Following The Freemakers: Return To The Wheel

Although I would’ve liked to have gotten this post out a fair bit sooner, I’m really really glad it’s here anyway, because this wonderful episode has a lot of great neat stuff to talk ’bout! Join me, Freemaker fan-fam, as we Return To The Wheel!

Contains spoilers from Rebels episode Hera’s Heroes and Freemakers episode Return To The Wheel (along with potential spoilers from much of season one)

The way Rowan said “home”… it not only turned my insides to absolute mush, but it also filled me with intrigue. I was somewhat surprised the Freemakers thought so fondly of the bustling space station and its little repair shop. Now, I’m not going to drown you in all my headcanons, but I definitely have always assumed the Wheel was where the kids turned when they, for whatever reason, found themselves with nowhere else to go. I figured with all their past business challenges and all the scraping by they did to survive, Freemaker Salvage and Repair wouldn’t have been the most homey place for them. But the more I thought about it, the more I remembered that, though they’ve been through some tough times, perhaps it was these tough times that brought them closer, especially after the youngest turned out to be a Forcebuilder. So even with a great place on Home One, I’m glad they can look back at their former residence and see something meaningful… even when it’s among the most dangerous places for them to be right now.

So remember a couple posts back when I commented how glad I was the Empire didn’t remember that Rowan could lead them to kyber crystals? Didn’t see it coming when Graballa got that idea first (technically Yuppo but Grabs don’t care). I was all “oh snap this gonna get real”. And real it does get, ’cause the Hutt’s calling in not only Dengar, but IG-88, 4-LOM, Bossk, and Zuckuss. Oh it was great hanging out with these guys! They might not have Boba Fett’s street cred (or massive fanbase), but they’re nothing if not intense and intensely cool in their own right. And I love getting more of a handle of who they are, particularly with the droids (or droid-like?) we haven’t seen as much around the SW galaxy. Though it’s impossible for me to truly pick favorites out of the bunch, Zuckuss kinda stole my heart. I’m totally behind the idea that the guy yells everything he says and always refers to himself in third person. That’s canon far as I’m concerned! XD But yeah now I really want to find some more stories on these stellar hunters in the future, ’cause their presence this episode was a complete blast.
Pun 100% not intended.

The idea of a complicated homecoming called back to mind the Rebels episode Hera’s Heroes, and had me suspecting some troublemaking someone or someones might’ve taken up residence in the old shop the same way the Empire made themselves comfortable in Hera’s childhood home. Didn’t expect it to be Wick Cooper though. Buuut honestly it seems just like Mr. Cooper to be once again making things difficult for the Freemakers because it’s basically his job in life. Or maybe more of a hobby. Also didn’t expect he’d be running an expensive classy-casual kaffe cafe. I would’ve figured he wouldn’t care to rub elbows with Middle Ring “riffraff”, but obviously he knew what would strike gold! I can kind of respect how he keeps finding new ways to up his impossible levels of selfish self-centeredness…

Also, I just absolutely love Zander and Rowan’s mustache accents. Not convincing, but nothing short of brilliantly hilarious! They gotta take this show on the road! XD OK got that out of my system now we can move on to bigger story elements. Like how Rowan managed to fit in that ‘trooper armor. OK that I theorize would look a lot different if it weren’t Lego SW. But it’s kind of funny to imagine him in this oversized doesn’t-quite-fit-his-smallish-tween-boy-frame suit of armor… and then he still manages to avoid detection! Hmm does make you wonder though why they didn’t throw in an Imperial cadet along with the bucketheads so Ro could disguise himself that way. Oh right because then we wouldn’t get a “short for a stormtrooper” joke out of it XD

Of course I’m going to need to talk a bit on the tragic [nonexistent] romance of Zander and Becky Smoochenbacher. As it was a brief goofy mention way back on Zander’s Joyride, I wasn’t expecting this mystery girl from the Upper Ring to end up being a fair-sized plot element. But I’m so glad they did what they did, because watching Zander turn ’bout every conversation to her and confess his undying love to a fire extinguisher is pure hilarious gold. I’ve theorized that Becky was a customer of the Freemakers’ at some point (this perhaps being the only reason Zander could know her full name), a rich kid who came to their shop needing a repair on a dent on her parents’ expensive spacecraft. And the rest is history. Or not, as these “lost stars” may never cross again. But yeah OMG Zander is such a sweetheart and a romantic I just can’t. The boy deserves to be loved ❤
And yes I probably do put too much thought into this sort of stuff… but whenever there's a little story inside of SW about a boy, a girl, and a galaxy… the feels and warm fuzzies come full-force :3

Adding to the long list of things I wasn't expecting this episode: the fact that it was the Freemakers who would find the Rebels’ first clue to the construction of the second Death Star! Ackbar’s command to send for the bothan spies sounds like we’re getting really really close to the events of Episode VI. I figured originally they’d probably keep all the series’ events entirely in-between the films, but this makes me wonder if maybe we’ll get to see the Freemakers running right alongside the Rebels during the Battle of Endor, or even maybe beyond that. Oh my gravy is that thought not amazing?? I don’t know if there’s any way the people at Lucasfilm and Wilfilm could do that, but getting a glimpse at the war’s end through the eyes of these precious kids would just be astounding! Anyway, yes this unexpected twist certainly has me excited! Just have to wait and see what happens next as both sides’ building projects near their completion…
Now, a moment of silence for what we know will become of the bothans. I can’t be the only one who quietly cried out “noooo those poor bothans…!”, right? Force be with them. *Salutes*

Anyway, this episode has become an instant classic for me, and it felt good getting all these Freemaker-y thoughts out on paper! (Well, online, technically) Hopefully this’ll be the last of my late posts. Until next follow-up…

Following The Freemakers: Showdown On Hoth

Ah, is there any better way to spend a chilly day than by bundling up in a cozy blanket and writing about Star Wars? The weather is especially appropriate as I’m writing on the Freemakers episode Showdown On Hoth today. Let’s dig in.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode IV, Episode V, Freemaker episodes The Kyber Saber Crystal Chase, The Maker Of Zoh, and Showdown On Hoth

“We’re only talking about the fate of the galaxy here, but y’know… no pressure!”
OK that is seriously one of my favorite quotes from this episode and this season and the series period. It carries such a classically iconic Star Wars vibe it just bowls me over with feels. And it’s highly appropriate, as we watch Rowan and Kordi man the StarScavenger‘s guns as Graballa’s fleet and the Eclipse Fighter follow closely behind, who are aiming to get to that final Kyber Saber fragment before our heroes do. Zander goes for cloud cover, but ehhh you know how Darksiders are… sorta able to see with the Force and all that. Before they know it, their ship’s minus its stabilizer and caught in a freefall. But Rowan has the Force on his side as well, and he miraculously reattaches the all-too-important piece before they could crash. Naare almost avoided that mountain… key word being “almost”. Because the rest of the fleet didn’t pick up on it as quickly as she did, there might’ve been some crashing. I don’t know how it is nothing exploded, but *shrugs* wouldn’t be a very long episode if the family got off that easily.
As the Freemakers fly over the remains of walkers and snowspeeders, what would normally be perfect scrap for the grabbing is a reminder of the importance of the task ahead. They can’t go back to salvaging, all they can do is find that crystal. Rowan voices a thought that maybe he’d be better served to do this on his own, but his siblings won’t have it. “The Freemakers fly together or they don’t fly at all”. After a slippery landing, the ground search is officially on. Also OMG their matching cold weather outfits are just too darling. And they look super warm, too, which is good considering this is the kind of weather that could drive a man to take shelter in a dead tauntaun. Roger, meanwhile, stays behind on the StarScavenger and out of the cold. He may’ve made a mistake though, turning on the engines to keep warm… they did land on some kind of frozen lake. I guess it’s a lake I’m not really sure. I always thought Hoth was sort of a frozen desert without much aside from cold ground and more cold ground, but considering the snow out here, it makes sense why there’d be other water sources. But yeah the fact their ship sinks and Roger freezes up… oh boy.
So as we catch up with the scum and villainy, first thing of note is: how is it possible that Graballa is literally the only one here dressed for the weather?? And even then he mentions later his adorable hat and scarf are more fashionable than functional. I mean, Dengar’s just chillin’ out here in the frigid cold like nothing’s weird! HOW. EVEN?? Only logical answer I’ve got is that they must have extra layers on. As for Graballa, that just might be something they wouldn’tve done if this weren’t Lego SW. Other major thing of note: Graballa asks Naare if she can just sense Rowan with the Force and figure out where he is from there, but Naare says she can’t. Why? Why can’t she? Why did she need a tracking device on Roger in the first place? I mean, Vader picked up on Obi-Wan’s presence pretty quickly, so it’s not that the Sith can’t do it. Is this just a hole in Naare’s knowledge? Or is it something else? Perhaps maybe Vader and Obi-Wan’s previous bond allowed them to recognize each other more easily, while because Naare and Rowan didn’t have a genuine bond, she isn’t as familiar with his Force essence? Just spitballing here. Just when I think I know how the Force works I end up spending hours contemplating stuff like this. However, Naare can sense fear… and on a lifeless frozen rock like this, it could only be coming from a few particular people…
It’s easy to see why the Freemakers were kinda freaked out. Adding on to the obvious fact they’re in a constant struggle for their lives as they’re being pursued by a red-blade-wielder who works for the most evil man in the galaxy who desires to do even more evil, they’re in a dark cave, on a cold, unpredictable planet… and there’s a WAMPA!!! OK actually it turns out it’s a baby wampa. A very adorable baby wampa who decides he wants to cuddle with Zander. “Aww! He thinks you’re his mother!” “Yeah but what happens when his real mother shows up?” “You can exchange parenting tips.” XD The family plus their furry addition soon come upon a magnificent array of crystals upon crystals. Amidst all the ice there’s a Kyber Saber fragment in there. So Rowan tries something different and attempts to call the crystal to him. I never fail to be fascinated with Rowan’s connection to the Kyber Saber. I’ve likened it to Ezra’s ability to connect with creatures. But is it just the ancient weapon he has this connection to? Could he, say, connect with other kyber crystals? Maybe in the second season he could use this ability to locate surviving Jedi by connecting with the crystals in their ‘sabers? Interesting thought. Also, how is it the crystal led him to this particular area of this particular cave, but it wouldn’t call out exactly where it was. A test of the Force, perhaps. But whatever the case, Rowan’s calling works, and soon finds the final piece in the palm of his hand. And then THE CAVE COLLAPSES!! Thank goodness for lightsabers. I am definitely glad Rowan evidently pocketed that fragment because I almost expected them to have lost it in the pile of ice. But then I remembered that if they did lose it Rowan could just call out to it and find it again. Yeah the ancient Jedi definitely wanted to make it a challenge. But of course nothing could be easy today as the Freemakers walk out of the cave and find the StarScavenger frozen beneath them with their frozen droid on the side, stuck saying nothing but “genius” until he thaws. An abandoned Rebel base across the way looks like their best bet for now. Even if, well, guess who’s in the base right now? Ensign Durpin and Sub-Ensign Plumestriker. Plumestriker’s just been itching for some action despite his superior’s uninterested lazy mindset. So he leaps at the chance to nab these troublemakers. After much of a scuffle between the graycoats, the Sub-Ensign finally gets out a request for backup… which makes its way to Naare. And then, in the tradition of today’s many surprise special guests, enters Mama Wampa! Thankfully, her battle today is with the Imperials. And that’s the last we saw of Durpin and Plumestriker… for now. I have a feeling we’ll see them again sometime soon. Now, the Freemakers have a battle of their own to fight… and it won’t be nearly so simple. But with some battle of Hoth remains, a few tools, a little creativity, and the Force, they might stand a chance. Also this just occurred to me: if the battle of Hoth hadn’t happened, the Emperor could very well have the Kyber Saber. It may’ve been a terrible defeat, but good has still come out of it, because it’s allowed the Freemakers to bring the fight that will determine the fate of the galaxy. Seeing good coming out of evil never fails to be cool to me 🙂 It’s all quite “genius”! Hehe R0-GR you better be complimenting these kids when you say that XD
So boy, was Graballa’s fleet in for a surprise when a fully-functioning AT-AT and a snowspeeder came right at them! Yeah them Freemakers be livin’ our dreams! I mean wow they pretty much brought down Graballa’s ship right off the bat. And in a twist of great fortune, his ship crashing knocked the StarScavenger right out of the ice! #WIN! Naare proves to be a slightly more stubborn problem though. So much for that lovely snowspeeder. But Kordi’s got this; she’s been wanting to bring some firepower Naare’s way long before they knew she was a darksider 😛 The Eclipse Fighter goes up in smoke, and it looks like they’ve won the day. Unfortunately, again, Naare has this really bad habit of not dying. SHE’S IN AN EXPLODING SPACECRAFT AND SHE DOESN’T DIE. WHAAAAT. But hey I’m not complaining really. She’s a great villain and I wouldn’t want her to go down like that. Mostly I’m just astounded. And then she uses the Force to bring forth a mighty avalanche, something not even a huge, well-armored AT-AT can handle. Now it seems the Imperial Agent has the upper hand… until she doesn’t. Because hey look! We do see Durpin and Plumestriker again, with Mama Wampa and Junior, too! Runnin’ right over her! And I’m serious I actually forgot that happened. How easily power can change hands, amiright?
Taking shelter in a cave, the Freemakers have a minute to breathe… least until Naare shoots them a holo and makes an offer to [possibly] spare [some of] their lives. But what can they do? Rowan can’t best her in a fight, but they surely can’t just turn over the crystal to them… right? For a moment, Rowan considers what would happen if they’d just give up the fragment and go home. But if the Emperor got the Kyber Saber… “no one’s home will ever be safe again”. Basically got gutpunched with feels just now. The Freemakers spent their whole lives up to this point avoiding the war, keeping out of it, not getting involved. The war was not relevant to them, the war didn’t effect them. But when the war tilts to the side of the enemy… it will eventually effect everyone. They’ve gone too far, there’s no turning back. There’s only one thing for the Freemaker family to do. Rowan walks right up to Naare… and hands over the crystal? Naare is delighted at this turn of events and eager to piece the elegant blade together. But the instant she fuses it together… one piece melts, and the whole thing falls apart. Eyup I kinda wondered if the Freemakers might use the crystal’s similarity to ice to their advantage. Ah that was too perfect! Naare is not a happy camper right now, I’ll tell you that. Also btw they’re all gonna have to rebuild their ships and stuff before they can leave Hoth so basically the day only gets worse from here. Happens when you go around trying to kill people. Just sayin’.
Rowan and family have escaped Hoth with the crystal in hand, but where now? Anywhere, ’cause as long as they’re together, they’re home. Kordi and Zander debate for a little as to which world they’re going to, and it’s as they’re doing this that Rowan and Roger quietly walk out and commandeer one of their scavenging vehicles. Over a holo, Rowan explains he feels protecting the crystal is his responsibility, and he no longer wants to put his family in danger because of it. As he puts it “If the Freemakers keep flying together… then they’re not going to fly at all.” With a final heartfelt goodbye, the little scooper flies off into hyperspace, leaving the StarScavenger behind. The sound you just heard was my heart shattering into a million pieces. It’s beautiful the love and dedication he has for his brother and sister, and just as beautiful is his dedication to the Jedi code he barely knows, his desire to protect, to do the right thing, to keep this precious object out of the Empire’s clutches. He’s grown so much ohmygosh… I don’t know whether I’m happy-crying or sad-crying right now. Probably a little of both. Now, only time will tell where the youngest Freemaker will venture to in his efforts to protect the galaxy…
Yup a lot of happy-and-sad-crying right now. Can’t even. Just can’t. AHH THIS PRECIOUS FAMILYYY!! Speaking of which, I probably won’t be posting next week since I’ll be spending time with my own family for Thanksgiving (as well as eating cranberry sauce directly out of the can). Thanks for joining me, readers 😀

Following The Freemakers: The Kyber Saber Crystal Chase

FREEEEEEEMAKERRRRRRRR TIIIIIIIIIIIME *blows air horn*
Was I out of ideas for an opener? Yes, yes I was. Here at Padawanline we’re an honest bunch. And by “we’re” and “bunch”, I mean “I’m” and “person”, but it sounded better using the royal “we”. Yep this ought to be an interesting blog today! Let’s get started digging into the fast-paced excitement of The Kyber Saber Crystal Chase!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode III, The Empire Strikes Out, and Freemakers episodes Peril On Kashyyyk, The Test and The Kyber Saber Crystal Chase

We reunite with the Freemakers right where we left off last episode as they finish up final repairs on the StarScavenger. With a new Kyber Saber fragment in hand and their ship “purring like a nexu”, things are looking hopeful for the first time since yesterday’s frightening events (or however long it’s been… the amount of time that passes in SW confuses me sometimes). Then came a peppering of laserfire from Graballa’s fleet. And the Eclipse Fighter’s joined in too. Freemakers be like “HOW EVEN???” But before they know it, Naare Force-grabs the kyber crystal right out of Rowan’s hands. OH NOES WHYYYYYY. *Sigh* So much for hope. Time for the Freemakers to get the heck outta Tako-Dodge. They set their hyperspace for “anywhere” and fly off. Despite this, Naare doesn’t seem worried. And when a villain doesn’t fret over their prey getting away… it usually means they’ve got something else planned…
None of the Freemakers can figure exactly how she found them, especially when there’s no tracking device on their ship. Rowan feels terrible that, once again, he’s allowed pieces of the ultimate weapon to fall into their enemy’s hands. But Kordi surmises if they can keep at least one crystal out of Naare’s grasp, she won’t be able to reconstruct the Saber and the galaxy will be saved. So Rowan decides they’re heading to a certain water planet I’ve already forgotten the name of to grab the next crystal. To navigate the planet’s depths, Zander reveals his newest creation, the Z-Sub. Unfortunately for him, his siblings find his technological marvel to be adorable. I’d say I get Zan’s feelings on the matter, but it really is pretty darn cute :3 I know I wanna build that Lego set when it comes out! Kordi henceforth and forevermore dubs it the Bubbly Subbly. The Freemaker firstborn is not amused, buuuuut he ends up going with it anyway. To the deep blue sea! Ugh I gotta tell ya I am not good with new planet names… if it’s not readily accessible in the starwars.com databanks I won’t have a clue how to spell it, if I remember it at all! 😛 It is a really cool planet though. I wonder if it’s got any sentient life on it, or if it’s just a wild planet like Dagobah. It certainly does have life on it though, as it seems a massive anglerfish-like beast is using the Saber fragment as a light source. I’m guessing that the ancient Jedi probably didn’t hide it there. The fish probably found the crystal and took it for itself later on. The idea of a creature that uses found objects for their lures is seriously cool. Even though yeah it’s causing some major problems for our heroes today. The fish gives chase for a while until the Freemakers realize their now-broken light was competing with his lure. Once Rowan repairs it with the Force, the creature and the sub make a trade and go on their merry ways. Success! But then… NAARE?? AGAIN?? With the Fighter tethered to the sub, their best move is to head back underwater. The Agent’s ship was built for the stars, not the sea, which works well in the Freemaker’s favor as the Eclipse Fighter’s controls get fried. Zander made a spectacular move as he shot the sub back into the StarScavenger, but unfortunately, though the Fighter couldn’t fly, Naare still swiftly takes the new crystal for her own. Kordi insists Roger get get them into hyperspace now… while they’re still on the planet. What happens is magnificent. The force of the lightspeed jump causes the waters to rise in a massive wave. And Naare and her spacecraft are caught right in it. Truly MAGNIFICENT. But the score remains Naare: 2. Freemakers: 0. And Naare is well-aware of this. She’s usually so… well, short-tempered, to put it mildly. I’m seriously impressed with how chill she’s been today. But honestly she’s even scarier when she’s chill than when she’s full-blown enraged. Also the thing with Graballa and Dengar. It seems Vader’s not the only one to show up late for his dramatic entrance XD
Ooh finally a new paragraph! So the Freemaker’s next stop is Naboo. Beautiful, peaceful, well-populated-enough-to-help-them-lay-low Naboo! Unfortunately it’s also the Naboo that’s home to the new Palapatine Museum. OMG THIS CONCEPT. IT IS PERFECT. AND MAKES SO MUCH SENSE. Why wouldn’t the Emperor have a whole educational building dedicated to his greatness on his homeworld? Of all the places to hide a Kyber Saber crystal though…! Also Wic Cooper, “Palpatine’s biggest fan“, literally cuts in line to get the most expensive tour they’ve got. And this is a museum dedicated to Darth Sidious. Cooper you have no clue how messed-up this all is. Anyway, this calls for a master plan! That’s why R0-GR’s puttin’ on his fake ‘stache. OK actually Zander’s the one with the master plan, but it does still involve the droid. Zan’s just an ordinary deliveryman with a droid for the Clone Wars exhibit! But as soon as he runs into Durpin and Plumestriker… he’s an ordinary deliveryman with a fake mustache. Oh yes I missed Durpin and Plumestriker! It’s been too long! Now they’re museum officials, and Durpin is happy just to be doin’ nothing much of anything. Plumestriker doesn’t seem to share the opinion but he is Durpin’s subordinate, so whatcha gonna do, right? But while they go about their “business” (read: playing dejarik), the Freemakers go about some business of their own. With Roger on the inside, the sibs are able to get in without a hitch. But about two seconds in Zander darts off to the gift shop. I don’t blame him I have a serious thing for museum swag. And museums in general. Were I living in their galaxy I’d probably not be as fond of the Imperial merch, but in this galaxy, all I want right now is that little AT-AT XD Kordi and Rowan remind him to remain focused (and also that btdubs Palpatine wouldn’t bat an eyelash at killing them so why would you buy his merch?) but man… this museum is a treasure trove of beautiful distractions. Roger goes off to talk to some old (deactivated) friends, Zander can’t resist the allure of the vintage starships… even Kordi isn’t immune when she eyes all the pretty Queen Amidala dresses! That made me laugh so hard, because honestly I’m just like her in that way. Most of the time, I’ll dress casually and chill livin’ my average-American life, but I do love to dress up and act fancy from time to time XD Who knew financially-attuned Kordi would have such rich tastes? Also I really like the museum covers more than just Palpatine himself, but every aspect of his devious plan, which I just realized is actually kinda sad… but at risk of me talking about Clone Wars philosophy I should just move on back to the story. I never thought I’d see the day when Rowan had more focus than the rest of his family, but that day has come. OK well he was briefly distracted by a floor buffer, but still not as long as the others. Not that things go perfectly by any means though. Rowan was startled by a Palpatine animatronic and backed into a giant Palpatine statue that knocked over the other Palpatine statues and I’m literally already tired of saying “Palpatine” in this paragraph. And then one thing led to another and there was a… small explosion. Who’s bright idea was it put fully-armed blasters and N1 starfighters on display anyway?? Plumestriker won’t let Durpin ignore that. So he presses an alarm button and from behind the doors come a whole squad of storms. Wait… were those stormtroopers standing behind the door the whole time? Just waiting for something to go wrong? That must be insanely boring. But either way, it’s time for action! Whether Durpin likes it or not! Another question: though Kordi absolutely rocked the classic Queen Amidala dress, how did she do the makeup? Did they have actual samples of the makeup on display or does she actually carry some face paint around? And how’d she do it in the dark to begin with? The world may never know, but again, it’s fun seeing the secretly-fancy side of the Freemaker Bosslady. But now they’ve got stormtroopers staring them down with the dork Imps in tow. Plumestriker recognized them and had no problem ordering his men to fire… until THE EMPEROR HIMSELF SHOWED UP. I wasn’t really freaked out though, I figured it might’ve been Rowan taking advantage of the 50% off sale on the Palpatine voice changers. He orders them to let the “generous donors” go and Durpin is happily demoted to ensign. And turns out the kyber crystal was hidden away in the Queen’s headpiece. Y’know wow that must be one ancient headpiece if that was where the Jedi had hidden it all along. Wonder if Padme or Sabe ever noticed the small sharp pain whenever they put it on? And also why the ancient Jedi thought that was a good hiding place. But either way it worked out well for the Freemakers! Oh they weren’t gonna get off that easy though… look! It’s Naare! Again! And this time with Dengar! Of course this couldn’t just be easy. Also funny Kordi and Zander and I were thinking the same thing when Roger pulled out a loaded blaster on their foes. It just seems like an all-around bad idea, man! Insurance must be steeeeeep. But then again this is Palpatine we’re talking about “I AM THE INSURANCE!” XD Naare faces Rowan head-on this time, clearly looking forward to another win. But this time, Rowan fights back and Force-grabs it himself. Oooh Force fights are always fascinating to me. Who has the greater focus, who has the stronger ability? Unfortunately (also getting kinda tired of saying that), Naare gets into his head and takes it for herself. However, Rowan’s not going down without a fight, and unsheathes the red blade. OK am I the only person who really loves the imagery here? Our hero is clothed in black and fights with a red lightsaber, while our villain wears the traditional garb of a Jedi and wields a blue-blade. It’s seriously fascinating. As though an illustration that the light and dark lie in all, regardless of who we believe we are. No Sith is too far gone unless they choose to do so. Just as no Jedi is 100% pure of heart all the time. We’re human. We’re imperfect. But we always have a choice. After this episode I definitely toyed around with the wondering if Rowan might ever walk down the dark path Naare did, and if she might ever return to the light. Oh I just love talking SW philosophy! It’s so legittttt. This duel was equal parts exciting and terrifying, as we’re finally getting to see Rowan in a duel, but we’re all aware he’s not as well-trained as Naare is… and she fights dirty and mercilessly. So I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, knowing that one move and someone could be dead. Or minus a limb. And darn it all, Naare won again as she slammed Rowan’s lightsaber out of his grip, and followed that up by Force-grabbing him and throwing him into the N1. Now she approaches Rowan with two blades in hand, dragging them along the ground, surely about to end her pawn’s life, and I’m basically sick with fear at this point. “With me, you could’ve reached your destiny”. To which Rowan awesomely replies “I’m going to reach for something else.” Anyone else just realize how amazing that line is? Naare implies his destiny could’ve been with the dark, but Rowan knows he has a choice. Also it was a pun because he was about to drop the N1 on her, but it’s still amazing all the same. And like that, the starfighter explodes and sets off a chain reaction, most certainly sending everyone packing. With the museum falling down around them, it looks like the only kyber crystal they’ve got was in the blue-blade Rowan has now claimed as his own. It’s only when they’re aboard the StarScavenger once more they find out exactly how it is she knew their every move… Roger’s pack O.O *SHOCKING TWIST*
Turns out Naare actually somehow survived the wreckage. I was relieved in some ways because she’s an awesome villain and I didn’t really want her dead yet if she was going to die at all, but I was also kinda freaked out because… well, she’s a villain. And she’s only a a centimeter away from reconstructing a handheld superweapon. Though as Graballa suggests, she gonna have to do some explainin’ to her boss regarding all this property damage… but that’s not important right now. The Imperial Agent’s quest is almost complete. Everything that happens in the next few episodes will determine the very fate of the galaxy. *OMINOUS ENDING AGAIN*
Oh wow oh wow what an episode! So great I kinda messed it up at the end. I do regret to say this’ll be the last Following The Freemakers post for a while, since we’ll soon be reuniting with the Rebels. If I could I’d write about SW all day, but I can’t. But I’ll most definitely write on the next episode when I can. So thank you for joining me and let’s get hyped for SWR Season 3!

Following The Freemakers: Race On Tatooine

TWILIGHT545: SUPERSTAR BLOGGER GAL! is here again to deliver another Closer Look on The Freemaker Adventures! And yes, I did have some trouble coming up with an opening on this post. I honestly can’t remember the last time I didn’t. But enough blabbing from me, let’s just start talking about the thrilling Race On Tatooine already.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode I, The Yoda Chronicles, and Freemakers episodes The Lost Treasure Of Cloud City, Crossing Paths, and Race On Tatooine

Less than a minute into the episode, we see Dengar blast his way out of the Cloud City prison, gracefully freefall using his headwrap as a parachute, and commandeer a cloud car. Just. like. that. After years of getting little respect in the SW universe (with the exception of his fabulously awesome appearance in TCW), we’re finally really really seeing what Dengar can really do. And he is just amazing. Inventive, cunning, and fierce are words that come to mind. But oh right I forgot… Dengar and his crew getting out of jail is bad news for our heroes. Especially when he shows a certain business card to his slimy boss, Graballa… ohhhh danggg…
This is all particularly bad because Rowan most certainly don’t got time to deal with anyone else with questionable motives. He’s got Naare to worry about. Something about her being a Jedi and killing that Force-flower doesn’t add up… unless she isn’t who she says she is. I imagine the time he spent with Luke also got him thinking. There is an edge to Naare, a forcefulness, one might say a darkness… her methods, her teachings, they are based in Jedi training, but there are whispers of the Dark Side throughout. I doubt Naare ever explained the Dark Side of the Force to Rowan, as he could use that knowledge against her. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he picked up some stuff on that from Luke, too. I’m sorry I’m rambling on this but there’s something fascinating about all this, about the difference between these two masters, between light and dark, between selfless and selfish. He knows what a true Jedi looks like now, and I betcha even if Naare hadn’t killed the Force-flower, he would’ve seen through her disguise soon enough. Either way, Rowan knows there’s something not right about her. Too bad Roger is completely not listening to his ponderings. He’s about to voice his concerns to Kordi, but all she’s concerned about right now is parts and jobs and getting the job done right. And then… “It’s not like I can just clap my hands and a job’ll come up!” *Clap clap* “OMG WE JUST GOT A JOB!!!” “Quick do it again!” *Clap clap* “Blast it was just a coincidence.” XD Ben Quadrinaros needs a pit crew, and he’s gonna pay them major creds to do it. I’d say Kordi and Zander are SOLD. Also seeing Quadrinaros in SW for the first time in 17 years made me positively giddy. Call me weird but I love that adorable bigheaded old racer dude! Looks like heavy discussions will have to wait.
Speaking of the Dark Side, what’s Naare up to? Getting chewed out by her bosses again, that’s what. The Darths want results, not excuses, and make their point using holo glitches as an example. You’d think Sidious would have a little more patience, considering the years he spent slowly taking over the Republic, but nahhh he just wants to win the war already. Not unlike the whole Force-sensitive clone experiment he tried a while back, but you know how that went. Judging by all the stuff she Force-threw in a fit of rage, I’d say she’s a little frustrated. “And I broke my favorite kaffe mug! This day just gets better and better!” And then just when she needed Rowan the most, she found the Freemakers were gone. Mondays, amiright? 😛 Though she may want to work on keeping her angry screams to herself. Actually she’s got a lot of things she needs to work on. Like people skills. Y’know Grey Griffin voiced Ventress back in the days of the Clone Wars Microseries. I can definitely hear a similarity between the two when Naare goes all rage-mode-y. Yay random voice acting tidbits! OK moving on…
When it comes to working on podracers, Zander is now the Freemaker Bossman. These racing machines are his life bro, and when a famous podracer like Quadrinaros is behind the controls, there’s no time to waste! Kordi’s all “Is that what I sound like??” XD So yes I love seeing Ben Quadrinaros again, even if he does turn out to be somewhat of a traitor because he was working for Graballa the whole time. But hey he’s still a good guy, just a good guy who really really didn’t want to be killed by a Hutt and didn’t know what else to do. Hopefully we’ll see him again soon, and in a better light that doesn’t involve him siding with a baddie. But enough of my fangirly nostalgia THE FREEMAKERS ARE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE! Graballa may deliver some stellar one-liners but he is 100% a genuine threat. And then JABBA THE HUTT showed up. With a mile’s worth of Gamorrean Guards and BOBA FETT. YES. BOBA FETT. Who is apparently BFFs with Dengar. Haha yes I love that these two scheming scummy hunters are buddies. Bros before bounties! Also it brought me great joy hearing Dee Baker’s voice behind that helmet, considering he’s never voiced a clone for Lego SW until this point, and also just because he does an amazing awesome job at it. So while Jabba decides to have a little “conversation” with his cousin and the hunters hang out, the Freemakers see this as an opportunity to podrace their way outta here. Hehe I love Jabba’s smug smile when Graballa realizes they got away XD
So let’s just spend the rest of the blog deciphering the deeper meaning behind Anakin’s claim “I’m the only human who can do it, you know”. That was my first thought when I heard they were gonna be podracing. Obviously, Anakin’s Force abilities gave him great reflexes to handle the speed and unpredictability of a podrace. We know that. And maybe, had Rowan been driving, I would’ve chalked it up to that as well. But Zander‘s the one at the controls. Granted, he’s not doing terribly great at it, but he does have his siblings and droid barely hanging on while they’re being chased by bounty hunters on speederbikes, so that could be part of it. But they literally don’t crash and/or burn (at least up until the very end when Zander takes his hands off the yoke) And I’d always assumed that, short of having a few thousand midichlorians, only other, more dexterous, species could handle such a dangerously fast vehicle. Maybe it’s just that most humans who’d tried to drive a podracer just weren’t good at it? That or Zander is Force-sensitive too, but I highly doubt that, so let’s just leave it at Zander is really really really good. Or at least good enough that no one dies. Or maybe Anakin was just highly misinformed from being on Tatooine his whole young life. *Shrugs* Makes me wish they did something like Rebels Recon for the Freemakers so I could shoot my questions to Pablo Hidalgo. But anyway, the chase takes them on some dangerous turns, including a turn right into an actual podrace. First of all, hearing the actual original voice of Fode playing him was mind-blowing (I have a slight “thing” for Episode I aliens evidently). Second of all, Zander’s overjoyed shout of “PODRACING!!!!!” made me die laughing. And it sounded pretty much exactly like me whenever I see something SW-related. But ohh yesss they’re racing for their very lives in an actual race. I love. So much. Their pursuers don’t make it easy on them, and all the while Rowan and Kordi are doing their best to hang on to the engines, and, in a few instances, fix the engines at the same time. And oh yeah let’s not forget when Dengar and Rowan fought hand-to-hand while STANDING ON THE ENGINE and Rowan defeated him using a spare rod as a lightsaber stand-in. SOOO AWESUMM. Oh but right that wasn’t a spare part that was some kind of stabilizer and the pod was thrown out of control. But ultimately it’s that move that sends them spiraling across the finish line and puts a lovely trophy in their hands. Elsewhere, Darth Vader suddenly sensed a disturbance… a feeling that somewhere, a longstanding record of his had just been broken XP
So the Freemakers won the podrace, but not the race. Graballa’s goons are still out there, and they won’t be able to get back to the StarScavenger (yes I only now realized it’s spelled as one word) anytime soon. They need a hero, they need a Jedi, they need Naare. And Rowan’s all “Whaaaaa… No we don’t…!” but it don’t matter what he thinks, the overall opinion of the room is #TeamNaare. And with a little rewiring of R0-GR they’re able to shoot their “Jedi friend” a comm. Huh she sounded mostly concerned about Rowan atm wonder why…? 😛 But regardless of her intentions, she’s their only hope as Graballa and his men walk over… and with a very large number of blasters. Kordi tries to use her salesperson superpowers and negotiate with the Hutt, but when it comes to making ca$h off those Kyber Saber crystals, he don’t negotiate nothin’. They really could use a miracle right now. Good thing Rowan found a whole crate full of ’em. Sabine would be proud at what happened next. Thermal detonators FTW. “Next time… I offer Boba Fett double.” XD Unfortunately, the crate wasn’t full forever, and the Freemakers were out of tricks. But that’s about when the Eclipse Fighter arrived. I regret I haven’t talked about that pretty ship more but it really is a sight to behold. I am curious though whether Eclipse Fighter is its name or its brand/type. But whatever the case, it’s definitely one of my favorite new SW ships. And if you think the Eclipse is impressive, wait ’til you see what her pilot can do! Again yes I know all this Jedi stuff is just for show but Naare’s fighting skills are truly epic and it’s awesome getting to see her really put them to use as she completely pwns Graballa’s crew. Zander is smitten, Kordi is genuinely impressed, and Rowan questions why he ever doubted her. Naare orders the Freemakers to the fighter, but the hunters quickly get the better of Rowan’s siblings and droid. Nothing the Jedi Master can’t handle tho. Stuck in the Eclipse’s cockpit, Rowan looks for anything that could possibly help and comes upon a lightsaber… with a red blade. And I’m betting Luke told him about the kind of people who use red blades. And as if to confirm all of his concerns and doubts, THE EMPEROR COMES ON THE COMM. And what he says is utterly gut-wrenchingly terrifying. “Slice up his family! That’ll make him talk.” O.O Not gonna lie I gave a squeak-gasp of complete horror at that. And I cannot think of a decent segue now; I’m still recovering from the shock. All I can say is ROWAN KNOWS. HE KNOWS MAN. And just about then along comes the rest of the Freemakers and everyone’s favorite Darksider-next-door. Graballa isn’t gonna get ’em today… but you know what they say about “out of the frying pan and into the fryer”. Wait I don’t think that makes sense in this context. The point is, Naare will guaranteed be a problem. But don’t tell Zander and Kordi, they’re pretty much Naare’s number one fans now. Judging by her face as they grouphugged her, I don’t think the feeling is mutual. She makes very clear to Rowan that he’s not going anywhere without her from now on. “…You never know what dangers may be waiting” (paraphrased because I literally can’t remember the exact line I heard a minute ago). Rowan seems to agree… and that’s why he holds his so-called master’s red blade behind his back. OMINOUS ENDINGGGG.
AHHHHH SO MUCH DRAMA. But also AHHHHHH SO MUCH AWESOME!! Until next post…

Following The Freemakers: The Lost Treasure Of Cloud City

Time for another adventure alongside the Freemaker fam! Excited about doing this one, ’cause if I were the kind of person who could actually pick favorites, this might be my favorite episode so far. Of course you know me they’re all my favorites but regardless, The Lost Treasure Of Cloud City is a real treasure 🙂 So let’s just skip the usual awkward cliche segue into the episode and just start already.
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode V, Episode VI, TCW storyarc “The Citadel”, and Freemaker episode The Lost Treasure Of Cloud City

So I love how the episode opens up a little earlier in the timeline, right smack dab near the end of Empire as said Empire starts taking over Bespin. As Lando heads off in the Falcon, he gives Lobot the job of protecting some priceless something hidden away in the Governor’s quarters. BTW his quarters are amazing. So funky freshhh XD And that disco Cantina music tho! Not forgetting his happenin’ roots! Unfortunately, Lobot’s not able to get to the treasure in time before two ‘troopers bust down the door. Oh noes! Now what??
A few weeks later (give or take), we find Rowan hard at work Jedi-ing and his siblings hard at work trying to make a few creds. Nobody’s really getting that far though. Kordi lost a potential sale, and Rowan’s having the hardest time trying to use the Force to put two pieces together. Naare’s all “THIS IS IMPORTANT. YOU MUST FORCE THEM TOGETHER!” Hmm call me crazy but that’s not the most Jedi-y concept. And then suddenly she’s got an incoming message from her superiors. Pff can you imagine if they had ringtones and suddenly the Imperial March started blasting out? XD Yeah Vader and Sidious aren’t really thrilled she’s taking so long with this. Naare insists that training Rowan is an important part of the job. To that, the Emperor suggests that maybe her apprentice is actually scheming against her, instead of the other way around. Hey, when you’re a Sith, someone’s pretty much always after the power you’ve got, so it’s not impossible. Of course, Rowan is the sweetest smol child there is, and the idea of him deceiving someone like that is ridiculous, but they don’t know that. And so the Darths shall keep calling their agent every five seconds until they get results! Just send it all to voicemail, girl.
Anyway Rowan is pretty frustrated right now. There’s so much pressure riding on him to find the Kyber Saber crystals and save the galaxy and junk, and his inability to do something relatively simple with the Force has him down. Zander offers that maybe he needs to relax a little and not force it. And maybe relax a little and enjoy the lower-level podraces! Sure they’re loud and wild and dangerous, but I know that’d bring me out of a funk! Unfortunately Rowan’s a little height-challenged and can’t see much of anything. So he takes a walk around the lower ring, where he happens upon some ol’ smoothie and a walking carpet offering a reward to whoever can recover a certain priceless something from Cloud City. Knowing Kordi was a bit down from their recent lack of profits, he quickly offers to take the job. Lando’s a little hesitant, but since no one else wants to get involved with the Alliance or the Empire, it looks like the Freemakers just got hired. Also isn’t it great seeing Lando and Chewbacca again? Like with Rebels, I love getting to know all these new heroes, but it’s always fun when they run into familiar faces 🙂
Speaking of familiar faces oh look it’s Dengar! Oh, and the headbutter brothers Raam and Baash, too. The three’ve been searching endlessly for the whereabouts of the Freemaker boy and haven’t had any luck. But the bros do know about a certain job that could pay a pretty penny… also second lunch sounds like a wonderful idea! BRB I’m gonna get something to munch.
*Comes back with cookie* OK so where were we? Oh yeah “YOU TOOK HIM TO THE LOWER RING?? WHY NOT GIVE HIM DEATHSTICKS WHILE YOU’RE AT IT!” XD I just love how they find ways to weave every inch of the SW galaxy into this show :3 Though she had some problems with Zander’s idea of brotherly bonding, Kordi is definitely in when there’s a small fortune involved. They leave Roger in charge while they’re gone, making it clear he not tell a soul what they’re doing. Anddd just then Naare walked in. Roger just about sang like a canary. Only thing is, he didn’t tell Naare everything, and what she got out of it was that Rowan was after another Kyber Saber fragment. Suddenly the Emperor’s crazy idea wasn’t so crazy after all. Next stop, Bespin. Y’all don’t doublecross the doublecrosser!! And don’t forget Dengar and his crew, they’re coming too! Oh boy…
On board the Star Scavenger, Rowan wrestles with those bricks again, and fails, again. To help cheer him up, Zander allows his little bro to take them out of hyperspace. Though a small moment, I feel like it’s worth mentioning. Considering it wasn’t long ago he wasn’t allowed to touch anything, it feels a little like Rowan’s grown up some. Plus, it’s just too darn sweet on Zan’s part. I love we really get to see the Freemakers’ tight family bond in this episode. But more on that later. With some fabulous matching jumpsuits, the crew talks their way past the stormtroopers without a problem. And they have no clue that two forms of trouble landed nearby. Oh and this line: “You will take a long march off a short platform…” IT’S PERFECT MAN. SUCH BURN! Honestly it needs to be on a t-shirt. So while Zander and Rowan take a look at that carbon freezing chamber, Kordi sneaks into Calrissian’s place. She be diggin’ that groovy vibe… also probably the fact she’s clearly working for a pretty rich dude 😀
“Ooooh buttons!!” *Runs hand across panel and turns off the repulsorlift briefly* Yeah so maybe Rowan hasn’t grown up that much XP Yeah it’s fun watching Zander and Rowan goofing around and throwing around some puns while “fixing up” the chamber. Though it turns out Ro actually finds the problem. “Somehow that coolant tube was cut in two” Hmm I wonder how that coulda happened… to think, a seriously epic confrontation happened in here a short time ago! So so cool! And I know I keep saying the same thing over and over again but I can’t help it. Rowan decides to try and reattach the hoses with the Force, but once again isn’t successful. Seeing how disappointed in himself Ro is, Zander quietly manually puts the two hoses back together and gives him the credit. Seriously omgosh he’s being such a good brother today… even if it all sorta resulted in Rowan getting frozen in carbonite. The second he fell through I was all “OH DANG”. I think we all were. Zander is horrified. And then Kordi runs in and also is horrified. And then Dengar and his goons run in and grab the million-credit case. And then Naare runs in and Force-grabs the assumptively kyber-crystal-filled case “for safekeeping”. Let’s just say nobody in the room is happy right now. And then Raam and Baash realize that the block of carbonite is the one they were looking for. Dengar and crew make a run for it with their “precious cargo”, Kordi and Zander are after them, and Naare still has no idea what’s actually going on. I was genuinely worried they’d get away and we wouldn’t be seeing Rowan for a few episodes. Determined to keep Dengar from flying off with his brother, Zander grabs Naare’s lightsaber and destroys a main hose… a hose that might keep the city in the clouds afloat. It certainly does provide some benefits, I mean, the lack of gravity does help them get Rowan back. And his carbonite form mixed with the gravity issue makes an excellent magic carpet of sorts for Zander, Kordi, and Naare to chase down Dengar. So ultimately they get their bro to safety and the case, too. Only issue still is that… riiiiight they’re falling to their doom. And if Legends literature is correct, I’m pretty sure there’s a liquid metal planet core awaiting them O.O Also did I mention Naare may’ve been knocked out during the wild ride? So that means the only one who possibly fix the repulsorlift generator right now is Rowan. And though Rowan is thawed out, he can’t see. Interesting thought: in the Citadel arc in TCW, nobody got carbon sickness from the freezing process, assumptively because they weren’t in there that long. Whereas Han was in their for a long while so it made sense why it had an adverse effect. But Rowan wasn’t in there even as long as the Jedi and clones were earlier and he was effected. So… I guess carbon sickness just depends on the individual? Or did the Jedi and Clones do something to prevent it, like some sort of anti-carbon-sickness vaccine? Good question. Either way fact is Rowan really really doesn’t think he can do this now, even more so than before. But with time running short, Zander convinces him to at least try. And oh my land what happens next is so so beautiful. Kordi and Zander stand beside their brother as he gives it all he’s got. I was seriously crying here people. The Freemaker kids may not always get along, but they will always stand by each other whatever comes their way. And that was the worst understatement ever forgive me. But wow it leaves me at a loss for words! And this time, he does it. Rowan fixed the generator and this chunk of the city returns to the clouds where it belongs. Isn’t it funny how ultimately Rowan learned how to better his use of the Force not because of his official Force-wielding Jedi master, but thanks to his average everyday non-Force-wielding family. OMG IT’S STILL SO AMAZING I CAN’T I CAN’T RIGHT NOW. HOLY COW THE FEELS. I’M SORRY I’M BUTCHERING THIS INCREDIBLE EPISODE AND I GUARANTEE YOU I WILL THINK OF A MORE ELOQUENT DESCRIPTION LATER AFTER I WRITE THIS BUT WHO CARES RIGHT NOW AHHHH I LOVE THIS BEAUTIFUL FAMILY ❤
So Lando was quite happy to be reunited with his lost treasure, which turned out to be his fabulous cape. Hey either way Kordi was happy she got an armload of shiny gold credits XD As for Naare, well, she may actually want to take that vacation now. All this paranoia over nothing done wore her out! Dengar, on the other hand, may be stuck in a Cloud City prison, but he does now have a little business card that will help make that bounty hunting of his easier. And the headbutter boys finally got some good food! Looks like things worked out pretty much for everyone today (except for Naare I guess, but at least it turned out Rowan wasn’t doublecrossing her so that’s kinda good)… which may not work out well for everyone later. But for now, it’s great to see the Freemakers finally win, and whatever happens… this family is a force to be reckoned with.
Aww yay such a wonderful episoooooode :3 I’m so sorry again that I kinda flubbed the post with a sudden inability to put my thoughts into words. But I hope you got something out of it. Perhaps I’ll do a recap post at the end of the season like I do with Rebels to amend for anything I didn’t explain well. But until then…
