from the mechanical refuse. Lots of droids, from super battle droids to astromechs to pit droids and all the others I can’t rightly name. And they don’t like the Freemakers’ presence here. Zander sends Roger out to speak to them, but the instant their skeptical leader eyes the battle droid’s dismembered transmission pack, everydroid and their brother pulls out their weapons on the humans. Surely they would’ve made quick work of the family… had a voice not commanded them to cease their fighting… a voice I felt I recognized from somewhere but wasn’t sure where. With a wave of his hand, the mysterious figure disassembles the boulder of scrap metal that nearly was used on Rowan. The being must be Force-sensitive, but I still couldn’t place who this was. But then his left hand… it glows blue with the pure power of four kyber crystals. I squee-gasped with surprise: IT’S JEK-14. JEK is the one these droids address as The Maker. Oh my gosh you guys this made me so insanely happy I could hardly breathe! Considering how close-to-canon The Freemaker Adventures is, I wasn’t sure if the events of previous Lego SW specials were canon in this near-canon-ness. OK I’m not sure that made sense. What I mean is, one of the things that stands out most about TFA compared to previous Lego SW is that they strive to keep it as true to Star Wars as it gets, with the exception of some fun Lego stuff here and there. The older ones weren’t bad or any less fun by any means, they just mostly kept it light and played around with a lot of jokes that don’t quite quite fit the canon. Because of this, I wasn’t sure if they would consider both The Yoda Chronicles and The Freemaker Adventures in the same boat. I mean, I always kinda did, as I consider most Lego SW stories canon and take it all as seriously as the rest of SW. But whatever the case, they brought JEK-14 back and in the most amazing way. Anyway, JEK apologizes to the Freemakers for his overprotective shootystabbycrushy friends. Bossdroid N-3RO argues he has a right to overreact, looking at the lightsaber wound on one of the super battles, but JEK gets mouse droid Fixer right on it. The old clone gives the young scavengers full reign to take whatever scrap they need, but it’s not scrap they need, it’s help. And seeing how The Maker is a Forcewielder, Rowan believes he can help him with his Jedi training. But that’s exactly what JEK doesn’t want to do. “But the fate of the galaxy is at state!” “That’s what they all say… ‘One last battle to end all battles’, but there’s always another.” OK this just got so deep and so real I can’t even.
Let’s talk a brief history of JEK-14 for a minute or two. JEK-14 began life as a full-grown clone trooper, enhanced by kyber crystals and intended as a Separatist weapon by Darth Sidious. His first words were “I am ready to fight… for the Sith”, and without question he used his own brand of Force lightning on Jedi masters Mace Windu and Yoda. However, when commanded to actually kill Yoda, he couldn’t do it. Both the Jedi and the Separatists wanted JEK on their sides, but JEK refused, and the Force-sensitive clone fled for Hoth, where he found solace in using the Force to build works of art. However, the Separatists found him and cloned his Forcewielding self until he was barely alive. Miraculously, JEK-14 fought back and destroyed the dark side clones. Ultimately he chose to leave on a peaceful note, but intent on never again getting involved with the war. He went from there to Endor, where he helped build things for the ewok community. When the Jedi needed help, they sought him out, and it was only the kindness and innocence of Yoda’s padawans that convinced him to do so. In fact, had he not had such good relations with the younglings, far worse things might’ve happened. Some years later at the end of the Clone Wars, Yoda’s padawans convinced him to come back and help them get back the holocrons from the Jedi Temple. I don’t know for sure what he was doing in the time in between, but as I noticed watching this episode, the decorative clasp on his outfit has the Mandalorian beast-skull icon on it. Hehe I was actually right when I surmised he might’ve gone there! He clearly spent some time one what he assumed was a peaceful world, probably to be highly disappointed when the Siege of Mandalore occurred right before the war’s end. It was thanks to him that the Jedi made it safely offworld, and with the holocrons that Obi-Wan intended to use to train Luke someday. JEK spent the next 20 years in peace on Naboo before Yoda summoned him to Tatooine, where he would briefly join the fight against the Empire. He helped the Alliance for some time, before finally leaving them likely after they established their base on Hoth. And now, he’s made a home on Zoh, where he has all the building material he could ever want, all the friends he could ever need, and no one on his doorstep asking him to fight their battles. Until now. It’s only when Rowan explains how the Sith used him that JEK puts his pride and hurt behind him. Because once upon a time, the clone was used the same way. He’s not a Jedi, but he decides he will teach Rowan everything he knows about the Force. The Freemakers’ll be hanging out here for a while looks like. But N-3… bro’s not a fan…
Meanwhile, Graballa’s fleet was waiting outside Hoth. And waiting… and waiting… and waiting some more. Naare knows they’ll come. Graballa, however, is bored out of his mind. Both get slightly more than they bargained for though when their bosses come on the holo. Naare and Graballa are two very different varieties of scum and villainy, but the one thing they both have in common is that, for all their scum and villainy, they’re still pretty low on the food chain. Jabba doesn’t approve of his cousin’s latest harebrained scheme and Sidious is (as per usual) quickly running out of patience waiting for that Kyber Saber. Unsurprisingly, both Hutt and Imperial Agent are unsuccessful in convincing their higher-ups of their plans. We’re reminded in this scene that there are greater evils at work here and it’s terrifying. I do find it interesting that Naare approaches the Emperor this time not irritated or angry, but honestly kind of… afraid. Many times before, she’s addressed him with a prideful confidence we often see in second-rate darksiders, but it’s almost as though something happened recently to shake that foundation a little. Perhaps Sidious did something to remind her of her place, and what consequences await her if she fails. Maybe I’m reading into this too much, but if you’ve been reading these TFA posts for any length of time, you know I do a lot of that. But can you blame me? They are telling great stories here and I’m super curious about the things left unstated! But yah she feels ya, Graballa.
Watching JEK-14 training Rowan is basically one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in my life. Like seriously. JEK has always been amazing with kids, and seeing him teaching his understanding of the Force to Rowan his just… wow. It’s something real special. I love his angle on the Force: the dark side destroys, but the light side creates. It’s a really great unique angle that feels appropriately Lego but also perfectly Star Wars. A very tangible point of view that perhaps no other Jedi master could offer… one that could only be explained by a Force-sensitive clone trooper who desired only to create. And perhaps someday Rowan will take these lessons and impart them on another young Forcewielder. FEELS FEELS FEEEEELS. Buuuuut again… N-3 is not a fan. The bossdroid’s convinced that The Maker might join the Freemakers and leave them if something’s not done. And if he leaves, they’ll be back to being useless, purposeless scrap. That does bring up a good question: do they truly see JEK as their friend and simply don’t want him to leave, or are they concerned mostly about being purposeless? Or are they concerned that, without The Maker, they will be have no one to protect them from any scavenger looking for a few spare parts? Or maybe it has something to do with him being “The Maker”, in that to the droids, he’s kind of a deity. IDK Maybe I missed something but any way you spin it it’s an interesting thought. N-3 is a very very desperate droid… and also very very convincing.
Elsewhere, Zander and Kordi hadn’t had much luck salvaging. Not a useful piece of junk in sight, it seems. Roger was trying to help, but after nearly crushing them with a toppled junk sculpture, the sibs give him the slip. It’s then when N-3RO makes his move, inviting his fellow “unappreciated” droid brother for a nice long oil bath. N-3 suggests that, perhaps, the battle droid should remain on Zoh, in paradise, away from ungrateful, uncaring masters who’d eventually scrap him. R0-GR won’t allow himself to believe the Freemakers would ever do such a thing, but considering recent events, there’s perhaps a niggling of doubt. Oh poor sweet Rogerrrr… 😦 Whatever the case, N-3RO’s got other plans for Roger’s masters… plans like leading Zander and Kordi into a trap.
So Rowan’s lessons were going quite well, thanks to JEK, he was able to construct a perfect speederbike out of spare parts. Which, true to his nature, Ro immediately hopped on and rode off. With a smile, JEK-14 follows on his own construction. Again AHHH I LOVE THIS. If Luke doesn’t become his official master then JEK totally should! It’s a good thing Rowan and JEK went for a ride, though, because they soon found Kordi and Zander chained up with a half a TIE hovering above their heads. N-3R0 insists that these trespassers have corrupted The Maker’s mind and that he’s doing the right thing by destroying them. Rowan expertly puts together a crate to shield them and attaches it to the speeders to get them to safety. Now if he and his master can stop the revolt without destroying the droids or getting killed themselves, it’llve been a good day! The two hold their own really well for a while, but when Rowan gets captured and JEK in turn lets his guard down, the droids get the better of them all. Roger returns from his oil bath to find his masters surrounded at all ends as N-3 has decided to “deactivate” them all, including JEK, who he now considers “beyond saving” O.O The bossdroid promises Roger complete freedom once the humans are out of the way. However, the old clanker’s come to a different conclusion. N-3 tried to convince him that the Freemakers’ frustration with him would ultimately end in a garbage disposal, but Roger has no doubts where he stands with his masters, because they’re not just masters, they’re family. In families, people make mistakes, they get mad at each other, but temporary frustration doesn’t turn their bond into scrap; they forgive each other, they love each other, they fight for each other. He might be a droid, but first and foremost he’s a Freemaker. And he takes that transmission pack with the family insignia on it and puts it back on. Now those droids are gonna have a whole ‘nother problem to deal with. OK I’m sorry I botched that moment but it’s truly amazing how strongly Roger cares for his family. In the past, he’s had a tendency to come off a little… I hate to say “jerky”, so let’s just say… “highly opinionated” with the Freemakers’ decisions and ideas. Oh wait “self-centered” that was the word I was looking for! Yeah he sometimes comes off like he cares more about himself than the others, but in his heart he truly considers them family, and he loves them even if they sometimes get on his nerves and force him into dangerous adventures… and vice versa 🙂 But oh yeah now here comes Graballa’s ship! Nuts I wish I knew its name so I wouldn’t have to keep calling it just “Graballa’s ship”. In the midst of the chaos, the Freemakers are able to make their escape. JEK remains behind to protect the droids, even after all they’ve done. But that’s not the last noble thing he’ll be doing today. Just as the Freemakers got out of the frying pan, they walked into the fryer as Naare pulled her red-blade out on them. Rowan was ready to take her on, whatever it took, but JEK-14 stood between them, urging Rowan and his family to go on. Oh man I’m getting all teary-eyed writing this. As Naare addressed him as the “failed experiment”, my respect for her dropped a few points. It’s an amazing duel though, as she fights with her lightsaber, while JEK fights with nothing but the pure Force running through his blood. He creates obstacles to throw in her way, but she just as easily tears these structures apart. Had this been a fair fight, I believe JEK was the stronger of the two, even without formal training. But it was not so… using every inch of darkness in her soul, Naare began to form a mountain of refuse around the clone. Rowan watched in horror as The Maker of Zoh was slowly buried in the scrap. Before going down, JEK called out to his apprentice “Trust in the Force. Be a builder, Rowan!” and I started bawling here, crying out “HE DONE PULLED AN ‘AHSOKA’!!” Because of JEK-14’s sacrifice, the StarScavenger was able to get offworld and away from their enemies’ grasp. Over the transmission pack, Rowan makes very clear to Naare that he will be getting that final fragment. JEK not only taught Rowan a new understanding of the Force, but I believe he’s also heavily inspired bravery in his apprentice, and in the rest of the Freemakers as well, in their most desperate hour.
On Zoh, a recently reconstructed N-3RO (post being blasted by Graballa’s fleet) wakes up to a world without The Maker… and also a restraining bolt because bro was well overdue for one of those. BL-OX now knows they never should’ve listened to him, as now, their master is no more. I started getting weepy again as I recalled all of the amazing things JEK had done and the incredible man he was. And then…
An arm shot out of the scrap.
The spark of the Force still electric in his veins, a blaze of pure Force shoots from his hand.
JEK LIVES.

So I basically drowned in feels the rest of the day. Happy feels that JEK is alive. Sad feels that Rowan believes he lost his friend. Nostalgia feels from seeing JEK again. Really all the feels. I so so much love this episode and, again, this series. It felt awesome writing about them again. And I certainly will soon! Whenever the Rebs go on hiatus I’ll bring some more Freemaker follow-ups until I hit the season finale! As long as I live and breathe I’m never gonna wanna stop talking about Star Wars 😀

Following The Freemakers: The Test

It’s Freemaker time again! And have we got a lot to talk about today! So that’s why I’m cutting short the usual long rambly opener so we can study The Test together 🙂 Hehe yeah if Star Wars were a school subject, I’d be acing it! Well maybe not acing it acing it, considering the times I misunderstand stuff and misspell stuff but hopefully I’d at least be getting a B+…
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode II, Episode VII, Rebels episodes Always Two There Are and Brothers Of The Broken Horn, and Freemakers episodes A Hero Discovered, Peril On Kashyyyk, Race On Tatooine, and The Test

I remember writing a while back that, though I was really enjoying the often-humorous daily tension of who Naare really was vs. who the Freemakers thought she was, I was kinda terrified as to what would happen when the other shoe would drop. Because the instant they found out who she really was… ooooh boy… things were gonna get really real. It was a beautiful day on The Wheel and it seemed nothing was out of the ordinary. Until Naare rang the doorbell and the Freemakers wouldn’t open it. Unfortunately when one wields a lightsaber doors don’t typically stay closed for long. I’d stupidly half-expected the Darksider-next-door to walk right into a surprise party… but as she catches the family in the process of packing their bags, it’s evident she no longer has the fan club she had last episode. Because ROWAN KNOWS. And wielding her red-blade, it’s clear his family knows too. “…the Jedi are all gone. Destroyed… by people like me.” I can’t express how much that line terrified me. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHERS SHE HAS DECEIVED. AND KILLED. Naare is basically an unofficial inquisitor. I’d theorized she might’ve been trained by inquisitors but I had no idea she’d done this before. All I can say is she is one very scary lady. *Shudders* But Rowan’s not alone in this fight, because he has Kordi and Zander (and technically R0-GR too but let’s be honest he’s not all that helpful right now). They’re somehow able to board the StarScavenger just in time, but their foe literally Force-grabs the ship. Comparably it took two inquisitors just to grab the considerably-smaller Phantom back on Rebels. Good night she’s powerful. I’m guessing that was a trick the higher-up Darksiders taught her. But Rowan also knows that it’s hard to keep your concentration when someone’s firing at you and mans the guns. Which it then occurred to me “oh right their ship does have a weapons system.” They hadn’t really shot anything I don’t think since the Imperial freighter in the pilot so for some reason I’d forgotten they could at all. I’m thinking just as a whole they don’t shoot at people if they feel they really don’t have to, which says something about this beautiful family’s morals. But yeah I think they have full license to shoot at Naare right now. But if you think for a second that that’s going to stop this Sith-y sort you’re dead wrong. ‘Cause now here comes the Eclipse fighter! And she’s enjoying blasting their ship wayyyy more than she should. After a few perilous turns, Naare sends them a holo, making a deal that I guarantee she’ll alter further. Zander calls no deal and charges the Eclipse dead-on, which masterfully tears her ship apart. Is it wrong I applauded? Naare challenges them, promising she’ll come after them if they don’t just destroy her now. They had the opportunity and all the reason in the galaxy to do so, but Zander simply sends the StarScavenger into hyperspace. Like I was saying, the Freemakers have more morals than most these days. And seeing Zan step up like this is really great. It obviously stung for him to realize his crush is an absolute monster, but when the lives of his brother and sister are in question, he knows where his true loyalties lie. But even then, after all she’s done, he still doesn’t take the shot. Blasting people is just not the way he rolls, even when certain people don’t deserve that kind of mercy. ZANDER FREEMAKER YOU ARE AN AMAZING PERSON. ‘Course, Roger knew all along she wasn’t trustworthy, just by his past experience with Jedi, “the bad guys of the Clone Wars”. Zander and Kordi set him straight by explaining a) Naare’s not a Jedi and b) technically battle droids were “the bad guys”. Roger is horrified and literally deletes the last few minutes from his memory so he never heard such a thing. OK so that answers a lot of questions about battle droids and free will. I guess it turns out they were just an extremely loyal bunch who never once thought that maybe they were doing the wrong thing, even when their superiors were killing innocents and being all-around jerks. Fascinating. But of all the Freemakers, Rowan’s the one hurting the most right now. Naare had made him feel special, making him believe he would be a great Jedi and hero. Now, he doesn’t believe he’s any of those things. I about started bawling there NUUUU DON’T SAY THAT LET ME HUG YOU CHILDDDD! But before Kordi can say anything their ship’s damage throws them out of hyperspace and they find themselves crash-landing. Zander does bring up a good point do starships actually have brakes? And if they don’t, why don’t they? But I found myself taking note how very green this planet is… and also oh look there’a castle right there. Wait are we on Takodana?? Otherwise known as one of my favorite new SW planets?? Oh right they were crash-landing. Well the good news is they managed to come to a stop without utterly destroying anything! “ZANDER FREEMAKER: SUPERSTAR PILOT GUY!” Pfff the looks Kordi and Rowan shot him I died laughing. “Only in your mind, my very young apprentice.” XD Oh right usually when someone gives you the good news there’s usually some bad news that follows. The bad news is, though they didn’t utterly destroy anything, they did slightly dent a ship and its crew was none too happy. And guess who its owner was? HONDO. OHNAKA. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH #OHNAKAFEVER IS REALLLLLLLL AGAIN. So I’m figuring things’ll go OK at this point, ’cause these days the old pirate’s a decent guy, right? Welp um… you see… back in Rebels, Hondo was on his own and didn’t have a crew or a ship or anything. So being a decent guy was kind of all he could do. Now as you might notice he has a ship and a crew and that crew has I think Grumgar on it so… Captain Ohnaka is back in business. And he’s got a pirate-y reputation to keep. Gotta say it was a really genius move to make Hondo more of the bad guy again after we’ve kinda gotten used to his nice-ish self in Rebels. But either way, I love him and I love seeing him finally make his way to the Lego SW side of things. Besides, we’ve got MAZ KANATA to keep him in check. Oooh my gracious goodness I’m sorry I haven’t really had a chance to talk about Maz much these days but she is so so so so awesome. The Pirate Queen ain’t takin’ any sass from one of her “subjects”! Especially not Captain Ohnaka here. Can I just say seeing Maz and Hondo in the same room is one of the most wonderful things I’ve ever seen in my life? Seriously. Her bossladyness up against his roguish charm is a delight. As long as Hondo’s still making mischief in SWR, I’d sure like to see him run into Maz again while we’re at it. Anyway, so Maz insists Hondo work it out with the kids peacefully, and so he decides to give them a little job. But as he fills the Freemakers in, Rowan finds himself drawn to something in the castle… I admit I kinda forgot about the Kyber Saber crystals for a second and thought “Wow did she have Luke’s old ‘saber already? Wait a darn second only Rey’s allowed to find that!” by the end of the episode everything made sense though. Maz is curious what it is he was seeking. Though I wouldn’t put it past her that she might already know. I mean, she is Maz Kanata after all. She just knows things. Augh I need to watch The Force Awakens again hurry up and release already 3D Deluxe Blu-Ray!! So the job is simple: grab a few golden orbs from Takodana’s third moon and bring ’em back. Simple enough, if they can survive the trip, ’cause all they’ve got to get there is their little scavenger-scooper thing. And with three people and a droid in there, there’s not much elbow room. And for anyone who’s ever traveled in a packed vehicle (including myself), you know that the drive is half the battle.
As for Naare, she had no choice but to land the Eclipse back in the Freemakers’ hangar. And just as soon as she got there, Graballa and his gang show up. She absolutely don’t need their crud right now and sends that message via lightsaber-ing and Force-throwing. The Hutt’s completely fine with calling it quits at this point. But once Naare sees they both want the same thing, she sees a new opportunity. They fix her fighter and she’ll give them half the crystals. And they’ll even work together to find Rowan. Sounds like a plan! Sure it’s not a plan that will likely end well for Graballa, knowing how Naare works, but it’s still one plan more than anyone else has right now. Yeah this will most definitely a problem for our heroes. And whether you’ve seen how the season ends or not, you just know…
Yep that little scooper is not by any means a family vehicle. I’m not sure it should be even allowed for space travel with four individuals in it. Good thing that moon was right nearby ’cause then it probably would’ve gone a lot worse… and that’s saying something. So they find their sinkhole where the orbs were supposed to be, but they also found a large herd of VARACTYLS. Remember a few blogs ago when I briefly fangirled over the presence of a varactyl in the dejarik game but remembered varactyls aren’t a playable creature in any other dejarik game we’ve ever seen so I just assumed my fangirliness was making me see things? Well, first of all, I watched that episode again and found out I was right to begin with. Second of all AHAHAHHAHHAAAA LOOK AT ALL THE PURTY VARACTYLLLLLLS!!! And they’re so detailed! So much more detailed than previous Lego versions! Thank you Lego SW for giving more of these amazing feathery reptiles, thank you! Although I would be quick to run over and hug them all, the Freemakers are a little more concerned because they’d rather not get eaten. Zander decides their best move is to wait until nightfall and grab the orbs while they sleep. The plan from there is for Kordi and Zander to lower Roger into the sinkhole while Rowan keeps an eye out for trouble, a job that both Roger and Ro aren’t thrilled about. Kordi felt it was best Rowan get an easier job after all that’s happened, but I can’t help but think this whole job might’ve gone easier had they had someone other than their three-fingered droid getting the goods. Especially when Kordi decides they should grab a few extra for themselves. It doesn’t take long for him to drop the orbs and awaken the beasts. And them beasts ain’t happy whatsoever. With the scooper falling apart and Roger torn to pieces, it looks like Rowan’s all they’ve got left. With only the red-blade by his side, Rowan takes a spectacular leap of faith and of Force as he rushes in to defend his family. However, not long after he gets down there, he starts to sense what the varactyls are feeling, and it’s a feeling he can relate to. The pain of uncertainty. The fear of loss. But also the fierce love of family. These orbs are eggs, and for all their desperation to survive, and their own fear and pain, the Freemakers aren’t about to let their gain be someone else’s loss. FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELS. Also OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH BABY VARACTYLS!!!! THEY’RE SO TINEH AND THEY MEW LIKE KITTENS OHMYGOSH I CAN’T IT’S TOO PRECIOUS. X3 X3 X3 THANK YOU LEGO STAR WARS THANK YOU SO MUCHHHH ❤ ❤ *Falls to knees sobbing with joy* It's like they know what I'd like to see in SW before I even do. Anyway, so as the new varactyl families play together, Kordi makes clear to her little brother that he was wrong about himself — "You are special. You’re the most special kid in the whole galaxy!” and so all of the family feels going on sent me into a coma of warm fuzzies. But I didn’t stay that way for long because I still needed to know what the Freemakers’ next move was. Yeah Hondo knew they were eggs, and he wasn’t terribly thrilled he didn’t get any because they could’ve gotten him some mighty fine creds. Remind me never ever to cross Captain Ohnaka when he’s got a crew because before they knew it, our heroes were surrounded at all ends by blasters O.O That’s about when a flying cup smacked Hondo in the head. Maz has a serious problem with Hondo taking advantage of a bunch of kids and smacks him with glassware and mugs until he and his crew finally vamoose. You go, Pirate Queen! Good seeing ya Hondo. Even if this wasn’t one of your more shining moments 😛 I hope to see you again soon! Just maybe as an ally next time, mkay? Anyhow, Maz does her awesome thing and decides to help out our heroes. She literally pulls the exact part they need out of a set of drawers. She’s amazing, but you knew that. And then… out of a heavily-locked set of drawers, she hands Rowan a Kyber Saber fragment. I think it’s safe to say, yeah, she knew what he was looking for all along. With that, she sends the Freemakers on their way. But not before giving Ro a small piece of advice — to seek out the Maker of Zoh when things get desperate. The youngest Freemaker isn’t sure what that means, but I know from experience… when Maz Kanata tells you something, you better remember it 🙂
Oh yes I just love this one! Another exceptional adventure loaded with excitement and laughs and feels and basically everything! I’d keep going on about how much I love the show and this episode but I figure you’re bored with me by now so I’ll just stop talking.

Celebration Europe Excitement!

Next to film release day, there are few more thrilling days of the year than Star Wars Celebration! I felt bad that I didn’t talk about last year’s events as much as I should’ve. So this year, I’m going to write down a fangirly paragraph or two on every panel I’m able to catch! So get excited!! I’ll be updating this post as things happen.
NOTE: As far as spoilers are concerned… depends on the panel I’m talking about. Just in general you should’ve seen all the movies and the shows and stuff. And the panels too.

Let the nerding out begin!

AHSOKA’S UNTOLD TALES
Words can’t describe how fun, exciting, and feely this panel was. But I’m gonna try anyway ’cause that’s why I’m here. Just… OMG wow! We see Ahsoka riding a giant wolf and leading the Clones into battle and fighting Darth Maul and reuniting with old friends and making some new friends (at least this Nix guy anyway hehe) and pretty much just winning at everything. Beautiful concept art, a delightful storyreel clippy, and a few of the amazing people behind them… all in the same room. SO WIZARD. The panel answered some questions that needed answering and gave us the slightest beautiful little promise we might might might might see her again. Also that book. Can’t wait for that book. The excitement is electric bro. Funny story in that first sketch of Ahsoka and Nix I’ll be honest I thought that was Han for a moment XD That would be an interesting story though…

ILM SW ARCHAEOLOGY
Wasn’t 100% certain what this panel was about until I started watching it and DANGGG IT IS SO COOL! Got to learn a little what goes into recreating what we see in Episode IV for Rogue One. Can only imagine how painstaking a job that is so I applaud you heartily, ILM! Stormtrooper helmets, Star Destroyers, the Death Star… all beautifully nostalgic but beautifully new at the same time! Just taking a closer look at the Rogue One teaser again I’m astounded at the detail! And Doug Chiang talking about miniatures and card models and matte paintings?? SO COOL. The work they put into these films, again, is incredible. Oh! And the stuff they did on The Force Awakens too! This is actually the first time since that sizzle reel from a year ago I’ve really gone behind the scenes on VII, at least in a featurette/documentary sense, anyway. Yes I’m dumb and don’t have the Blu-Ray yet. Anyway, as a whole this entire panel re-reminded me what a massive amount of work goes into making these films, as well as how amazing these ILM folks are. Ahh the technology and artistry behind SW always makes me giddy :3 Also, ❤ that moonwalkin' trooper!

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY
I’m so so sorry I haven’t talked more about my excitement for this film. I mean, when those photos came out the “Rogues” were all I could think about, but I had other things to blog about so I wasn’t able to give it the attention it deserves. Certainly there will be plenty of times between now and December to talk about it, and then for the rest of my life afterward, but hopefully I’ll be able to get some thoughts out in the post today. First my gosh isn’t Gwendoline Christie such a fun host?! She made this panel even more delightful than it already was! Captain Phasma may be all business but IRL she’s an excited fan like the rest of us! I suppose that’s not too surprising because not many people working on SW these days aren’t fans from the get-go but it’s cool all the same 🙂 Anyway, it’s truly amazing how everything fell together and how Rogue One began. And the folks working on bringing to life are truly amazing as well. Wow I’m just stating the obvious aren’t I? But it’s true! All of it! *SHOT* 😛 The energy in the room when the cast came out was just on fire, and Ben Mendelsohn coming out on stage in full regalia?? I know it’s been said before but WHOAAA he just OWNED IT. Never has a white suit and cape looked so dastardly and so classy at the same time! And of course the sizzle reel was beyond fantastic. There were too many great shots, but it was often the sweet little moments that stood out to me the most in some ways. Jyn handing the fruit to the villager for one (tough girl got heart awwz!). Seeing droids and several different species was awesome. I mean, I love that the main cast is mostly human, as it further exemplifies this idea of ordinary people making an extraordinary difference, but I’m glad we get to hang out with a few nonhumans along the way too, like that floofy white dude :3 All that beautiful old-meets-new imagery in general! Honestly I loved it all and I hope I’ve made that point very clear. The whole cast is just awesome, I’ll just go ahead and say that. After reading up on the characters and seeing their photos on EW, the fangirl gears didn’t stop turning. Each of them so unique, all sort of outcasts who come together ultimately for a common purpose, I couldn’t wait to meet them all. Fun fact, Chirrut is currently the one I have the most questions about, well maybe he and Saw are tied… anyway, I look forward to sharing those thoughts at a later date. But getting to see the actors portraying them and getting a further idea of their characters’ stories makes me love them even more than before. Also K2 is perfect, but you knew that XD And howzabout that poster tho?! It’s gorgeous!! It’s just all kinds of wow all around! Similar to feelings I had last year, I can’t tell if this has made it easier to wait, since I’m getting to learn more, or harder to wait, since I’ve still gotta wait until December to see it all. Either way, hype thrusters are GO!!

STAR WARS REBELS
After glimpsing Ezra’s new look earlier this week, I have to say the SWR panel was possibly the most highly anticipated for me. Not to say any of the other panels weren’t highly anticipated, but the majority of questions and queries on my mind lied with the fate of the Ghost family. And of course, the panel didn’t disappoint. Loved seeing Warwick Davis and Dave Filoni again, and Tiya Sircar and Sam Witwer were great. Seeing Mr. Witwer was a bit of surprise for me, since I had no clue he would be involved in the next season. Somehow I figured he’d go find someone else’s life to mess up somewhere else in the galaxy, but nope bro ain’t finished yet. (EDIT I hope it was clear I was talking about Darth Maul and not Sam Witwer in this sentence. YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG MR. WITWER!!) But it’s exciting and intriguing all the same. Everything goin’ on is exciting and intriguing. I mean… wow! For one, yay I called it Sabine finally gets that jetpack! Probably not accidentally purchased from someone who stole from Boba Fett, but still IT’S A JETPACK!! Everybody’s looking good with their new looks. Though I’ll always remember Ezra for his long hair, his short cut gives him a slightly more mature look for this chapter in life as he grows up, kind of sort of Luke-ish. Kanan has more fuzz now and that’s cool XD And of course Sabine gives me major hair envy as per usual. And then there’s that little thing with a dude named Thrawn… as you may know, I haven’t read Heir To The Empire and really anything by Timothy Zahn aside from an Insider short story. But I have heard of Thrawn, and as a fan of Ryder Windham’s Clone Wars Secret Missions series, I already think the Chiss species is awesome, so it makes me happy to know not only that Thrawn is now officially canon, but that his species is too 🙂 And thanks to his involvement in Rebels, I’ll likely make a point to read the classic novel sometime soon. So no questions I’m excited about season 3! But along with that excitement, there’s also some fear too… because honestly man I have no clue if anyone’s gonna make it out of this alive. That’s what I was thinking about last year, too, but danggg I don’t know how they keep finding new ways to up the ante, but they always do and they always deliver. And that’s just one of those things I love about Rebels and SW as a whole 🙂 Oh yeah and YESSSSSSS MAZ KANATA NEEDS TO MAKE IT INTO REBELS SOMEDAY!!

THE FREEMAKER ADVENTURES
Only got to read the liveblog on this one, but still good solid stuff. They may be Legos but these guys as Lucasfilm take them seriously as serious can get! So yay/aw situation: I was right about Zander’s age, not right about Kordi. Kordi is middle child, not the firstborn like for some reason I got into my head, but that makes her bossladyness all the more impressive. Why yes I do think about these things! Thank you for noticing. Oh it must’ve been great to hear Matthew Wood speaking as Roger for the audience! Y U NO STREAM THIS??? I do love they communicate with Leland Chee to make it as believably canon as they can get, ’cause aside from the occasional Lego self-awareness and SW jokes it’s canon in my mind. And yesss the idea of the Rebs running into the Freemakers… that would be a lot of fun… assuming anyone lives after this next season… OmO Good stuff tho! Those minifigs are my children! :3

STAR WARS PUBLISHING
Great great stuff is coming in the book world. No need for me to tell you that though. A whole collection of McQuarrie art! The Complete Locations! The beautifully-illustrated storybooks! And seriously why are we Yanks not able to read the Adventures In Wild Space series yet?? We better be able to soon ’cause you know I’m not missing out on a single canon chapter of this saga! (Or any chapter really) Either way, with stuff like this coming out, SHUT UP AND TAKE MAH MONEYYYYZ!!

RAY PARK
So this was really the first time I got to meet the man behind the Maul. I honestly didn’t know all that much about him (just my fault for not watching more of the featurettes 😛 ), but I absolutely adore him now. He is literally one of the nicest people I’ve ever seen! Watching him pal around with Warwick and teach fans both young and old his moves was fantastic. Gave me some feels when he personally answered the shy little boy’s question, and in the best way :3 And it’s really cool he’s still keeping up with and enjoying Maul’s further misadventures. SWC never fails to remind me that the people behind the magic of Star Wars are as amazing as the saga itself! Plus, the whole thing made me wish I knew some martial arts. Need to work on that…

Honestly there are too many things to talk about. So much talent, so much creativity, so much joy, so much passion… you could see that in everyone there, fan and filmmaker alike. The future of SW is looking so so bright, and I am beyond thrilled to see what comes next ❤

And don't worry. If I didn't cover something here, I'll likely talk about it in future posts. Can't wait 'til the next big reason to celebrate!

Clash Of The Skywalkers: A Closer Look

So with a little less than a month before we meet the Freemakers (*giddily fangirling*), I figure we should get the Closer Looks on the New Yoda Chronicles wrapped up ’bout now. And now, a little Lego SW for your Thursday 🙂
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode I, Episode IV, Episode VI, Episode VI, Episode VII, Rebels episode Shroud Of Darkness, The Empire Strikes Out, Menace Of The Sith, Escape From The Jedi Temple, Race For The Holocrons, Raid On Coruscant, and Clash Of The Skywalkers.

I still do find it fascinating they chose to end the Chronicles with a seventh chapter instead of a sixth or a ninth, and to make it a cliffhanger on top of it! But somehow it works anyway, and it’s still funny, clever, exciting, and sweet the way all Lego Star Wars is. Anyway, so we open with lots and lots of TIE fighter traffic. Hehe those pilots may be ruthless to Rebels, but at least they’re courteous to each other! Vader be like *facepalm* XD They’re in a bit of a rush today, you see… they’re looking for a certain Skywalker who maaaaay have helped destroy all their precious holocron intel a short time ago and a certain Emperor maaaaaay not be happy. Despite the rocky start, the Darth’s on his a-game today ’cause he quite immediately clashes with young Skywalker as he surveys Imperial space. Poor Luke hardly stood a chance it seems as Darth Vader downs his X-wing in about four seconds. Le gasp! Has the dark lord finally won?? And then, amidst the wreckage, Artoo casually saunters over to JEK-14’s stealth ship and we find that Luke was a holograph all along! (Or would that be hologram? I always get them mixed up… either way it’s a holo, I guess) Can’t believe they didn’t take the opportunity to have Ackbar say “IT’S A WRAP!“, but I guess they already did that in The Padawan Menace so it’s OK. Yeah even the masters were a little spooked by the fake-out “I’m a ghost and I still sweated through my robe!” TMI, OBI-WAN…!
So with Vader finally off their tails, the Rebs can finally get off Mustafar and get to their new permanent base. Also, I know I probably should’ve said this by now, but one thing I love about the Lego universe is getting to see characters from the OT hanging out on worlds from the PT. It makes for some really fun stories and is a further reminder that everything is connected and it all exists in the same galaxy. But I’ve rabbit-trailed. So though this is supposed to be a victory, Luke feels it’s a bit of a hollow one, as he much rather’dve defeated Vader for reals. Leia encourages him to be patient as the important thing right now is to lay low, but Luke definitely has a case of the mopes.
‘Course he’s not the only one having a bad day. Han is not a fan of the new base. AT. ALL. Understandable, ’cause it’s Hoth. I mean, it’s great that it’s far from the eyes of the Empire, but that weather though… I mean, Chewie’s done frozen solid! Yeeees Han I would say he’s cold XP
However, I’d say Darth Vader’s having a great day! STORMTROOPAH CONGA LINE EVRAHBODYY!! Needless to say, a couple Imperials aren’t thrilled about bursting his bubble that Luke might’ve not’ve been onboard that X-wing to start with. Vader seems to take it rather well at first… and then retreats to his personal chamber to have a hissy fit that’d make his grandson proud XD If it weren’t for the fact he needed help fixing his chamber afterwards I’m pretty sure his ‘troopers would equally be all “NOPE”.
Oh yeah, I love the callback to Menace Of The Sith with the “Echo Base Jedi Educational Center” sign. Honestly the idea that the Jedi had claimed the base first is really cool and it oughta be no-questions canon. ‘Course maybe it is by now there’s a lot of recent literature I haven’t read yet. Another thing we learn is that Chewie isn’t a fan of celery. The things you can learn from these specials! It’s the little details about their lives that are often the most fascinating 🙂 And oh yeah we also learn THERE’S A WAMPA IN THE BASE! WAMPAAAA!! And the worst thing is not that they could be eaten but that they have to go back into the freezing cold again. Yep, it’s a beautiful day all right.
The fact that Luke has “too much of his father in him” is very clear as he’s beyond impatient waiting for some action ’round here. After all, those Jedi in his ‘cron weren certainly always on the move! He tosses the holocron to the ground in frustration, but soon finds there’s quite a bit more to see than he could just squinting at the smol blue box. Luke finds himself viewing an entire mission as Obi-Wan and Yoda attempt to rescue Sio Bibble from Dooku and his droids. Again, love the collision of eras! Though yeesh you’d think he would’ve put two and two together on the “little green boy” situation 😛 Also good question how did they record these things to begin with? The things these ‘crons can do! Much of it is still a mystery! Unfortunately, Luke is so caught up watching the action he misses out on the… um… Imperial probes hovering nearby. Totally understand though; I don’t notice much of anything when I’m focused on my Star Wars 🙂 “OMG WHAT’S GONNA HAPPEN NEXT?! MUCH INTRIGUE! MUCH AWESOME! MUCH– Wait… what do you mean the house is on fire?” #StarWarsLife
So yeah Palpatine wasn’t happy to hear his apprentice blew it yet again. “YOU WERE FOOLED BY AN R2 UNIT?!” “But it wasn’t just any R2 unit, it was R2-D2!” “i’m starting to think I should’ve turned him to the dark side instead.” “You know how to hurt a guy” XD XD But somehow he still gives him one more chance to prove himself. Darth gives a spirted “Yippee!” to that. And I basically died laughing. Also is it weird I’ve become a bit of a Royal Guard fangirl as of late? I’m pretty sure I can blame my Star Wars Costumes book for that development but eeeee they’re just so COOOOOL! Oh, and then the whole “are we there yet?” bit… just too good, man. Solidness.
So Luke’s really getting into that holocron battle, especially when a young Anakin steps out. He immediately recognizes the name and realizes it’s his dad out there being amazing. Though I have to say this probably wasn’t the ideal holocron footage of his dad to view right now… it’s not the patient Anakin teaching younglings we see in Rebels, it’s the rather impatient reckless apprentice Anakin breakin’ all the rules! Luke’s all “Whoa that was the best move ever!” even though this is totally not the lesson he should be picking up atm. I mean, there’s a time and place for that real-world-influenced spontaneity that made the elder Skywalker so darn good, but not when the younger Skywalker’s chomping at the bit to do something. So when Leia and JEK deliver news that the Empire’s on their way over thanks to his holocron, Luke takes a cue from his dad and decides to go meet Vader face-to-face while Leia finishes the evac. OK is that not kinda freaky, the thought that Luke learns a move from his dad to fight his dad? Whoo is it ever gonna be a clash!
Meanwhile, Han and his crew were a bit hung up… haha puns, ’cause the wampa had them literally hung up on his ceiling. I guess he does that to keep the meat cold. Threepio decides to deliver a few choice wampa-ian words that apparently Han said, which ultimately leads to the wampa knocking him down right where his blaster was. They still end up running out of the cave screaming with the beast at their backs but hey, Threepio’s plan actually saved their lives! Crazy!
“…like a space fox!”
I’m sorry that quote is perfect. Probably a bad segue for the post but still a great quote. JEK was entirely questioning Luke’s plan, and that’s about when Palpatine’s shuttle smacked right into his x-wing. Vader don’t buy it at first, but then he’s all “GREAT GUNRAY’S GHOST IT IS HIM!!” and I can definitely tell you I’ll be using that line a lot now too. Dude you just don’t question the Emperor mkay? He may be a little wrinkly but he’s as sharp as a tack! Well, except he did launch the TIEs before the pilots go in ’em… but don’t judge bro anyone coulda done that! But whoa now Luke and JEK have literally the entire Empire after them. Bold move. Veryyyy bold move. Just like a Skywalker to do that 🙂
So Han, Chewbacca, and Threepio were having a pretty good time. Being chased by a wampa in a snowspeeder and all. I don’t even know how that happened, but if not for that, Threepio might not’ve inadverdently domesticated the tauntaun for the Rebels! And Han did some sweet moves on his Wookiee snowboard! Though yeah I’m so sorry you spent the entire episode as an ice block Chewster. Now if they could just get that landing pad lit already, it’ll have been a successful day…
I must take a minute again to applaud the genius and wit of Lego SW. The sign that says “YES. That asteroid field” is among the greatest of the hilarious signs they’ve placed around the SW galaxy XD Vader’s all “OMG HE PULLED AN ANAKIN ON ME THAT COPYCAT!” as Star Destroyer after Star Destroyer takes some serious damage. And then when a few Rebel fighters join the party, well, let’s just say the Empire gets packin’. “DO SOMETHING EVIL!” “Might I suggest we run?” “THAT SOUNDS GOOD TOO!” Finally Ackbar’s the one who gets to set the trap! And man the bros on Hoth almost didn’t get things lit up in time. That is exactly why Chewie carries candles in his bandolier. Pays to be a “sensitive guy” huh? Pff I’m sure Maz approves 🙂 Yay Chewbacca saved the day! Even though he’s probably going to need a lot of time in the bacta tank after this. And the golden droid finally got some appreciation… but not the kind he was looking for. Han… I know you were doing it as a joke, but you should absolutely know better than to kiss a droid on Hoth. Leia, you better go get your blow drier… we’re gonna be out here a while.
Though the Rebels are settled and the Imps are gone baby gone, the Skywalker boys are still at it. However, their exciting one-on-one space battle becomes an exciting one-on-one duel quite quickly after they both crash on the same asteroid. Also Vader finally did get himself an astromech at some point, and he looks like he’s ready to throw down… at least, up until Artoo completely one-ups him in the weapons department and the other R2 runs off screaming. The flamethrower is a nice touch. But then Vader gets personal AND FORCE-SHOVES ARTOO INTO A CRATER!! DUDE THAT’S JUST COLD! So no questions they’re bringin’ out the ‘sabers! Luke fares pretty well for the first couple minutes, but soon finds himself on the edge of that deep crater. But then Luke gets a little idea… also this line “I’d laugh if it didn’t sound weird and cause me horrible pain” is it wrong I laughed really hard at that? As for Luke’s idea, he knew Vader couldn’t resist throwing a rock at him. A rock that ultimately would awaken a ferocious giant SPACE SLUG!! I was applauding young Skywalker for his ingenuity… and then we find out that the beast is actually Darth’s pet. Wow. I guess if you want a pet that makes a statement, you get a legendary giant slug. I wonder if it’s the same one in Episode V, ’cause you’d think he might’ve looked there in his pursuit of the Falcon. Maybe there’re just two giant slugs in this corner of the galaxy. Or maybe this is noncanon and I’m just looking into this way way too deeply. But yeah needless to say things didn’t go that well… the slug ate Luke. Thankfully a lightsaber to the uvula gets him outta there quickly but it looks like Vader actually did win today. Well, I guess you gotta let the guy have a win sometime! It hasn’t happened often lately. But for now, Luke’s off to ride tauntauns for the Rebels… at least if he ever stops floating aimlessly through space. STORMTROOPAH CONGA LINE!!!
Ah delightful! The Yoda Chronicles have been quite the ride, from their beginning to their finale. It felt really good to take a minute and revisit this super-fun chapter in the Lego Star Wars saga as we prepare for its next, and perhaps most thrilling, chapter as we enter unknown between-Empire-and-Jedi territory and make some new friends before too long 🙂 So until next post…
