The Resistance Report: Signal From Sector Six

OK this episode is so so fun I have an absolute barrel-load to blog about! And yes the monkey pun was entirely intended. Sorry, Poe. Now let’s delve into some of the most sensational moments of the superb Star Wars escapade, Signal From Sector Six!

Contains spoilers from Episode VI, Episode VIII, and Resistance episode Signal From Sector Six (along with selected events from prior episodes).

So, having Poe Dameron come along for the ride again was an absolute treat! I really wasn’t expecting him to end up being as involved as he was, so that made it even more of a treat! Poe has this awesome energy that just lights up every scene he’s in! And I still can’t get over what an outrageously nice guy he is. Between his big-brother-little-brother bond with Kaz and his clear and evident determination to help others, I don’t know how to stop fangirling, and I don’t think I ever will 😀 I mean, who didn’t get all the feels when he stated so boldly and plainly, “There are a lot of dangers out there in the galaxy. When people are in need, we help“? And yet, in the same episode, we’re reminded he’s not without a chink or two in his armor — the man is not a fan of monkey-lizards, to put it mildly. I can’t help but wonder if there’s maybe a slight phobia involved, something more than just sheer annoyance. Either way, we sure learned a lot about Poe in the span of these glorious twenty-two minutes, and it successfully satisfies both my SW fangirl side and my analytical writer side!

And you guys, there are just too many good things to say about CB-23! I was so pleased to get the chance to meet another of the somewhat-uncommon female astromechs, and plus, I just needed more of these darling spherical droids in my life. I had no idea she’d bring so much personality to the table, though. CB is just the sassiest thing, and her little rivalry with BB-8 left me in stitches! But their brief exchange after BB saved her from the monkey got me “aww”-ing big time. It’s amazing how much you can garner from their little nods, beeps, and purrs. CB goes from being surprised and curious why he helped her, to a little apologetic about her earlier actions, and then to what I read as a look of admiration, while BB-8 remains humble and sweet the whole time. Hehe whoops I think they just became my new OTP :3 This episode really reminded me in general how wonderful BB-8 is, and how much joy it brings having him along for Kaz’s misadventures. He’s more than just adorable, he’s the most endlessly loyal sphere-mech I’ve ever met! And now we know he makes friends as easily as his master 🙂

There could have been anything lurking in the shadows of the freighter. We’ve seen everything from mynocks to rathtars, zombie geonosians to giant Imperial sentry droids, what could be next? Well, boy was I surprised when I caught glimpse of those familiar long ears. Kowakian monkey-lizards aren’t your typical scream-inducing SW creature, but the way they played them out this episode, it was hard not to be on the edge of your seat even so. It’s a unique blend of creepy and comedic than I had no idea anyone could pull off successfully, but leave it to Star Wars! 🙂 The little bogans sure are smart… I was particularly concerned for BB and CB. (Hey don’t forget Threepio almost lost a visual receptor to Salacious Crumb!) And then the ape-lizard shows up and brings some serious intensity. I thought at first the big guy was some sort of experimental cross between a monkey and a rancor, but it’s pretty cool to see there are other creatures in that species family (or is that genus? Order? Phylum? I need to brush up on my biology). So cool animal science for me, but a waking nightmare for the boys and the droids XP I know we have yet to see a monkey-lizard without a penchant for making people miserable, but in their defense, the critters were caged up, probably being illegally smuggled for the pet trade (think about it, the only ones we’ve seen elsewhere in the canon belonged to Jabba and Hondo). I’m thinking they might be more decently-behaved living free and in the wild. It’s possible, right…?

And yeah I gotta applaud the writers again, because they made it so hard for me to determine Synara’s true intent. I honestly didn’t remember her presence in The Triple Dark, and somehow it didn’t click with me that she was wearing pirated storm armor. For all intents and purposes, I was pretty convinced she was just the monkey smuggler or something. I did sense she might not be the most trustworthy character, but I was hoping that underlying suspicion might just be a ruse. I mean, after the incident with Amilyn Holdo I don’t trust my first impressions the way I used to. (I can’t be the only one who sorely regrets spending so much time distrusting Leia’s BFF, right?) But in this case, my suspicions were not ill-placed. That doesn’t make her any less of an intriguing character, though. I look forward to seeing how exactly she decides to cause trouble on the Colossus. Plus it’s so cool she’s a purple-skinned mirialan! Once again, this show keeps #KillingIt in the character designs! 😀

TWILIGHT’S HIGHLIGHTS
– Major points to the slick-sounding episode title. Which also happens to literally be the sixth episode.
– Ooh, another chance to witness the rarely-seen SW morning routine! Today, we study the waking habits of the young Resistance spy. See how he walks with his head hung down unnaturally low! And how he handles a broken caf machine! Fascinating XD
– Somehow I get the impression that, if anyone discovers Kaz’s secret, it’s gonna be Tam…
– I’m not a morning person, either, Kaz. But you should see that gorgeous Castellon sunrise! Better than caf!
– These background paintings are giving me life you guys.
– You jump into the x-wing, Kaz. You’re a Star Wars character, it’s kind of in your contract to make spectacular leaps off and into things just like Ahsoka, Ezra, and quite a few others before you!
– Whoops the lasat pirate I so fangirled over a few episodes ago just got eaten. Poor dude.
– Those scruffy little pirate-fighters are awesome!
– More reasons to love BB-8: “Stand back, Kaz, I’ll handle this! Put up your dukes, lady!”
– It’s adorable watching Kaz pretend he’s an expert at life on the Colossus. Keep dreaming kiddo.
– “You’ve helped me more than you realize.” A++ foreshadowing right there! I still can’t believe I didn’t see it coming.

Following The Freemakers: Duel Of Destiny

Wow it’s been too long since I last did some writing on the Freemaker fam. You’ll have to forgive me if any of this post is off… it might take me a few paragraphs to get back in the game. Buuut hopefully not too long, ’cause even if I haven’t written about them in a while, I’m pretty much always thinking about this amazing family… and tbh a lot of headcanons to go with ’em.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode V, Episode VII, Rebels episodes Fire Across The Galaxy, The Holocrons Of Fate, Ghosts Of Geonosis, and Freemakers episodes Showdown On Hoth and Duel Of Destiny

So Naare’s done with everyone right now. Pressure’s on from her superiors, and she still can’t get over the fact Rowan pulled the rug out from under her like he did. Also Graballa won’t shut up. Give him some cred at least he’s looking on the bright side! Not many SW n’er-do-wells make a point of doing that! But I guess it’s tough to look on the bright side when you’ve got Palpatine breathing down your neck… yeesh. Also I just have to point out that Geonosian having a drink in the background. I’ll take that as a sign they don’t go extinct. Maybe it’s Klik-Klak even! Either way I like the idea that not all the bugs do the same stuff. Wouldn’t a Geonosian bounty hunter be the coolest thing?! That needs to be a canon thing right now OK? Sorry for rabbit-trailing. Let’s move along shall we?
Zander and Kordi have been searching all over the galaxy trying to find their little brother. From rim to rim, from Naboo to Tatooine, but with no success, the siblings finally decide to return to The Wheel and hope Rowan gets the same idea. Again ahhh the feels this family is so dedicated it breaks my heart to see them apart! We find that Rowan has found shelter on a remote, unknown rock where he spends his days practicing his lightsaber technique with training droids and Roger’s old memory footage of Jedi. The fact he’s learning from so many different Jedi is incredible. I mean, I know Roger’s not a fan of reliving his constant injuries (I’m guessing the Seppies started recycling their droids after a while), but Rowan’s got a legacy of masters no other Jedi can claim! That’s like… a dream prospect! And he’s not too shabby at it either! Rowan longs to be reunited with his family, but he won’t leave until he knows how to properly defend the final piece of the blade. So much wow this kid keeps blowing my mind with his awesomeness.
Though Naare couldn’t sense Rowan back on Hoth, she’s making a point to try this time as she spends long hours meditating. I still have so many questions on what she’s capable of with the Force, which honestly leads back to a lot of questions on what the Force itself is capable of. How does the ability to sense a presence work? I really gotta do my research again sometime because I either have no clue or I’ve completely forgotten. Is Naare truly incapable of sensing Rowan? And if so, why? WHY I TELL YOU??? Oh it’s painful having all these questions sometimes. Naare is not successful at sensing Rowan, but a tip-off from a spy regarding the boy’s family… that has the potential to be… successful… Bro I got the worst chills after that. Suddenly things got really really dark out here. Especially when the Eclipse FIghter lands in the Freemakers’ shop. “AHHHHMAGOSH THEY’RE DEAD.” was my response. I’ve wondered long what would go down if something like this ever happened. Naare’s a fully-committed darksider psychopath! If she wanted to get Rowan’s attention by torturing his siblings, then sure enough she could do it! But oh she makes very clear to Zander and Kordi she has no interest in doing them physical pain… mental torture is so much more fun O_O Maybe she can’t sense Rowan… but she has no doubt Rowan can sense his brother and sister’s suffering. And she starts off by hitting their more superficial fears as she mercilessly tears parts off the StarScavenger and burns their precious few credits. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if she knew how to do that Kylo Ren-ish/Maul-ish/Grand Inquisitor-ish mind torture thing too and maybe dig up some other old wounds. (I can’t be the only one wondering what became of their parents, right?) Though with the way Zander reacted after she tore apart the Blazemaker, well, she really didn’t have to do anything more. RIP Blazemaker. That was needlessly cruel.
Again, the fact that Rowan is learning from the likes of Anakin, Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, and Kit Fisto… just *makes explosion noise with mouth*. Plus, I mean, anyone can watch someone do something, but actually learning it and applying it? That’s harder. I mean, look at me! You’d think with all the lightsaber combat I’ve witnessed I’d know how to swing one in a fight, but eh a Jedi I am not. So yeah this has inspired me to try practicing dueling with my brother again. If Rowan can do it, so can I! And then he felt it… pain. Kordi and Zander’s pain. Roger re-reminds him of their plan to remain hidden, but Rowan’s changing the plan. “What’s the point of saving the galaxy if the people you love aren’t in it?” Oh my heart this precious child… he was about to pull a “Luke”. What he felt was no vision, it was really happening, so he was a little more in his right than Luke was. But at the same time… this boy is our last hope… and there’s isn’t another. All I knew for sure during my first viewing was that Rowan was about to learn a very very hard lesson.
OK this post needs some lightening up. Let’s spend a whole paragraph on Graballa’s green pretzel! OK maybe not a whole paragraph but seriously a green pretzel sounds really good. Though the one Graballa has looks like it could use some more salt because what’s a pretzel without salt? I mean seriously. Maybe the salt’s just baked in or something IDK. I’d sure hope so. All right now I’ve gotta cut the light chatter now because HOLY CRUD, NAARE JUST PULLED OUT HER LIGHTSABER ON KORDI AND ZANDER. So when Rowan finally showed up in a spectacular crash-landing fashion, I defs was cheering. What follows is too epic to base off my feeble description alone. Kordi and Zander take on Graballa and his fleet of moof-milkers (btw still one of the greatest SW insults ever) with only some junk and a whole lotta ingenuity (and also a giant magnet… and a fan… and a few other things). Meanwhile Rowan and Naare come blade-to-blade like never before, ’cause this time Ro’s been learning from the best. Naare definitely notices after a while, especially when he pulls a masterful move Darth Vader perfected. R0-GR takes the credit for his “padawan”‘s skills, but in doing so… might’ve revealed he remembers the location of the last Kyber Saber crystal. With this news, Naare violently force-pushes Rowan into a junk pile and slashes Roger’s head off. Now she’s got it all… her enemies defeated, the information she needs in the palm of her hand, and while she’s at it, she finally severs her deal with Graballa. No doubt she’s terrifying here but I kind of admire her confidence with handling Graballa and his gang. She’s all #WINNING today bro and now she don’t need anyone’s crud. So when Rowan rises up once more, blade ready… oh man that little teeny smidge of respect I had for her went out the airlock when she sent virtually everything down on his head. Watching him crushed against the wall like that still makes me shudder and hurts my heart to watch. I was honestly amazed he survived. So were Zander and Kordi. But out of the rubble, in their darkest hour… Rowan finds hope. He’s fought so hard to become a Jedi, but the only thing he needs to be right now is himself — a Freemaker.
As Boba Fett once said in an episode of Droids, “You haven’t won yet“. We’re talkin’ to you, Naare. *Drops the mic*
THAT WAS SO SO EPIC AW MAN I CAN’T. Reminded me again how antsy I am for that next season. Welp I look forward to writing about some Rebels epicness next week and all other manner of Star Wars epicness from there!

Rebel Transmissions: Ghosts Of Geonosis

All right, it’s Transmission time again! Get comfy because I betcha this’ll be a long one. But perhaps the longest posts have the most interesting stuff to talk about…
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Rogue One, Episode IV, the TCW “Onderon Rebellion” arc and TCW episode Legacy Of Terror, and Rebels episodes The Honorable Ones, Imperial Supercommandos, and Ghosts Of Geonosis

The Ghost crew has a pretty huge mission ahead of them today, delivered by Bail Organa himself. After the crew-fam found Geonosis virtually lifeless a while back, the mini-Alliance sent a squad in to investigate. Now they’ve lost contact with the squad, and it’s up to Hera and company to find ’em again. Rex, Kanan, Ezra, and Chopper head out into the underground hoping to find the Rebs and their leader, Saw Gerrera. So yes I could talk about Saw for a long long while. He’s never failed to be an utterly fascinating individual, from his earliest days in The Clone Wars to his last days in Rogue One. So I’m utterly glad they brought him into Rebels so we can see him at the halfway point between those events. I recently finally got me a copy of TCW season 5, and yesterday I started revisiting the Onderon arc again, so Saw G. is completely fresh on my mind right now. It warms my heart hearing Rex speak so highly of him. Also I can’t help but get nostalgia everywhere I look as we enter the Geonosian temple ruins and then into the tunnels below. Though I’m forever thankful there aren’t any living dead down here, I definitely feel the absence of life. It’s way too quiet… way too still. And then they come upon a long trail of helmets without any Rebels in them. And Kanan hears something — or perhaps someone — in the distance. Though he’s not terribly fond of the idea, Ezra and Rex insist on pressing on. Then a whole squad of battle droids show up! Along with one of their destroyer friends! Does anything good ever happen on this planet?? They’re all a little rusty but they still know how to “blast ’em!”. But they really don’t see it coming when someone else sneaks up behind them and blasts ’em. That someone is our boy Saw Gerrera! Like say, it’s amazing seeing him here… it makes the connection perfectly between the fierce, driven young man he was and the perhaps more fierce and driven, but broken, man he becomes. And oh wow Forrest Whitaker does such an incredible job! I mean, that’s a no-brainer, he did incredibly on Rogue One to start with. It’s just really nice to hear Saw’s voice in its prime, before the injuries he’d take would leave it so raspy. He sounds so perfectly like an older version of the character we met on TCW so long ago it’s seriously too great! Plus, I mean, just being able to see him in a much larger role and get to know even more about him… I love it all to pieces. Also AHH THAT SMILE OF HIS! I can’t thank Lucasfilm enough for bringing Saw back into the SW galaxy; so many new stories to tell, and so many new reasons to love him! (Even when he can be, well… y’know… not lovable)
So Sabine and Zeb were having a good time I guess, trekking through the sandstorm looking for whatever that power reading came from. And what they found was a fully-operational shield generator. Hera’s delighted to find one for the mini-Alliance, but Zeb is wondering exactly why there’s one here the first place. That’s what Saw’s thinking, too. He knows there’s a Geonosian alive down here and that it’s likely responsible for the droid attack. Which might have something to do with the fact Sabine and Zeb quickly find themselves in a droideka minefield. Hera’s thinking everybody ought to be gettin’ on board and off this cray planet, but again, Saw has no interest in leaving until he gets what he came for. If they can find that bug, they can find some answers on the Empire’s doings. And right across that terrifyingly deep chasm is the bug in question — who, upon his discovery, decides to wake those droids on the surface up. Ezra, Kanan, and Rex are ’bout ready to head back up, but Saw believes they’re more likely to stop those droids if they go after the Geonosian instead of trying to get back there in time. And so starts some major epicness that I feel I cannot describe in a way that fully captures its epicness. Kanan force-throws Ezra for the first time in ages, which I just love because it feels so classically season 2 again. And when he then turns around and uses the Force to bridge that gap… oh wowzers. He defs been practicin’. And that Force-jump was awesome too. WHAT’D YOU MEAN “HE’S NO SKYWALKER”?! HE’S AMAZING!!! XP Hehe I love watching Rex and Saw pallin’ around though… even if it’s at Kanan’s expense XD And we can’t forget Sabine and Zeb using the very shield generator for their benefit as they slowly work their way through the destroyers’ path. The bug gives the crew quite the chase, but thanks to Ezra they’re able to apprehend him and turn off those destroyers just in time before the shields were downed. Andddd now we can breathe. Though probably not for long…
(BLOGGER’S NOTE: I sincerely apologize for the real lack of interesting thoughts in this post at this point. I am stupidly distracted today but I’ll try and remedy this shortly)
Yeah soon as he got the chance, Saw was ready to get some answers from the Geonosian. Really really ready. Ezra quickly senses the bug’s pretty terrified, so he tries to make a friendlier first (or second, I guess?) impression. I’m amazed that Ezra’s ability to connect allowed for the Geonosian to somewhat understand him. It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve seen Ez using his connecting much so this was a neat revelation. And from here on out the Geonosian shall go by the exceptionally cute nickname of Klik-Klak! One thing that absolutely blows me away about this episode is that, after all this time of knowing Geonosians to be generally horrifying and dangerous… they made a Geonosian we can root for, a Geonosian who clearly has feelings, a Geonosian who is actually pretty adorable. (C’mon just listen that weird-cute squeaky voice of his! I can’t be the only one!) Klik-Klak is proof again that SW can do anything, even give these bugs a redemption story. Ezra nicely asks what Saw wanted to know, and Klik-Klak gave them nothing but the truth. Yeah it’s kind of sad that I know what it is, and we all know what it is, but… they might not figure it out for a while. Saw’s not satisfied in the least, and cuffs KK for further questioning. Ezra finds that his comrade dropped something in his haste — a holo of his sister, Steela. It’s truly fascinating watching Saw at this point. At first, he seemed like a nice guy who had his priorities straight; when he suggested going after the Geonosian instead of going back to help the others, it seemed just like it was a matter of his logic over their emotion. But now, we’re seeing a rougher side of Saw as he gives Klik-Klak nothing but a hard time (to say the least). We are reminded he lost his team to the droids the bug built, but seeing him react to the image of his sister really drives it home how personal all of this is. In the midst of all his sudden jerkiness, we see him wounded again by her loss. It breaks my heart to see he’s hung onto this hurt for so long. But as someone with a close sibling, I could understand how easy it would be to do so. Excuse me while I go get the tears out of my eyes. Wait OMG. A LIGHT CRUISER JUST SHOWED UP WE SHOULD BE VERY CONCERNED.
Meanwhile, searching through Klik-Klak’s quarters reveals an intriguing discovery: a queen egg, the last hope for the Geonosian people, and likely the whole reason he was commanding armed droids in the first place. Upon hearing of the Imps’ arrival, everyone’s ready to go, but Saw’s not leaving without KK to question further later. Ezra argues that it’s best to leave him be so he can focus on caring for the egg and restoring his kind, but um yeah it don’t look like Saw cares. Kanan makes a deal that they’ll question KK at their base and then bring him back, which seems to satisfy everyone for now. It’s a good thing the rest of the crew on the Ghost is on the same page though. I mean, firing at TIE bombers with a dust-clogged barrel is universally not fun for anyone, but Hera, Zeb, and Sabine manage to come out on top anyway. It’s a bit of a tight fit getting the Ghost into the chasm, but soon all our Rebs and KK are safely aboard. Right off the bat though, Hera don’t look at Saw with too much enthusiasm. Quite the opposite really. She pulls Kanan aside to explain that Saw’s been known to do some questionable crazy things, and they turn around and suddenly Gerrera’s zapping the living daylights out of Klik-Klak. Ezra and Rex try and stop him but neither get far. ‘Bout lost all respect for Saw when he flipped Rex like that. And just like that he’s got his blaster up against the egg. Saw reallllly likes to play with my emotions. One minute he makes me smile and then I cry for him and then he gets me steamed. Le sigh that’s just Saw for ya though. Ezra and Rex both make great arguments. That egg is the only family Klik-Klak’s got, and Saw of all people knows what it’s like to lose family. But his heart’s just too hardened to change his mind. “Then you’re no better than the Empire.” CHIIILLLLS. One of the things Rogue One did so well was in introducing us to the darker side of the Alliance. Not everyone had each others’ best interests, not everyone had the same morals. Now we’re getting to see one of those Rebels colliding with our considerably-more-noble Rebels and it’s nothing short of intriguing to watch unfold. Lol that’s an understatement. But there’s no time for debate WE’VE GOT FLYING STORMTROOPERS HEADING OUR WAY!! With them coming down and that light cruiser blocking their exit, there’s nowhere for the Ghost to go but down. Saw quickly puts aside his tiff and joins the rest of the crew for a little fight-bringin’. Ohh it is a battle for the history books, my friends. The rocket troopers are epic, but not quite as epic as our heroes are today ’cause everybody’s bringing their own kind of awesome to the table! Especially perhaps Sabine, whose jetpack is in working order and ready to more than level that playing field. I understand Ezra, I think we all want jetpacks after that 😀
The Ghost soon reaches what seems to be the lowest level, and that’s just where Klik-Klak wanted to go. We find massive Imperial canisters of poison gas, making clear what ultimately happened to KK’s people. Seeing this, Saw finally seems to understand what Ezra had been saying all along, and chooses to let the Geonosian free. Aww yayy. I love that we get a little redemption for him as well as for the Geonosians. Because Saw, despite all he’s done, and whatever he might do, he’s still a good man with a good heart. And now, beneath the level where their civilization was destroyed, Klik-Klak and the future queen have the opportunity to build it back again. Again, aww yay for hope! (Yes I know that apparently stuff will happen later with the Geonosians that’s not-so-great but I haven’t read those comics yet so I’ll just enjoy the moment) This is also a win for the Rebs, as now they can show the Senate the proof of what the Empire’s up to. Of course the Imps don’t make it easy for ’em. But they make it even less easy for the Imps! You try and bury the Ghost, the Ghost will blast its way through your light cruiser. Just science. The Rebs sadly lost their physical evidence in the process, but even without the Senate yet on their side, they’ve got the rest of the Aliiance growing bigger by the day. And even when they’re not always on the same page, we know that together, they can make some pretty huge stuff happen 🙂
Pff I can be so cheesy sometimes sorry. But yay I’m glad I got this one done! And I’m really glad I finally got to talk about Rogue One some because it’s been so thoroughly on my brain lately, I was about to explode if I didn’t get these thoughts out. Until next post…

7 Fascinating Action Figure Finds You (Maybe) Didn’t Know Existed

Like you, I love finding Star Wars stuff, and sometimes just searching for it makes me happy, even if I don’t find what I’m looking for and move along. You could say it’s the thrill of the chase. Oftentimes, as I comb through Amazon and eBay, I’ll find some pretty cool stuff that I’d never seen or heard of before. So I thought I’d compile a few of the most unique, unusual, and downright cool 3.75s I’ve come upon. And even if you knew about them long before I did, it’s still worth some discussion, don’t you think?
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode I, Episode II, Episode III, Episode Iv, and Episode V

EPISODE III SUPER BATTLE DROID

The droid’s on fire. Not your average figure amiright? I always loved that moment where R2-D2 shows those bullying buckets of bolts that size matters not… though I’m sure this guy would have differing opinions on the matter. Battle damage features can make for some really fascinating figures!

SECRET CEREMONY PADME AMIDALA

Oh yeah they totally made this, despite it looks like she doesn’t have enough articulation to qualify as an action figure. Still super pretty, with the chunk of the balcony and her gorgeous dress and all. Though I have to wonder why they chose to make her in this dress but not the purple senate gown and shrug, which happens to be one of my most favorite outfits of hers. Someday perhaps… but that’s another story.

OTC COLLECTION DAGOBAH R2-D2

Speaking of droids with “battle damage”, have a smol gunky R2! Again, love the detail, though wow poor Artooie…

POTJ JEDI TRAINING GEAR OBI-WAN KENOBI

I don’t know if this came out of a deleted scene, a comic book or novel, or what, but it’s all kinds of fascinating. Why black? Why leather? Why blast-shield-down-helmet? OK I guess that last part makes sense, but otherwise it looks like Obi-Wan went through an emo phase at some point XD OK I did just see they made a matching Qui-Gon so I guess there was some purpose to it. Maybe as camo? IDK…

POTJ COLD WEATHER ADVENTURE OBI-WAN KENOBI

Sorry to throw two Obi-Wans in here but seriously though the stuff they made for the Episode I era is super unique! I suppose it’s not too far from the recent “mission armor” sets they’ve been doing these days, but it’s not just that they gave a regular Obi-Wan extra gear, they gave him this entire new look for a story I’m not sure has ever been told! Gotta love that they wanted to play around with new ideas and new concepts that hadn’t yet been explored. Maybe this eventually inspired TCW down the line? Who knows.

EPISODE IV PONDO BABA WITH REMOVABLE ARM & CANTINA SECTION

Because duh we want to relive knocking Pondo’s arm clean off. Beyond that, I just love it comes with scenery, like the Padme one. Sure could make for some fun storytelling with just that chunk of the cantina alone!

EPISODE II GEONOSIAN & MASSIFF

Don’t mind us, just your average joe takin’ his dog for a walk. Though for the record I kinda really want a massiff. I mean as a figure, not a real one… unless it was properly trained, anyway.

OK so granted, that might not’ve been the most unusual or unique, but I thought they were cool anyway. And there are so so so very many more out there! I guarantee you I’ll find another bunch to blog about in the future! And yes I know this post was pretty lame but hopefully next week’s will be much better.

Rebel Transmissions: The Mystery Of Chopper Base

So I had a lovely Star Wars Day yesterday. Watched Episode I (since it’s been officially five years since I first saw it), threw in a little Clone Wars action, some Lego Droid Tales fun, read my Original Trilogy Costumes book a bit, listened to songs with SW references, ate SW Cheez-Its, and wore my BB-8 schematics shirt! But my love of Star Wars doesn’t just pertain to one day a year, it’s everyday! So let’s continue the celebration with the totally-exciting, sometimes-frightening, and always-feely episode The Mystery Of Chopper Base!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from TCW episode Legacy Of Terror and Rebels episodes Out Of Darkness, The Siege Of Lothal, Shroud Of Darkness, The Forgotten Droid, and The Mystery Of Chopper Base.

It feels good seeing the mini-Alliance finally find home. And though it’s only stated in the title, I’m sure Chopper won’t let anyone forget that it’s his base. Also I’m gonna guess AP lost a bet XP We catch the Ghost family in the middle of movin’ in, going back and forth delivering stuff to the planet surface. But while Hera is looking forward to getting settled, a few of our crewmembers are planning on taking off. Kanan and Ezra are hard at work doing some seriously intense lightsaber training. Also we get to see their blue blades in training mode! I didn’t know they could do that, but it makes a lot of sense, considering no one wants to lose a limb while practicing. Fun uncovering new secrets of the SW galaxy! Aw man they seriously got skilllllz tho. They kinda have to since they’ve got the path to Malachor lying in front of them. They practice fighting like they mean it, like their lives absolutely 100% depend on it (which will likely be very true), and as fiercely and craftily and aggressively as they can. But their skillz are pretty equally matched, as they keep coming to a draw. And as Kanan explains, there are no ties in lightsaber duels. So that means MORE PRACTICE! Whoo-hoo. Hera watches her boys with pride, but also with a glimmer of sadness. Things are getting real out here man. Just watching Kanan practice-fight dirty like an inquisitor reminds us of that. And yes I am writing this completely from the perspective I had the day I watched this. Just wanted to clear that up again.
Also “THIS IS MY EXCITED FACE!” OMG I died laughing. So perfectly Kanan. He mighta just started a meme right there. But Hera doesn’t share her copilot’s enthusiasm. Though I completely sympathize with Hera’s feelings in this moment, Kanan looks so confused it’s hilarious. Also HI AP-5!! He’s gonna have to get used to the fact the Ghost crew’s always fashionably late 🙂 The world they’re setting up roots on is dry and hot and has an abundance of tiny crabby-things (which I find rather adorable, don’t tell Zeb), but it’s home! But… well, there’s always a “but”. A young Reb was setting up sensors around the perimeter when a much much larger pest problem reared its ugly head. The little bogans mirror our own reaction as she falls prey to the nightmarish beast. Oh look things just got more real.
Elsewhere Kanan and Hera survey their handiwork as the base continues to come together. But knowing Kanan and Ezra won’t be here, it makes it a little harder for Hera to be enthusiastic. Kanan reiterates how important it is for them to get the inquisitors off their backs if they want to keep this mini-Alliance going. To his credit, he’s trying here, even finally says “yeah you were right being part of a larger Rebellion is awesome”, but boy still don’t quite quite get it. But then word that one of their lieutenants is missing puts this conversation on hold. Rex and Sabine are on the case!
This won’t be the first time you hear me say this in this post, but Mystery Of Chopper Base is super-super nostalgic in addition to being always-feely. Because with the future ahead uncertain, this sorta feels like a last episode for everybody together. This golden little moment in the midst of the craziness definitely fits the nostalgia feels. Hehe Chopper seems to be living up to his “grumpy pet cat” description as he pursues a smol crab and rams right into Ezra. The astromech continued his chase after letting Ez know where Zeb went off to. Ah just like the good ol’ days… always running here and there and then getting tripped up by the family C1. Much nostalgia right there 🙂 So Zeb was outside, already had a little spot of his own set up and enjoying the sunset. Interesting thought do you think Lasan was generally a hotter-temperatures planet? We know Zeb isn’t fond of the cold (but who is really?), and I get the feeling that this isn’t the most temperate world. Perhaps Zeb favors more warm desert-y climates? He even seems to have toes like a species of desert lizard (that I can’t remember the name of) that helps them walk on hot ground without burning their feet! Of course the sun is setting so maybe the weather’s more favorable at this point and he’s enjoying a more temperate evening. OK yeah I know I’m weird but like I’ve said before weather in SW is fascinating because it’s rarely obvious. Also a thought on Lasat and their old homeworld again. I’ll stop rambling now. But yeah… it’s majorly presh as Zeb invites Ezra to just chill out with him a moment. Ezra’s aware that a lot’s up in the air with what may ultimately come of their trip to Malachor. But Zeb throws some solid encouragement his way, knowing his little bro’ll be back, and by then they’ll both have stories to tell 🙂 And so with that they turn up the radio and simply enjoy the moment, whatever the future holds. AUGH. THE ABSOLUTE FEELS. Still gets me thinking how much they’ve grown, how they’ve truly become brothers. GAH MOVING ON BEFORE I CRY.
Meanwhile, Rex and Sabine’s search for the lieutenant turned up dry, but they did find a HORRENDOUS GIANT CRAB-SPIDER THING!! Yeesh I wish I remembered all the species names in this episode. And now they’re back and in greater numbers! The clone and the Mando’s awesomeness combined is a sight to behold. But with the crawlers’ crusty hides resilient to blasterfire, Sabine gets knocked out and Rex gets carried off very quickly. Sabine gets back on her feet and manages to down a few of the creeps with a shot to the eye, but they very nearly get her too. Good thing the Ghost and its crew had her back. No questions the family’s making sure they get their resident “grandpa” back! OK except maybe for Zeb ’cause he’s got a problem with multi-leggers… “MORE THAN TWO LEGS IS JUST… EXCESSIVE!”. Careful bro you might’ve offended some of Admiral Trench’s spider-person kin. Granted they really just have multiple arms instead of legs, but I assume it would still come off just as creepy. Hmm… season 3 episode prediction: Zeb has to negotiate a deal with the spider-people. That would go well XD
And so, armed with lightsabers and flashlights, the Ghost team enters the tunnels. Also that bit where Ezra one-ups Zeb’s dinky flashlight with his ‘saber? PERFECTION XD With so many routes to go, Kanan suggests they split up. But instead of Ezra with half of them and Kanan with the other half, Hera suggests the Jedi go separately, knowing they’ll need to get used to Rebelling without the Force-wielders around. Again, getting some sad vibes here. So ’bout as soon as the master and padawan turn around there’s a crawler staring them down. Ezra decides to try and Force-connect with it, since, after all, it’s kinda his thing. But it seems the beastie doesn’t respond to such and just rather’d eat them. It took Kanan about 1.2 seconds to leap to his apprentice’s defense and kill the bug. Also yet another golden quote: “You always change the subject when I start winning!” XD Man the season’s been over for a month and I’m already missing the sound of their camaraderie…
So if there’s one thing that we learn from this episode, it’s that giant spider dens are creepy to the max. Oh wait, I think we already learned that from Legacy Of Terror in TCW, except those were zombie Geonosians but the principle is the same. Thank goodness Rex is still alive… even though being caught in the creature’s terrifying grip sorta puts a time limit on that matter. Hera, Sabine, and Zeb manage to pry open the cage of spider legs and free their comrade, buuuuut it’s hard to do that without waking it up so… time to go. Seems like everywhere they turn though more crawlers show up! The blaster-wielding side of the family holds their own well, but they can only shoot so many at once. Just as Hera was about to try taking one down herself, the ‘saber-wielding side of the family made their entrance. Together they manage to get out of the tunnels, but the Ghost isn’t too much safer. Those bugs quickly get to work on webbing the ship down. Ezra, Zeb, and Kanan take to the big guns, and Hera and Sabine whip out the bug-zapping shield they used on the fyrnocks, but neither make much of a dent in the spidercrabs. Only option now is to cut the ship free. Zeb’s all “NOPE”. To which Ezra responds “Greaaat the last Jedi in the galaxy are gonna get eaten BECAUSE YOU WERE TOO AFRAID TO COME OUTSIDE!!” Ah so many priceless moments 😛 It’s looking like there’s no way to stop the crawlers, but then Sabine realizes they’re bothered by the sensor markers, the only reason they hadn’t set foot on the base, and the other reason they didn’t attack her earlier that day. Time for an Ezra plan! While the rest of them defend the ship from the bugs, Ezra and Kanan’ll Force-throw Sabine over to the sensor. “It’s times like this I reallyy wish I had a jetpack”. Wellll if someone had picked up on all those hints she left for Life Day things might be different now! XP New season 3 episode prediction: Sabine buys a used jetpack at the market and finds out it was stolen from Boba Fett and he’s not happy. Of course, things go well and they mayyy have given her too much of a push and oh look a cliff. *Facepalm* Couldn’tve planned for that, could ya? Also, wow major props to Rex for taking on that crabspider like he did. I mean, he basically WRESTLED IT OUT and KICKED IT IN THE FACE. Not bad for an old clone! And thank goodness ’cause man that got scary at times. Speaking of, how’s Sabine doin? Thankfully she had more of a grip on that cliffside than it looked when Ezra and Kanan pitched her over. But then ANOTHER ONE IS COMING UP BEHIND HER!! AHHH!! Thankfully she manages to get back up and get to the sensor just in time. She’s in charge now, crawlers! She’s in charge! With that, the Jedi cut the Ghost loose and head for home!
So even though the bugs are a bit of a drawback, Hera’s not about to give up this base, no sir. Ultimately, the sensors are the answer, just lots and lots and lots of sensors. Kanan’s glad to see their pest problem resolved, but Sabine’s finally done holding her silence “GO. TALK. TO. HERA.” Yes she’s noticed. She done noticed everyythingg. Kanan’s all derp like “Whut?” and Sabine’s all *facepalm* “MEN! SHE’S GONNA MISS YOU, YOU DOLT!”. He got the hint this time. Thank goodness ’cause we were all thinking what Sabine was thinking. Though I will note, as Kanan walks away, Sabine has this hint of a smile on her face… yeeeees she ships ’em just as much as we do.
So when Kanan walks over, Hera immediately turns the conversation to business stuff, since she thinks that’s probably all she’s gonna get from him. But in his own kinda awkward way, he reassures her he and Ezra’ll be all right. For a moment, he puts all the business matters and uncertainties aside, and they share a tender, bittersweet goodbye hug. “We’ll see each other again…” he promises. I absolutely about died of feels here. There were tears on my part I can promises you that. Even with no idea what was to come, it’s impossible not to feel as though it’s final somehow. It’s absolutely beautiful, and it most definitely speaks volumes about their relationship at this point, and it basically leaves me reeling with feels. Le sigh… I do love Kanan and Hera together something awful ❤
In the last few enigmatic moments of the second-to-last episode, we find Ezra trying again to reach out to a spidercrab, only to be snarled at again. At least this time it's from the safety of the sensor-surrounded base. It's about then when Ahsoka arrives. Ezra ponders why it is he can't connect, but Ahsoka can only further ponder on the many mysteries of the Force. Some questions simply can't be answered. But for now, they have bigger questions to find answers to. Malachor awaits.
So I think all I can do after an episode this incredible is wish you the best of luck to recovering from those feels. Especially if you're like me and already saw what happens next, but that's another post for another day. Until then…

Keep The Peace,
– Twilight
