Rebel Transmissions: Flight Of The Defender

All right, so let’s head back to Lothal for this week’s Rebel Transmission! I do apologize that my one-episode-post-per-week sched makes it harder for you to get the up-to-date Rebs thoughts you might be looking for. But as this is the last season, I want to savor every little moment ❤ Anyway, on to Flight Of The Defender!

Contains spoilers from Rebels episodes The Occupation and Flight Of The Defender. Ideally, you should be caught up with every episode prior to these before reading. Events from episodes after these will not be covered.

Star Wars and cuteness: it’s a time-honored tradition that began with the endearing presence of characters like Artooie and Chewie and has gone on for ages since, especially in these days when we’re surrounded by characters and creatures like BB-8, porgs, and of course, LOTHCATS! Right out of the gate we get a darling trio of these space kittehs and they bring me so so much joy! The one grooming Zeb got me somewhere between cracking up and “aww”ing my head off X3 They just steal the show in the best way, always up to something new and adorable! And they can still give a couple of bucketheads a run for their credits! I’ll always champion SW’s use of cuteness because it’s another one of those things that makes these stories and worlds feel so real and relatable. Plus, cute things help make dark times a little bit lighter, and as you know, the perfect balance of dark and light is one of those things I love so much about Star Wars 🙂 And some lightness was definitely needed right now as there’s a new deadlier-than-ever Defender on its way…

I think it’s an unarguable fact that whenever the Rebs take control of an Imperial craft, we’re in for a good time, or at least a good fight. Brings back some good memories there… just this time the stakes might be a lot lot higher. But even with the flight cut short by the Imps, we definitely have some fun with Ezra and Sabine today. It was thrilling watching Sabine leave a trail of firepower at every turn when she first set out. And then Ezra’s piloting skills?? Oh my gosh he’s gotten so good! These two are a force of nature and I loved every minute of their showdown in the skies! And I gotta say, I liked the TIE Defenders the first time we saw ’em, but now I love them. So fast! So firey! And that sound! Whoo!! Not to mention those cool little jet trails it leaves when it spins. If only they weren’t a huge huge problem for the Rebel Alliance, I might love them more… that and maybe if they had some more seatbelts/restraints, considering the way the kids got thrown around in there.
Also can we talk about Thrawn for a sec ’cause WOW he just keeps getting epic-er. With that cool, unrattled stare and his blaster aimed straight and true, I wouldn’tve been too surprised if one shot had brought the Defender down. That is what I’m callin’ #Thrawnfidence! 😀 Yeah we have to make that hashtag a thing now. Absolutely.

OK so I have to say something further about Ezra and Sabine ’cause they just make the best team right now, and in really every episode this season so far. I’ve been thinking back on the first couple seasons a lot lately and it’s amazing to look at how much their bond has grown and strengthened since then. Earlier we saw Ezra standing alongside Sabine on Mandalore, and now vice versa is true amidst all the tragedy surrounding Ez’s homeworld. I just love that loyalty, their honesty with each other, and how they’re so different sometimes, but they’re always on the same wavelength anyway. You see all those elements in a big way this episode. And one thing that caught my attention in this one in an unexpected way, was watching those few times Ezra held Sabine while she was out. There’s something so endlessly noble and tender about that gesture, small though it may be, that it makes me swoon a little (that, and write this whole paragraph here). Of course, it’s easy for me to just make this all about the potentially-romantic angle of their relationship, but looking back on how far they’ve come as a whole, I find I love them together for simply who they are now: Ezra and Sabine, the kids of the Ghost family, the best of friends, and one of the most explosively dynamic Rebel duos to date. Wherever they go in their relationship from here, it’s still nothing short of something really special :3

And obviously we must talk about the lothwolves. They are astounding, aren’t they? As you can figure from the first paragraph, I’m a big animal nerd, with a particular soft spot for furry things including felines and canines. Naturally, I was quite fond of that old idea Dave Filoni discussed at Celebration 2016 of Ahsoka riding a massive white wolf. I was happy to see the concept made it into the canon in some way when I spotted some cave paintings resembling the creature showed up in Thrawn’s studies in Season 3, but little did I expect them to take on such a big role this season. With a creature as mysterious as this, there’s not much I can say other than reiterate again how beautiful, majestic, and intriguing they are. And how awe-inspiring its size is, how chilling its voice is, and that amazingly wise look in its eyes. I’m really excited to further dig into what the lothwolf brings to the SW mythos. They’re just really really neat even if there’s so much I still don’t understand.
But with Star Wars, there’s still a lot of joy in the mysteries…

The Celebration Orlando 2017 Post!

First of all, I apologize for not having finished my SWR season recap post this past week like I said I would. Stuff came up. But right now, the biggest, most important thing to talk about is CELEBRATION! A time of year I look forward to as much as Christmas and my own birthday! There’s so much awesome stuff to talk about, so I’ll update this with every exciting panel I see so I can share my fangirling with all of you!
NOTE: There will be spoilers depending on the panel I’m discussing.

40 YEARS OF STAR WARS
They kicked this thing off with a bang that would rival the destruction of the two Death Stars and Starkiller base combined! Every time I turned around they brought out a guest worth screaming about! To see the master himself, George Lucas, there… oh my gosh I screamed so loud. And then followed that up each time afterward. This was a hugely special panel for so many reasons. One for me was that, I honestly haven’t watched many of the bonus features (don’t always have the time sigh), and I hadn’t seen a number of the actors and filmmakers interviewed before this. It was a marvelous first time! I’m not gonna lie I cried a lot too. That opening video hit me like a boulder-dozer of feels! And oh that dedication to Carrie Fisher… and then the awe-inspiring surprise John Williams performance! Every minute was precious and stunning and wonderful I absolutely can’t! I can only imagine where Celebration goes from here!

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Ian McDiarmid always looks so young to me. He’s just amazing.
– Hayden Christiansen still is so much Anakin it’s incredible. I’ve missed seeing his face around here something awful!
– On that note, I was so glad to hear briefly from Qui-Gon and Mace! Er… Liam Neeson and Samuel L. Jackson, I mean. To know they still remember and value their time spent in the films and appreciate the fans is utterly heart-warming.
– Also, something about the image of a darksider Jar Jar Binks is actually really epic.
– Hearing the stories of how George and the original cast met was an absolute treat in every way possible.
– Mark Hamill’s original audition video is incredible. HIS ACTING, YOU GUYS. IT’S SUBLIME. EVEN WAY BACK WHEN ON AN AUDITION TAPE.
– Somehow I’d forgotten how tall Peter Mayhew was and now I doubt I’ll ever forget.
– I adore Anthony Daniels. I know that’s a no-brainer but, again, seeing these actors outside of the films and hearing them tell their stories of making them… it’s… words can barely describe.
– Also first time seeing Billy Dee Williams interviewed I think ever. He’s still the smoothest! 😀
– When the Harrison Ford showed up… I think everything in me exploded. I had no idea he’d never been to a Celebration prior, so that made it all the more special.
– His seamless Indiana Jones drop cracked me up. HE IS SUCH A DELIGHT OMG!
– Safe to say Carrie’s daughter has one of the best dresses ever. Her speech was beautiful.
– Like I said before, the dedication video was so moving and so special… when they started showing all the little girls in Leia costumes I think I really started weeping. In a good way though.
– And again, a standing ovation almost doesn’t seem good enough for John Williams. If I could fly or hover and applaud, I would. Same for the spectacular work done by the orchestra! Like wow! Made me want to go and buy all the soundtracks I haven’t yet bought right now.
– I clapped ’til my hands were numb, man. But that’s normal 🙂

SIDESTORY: FORCES OF DESTINY ANNOUNCEMENT
Just read the article on the new Forces Of Destiny microseries and product line and I’m excited. New animated shorts starring the bossladies of the Star Wars galaxy! How great is that?! I love the character designs and style, and since they’re all canon, it’s useless to resist! It’s really nice seeing them trying a line specifically aimed at girls. Star Wars has never been short on awesome female characters, and certainly never short on female fans (such as myself), and it’s not that it was a need, by any means (I’m always going to be mainly a 3.75 collector myself), but just imagine how many young girls might be further drawn into the saga on part of these new stories and merch? These princesses, Jedi, and rebels are about to draw in a whole new generation to the fangirl side of the Force, and that’s something to get excited about! 😀

DAVE FILONI: ANIMATED ORIGINS AND UNEXPECTED FATES
You know me, I could never turn down an opportunity to hang with Dave and Pablo! I absolutely loved digging into the origins of so many great characters and stories that we’ve seen told this last near-decade. I’m gonna be honest I was only able to watch this via livestream and was disgusted I couldn’t see the beautiful art and storyreel footage. But even so, it was nothing short of a fantastic panel with two of my favorite filmmakers. Bro I could listen to their stories for days. And naturally, this all got me really hyped for what we’re going to see Saturday…

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Those Clones and Rebel cosplayers that came up early on? They were astounding. The Hondo was so perfect it was like he was real. The young Rex and S3 Ezra were perfect too. Like wow man. Much applause.
– I love that Ahsoka was almost Ashla! Who’da thunk? Just a neat little connection.
– I’m ecstatic to hear Wolffe and Gregor might be back! Also the Nine Old Men thing warmed my little heart. I would’ve loved to have seen that :3
– These stories are literally so amazing. We almost had Savage and Satine in Rebels! I understand why they didn’t go that route ultimately, but wow what an image! I’ll never watch the opening of Twin Suns again without seeing that in my mind’s eye.
– I about cried at my inability to see the images everyone was fangasming over tho…
– Hehe everyone going Kanera-crazy cracked me up. But also yeah that sounds like an utterly beautiful scene. The idea Kanan, Hera, and Zeb were all processing the kids growing up and leaving home… such family feels!
– Though I couldn’t see the Bane-Boba showdown, it sounded beyond epic. Corey Burton and Daniel Logan are just incredible, and the whole prospect just made me ravenous for more on their characters’ stories.
– ALSOOO the fact that Durge almost made it into TCW is epic. I almost forgot to mention that.

IAN MCDIARMID: TALES FROM THE DARK SIDE
So Mr. McDiarmid was wonderful, that’s an understatement. Again, I haven’t seen a lot of interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff with him, so everything about this was a fantastic new experience. Definitely gained a lot lot more respect for the Senator/Chancellor/Emperor/Darth and Ian’s stellar acting skills. Watching the scene between Anakin and Palpatine at the opera (or as I nicknamed it, the fish ballet) again left me kind of breathless at the perfection of his performance (and Hayden’s too!). Also have to say I love listening to Ian not only because of the fascinating stories he was telling, but also because his voice is amazing. So smooth and so well-spoken and articulate! Which is why it was spectacular and spine-chilling to hear him do that Emperor laugh! An absolute blast of a panel all around! It’s tempting to drop everything right now and watch Episode III again, but the day’s not over…!

RAY PARK: PREPARE TO BE MAULED
Once again, Ray Park proves to be one of the greatest human beings to ever live. His stunts and sweet moves never fail to leave me in awe, and he’s every bit as much a nice guy as Maul is a bad guy 😀 He and Warwick made this panel nothing short of an absolute blast. I loved hearing his stories from working on set (and making lightsaber noises with Mr. Neeson and Mr. McGregor!), watching him performing stunts like an absolute blazing tornado of energy, teaching lightsaber techniques to the fans… oh and I smiled so hard when he mentioned he was a huge Toy Story fan! He’s seriously just so so great. After seeing him at last year’s Celebration I’ve learned his panels are ones you should never miss.

THE LAST JEDI
OMG THIS PANEL WAS EVERYTHING AND MORE. Josh Gad was a brilliant host, Rian Johnson clearly’s a brilliant director, and there’s so so much to get hyped about! And that TEASER! It left me reeling in the best way. It’s a long way to Alderaan, and by “Alderaan” I mean December, but this helped just the slightest bit with the wait 🙂 Allow me to elaborate further in my assorted fangirl musings:

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Josh Gad is just like us and I love that.
– Like say, so much love for Mr. Johnson, and Ms. Kennedy too!
– OK so y’know I didn’t get to see The Force Awakens panel two years ago, so this is some of the first BTS stuff I’ve seen with Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. And now I love them more than ever, and I didn’t think it was possible for me to love them more!
– I’m amazed Daisy could keep a straight face with Josh asking her questions like that. Nahhh Rey’s parents are probably just an average Joe and Jane, right…? XP
– John is promising more Finn and Poe adventures! Sounds good to me! *Imagines Finn and Poe in “The Boys Are Back” number in High School Musical 3* XD
– BB-8 IS HERE AND HE’S REAL! OK I already knew that they’ve got a functioning BB out there, but just seeing him here… it’s incredible. I’m amazed he was not utterly mobbed by hugging fans! I loved watching him get snippy with Josh. That was just perfect!
– Kelly Marie Tran is just a delight you guys. I absolutely can’t wait to meet Rose now!
– MARK HAMILL AGAIN! He’s still so fantastic and his stories are some of the best ever. Hearing him talk about visiting kids in hospitals and making a difference for them made me tear up.
– WOW THAT POSTER! It’s so dynamic and kind of retro and full of fantastic symbolism! I could look at it forever.
– AND THE TEASER. “Breathe… just breathe” NO I CAN’T BREATHE, LUKE!! THIS IS TOO AMAZING!!
– I won’t elaborate on it too long (I’ll save that analyzing for the next trailer), but a few pressing things on my mind…
– A) Luke and Rey seem to be all #MasterAndApprenticeGoals even if Daisy hinted her first meeting with Master Skywalker will be a little… different…
– B) Meanwhile, Poe and BB-8 are all #FriendshipGoals
– C) EVERYTHANG IS SO BEAUTIFUL OMGOODNESSGRACIOUS!
– D) Huh I thought Kylo lost that lightsaber in the fight on Starkiller Base. Did he have to build a new one (which must be hard since it’s a pretty ancient model) or did he just have an extra in his sock drawer?
– E) Biggest thing of all: “It’s time for the Jedi… to end…” WHAT.
– WAHT.
– WHAT DOES IT MEAN….?!
– Is he talking about the Jedi as a group needing to end, so they can be something different, something more? Or is he just kinda blue and done with the Force right now? I’m going with the first option for now, but you can bet this line will consume me from the inside out until one December weekend…
AHHHHHH I LOVE STAR WARS SO MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

HEROINES OF STAR WARS
So having Ahsoka, Sabine, and Rey in the same room was amazing, and with Dave, too! They kicked off the panel with the best video montage of the many many bossladies in the Star Wars galaxy and made me cry a little just with that. It was really cool just hearing their stories as well as their perspective on the depiction of strong female characters. I could honestly go on a while on the topic myself, but for now I’ll just say once again that I’m super pumped for Forces Of Destiny and for all the bossladyness that awaits us in the future of SW (like Rose!). Also two other notes: a) I seriously love the FoD Ahsoka doll and I might have to get that even though my main collecting focus is on the 3.75s. And then b) I cracked up at the original game plan for Out Of Darkness with Hera and Sabine talking about the boys XD Pff that would’ve been kinda terrible if we’d missed out on the emotional journey that episode centered around. Not that I’m adverse to future conversations tho… *COUGHKaneraCOUGHSabezraCOUGH* But yeah! Who runs the galaxy? Star Wars girls! They’re the reason I started throwing around the term “bosslady”! 🙂

MARK HAMILL’S TRIBUTE TO CARRIE FISHER
I’m not sure I can say anything that hasn’t already been said… it was equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming. Mark is so so good, so articulate, and poured out his heart so well on this. Like say, prior to this, I haven’t taken the time to watch the featurettes and interviews that would help me know the amazing people behind these characters more, and the time spent listening to Mr. Hamill, Mr. Davis, and old interview pieces from Carrie… they were really something special. I’d always sort of known that Carrie was a firecracker, but I had no idea just how much until now. You know, as I write this, I was listening to my TCW soundtrack and the track I ended up on right now was #11, “Death Of A Master”. It obviously wasn’t written for her, but this gripping, powerful piece of music really suits my emotional state. And she was a master, you know? Not of the Force, but of brilliant acting and a stellar sense of humor. She’s a princess, a senator, a general, and also an absolute master. That’s all I got man the feels are really feelsy right now…

STAR WARS REBELS
OK WOW. I HAVE NO WORDS. WHICH IS REALLY BAD SINCE I’M WRITING A BLOG. I’M UTTERLY SOBBING AND CAN’T STOP APPLAUDING YOU GUYS.
It breaks my heart kinda to know this will be the last season, but I have complete confidence they’ll end it right. And whatever they have in store next will be fantastic. I didn’t need the trailer for proof, but it certainly was great to see regardless. Yeah this won’t make it hard for me to focus on that Season 3 recap post later! 😛 I adored seeing all the cast and Filoni together again, and knowing we’re coming up on the end makes it all the more a precious moment. They’re a beautiful family… both the Ghost crew and the people behind them.

Assorted Fangirl Musings
– Dave talking about Obi-Wan and Maul gave me such feels again.
– Freddie Prinze Jr. utterly killed it in his thoughts on Kanan and Ezra. So brilliantly said!
– “Hot Kallus”?? That was a thing?! Pfff that cracked me up. He’s always been a pretty good-lookin’ dude! why’s the internet just noticing now? XD He’s looking even better than ever in the trailer, though, and I can’t wait to see him full-on Rebellin’! Also I hope we get an entire episode dedicated to watching Ezra, Zeb, and Kallus play video games like the bros they are jk.
– Also you guys how great is it that Warwick Davis is gonna be in this season?! The guy’s such a marvelous talent and a has a fantastic voice, I’m so so glad he’s getting in animated Star Wars already! And playing such a delightfully creepy character to boot!
– More Mandos yaaaaaas!
– Speaking of, that girl cosplaying as Ursa Wren was amazing. I mean… that episode came out only a few months ago! How did she do it??
– Also mad props to the Gregor cosplay, too. I love seeing people who don’t just want to don the armor suits, but become that character even without the helmet on 🙂
– Like say that trailer… on the second viewing I buried my hands in my face and wept. Vanessa Marshall’s narration… my gosh. It sets the stage so perfectly and just overwhelms me with emotions and nostalgia.
– Glad to know that we’re going to see the giant wolves I spotted in the artwork on An Inside Man.
– OK it’s so tempting right now to do a complete recap of the trailer but I don’t think I’ve got the right words to say yet. I will say a few words tho:
– A) WOW WE’RE BACK ON LOTHAL YES! I’ve been all giddy about seeing Yavin but so much of the action we’ve seen is on the world where it all began. NO I’M NOT CRYING YOU ARE.
– B) KANERA. THAT IS ALL. I GOT IT OUT OF MY SYSTEM. NO I HAVEN’T I’M CRYING HARDER NOW.
– C) Sorry I shouldn’t be writing every thought in all caps, but WAIT WAIT WAIT IS THAT BO-KATAN OR AM I COMPLETELY MISTAKEN?
– D) Final note I CAN’T WAIT FOR EVERYTHING OMG.

SMUGGLER’S REVENGE
This was definitely one of the most anticipated panels for me. I didn’t see (or hear, rather) the first one, but I adored the second one, so I was absolutely hyped to experience another one of Kyle Newman’s glorious Star Wars audio stories! The writing is stellar and so perfectly Star Wars, the acting beyond sublime, the sounds well-timed, and oh my gosh Han and Leia banter for days! It’s funny, I kept trying to close my eyes and just listen to the performance, but David Collins and Catherine Taber were so fun to watch as well as listen to! The acting is just so wow in all ways. Everyone just did so so incredibly. David is a perfect Han, and I had no idea Tom Kane was such a masterful C-3PO! I highly look forward to whatever Mr. Newman might be planning in the future! Final thought: MATTHEW WOOD’S WILLHEM SCREAM WAS THE BEST XD

Honestly you guys there are just too many amazing things to mention, it was just an incredibly bountifully joyful weekend of Star Wars. The fandom feels are running through me like electricity right now! It’s an absolute rush! I know I’ll be counting the days ’til next year 😀

Celebration Europe Excitement!

Next to film release day, there are few more thrilling days of the year than Star Wars Celebration! I felt bad that I didn’t talk about last year’s events as much as I should’ve. So this year, I’m going to write down a fangirly paragraph or two on every panel I’m able to catch! So get excited!! I’ll be updating this post as things happen.
NOTE: As far as spoilers are concerned… depends on the panel I’m talking about. Just in general you should’ve seen all the movies and the shows and stuff. And the panels too.

Let the nerding out begin!

AHSOKA’S UNTOLD TALES
Words can’t describe how fun, exciting, and feely this panel was. But I’m gonna try anyway ’cause that’s why I’m here. Just… OMG wow! We see Ahsoka riding a giant wolf and leading the Clones into battle and fighting Darth Maul and reuniting with old friends and making some new friends (at least this Nix guy anyway hehe) and pretty much just winning at everything. Beautiful concept art, a delightful storyreel clippy, and a few of the amazing people behind them… all in the same room. SO WIZARD. The panel answered some questions that needed answering and gave us the slightest beautiful little promise we might might might might see her again. Also that book. Can’t wait for that book. The excitement is electric bro. Funny story in that first sketch of Ahsoka and Nix I’ll be honest I thought that was Han for a moment XD That would be an interesting story though…

ILM SW ARCHAEOLOGY
Wasn’t 100% certain what this panel was about until I started watching it and DANGGG IT IS SO COOL! Got to learn a little what goes into recreating what we see in Episode IV for Rogue One. Can only imagine how painstaking a job that is so I applaud you heartily, ILM! Stormtrooper helmets, Star Destroyers, the Death Star… all beautifully nostalgic but beautifully new at the same time! Just taking a closer look at the Rogue One teaser again I’m astounded at the detail! And Doug Chiang talking about miniatures and card models and matte paintings?? SO COOL. The work they put into these films, again, is incredible. Oh! And the stuff they did on The Force Awakens too! This is actually the first time since that sizzle reel from a year ago I’ve really gone behind the scenes on VII, at least in a featurette/documentary sense, anyway. Yes I’m dumb and don’t have the Blu-Ray yet. Anyway, as a whole this entire panel re-reminded me what a massive amount of work goes into making these films, as well as how amazing these ILM folks are. Ahh the technology and artistry behind SW always makes me giddy :3 Also, ❤ that moonwalkin' trooper!

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY
I’m so so sorry I haven’t talked more about my excitement for this film. I mean, when those photos came out the “Rogues” were all I could think about, but I had other things to blog about so I wasn’t able to give it the attention it deserves. Certainly there will be plenty of times between now and December to talk about it, and then for the rest of my life afterward, but hopefully I’ll be able to get some thoughts out in the post today. First my gosh isn’t Gwendoline Christie such a fun host?! She made this panel even more delightful than it already was! Captain Phasma may be all business but IRL she’s an excited fan like the rest of us! I suppose that’s not too surprising because not many people working on SW these days aren’t fans from the get-go but it’s cool all the same 🙂 Anyway, it’s truly amazing how everything fell together and how Rogue One began. And the folks working on bringing to life are truly amazing as well. Wow I’m just stating the obvious aren’t I? But it’s true! All of it! *SHOT* 😛 The energy in the room when the cast came out was just on fire, and Ben Mendelsohn coming out on stage in full regalia?? I know it’s been said before but WHOAAA he just OWNED IT. Never has a white suit and cape looked so dastardly and so classy at the same time! And of course the sizzle reel was beyond fantastic. There were too many great shots, but it was often the sweet little moments that stood out to me the most in some ways. Jyn handing the fruit to the villager for one (tough girl got heart awwz!). Seeing droids and several different species was awesome. I mean, I love that the main cast is mostly human, as it further exemplifies this idea of ordinary people making an extraordinary difference, but I’m glad we get to hang out with a few nonhumans along the way too, like that floofy white dude :3 All that beautiful old-meets-new imagery in general! Honestly I loved it all and I hope I’ve made that point very clear. The whole cast is just awesome, I’ll just go ahead and say that. After reading up on the characters and seeing their photos on EW, the fangirl gears didn’t stop turning. Each of them so unique, all sort of outcasts who come together ultimately for a common purpose, I couldn’t wait to meet them all. Fun fact, Chirrut is currently the one I have the most questions about, well maybe he and Saw are tied… anyway, I look forward to sharing those thoughts at a later date. But getting to see the actors portraying them and getting a further idea of their characters’ stories makes me love them even more than before. Also K2 is perfect, but you knew that XD And howzabout that poster tho?! It’s gorgeous!! It’s just all kinds of wow all around! Similar to feelings I had last year, I can’t tell if this has made it easier to wait, since I’m getting to learn more, or harder to wait, since I’ve still gotta wait until December to see it all. Either way, hype thrusters are GO!!

STAR WARS REBELS
After glimpsing Ezra’s new look earlier this week, I have to say the SWR panel was possibly the most highly anticipated for me. Not to say any of the other panels weren’t highly anticipated, but the majority of questions and queries on my mind lied with the fate of the Ghost family. And of course, the panel didn’t disappoint. Loved seeing Warwick Davis and Dave Filoni again, and Tiya Sircar and Sam Witwer were great. Seeing Mr. Witwer was a bit of surprise for me, since I had no clue he would be involved in the next season. Somehow I figured he’d go find someone else’s life to mess up somewhere else in the galaxy, but nope bro ain’t finished yet. (EDIT I hope it was clear I was talking about Darth Maul and not Sam Witwer in this sentence. YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG MR. WITWER!!) But it’s exciting and intriguing all the same. Everything goin’ on is exciting and intriguing. I mean… wow! For one, yay I called it Sabine finally gets that jetpack! Probably not accidentally purchased from someone who stole from Boba Fett, but still IT’S A JETPACK!! Everybody’s looking good with their new looks. Though I’ll always remember Ezra for his long hair, his short cut gives him a slightly more mature look for this chapter in life as he grows up, kind of sort of Luke-ish. Kanan has more fuzz now and that’s cool XD And of course Sabine gives me major hair envy as per usual. And then there’s that little thing with a dude named Thrawn… as you may know, I haven’t read Heir To The Empire and really anything by Timothy Zahn aside from an Insider short story. But I have heard of Thrawn, and as a fan of Ryder Windham’s Clone Wars Secret Missions series, I already think the Chiss species is awesome, so it makes me happy to know not only that Thrawn is now officially canon, but that his species is too 🙂 And thanks to his involvement in Rebels, I’ll likely make a point to read the classic novel sometime soon. So no questions I’m excited about season 3! But along with that excitement, there’s also some fear too… because honestly man I have no clue if anyone’s gonna make it out of this alive. That’s what I was thinking about last year, too, but danggg I don’t know how they keep finding new ways to up the ante, but they always do and they always deliver. And that’s just one of those things I love about Rebels and SW as a whole 🙂 Oh yeah and YESSSSSSS MAZ KANATA NEEDS TO MAKE IT INTO REBELS SOMEDAY!!

THE FREEMAKER ADVENTURES
Only got to read the liveblog on this one, but still good solid stuff. They may be Legos but these guys as Lucasfilm take them seriously as serious can get! So yay/aw situation: I was right about Zander’s age, not right about Kordi. Kordi is middle child, not the firstborn like for some reason I got into my head, but that makes her bossladyness all the more impressive. Why yes I do think about these things! Thank you for noticing. Oh it must’ve been great to hear Matthew Wood speaking as Roger for the audience! Y U NO STREAM THIS??? I do love they communicate with Leland Chee to make it as believably canon as they can get, ’cause aside from the occasional Lego self-awareness and SW jokes it’s canon in my mind. And yesss the idea of the Rebs running into the Freemakers… that would be a lot of fun… assuming anyone lives after this next season… OmO Good stuff tho! Those minifigs are my children! :3

STAR WARS PUBLISHING
Great great stuff is coming in the book world. No need for me to tell you that though. A whole collection of McQuarrie art! The Complete Locations! The beautifully-illustrated storybooks! And seriously why are we Yanks not able to read the Adventures In Wild Space series yet?? We better be able to soon ’cause you know I’m not missing out on a single canon chapter of this saga! (Or any chapter really) Either way, with stuff like this coming out, SHUT UP AND TAKE MAH MONEYYYYZ!!

RAY PARK
So this was really the first time I got to meet the man behind the Maul. I honestly didn’t know all that much about him (just my fault for not watching more of the featurettes 😛 ), but I absolutely adore him now. He is literally one of the nicest people I’ve ever seen! Watching him pal around with Warwick and teach fans both young and old his moves was fantastic. Gave me some feels when he personally answered the shy little boy’s question, and in the best way :3 And it’s really cool he’s still keeping up with and enjoying Maul’s further misadventures. SWC never fails to remind me that the people behind the magic of Star Wars are as amazing as the saga itself! Plus, the whole thing made me wish I knew some martial arts. Need to work on that…

Honestly there are too many things to talk about. So much talent, so much creativity, so much joy, so much passion… you could see that in everyone there, fan and filmmaker alike. The future of SW is looking so so bright, and I am beyond thrilled to see what comes next ❤

And don't worry. If I didn't cover something here, I'll likely talk about it in future posts. Can't wait 'til the next big reason to celebrate!

Star Wars Reads Day ’15 – Jedi Prince #4: Mission From Mount Yoda

If you’ve been keeping track, you know what today is… Star Wars Reads Day! Anytime is a good time to read a SW book, but it’s nice to have one special day a year to do so as well. So like we did a couple years back, we’re digging into Paul and Hollace Davids’ Jedi Prince series. Reading the fourth chapter in this exciting and intriguing adventure, Mission From Mount Yoda! You can catch up with the last few chapters here, here, and here. Now let’s get started!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode VI, The Glove Of Darth Vader, The Lost City Of The Jedi, Zorba The Hutt’s Revenge, and Mission From Mount Yoda.

We find ourselves in the midst of a meeting amongst the Dark Side Prophets in Space Station Scardia, where the big cheese of the DSPs, Kadann, is about to make a few predictions. Really creepy stuff here. The idea of the dark side being a bit of a cult is quite fascinating. Though it was written before the Prequels explained more about how the Sith work, it makes a lot of sense even now. Honestly I could see this kind of deal existing officially-canonically. Kadann comes out and makes mention of a few little things; first, he now speaks for the dark side, second, he’ll destroy all that is good in the Force, and finally, he also mentioned something akin to “when the dragon pack perched upon Yoda’s stony back receives a visitor pierced by gold, then come the last days of the Rebel Alliance”. Yikes. Much yikes. And you know Kadann… if his predictions don’t come true, he makes them come true. Rebs beware.
But the Rebs don’t know nothin’ of this, they’re vacationing on Z’trop! Because if anyone deserves a vacation, these guys do. Especially since Leia caught the unwanted attention of Zorba The Hutt and stuff. Han so badly wanted some down time with his princess, but so far they’d just started back down the bickering trail. Over pointless things I might add, like whether Septapi are carnivorous or herbivorous. I’m thinking a bit of this has to do with the fact that he’s got nerves since considering a certain proposal 🙂 But that intelligent conversation doesn’t last for long, because as usual, cue the Empire. Artoo may have spotted an assault vehicle not too far from the sunny shores. Turns out, upon further inspection, that there’s no ‘trooper to be found, however, Luke does find a few holodiscs marked with the Scardia symbol. Either way, the vacay’s over as they head back to their secret base on Dagobah’s Mount Yoda. Though seriously how cool is it Yoda got a mountain named after him?! A little something the Rebels did in honor of him. I’m sure he brags about it to Anakin and Obi-Wan often 🙂 The Mount Yoda base, known as DRAPAC (the Defense Research And Planetary Assistance Center), is pretty sweet digs for being located on the highest peak in a slimy mudhole. Not completely finished, but still impressive with levels upon levels of everything the Alliance could need. Right down to their top-secret project known as “Project Decoy”. The Rebs don’t waste much time before looking into those holodiscs, which happen to hold Kadann’s most recent prophecies on there. It doesn’t take long for Luke and Leia to decipher that it’s talking about Mount Yoda and DRAPAC. And Luke queries whether a gold knife, also found in the missing Imperial’s belongings, might have something to do with that “pierced by gold” bit. Wonder who owned that stuff to start with. Maybe dude was just stopping for a smoothie and then came back to realize his assault vehicle was broken into. His boss won’t be pleased… whoever that boss of his is right now since Trioculus became a museum exhibit.
Speaking of Trioculus, yeah the Empire wants the guy back and a little less frozen. Thankfully, Zorba’s out of town, making his dream of converting the palace into an extremely profitable prison a reality. When the lothcat’s away the womprats will play (Completely weird thought: I kept referring to lothcats as tookas for a while because of their similarity, before that I was calling them “mookas”, which this book actually refers to as in “purring like a mooka”. I know the name “tooka” came from Dave Filoni’s cat but where did “mooka” come from? Either way yay cats in SW!). The Stormtroopers and their chief have little problem walking into the museum and coming out with the Emperor. Honestly they did the folks of Bespin a favor… who wants to pay money to look at that ugly mug? He’d scare the kids man! And what exhibit would that go into anyway? “Cloud City Museum presents… The Hall Of Carbonite!” 😛 But yeah unfreezing him might cause more problems than a few unhappy museum attendees. Just as Grand Moff Hissa was about to free him, our friends from Scardia showed up. High Prophet Jedgar demands Trioculus turned over to them since Kadann’s in charge now. Jedgar and Hissa have a nice long debate over the ex-Emperor as well as the politics between the Prophets and the Empire. But Jedgar played dirty and revealed just how much dirt he had on Hissa and ultimately the Grand Moff had no choice but to switch his loyalties. So the Prophets now have the three-eyed bro and you can figure they have no intentions to let him live…
Back on Dagobah, things are also taking a downward turn. At least for Ken, anyway, who’s about to start his studies and DRAPAC’s Dagobah Tech. He’s never been a fan of such things, so yeah he’s not too happy about this. Luke tries to give him a little encouragement, talked about how much he wanted to go to the Academy back in the day, but to no avail. First day of school should’ve been easy, right? Nope. Tests on the first day, and only a portion of them on stuff he understood. Random fun thought: since this school is run by Rebels, who would teach what classes? Maybe Sabine could teach languages and art appreciation? I could totally see that. OK random fun thought over ’cause not long after Ken’s tests were over a ship nearly crashes down right into DRAPAC! The driver of said ship is a Duro named Dustini, who comes off a pretty nice mannerly guy, but also not doing so well. That’s because his planet isn’t doing so well… it’s become a hazardous waste dump and it’s being looted for its treasures by the Empire, mostly because Kadann really really likes shiny things. Also yeah this book seems to refer to the planet as Duro and not the species as a Duro so since I have no clue what the planet is called canonically I’m just gonna refer to it as the “Duro homeworld”. So yeah Dustini came here for help so they could help save his people, who have gone into hiding for fear of being turned into Imperial slaves. He takes a moment to showcase a few of the DH’s priceless artifacts, only to accidentally trigger a poisonous booby trap in the crown of their ancient king. So that would explain the “pierced by gold” bit… Kadann’s better at this predicting thing than I thought. While medical droids work to heal the poor guy, Artoo plays back one of Dustini’s holodiscs explaining the mission at hand. Onward to the Duro homeworld!
The next day, Ken was supposed to be at school. He just wanted to say goodbye and may-the-Force-be-with-you to his friends before his classes started, but one thing led to another and before he knew it he was trapped in the Falcon‘s cargo hold just as they set off to the DH. Wellllp… at least he won’t have to do any tests today. What no one on the Falcon knows is that Hissa and Jedgar have them in their sights. First gunner to destroy the Millennium Falcon gets to dine with the Prophets! The Falcon‘s firepower isn’t enough to match their opponent’s and their hyperdrive is kaput, much to Han’s chagrin, so flying for their lives seems like the best option for now. Artoo finds out that a bit of the trouble has something to do with a locked cargo hold. It takes Luke using the Force to get that door open, and inside he finds, not an Imperial spy, but a young Jedi Prince. It’s a miracle Ken was able to convince Luke he hadn’t stowed away on purpose. More of a miracle was that Threepio was able to do a minor repair and fixed the hyperdrive and quad cannons again. Seriously, THREEPIO JUST FIXED SOMETHING. *Slow clap*. Instead of immediately hitting the hyperspace outta there, Han makes a risky move and takes aim at the baddies’ ship. Which unfortunately doesn’t end too well for our heroes. With quite a few new holes in the ship, Han decides now would be a good time to hit the hyperspace button.
Speaking of things not going too well, we soon find Kadann at the other end of a laser, completely decimating the carbonite-frozen form of Trioculus. And now he himself wields Darth Vader’s glove. All is proceeding as dude’s forseen. After all, Kadann is never wrong, right?
The good news is the Falcon managed to survive its near-crash on DH, the good news is that Duro mechanics are awesome at what they do, the bad news is that the estimated repair bill is a whole lotta credits. Ouch indeed. Mechanic dude makes an offer to trade the hunk of junk in for something new, but Han calls no deal. Thankfully Leia believes SPIN’ll pick up the tab on this one. You gotta love Han’s legit undying loyalty to that ship. It’s clearly still lookin’ good thirty years later! 🙂 So they head back to their destination in a rental, where Artoo accesses a map from Dustini’s holodisc to the Valley Of Royalty. It’s where all the archaeologists are that they need to set free. Also of note nearby is an Imperial Reprogramming Institute… wherein lives the mysterious Triclops, the true son of Palpatine who the Empire fears but keeps alive anyway. Ken decides to divulge a little of what he knows on the subject of this guy, but what this guy has to do with Dustini’s mission we do not know. Shortly thereafter our heroes headed off, originally not with Ken, but the kid knows how to persuade, especially when he pulled the “Obi-Wan said our destinies are connected!” card out. So Leia stayed behind to watch the ship and Ken went on. Smart boy 🙂 Honestly I think Obi-Wan could sympathize with Luke on this one.
Guess who also just arrived on Duro? A certain grand moff and dark side prophet. Jedgar reveals the nature of their mission, to recapture the escaped Triclops. Yeah just what Hissa wanted to do this weekend… chase down a madman on a toxic waste-covered planet! ‘Course, you think they have problems… Luke and the gang were facing down giant mutant Fezfe beetles! Somehow they managed to slice and shoot their way outta that mess, and we must thank Ken for saving his master’s life in a moment of crisis. Yeah fun planet right? They continue on through into the bowels of the Valley, facing steep stairways, treacherous turns, and toxic gunk falling from the ceiling as they go. Not to mention encountering the man of the hour himself — Triclops! Bro’s pretty chill for someone who escaped a correctional facility. Escaped with the help of a reprogrammed Imperial assassin droid, for good reason too since he very nearly got a lobotomy. Yeesh. Tri has no problem helping out our Rebels and leading them to the imperiled archaeologists. He’s very interested in Luke’s Jedi ways, as he mentions knowing a Jedi once. And also seems to know something about Ken, about the silver charm he wears, about his past… much intrigue. Tri is all kinds of much intrigue. But even so, he’s clearly nothing like his dad, so let’s just be glad for that 🙂 Doesn’t take ’em long before the find the rest of the Duro dudes, all working to get their relics together before they leave their festering stinkhole planet behind. For sure they’re eternally grateful for SPIN’s help, happy enough to hug it out with Captain Solo, though Han had slightly differing opinions on that matter XD So from there on out everybody starts working together to get the loot back to the planet surface and under the care of SPIN until the Duros relocate. In the midst of this, Han receives a little something courtesy of the Duros — an ancient Corellian wedding ring. Oh wait that sounded really creepy. What I meant was that Dustini’s cousin gave it to Han as a “thank you” gift, that it could eventually be given to the one he loves. Han doesn’t elaborate too much on where he is in that stage of life, but accepts it all the same, just in case. Hehe yesss all the forces in the universe are working to get the power couple to tie the knot already X3 But aboveground, Imperial interrogator Defeen has quite literally needled the truth out of a Duro, revealing the whereabouts of a certain Valley. That’s trouble. And as if we needed more trouble, Hissa and Jedgar showed up with a gaggle of ‘troopers and a big boring mechanism. In the midst of the chaos that ensued, the bad guys nearly nabbed Ken, but that’s where Triclops came in… and bro’s third eye is hypnotic. And we mention he hand-to-hand fights like a boss? He could’ve easily finished Hissa off, but a sudden rush of toxic sludge did his job for him. Grand Moff Hissa + toxicity – Jedgar’s help = 60% less Grand Moff. Eww. Dude this is intense! Our heroes make a narrow escape from the cavern and Leia and Chewie arrive with their ride outta here just in time! So go off our Rebels, along with the Duros, their treasure, and Triclops in tow. By the time they return to DRAPAC, things all fall together nicely; Dustini is alive and reunited with his people, the Falcon is better than new, and everyone’s all together again. Things are looking up. But one thing still remains unanswered; Triclops is being held for questioning for now… but he is really the real pacifist anti-Empire good guy deal? What did the Empire want with him? Much intrigue… much intrigue indeed.
So there you go! Another fun Star Wars Reads Day and a fun post to go with it! Now, I’ll be seeing you next week with some new Rebels awesomeness! Until then…

Uncovering The Lost Missions: Destiny

Ermagoshhh we are on the second-to-last episode of TCW now… feels unreal, doesn’t it? It’s a whole lot of intensity, mystery, and real real deepness we’re getting in this one! So hopefully this time I’ll have something useful to say and give all of us something to think about this time around as we uncover the depths of Destiny!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode I, Episode II, Episode III, Episode VI and TCW Episodes Brothers, The Wrong Jedi, The Lost One, Voices, and Destiny.

So yes, amazing what one can uncover in a short period of time… in what seems to be a few days, Yoda’s found out that a) the bad guys may be responsible for the Clone Army and b) that Qui-Gon Jinn has uncovered a way to stay yourself after death. So now Yoda’s letting the Force be his GPS to guide him to the next step on his crazy journey that will help him figure out what Qui-Gon’s figured out. At the moment, Yoda and R2-D2 are parked right outside this crazy mass of gas and star stuff. Yoda knows that somewhere in that mass is his new Force-training ground, so he just keeps on driving. On the other hand, Artoo is clearly questioning his sanity. “LOOK, MAY I REMIND YOU THAT MY HEAD IS STICKING OUTSIDE? I WOULD LIKE TO LIVE THROUGH THIS IF THAT’S POSSIBLE! ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THIS??? YOU CAN SLOW DOWN ANY TIME, MAN! ARE YOU SURE THAT MASTER JINN WASN’T JUST TALKING ABOUT A COFFEE SHOP OR SOMETHING?” and so on. Hehe poor guy’s screaming his dome off! But Yoda has a tendency to be right, because there it is — a planet! And clearly the right planet, because it’s covered in glowy sparkly stuff! As well as, of course, being Force-heavy. So thus, our heroes land right next to a giant crater flowing with strands of glowy sparkly stuff. Well, actually that glowy sparkly stuff is pure Force… or life… or something… please bear with me as I understand the Force as much as I understand underwater agriculture. Yoda knows where he’s going, and he gives Artoo his lightsaber for safekeeping. I admittedly get a little choked up that Artoo is clearly worried for his friend :3 But Yoda’s gotta do it alone… and off he goes, flying the ship down the glowy crater into the unknown!
Once the crater lets out, we find ourselves in a cavernous world that can hardly be done justice by mere description. It’s got some of those glowy strands going on and it has these floating islands or whatever and tons of bizarre-ish but cool foliage. And evidently, there’s some pretty cool wildlife around here too. But just then, out of nowhere comes an eerie voice, apparently female. And she shows herself first by floating in a sparkly ball… to which all of us said “Are you a good witch or a bad witch?” 😆 And then she reveals herself as this ghost-faced, black-cloaked biped who fits into the “bizarre-ish but cool” category as well. She’s all “Yoda! Where’ve you been man?” which in turn gives us this Wonderland vibe. Yoda’s all “How would you know that…?” and she’s all “Dude. I’m kinda part of the living Force durrr.” and in turn leads him off. Now, I have to say, as unreal as these ghostly guardians seem to be, they have it pretty good. They barely have to walk! This girl just floats on! And on top of that, the foliage just curls itself out of her way! Wouldn’t that be great, especially since I have a tendency to get hit with branches when I’m walking through foliage myself. Luckyyy. On top of that, doors just open for her! Technically tunnels, I guess, but still! I sorta kept expecting Yoda to get hit with all the foliage that missed her or that the door might close on Yoda before he could get in, but he’s a VIP guest here… none of that expected comic humor for this guy! So once through the door, the girl announces to her cousins that their guest has arrived. And the room immediately becomes all cool and glowy and in comes one-by-one all of these nearly identical spirit cousins. They’re identical, except that each one’s mask evokes a different emotion. Soooo that kind of makes them like the Seven Dwarves of the Force. *Armada of Star Wars fans drop a brick on my head* The first one’s a bit of a jerk, the next one is the walking (er… floating?) manifestation of a familiar Pharrell song, there’s a depressed one, and a confused one on top of that. They all want to know why Yoda’s here though (guess the first cousin didn’t let them know about this guest beforehand? Manners!). He tells them the simple fact that he’s interested in the whole immortality thing, and the Worrier doubts, the Optimist is all for it, the Confused shrugs and is all “whatever I guess”. Fact is, as far as their calm leader’s concerned, he’s kinda going to train a hero someday who will save the universe (you all know who they’re talking about!). The rather… grumpy one is all “Psh dude you have no idea what you’re getting yourself into!”, but Yoda’s cool with being the student this time around. Soooo the cousins seem to accept his request, after a bout of slightly disturbing girlish laughter. Obviouslyyy they know what Yoda’s going to face… and it can’t be quite as humorous as they’re letting on. But all the same, Yoda’s been accepted into the school of Force-ghost-ness!
So after the initiation, Yoda’s poofed back to where he last was, where the lead spirit girl fills him in on the locale’s background. Long story short — this is the where midichlorians are made and where all life originates. Which would explain the amount of glowy Force stuff. She leads him to this pathway of floaty island-things that in turn leads to this spooky-looking island/mountain. Apparently, Yoda needs to get in touch with himself a bit if he’s going to hang around after death, so he’ll take a couple of challenges in that very island/mountain to beat out his underlying dark side. Yoda’s like “Wait… I’m a Jedi! There’s no fear or darksidery going on in me!” and she’s all “Ha. Sure… prove it then.”. Yoda doesn’t get the deal with that, but off he goes, island-hopping his way over to the spooky mountainous island. Yes indeedy the teacher is about to get schooled!
So Yoda literally can’t take a step into these dark caves without hearing another creepy disembodied voice. And it’s much much much creepier than the last. And it kinda sounds like… him. Yes friends, Shadow Yoda will haunt my dreams for a while. I’ve heard Maul in his insane state compared to Gollum, but that’s nothing comparatively… Shadow Yoda here could probably scare the real Gollum and Darth Maul both. And sorry I’ll stop talking about Middle Earth lore in the middle of a Star Wars blog, but seriously! I did not know Tom Kane’s voice was capable of all this creepy. He’s talking almost exactly like Gollum! And sorry I did it again! So yes it’s both exciting and terrifying watching Yoda fight his darksidery self. Yup… just the facts, everyone’s got something they have to overcome, no matter how seemingly big or small it may be. Even if it’s just his being mad at Quinlan Vos for cutting in front of him in the cafeteria line. Or maybe the fact that he’s too short for most Disney Parks rides (sorry). Either way, Yoda has to come to grips that he’s not perfect, but he can choose to make the right decisions and face his “dark side” head-on when he needs to. In fact, it’s his choosing to face Shadow Yoda and saying “OK yeah you’re there, but you don’t control me.” that defeats this creepy guy in the end. You go, Master Yoda! He gets an “A” on this assignment, but he’s still got some more tests to go through. Bet he’s wishing now he hadn’t worn himself out physically fighting the guy for so long. Again, it feels very unusual to see Yoda realizing all he doesn’t know, but yet, it also makes him more relatable. So now that Yoda’s truly willing to take this schooling seriously, the guardians send him off once more to his next lesson… and it’s not exactly a simple true-or-false quiz. They called it… “temptations”. Oooh heavy…
You’d think getting through some ascending valley and coming through without attachment would be easy, right? Well this is Star Wars… most things aren’t that easy. Though weird thought: if these girls are the utmost in the Force… do they know what we now know about the “Jedi vs. Attachment” issue? We know that the Jedi were taking some of all this too far, even if it was partially rooted in truth. From an interview with Dave Filoni on starwars.com, he pointed out that it was their legit love for each other that saved Vader and Luke in Episode VI, something the Jedi didn’t totally get until then. The Jedi are right for the most part regarding attachment; holding on to someone or something so viciously that it makes you make bad decisions can be a straight path down the hill to Dark Side Land, but loving someone, but being willing to let go? That’s different. Now, from Yoda experiences in the valley, it honestly seems that the spirits might only be half-right on all this… honestly, this test leaves me with lots and lots and lots of questions that I can only hope with my own discussion may help answer.
Yeahhhh you know you’re in for a pretty terrifying test when you suddenly walk into a room full of dead Jedi. Everyone from adorable Jedi kids to the great and awesome Mace Windu lie scattered on these floors, including one who looks awfully familiar… OHMYGOSH AHSOKA TANO??! And she’s kinda still alive to boot! So as you can imagine, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Yoda look so sad… I can’t help but shed some tears in this part. And yeah, it’s a bit of a surreal moment to see Ahsoka again after all this time… especially since she’s… sorta just barely hanging on to life. Ahsoka tells him that this was all the Sith’s doing, but quickly turns the conversation around to her being kicked out of the Order. This does make me ask some questions, as Ahsoka almost got back in, but she turned down their offer and chose to leave the Jedi Order. Either Yoda just feels stupid guilty about the whole debacle or else he wasn’t fully informed of what went down. I’m thinking it’s the first one; Yoda does care about her, and probably feels like he might’ve been responsible for what went down. I mean, either way, Ahsoka’s trial and junk did leave an indelible mark on her and made her question the Jedi Order herself. Aww Yoda you can’t blame yourself…! Ahsoka then moves on to worrying about her future… she’s not a full Jedi, so when she dies, does she just… die? I’ve always believed that if you’re strong with the Force, you’ll end up in the soup either way, so I’m not really worried for whatever ultimately does become of Ahsoka, whether she’s hanging with the bounty hunters (something I picked up from a sketch of Mr. Filoni’s that was meant for an unmade TCW episode), joining the Rebel Alliance, or working a desk job somewhere. But clearly Yoda is worried for her, because he doesn’t know. Aughhh so many tears…! 😥 Seriously though the shot was angled pretty far from him, I have no doubt Yoda was tearing up, man… and IDK about you but when the Jedi actually let loose the waterworks on the rare occasion, I get gut-punched in the feels. But in the midst of his sadness, comes in one of those adorable Padawans from Season 5, inviting him to come with her to someplace far away from all this tragedy and fear. I mean, at first glance, you kinda can’t deny an adorable little girl’s offer of paradise, but then we remember “oh hey, isn’t this the ‘temptation’ part of this?” and then we start yelling “NO YODA DON’T DO IT!!! IT’S A TRAP!”, but of course, Yoda’s just been through all this hurt so of course he does it anyway. He’s only human, I suppose (or um… not human… whatever he is…). And suddenly, they’re outside the temple where the birds are singing and the trees are blooming and alllllll the Jedi who are and whoever were are hanging out together. And honestly, my first reaction is “Well, what could possibly be wrong with this?”. My weird theories have always imagined the Force-Spirit realm as something akin to a fancy retirement village where all the Jedi hang out together and sing songs around the campfire and go golfing (well, what did Anakin, Yoda, and Obi-Wan do after they left the Ewok party? I can’t imagine just floating around and giving Luke advice take up that much time in a day!). Of course, I’m aware that this may be an incorrect theory, but it just seems right. Perhaps the only difference is that those who keep their identity get to talk to the living on the occasion or something, IDK. Sooo how can this Jedi Temple barbecue be a bad thing, right? The padawan tells him that there’s no war out here, and Yoda pretty quickly puts on his “skepticles” on the whole thing. Especially as he finds Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon chatting about funny anecdotes with Master Dooku. I get that it feels weird… I mean, Dooku’s legitimately smiling and being a good guy! I’ve always wondered what kind of guy he was before he went all dark side on us, but this leaves me with mixed feelings. It does kinda make me feel all happy and gooey inside seeing this legacy of Jedi together… Dooku, who trained Qui-Gon, Qui-Gon, who trained Obi-Wan, and Yoda, who trained them all! D’aww feels! Yoda’s kinda becoming cool with it, but he’s not taking a hot dog off the grill yet. Pretty quickly Yoda just stops and says “Whoa whoa whoa something’s not right here!”. I guess seeing a few Jedi who are either dead (Adi Gallia and Qui-Gon and even Tiplar) or ex-Jedi (Dooku and Barriss Offee) is a little weird. Yeah figures I’d probably have failed this test big-time… isn’t that the point of this paradise? Everyone being together? I’m still confused, but this is a test. Maybe in twenty years they’re all be roasting marshmallows on Endor, but not today. This is the whole “temptation” deal. The rest of the Jedi are like “Dude. Total faux pas!” and Dooku’s like “Bros let me handle this” and pulls out his red lightsaber. But Yoda just looks him in the creepy red eyes and shrugs “This is all fake, you know.” and poof Yoda’s back to solid ground. It’s so confusing…! Perhaps someday it will all make sense. Anyway, the lead spirit shows up and slaps a big A+ on that paper (so to speak), but yeah he’s got finals coming up… the rest of the girls tells him his next and final test awaits him on the Sith homeworld and face a bucketload of fear. Ohhh wonderful. But Yoda do what Yoda do.
So by the time Yoda flew out of that Force-y glowy mess, Artoo was so happy to see him again he was doing a little dance! But he probably wasn’t in a dancing mood when Yoda told him that they’re going on the road again… but evidently, he does have some good words of wisdom, as the little droid seems to say “We have to be brave, Master,”. And don’t we, though, as we head into whatever ultimate destiny lies ahead.
Daaaaang… that’s all that I think I’m able to put into words on this one! And soon we’ll see the finale to end all finales… and boy I hope I can get all those thoughts translated to text within just one blog! Until then…
