Celebration Europe Excitement!

Next to film release day, there are few more thrilling days of the year than Star Wars Celebration! I felt bad that I didn’t talk about last year’s events as much as I should’ve. So this year, I’m going to write down a fangirly paragraph or two on every panel I’m able to catch! So get excited!! I’ll be updating this post as things happen.
NOTE: As far as spoilers are concerned… depends on the panel I’m talking about. Just in general you should’ve seen all the movies and the shows and stuff. And the panels too.

Let the nerding out begin!

AHSOKA’S UNTOLD TALES
Words can’t describe how fun, exciting, and feely this panel was. But I’m gonna try anyway ’cause that’s why I’m here. Just… OMG wow! We see Ahsoka riding a giant wolf and leading the Clones into battle and fighting Darth Maul and reuniting with old friends and making some new friends (at least this Nix guy anyway hehe) and pretty much just winning at everything. Beautiful concept art, a delightful storyreel clippy, and a few of the amazing people behind them… all in the same room. SO WIZARD. The panel answered some questions that needed answering and gave us the slightest beautiful little promise we might might might might see her again. Also that book. Can’t wait for that book. The excitement is electric bro. Funny story in that first sketch of Ahsoka and Nix I’ll be honest I thought that was Han for a moment XD That would be an interesting story though…

ILM SW ARCHAEOLOGY
Wasn’t 100% certain what this panel was about until I started watching it and DANGGG IT IS SO COOL! Got to learn a little what goes into recreating what we see in Episode IV for Rogue One. Can only imagine how painstaking a job that is so I applaud you heartily, ILM! Stormtrooper helmets, Star Destroyers, the Death Star… all beautifully nostalgic but beautifully new at the same time! Just taking a closer look at the Rogue One teaser again I’m astounded at the detail! And Doug Chiang talking about miniatures and card models and matte paintings?? SO COOL. The work they put into these films, again, is incredible. Oh! And the stuff they did on The Force Awakens too! This is actually the first time since that sizzle reel from a year ago I’ve really gone behind the scenes on VII, at least in a featurette/documentary sense, anyway. Yes I’m dumb and don’t have the Blu-Ray yet. Anyway, as a whole this entire panel re-reminded me what a massive amount of work goes into making these films, as well as how amazing these ILM folks are. Ahh the technology and artistry behind SW always makes me giddy :3 Also, ❤ that moonwalkin' trooper!

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY
I’m so so sorry I haven’t talked more about my excitement for this film. I mean, when those photos came out the “Rogues” were all I could think about, but I had other things to blog about so I wasn’t able to give it the attention it deserves. Certainly there will be plenty of times between now and December to talk about it, and then for the rest of my life afterward, but hopefully I’ll be able to get some thoughts out in the post today. First my gosh isn’t Gwendoline Christie such a fun host?! She made this panel even more delightful than it already was! Captain Phasma may be all business but IRL she’s an excited fan like the rest of us! I suppose that’s not too surprising because not many people working on SW these days aren’t fans from the get-go but it’s cool all the same 🙂 Anyway, it’s truly amazing how everything fell together and how Rogue One began. And the folks working on bringing to life are truly amazing as well. Wow I’m just stating the obvious aren’t I? But it’s true! All of it! *SHOT* 😛 The energy in the room when the cast came out was just on fire, and Ben Mendelsohn coming out on stage in full regalia?? I know it’s been said before but WHOAAA he just OWNED IT. Never has a white suit and cape looked so dastardly and so classy at the same time! And of course the sizzle reel was beyond fantastic. There were too many great shots, but it was often the sweet little moments that stood out to me the most in some ways. Jyn handing the fruit to the villager for one (tough girl got heart awwz!). Seeing droids and several different species was awesome. I mean, I love that the main cast is mostly human, as it further exemplifies this idea of ordinary people making an extraordinary difference, but I’m glad we get to hang out with a few nonhumans along the way too, like that floofy white dude :3 All that beautiful old-meets-new imagery in general! Honestly I loved it all and I hope I’ve made that point very clear. The whole cast is just awesome, I’ll just go ahead and say that. After reading up on the characters and seeing their photos on EW, the fangirl gears didn’t stop turning. Each of them so unique, all sort of outcasts who come together ultimately for a common purpose, I couldn’t wait to meet them all. Fun fact, Chirrut is currently the one I have the most questions about, well maybe he and Saw are tied… anyway, I look forward to sharing those thoughts at a later date. But getting to see the actors portraying them and getting a further idea of their characters’ stories makes me love them even more than before. Also K2 is perfect, but you knew that XD And howzabout that poster tho?! It’s gorgeous!! It’s just all kinds of wow all around! Similar to feelings I had last year, I can’t tell if this has made it easier to wait, since I’m getting to learn more, or harder to wait, since I’ve still gotta wait until December to see it all. Either way, hype thrusters are GO!!

STAR WARS REBELS
After glimpsing Ezra’s new look earlier this week, I have to say the SWR panel was possibly the most highly anticipated for me. Not to say any of the other panels weren’t highly anticipated, but the majority of questions and queries on my mind lied with the fate of the Ghost family. And of course, the panel didn’t disappoint. Loved seeing Warwick Davis and Dave Filoni again, and Tiya Sircar and Sam Witwer were great. Seeing Mr. Witwer was a bit of surprise for me, since I had no clue he would be involved in the next season. Somehow I figured he’d go find someone else’s life to mess up somewhere else in the galaxy, but nope bro ain’t finished yet. (EDIT I hope it was clear I was talking about Darth Maul and not Sam Witwer in this sentence. YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG MR. WITWER!!) But it’s exciting and intriguing all the same. Everything goin’ on is exciting and intriguing. I mean… wow! For one, yay I called it Sabine finally gets that jetpack! Probably not accidentally purchased from someone who stole from Boba Fett, but still IT’S A JETPACK!! Everybody’s looking good with their new looks. Though I’ll always remember Ezra for his long hair, his short cut gives him a slightly more mature look for this chapter in life as he grows up, kind of sort of Luke-ish. Kanan has more fuzz now and that’s cool XD And of course Sabine gives me major hair envy as per usual. And then there’s that little thing with a dude named Thrawn… as you may know, I haven’t read Heir To The Empire and really anything by Timothy Zahn aside from an Insider short story. But I have heard of Thrawn, and as a fan of Ryder Windham’s Clone Wars Secret Missions series, I already think the Chiss species is awesome, so it makes me happy to know not only that Thrawn is now officially canon, but that his species is too 🙂 And thanks to his involvement in Rebels, I’ll likely make a point to read the classic novel sometime soon. So no questions I’m excited about season 3! But along with that excitement, there’s also some fear too… because honestly man I have no clue if anyone’s gonna make it out of this alive. That’s what I was thinking about last year, too, but danggg I don’t know how they keep finding new ways to up the ante, but they always do and they always deliver. And that’s just one of those things I love about Rebels and SW as a whole 🙂 Oh yeah and YESSSSSSS MAZ KANATA NEEDS TO MAKE IT INTO REBELS SOMEDAY!!

THE FREEMAKER ADVENTURES
Only got to read the liveblog on this one, but still good solid stuff. They may be Legos but these guys as Lucasfilm take them seriously as serious can get! So yay/aw situation: I was right about Zander’s age, not right about Kordi. Kordi is middle child, not the firstborn like for some reason I got into my head, but that makes her bossladyness all the more impressive. Why yes I do think about these things! Thank you for noticing. Oh it must’ve been great to hear Matthew Wood speaking as Roger for the audience! Y U NO STREAM THIS??? I do love they communicate with Leland Chee to make it as believably canon as they can get, ’cause aside from the occasional Lego self-awareness and SW jokes it’s canon in my mind. And yesss the idea of the Rebs running into the Freemakers… that would be a lot of fun… assuming anyone lives after this next season… OmO Good stuff tho! Those minifigs are my children! :3

STAR WARS PUBLISHING
Great great stuff is coming in the book world. No need for me to tell you that though. A whole collection of McQuarrie art! The Complete Locations! The beautifully-illustrated storybooks! And seriously why are we Yanks not able to read the Adventures In Wild Space series yet?? We better be able to soon ’cause you know I’m not missing out on a single canon chapter of this saga! (Or any chapter really) Either way, with stuff like this coming out, SHUT UP AND TAKE MAH MONEYYYYZ!!

RAY PARK
So this was really the first time I got to meet the man behind the Maul. I honestly didn’t know all that much about him (just my fault for not watching more of the featurettes 😛 ), but I absolutely adore him now. He is literally one of the nicest people I’ve ever seen! Watching him pal around with Warwick and teach fans both young and old his moves was fantastic. Gave me some feels when he personally answered the shy little boy’s question, and in the best way :3 And it’s really cool he’s still keeping up with and enjoying Maul’s further misadventures. SWC never fails to remind me that the people behind the magic of Star Wars are as amazing as the saga itself! Plus, the whole thing made me wish I knew some martial arts. Need to work on that…

Honestly there are too many things to talk about. So much talent, so much creativity, so much joy, so much passion… you could see that in everyone there, fan and filmmaker alike. The future of SW is looking so so bright, and I am beyond thrilled to see what comes next ❤

And don't worry. If I didn't cover something here, I'll likely talk about it in future posts. Can't wait 'til the next big reason to celebrate!

Following The Freemakers: Zander’s Joyride

…And with a title like that, you just know it’s gonna be a fun one! Time again for another edition of Following The Freemakers, where I write the world’s most fangirly (and probably weirdest) commentary on each exciting episode! Yeah I don’t have a clue as to how to open this do I? Let’s just go already. *Slams foot on the gas* *Realizes starships don’t have gas pedals* *Finally locates hyperspace controls after thumbing through the manual* *Finally makes the jump to light speed*
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode I, Episode IV, TCW episode Mystery Of A Thousand Moons, and Freemakers episodes A Hero Discovered and Zander’s Joyride

So throughout these last couple posts I’ve spent whole paragraphs on what I love about each character; Rowan’s innocence, Kordi’s strength, R0-GR’s wittiness, even Naare’s craftiness. But I think out of all of this I’ve only given Zander a few sentences. That’s not fair in the slightest. So I’m glad I have the opportunity to give him the attention he deserves throughout this post.
Yes, there’s no doubt that Zander is a boss with his tools, and he darn well knows it. Guy could do it blindfolded and chained, which is good when you’re trying to sneak in a ship you don’t want him to get near. Unfortunately well… Zander knows a Naboo starfighter when he smells one. He breaks through them chains and pretty much falls on his knees before the might of the beautiful, sleek spacecraft. I can completely understand the feeling ’cause whooo those N-1s are purty! The reason this is a problem is because the ship belongs to a wealthy gentleman who’s trusting the Freemakers to fix it right. Bro’s a little high-maintenance but clearly he has the ca$h to be that way. Kordi expertly reassures Mr. Cooper his baby’s in good hands. Buuuuuut… well… his siblings’ insistence to not fly the N-1 goes unheard. And the second they turn their backs, Zander is off to the races! Again, I can’t really blame him. I mean, yes, I know that it wasn’t the wisest decision, but watching that golden beauty fly I can understand why you’d want to. Zander may be a little rash and unfocused and susceptible to Jedi mind tricks, but he knows a good spacecraft when he sees one! So now it’s up to Rowan, Roger, and Kordi to keep their customer busy. Also one thing I absolutely love about this show is all the stuff we learn about SW vehicles and how one might repair, build, or modify them. That makes sense right? I mean… just Star Wars mechanical jargon! It’s cool! IDK I think I’m failing to make my point clear. Moving on.
So it looks like Zander has the most marvelous time in that starfighter. He soars through asteroid field, does plenty of spins and dives, and doesn’t hesitate to challenge a bunch of X-wings to a race. ‘Course, no one told him that those X-wings technically belonged to the Rebel Alliance… and that he just flew right into a battle. I don’t know how it is someone could shoot down TIEs without even realizing it but wow Zander’s good. I really do love the fact that the Freemakers have utterly no interest or involvement in the war right now; it’s just a fantastic unique angle that we haven’t seen a lot of and it makes for spectacular storytelling, and certainly will be interesting if these guys ever find themselves Rebels. But yeah though Zander didn’t notice the damage he done, that Star Destroyer noticed. As the tractor beam pulls him in and a prerecorded message states his crime and potential punishment, Zan realizes that yeah he might be in trouble…
In continuing in the buying-some-time game, Kordi sends Roger to keep Wic Cooper entertained. C’mon you know you’re at a fancy hangar when you get to enjoy a celebrity (holo?)book reading before its release! Roger’s autobiography sounds like a good one! I mean, when you’ve been around the galaxy for forty years or so and fought on the opposing side of the Clone Wars, you’ve gotta have some good stories to tell! Also, I guess that answers a few of my questions as to what Roger can remember or can’t since he obviously remembers most of his life story. I mean, regarding battle droids, here’s what I’m thinking: they would march out and shoot clones and Jedi and other soldiers generally without question, but often we would see glimmers of the droids’ personalities when they would question their leaders’ plans, casually talk with each other, and of course panic. And it took Jaebo Hood nine months to reprogram a slew of battle droids into the Iego welcome wagon/personal slaves. So I guess my thought is: is there some part of their programming that restrains them from directly disobeying orders, but allows them to have some personality? Perhaps that violent part is what the Freemakers simply reprogrammed? OK I know that completely bored most people but it’s fascinating to me. I think Mr. Cooper is done with everything right now XP
Thankfully Zander was able to get a transmission out to his sibs before he was dragged off by stormtroopers. Kordi is in no way thrilled about this development (“I’M GONNA THROTTLE HIM!” were her exact words). Rowan suggests Master Naare help them, which Kordi is also not thrilled with until she remembers nutjob Jedi cost less than bounty hunters. As for our favorite Darksider-next-door, we catch her in the zone doing some lightsaber practice (with her red blade, of course). She’s clearly very good at this and enjoys doing it and did it just occur to everyone that it looks like she only has one lightsaber? And that that lightsaber has two differently color blades in it? How does that even work?? Of course she might just have two and I haven’t been paying attention but is the idea of a dual-personality blade not the coolest? Also interesting note: she’s practicing and seems chill and at ease, but the minute Darth Vader interrupts, she goes into a brief rage mode. Her markings and Sith eyes flare up and she powerfully and forcefully decimates the training probes. I mean yes it’s obvious she’s frustrated with the dark lord’s interruption, but it almost seems like the way she was fighting in the beginning was more Jedi-like, and she was at her best in that way, more balanced emotionally and physically. At risk of dumping out every theory I have on her, I will say I believe she was trained as a Jedi before deflecting to the Dark Side. Soooo might this sort of be a sign that maybe she’s not as good at this whole Sith-y thing as she wants to believe? Maybe the slightest bit of a Kylo Ren “remind-me-again-how-awesome-the-darkness-is” thing? I don’t know maybe I’m completely off but it’s just a thought. Anyway so Vader has a whole thesaurus of ways to describe his master’s impatience with her progress, but um yeah Naare don’t got time for that, her padawan’s at the door. “Of course! You can put your trust in me! I am a Jedi after all…” Yikes there are some close calls in this episode. You have to wonder how long she can keep up this charade. I’m really enjoying the tension, but I’m kind of terrified as to when the other shoe will drop. Anyway, at word Zander’s on the Vendetta, Naare suggests bailing out. But Rowan instantly sees this, not as anything suspicious, but as a test, and that forces Naare to go back to her Jedi master guise. So the rescue mission is back on! And Kordi’s got the game plan: a makeshift TIE fighter! Master Naare just smiles, backs away, and heads off to her own spacecraft this time. Only the first of many awkward moments for the Imperial agent today.
Also the thing with Vader and his subordinate was perfect. “I TOLD YOU TO CHEW MORE CAREFULLY!” and then just when the dude could breathe again he actually does start Force-choking him XD Hehe I kinda missed seeing Darth Vader around here! But when he gets word a Rebel’s been captured and he has an opportunity to bring out the interrogation droid, Lord Vader drops everything. Boy man when I heard the words “interrogation droid” I shuddered. NOOO NOT ON SWEET PRECIOUS ZANDERRR!!
So after a really really close call with a damaged Imperial transponder, Rowan and company make it on board the Vendetta. Not unfortunately without drawing some attention to themselves in the process. Well, it’s not that they were trying to they just opened the door and BOOM! Stormtroopers! Makes you wonder why Kordi doesn’t carry a blaster around in situations like this. In fact, calling back to the scuffle in the pilot, she probably should’ve had one there, too. How do you survive in a war-torn galaxy making deals with potentially dangerous people without a good blaster in your hand?? Oh yeah probably because she knew Rowan might get ahold of it and we know how that would go. Good thing Naare handled it with her lightsaber and her fists. Also I did just notice it looks like her lightsaber is double-bladed, she just only turns on one end at a time. Still cool how she carries two different blades at once. I wonder if it was always this way, like, if she made a lightsaber as a Jedi, did it start out a double-bladed blue but then switched one crystal out for a red later? Or is this a specifically designed lightsaber for her current career? Theories! Theories everywhere! I really hope I’m not the only one thinking up theories and headcanons on this series…
As for Zander… poor guy doesn’t have a clue about the Rebel Alliance and he still gets tortured anyway. All he knows is his name, where he lives, and that he likes pickles, starships, and some girl a few floors up. But you know the Empire they don’t care. UGH WHYY MUST YOU HURT THIS POOR DUDE?! Though anyone realize that Darth Vader knows where they live now?? Man if the day comes when the Freemakers become a threat to the Empire… ohh… dang O.O I can only hope Zander slipped that part about The Wheel out so fast that Vader and the Imp didn’t catch it. Though it is good to know he likes pickles ’cause that means pickles must exist somewhere in the SW galaxy and that’s a good thing 🙂 But seriously wow this is kinda scary. And I’m realizing I still haven’t given Zander a proper paragraph forgive me. Words are failing me so hard today.
Again, I think Roger’s a pretty good writer! And that’s by human standards! He’s very descriptive, y’know? Though word to the wise, if he offers you anything to drink and it doesn’t look like kaffe DO NOT DRINK IT. IT IS MOTOR OIL. Wic learned that one the hard way.
“Utter nonsense. He’s either highly trained to resist interrogation or a complete imbecile.” Hey, what some might see as weaknesses can actually be strengths! Aw Zander you may not be the sharpest sometimes but we love ya 🙂 Oh and apparently Kordi doesn’t carry around a blaster, but she does keep around a screwdriver… or is that what they call a hydrospanner? Or something totally different? But no time for whatever she was gonna do with that Naare’s got this. Mostly because she already knew the code. Wow is there nothing she can’t do? So this whole rescue mission was giving off serious Episode IV vibes, right up until Kordi gave her brother the biggest chewing out of his life (or at least of the last week). But Zander is more than aware of his mistake and gives a genuine tearful apology… and then he realized Naare was there and then he went back into smooth mode XD Well, he was doing pretty good there for a while! Further discussion will have to wait — now’s the time to go. But soon as they turn the corner, there stands Darth Vader. And Naare’s done flown the coop. I’m all “OH NO SOMEONE’S GONNA DIE!!” because that’s generally what comes to mind when pretty much anyone runs into Darth Vader. The Freemakers plead their case that they’re not Rebels, just a few young scavengers. When the dark lord doesn’t buy it, Zander spills everything about how this joyride led him into a battle. Vader’s still skeptical up until he catches glimpse of the N-1 himself. Oh man it’s love. It’s like the first spacecraft he ever flew! And knowing his former self’s love of cool fast vehicles, it’s no surprise Vader absolutely fanboys over it. So no questions he took that puppy for a spin, happily proclaiming “YIPEE!!” XD And that’s when Naare showed up again, alerting the other Imperials that the “Rebels” were escaping in that ship. Hehe nice. Darth Vader was enjoying every moment in that old fighter, right up until he was surrounded by TIEs… ‘course, true to Vader form, he then enjoys every moment firing back and destroying those TIEs. Finally, it’s up to Rowan doing an Imp impersonation to rein the N-1 back in. And yeah after all that action the golden beauty isn’t quite so pretty anymore. Can’t tell who’s madder right now — Vader at his stormtroopers, or Kordi at Zander. But thankfully, with the troopers no longer buying any comment on escaping Rebs, the Freemakers and co have time to slip on outta there.
So things went well back at the hangar. Or at least, about as well as you might’ve figured considering Cooper’s precious baby came home a pile of scrap metal. He was pretty steamed, at least until he eyed the Blazemaker. Zander is reluctant to give up his latest greatest creation, but considering Cooper wouldn’t bat an eyelash at reporting them to the Empire… sacrifices had to be made today. Anddd thennn just as Mr. Cooper flew off in his new baby… it exploded. Welp that’s just how it goes. Assuming he gets back to solid ground before he suffocates, I’m betting the Freemakers are gonna owe someone a lot of money… or else Naare’s gonna have to mind trick someone again. Ah, fun times!
So that was a blast! After all the peril and shocking turns I’m glad we got a slightly lighter episode so we can catch our breath for a second. Sorry this blog’s kinda thrown-together, but hopefully you enjoyed all the utter nonsense anyway 🙂

Rebel Transmissions: The Mystery Of Chopper Base

So I had a lovely Star Wars Day yesterday. Watched Episode I (since it’s been officially five years since I first saw it), threw in a little Clone Wars action, some Lego Droid Tales fun, read my Original Trilogy Costumes book a bit, listened to songs with SW references, ate SW Cheez-Its, and wore my BB-8 schematics shirt! But my love of Star Wars doesn’t just pertain to one day a year, it’s everyday! So let’s continue the celebration with the totally-exciting, sometimes-frightening, and always-feely episode The Mystery Of Chopper Base!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from TCW episode Legacy Of Terror and Rebels episodes Out Of Darkness, The Siege Of Lothal, Shroud Of Darkness, The Forgotten Droid, and The Mystery Of Chopper Base.

It feels good seeing the mini-Alliance finally find home. And though it’s only stated in the title, I’m sure Chopper won’t let anyone forget that it’s his base. Also I’m gonna guess AP lost a bet XP We catch the Ghost family in the middle of movin’ in, going back and forth delivering stuff to the planet surface. But while Hera is looking forward to getting settled, a few of our crewmembers are planning on taking off. Kanan and Ezra are hard at work doing some seriously intense lightsaber training. Also we get to see their blue blades in training mode! I didn’t know they could do that, but it makes a lot of sense, considering no one wants to lose a limb while practicing. Fun uncovering new secrets of the SW galaxy! Aw man they seriously got skilllllz tho. They kinda have to since they’ve got the path to Malachor lying in front of them. They practice fighting like they mean it, like their lives absolutely 100% depend on it (which will likely be very true), and as fiercely and craftily and aggressively as they can. But their skillz are pretty equally matched, as they keep coming to a draw. And as Kanan explains, there are no ties in lightsaber duels. So that means MORE PRACTICE! Whoo-hoo. Hera watches her boys with pride, but also with a glimmer of sadness. Things are getting real out here man. Just watching Kanan practice-fight dirty like an inquisitor reminds us of that. And yes I am writing this completely from the perspective I had the day I watched this. Just wanted to clear that up again.
Also “THIS IS MY EXCITED FACE!” OMG I died laughing. So perfectly Kanan. He mighta just started a meme right there. But Hera doesn’t share her copilot’s enthusiasm. Though I completely sympathize with Hera’s feelings in this moment, Kanan looks so confused it’s hilarious. Also HI AP-5!! He’s gonna have to get used to the fact the Ghost crew’s always fashionably late 🙂 The world they’re setting up roots on is dry and hot and has an abundance of tiny crabby-things (which I find rather adorable, don’t tell Zeb), but it’s home! But… well, there’s always a “but”. A young Reb was setting up sensors around the perimeter when a much much larger pest problem reared its ugly head. The little bogans mirror our own reaction as she falls prey to the nightmarish beast. Oh look things just got more real.
Elsewhere Kanan and Hera survey their handiwork as the base continues to come together. But knowing Kanan and Ezra won’t be here, it makes it a little harder for Hera to be enthusiastic. Kanan reiterates how important it is for them to get the inquisitors off their backs if they want to keep this mini-Alliance going. To his credit, he’s trying here, even finally says “yeah you were right being part of a larger Rebellion is awesome”, but boy still don’t quite quite get it. But then word that one of their lieutenants is missing puts this conversation on hold. Rex and Sabine are on the case!
This won’t be the first time you hear me say this in this post, but Mystery Of Chopper Base is super-super nostalgic in addition to being always-feely. Because with the future ahead uncertain, this sorta feels like a last episode for everybody together. This golden little moment in the midst of the craziness definitely fits the nostalgia feels. Hehe Chopper seems to be living up to his “grumpy pet cat” description as he pursues a smol crab and rams right into Ezra. The astromech continued his chase after letting Ez know where Zeb went off to. Ah just like the good ol’ days… always running here and there and then getting tripped up by the family C1. Much nostalgia right there 🙂 So Zeb was outside, already had a little spot of his own set up and enjoying the sunset. Interesting thought do you think Lasan was generally a hotter-temperatures planet? We know Zeb isn’t fond of the cold (but who is really?), and I get the feeling that this isn’t the most temperate world. Perhaps Zeb favors more warm desert-y climates? He even seems to have toes like a species of desert lizard (that I can’t remember the name of) that helps them walk on hot ground without burning their feet! Of course the sun is setting so maybe the weather’s more favorable at this point and he’s enjoying a more temperate evening. OK yeah I know I’m weird but like I’ve said before weather in SW is fascinating because it’s rarely obvious. Also a thought on Lasat and their old homeworld again. I’ll stop rambling now. But yeah… it’s majorly presh as Zeb invites Ezra to just chill out with him a moment. Ezra’s aware that a lot’s up in the air with what may ultimately come of their trip to Malachor. But Zeb throws some solid encouragement his way, knowing his little bro’ll be back, and by then they’ll both have stories to tell 🙂 And so with that they turn up the radio and simply enjoy the moment, whatever the future holds. AUGH. THE ABSOLUTE FEELS. Still gets me thinking how much they’ve grown, how they’ve truly become brothers. GAH MOVING ON BEFORE I CRY.
Meanwhile, Rex and Sabine’s search for the lieutenant turned up dry, but they did find a HORRENDOUS GIANT CRAB-SPIDER THING!! Yeesh I wish I remembered all the species names in this episode. And now they’re back and in greater numbers! The clone and the Mando’s awesomeness combined is a sight to behold. But with the crawlers’ crusty hides resilient to blasterfire, Sabine gets knocked out and Rex gets carried off very quickly. Sabine gets back on her feet and manages to down a few of the creeps with a shot to the eye, but they very nearly get her too. Good thing the Ghost and its crew had her back. No questions the family’s making sure they get their resident “grandpa” back! OK except maybe for Zeb ’cause he’s got a problem with multi-leggers… “MORE THAN TWO LEGS IS JUST… EXCESSIVE!”. Careful bro you might’ve offended some of Admiral Trench’s spider-person kin. Granted they really just have multiple arms instead of legs, but I assume it would still come off just as creepy. Hmm… season 3 episode prediction: Zeb has to negotiate a deal with the spider-people. That would go well XD
And so, armed with lightsabers and flashlights, the Ghost team enters the tunnels. Also that bit where Ezra one-ups Zeb’s dinky flashlight with his ‘saber? PERFECTION XD With so many routes to go, Kanan suggests they split up. But instead of Ezra with half of them and Kanan with the other half, Hera suggests the Jedi go separately, knowing they’ll need to get used to Rebelling without the Force-wielders around. Again, getting some sad vibes here. So ’bout as soon as the master and padawan turn around there’s a crawler staring them down. Ezra decides to try and Force-connect with it, since, after all, it’s kinda his thing. But it seems the beastie doesn’t respond to such and just rather’d eat them. It took Kanan about 1.2 seconds to leap to his apprentice’s defense and kill the bug. Also yet another golden quote: “You always change the subject when I start winning!” XD Man the season’s been over for a month and I’m already missing the sound of their camaraderie…
So if there’s one thing that we learn from this episode, it’s that giant spider dens are creepy to the max. Oh wait, I think we already learned that from Legacy Of Terror in TCW, except those were zombie Geonosians but the principle is the same. Thank goodness Rex is still alive… even though being caught in the creature’s terrifying grip sorta puts a time limit on that matter. Hera, Sabine, and Zeb manage to pry open the cage of spider legs and free their comrade, buuuuut it’s hard to do that without waking it up so… time to go. Seems like everywhere they turn though more crawlers show up! The blaster-wielding side of the family holds their own well, but they can only shoot so many at once. Just as Hera was about to try taking one down herself, the ‘saber-wielding side of the family made their entrance. Together they manage to get out of the tunnels, but the Ghost isn’t too much safer. Those bugs quickly get to work on webbing the ship down. Ezra, Zeb, and Kanan take to the big guns, and Hera and Sabine whip out the bug-zapping shield they used on the fyrnocks, but neither make much of a dent in the spidercrabs. Only option now is to cut the ship free. Zeb’s all “NOPE”. To which Ezra responds “Greaaat the last Jedi in the galaxy are gonna get eaten BECAUSE YOU WERE TOO AFRAID TO COME OUTSIDE!!” Ah so many priceless moments 😛 It’s looking like there’s no way to stop the crawlers, but then Sabine realizes they’re bothered by the sensor markers, the only reason they hadn’t set foot on the base, and the other reason they didn’t attack her earlier that day. Time for an Ezra plan! While the rest of them defend the ship from the bugs, Ezra and Kanan’ll Force-throw Sabine over to the sensor. “It’s times like this I reallyy wish I had a jetpack”. Wellll if someone had picked up on all those hints she left for Life Day things might be different now! XP New season 3 episode prediction: Sabine buys a used jetpack at the market and finds out it was stolen from Boba Fett and he’s not happy. Of course, things go well and they mayyy have given her too much of a push and oh look a cliff. *Facepalm* Couldn’tve planned for that, could ya? Also, wow major props to Rex for taking on that crabspider like he did. I mean, he basically WRESTLED IT OUT and KICKED IT IN THE FACE. Not bad for an old clone! And thank goodness ’cause man that got scary at times. Speaking of, how’s Sabine doin? Thankfully she had more of a grip on that cliffside than it looked when Ezra and Kanan pitched her over. But then ANOTHER ONE IS COMING UP BEHIND HER!! AHHH!! Thankfully she manages to get back up and get to the sensor just in time. She’s in charge now, crawlers! She’s in charge! With that, the Jedi cut the Ghost loose and head for home!
So even though the bugs are a bit of a drawback, Hera’s not about to give up this base, no sir. Ultimately, the sensors are the answer, just lots and lots and lots of sensors. Kanan’s glad to see their pest problem resolved, but Sabine’s finally done holding her silence “GO. TALK. TO. HERA.” Yes she’s noticed. She done noticed everyythingg. Kanan’s all derp like “Whut?” and Sabine’s all *facepalm* “MEN! SHE’S GONNA MISS YOU, YOU DOLT!”. He got the hint this time. Thank goodness ’cause we were all thinking what Sabine was thinking. Though I will note, as Kanan walks away, Sabine has this hint of a smile on her face… yeeeees she ships ’em just as much as we do.
So when Kanan walks over, Hera immediately turns the conversation to business stuff, since she thinks that’s probably all she’s gonna get from him. But in his own kinda awkward way, he reassures her he and Ezra’ll be all right. For a moment, he puts all the business matters and uncertainties aside, and they share a tender, bittersweet goodbye hug. “We’ll see each other again…” he promises. I absolutely about died of feels here. There were tears on my part I can promises you that. Even with no idea what was to come, it’s impossible not to feel as though it’s final somehow. It’s absolutely beautiful, and it most definitely speaks volumes about their relationship at this point, and it basically leaves me reeling with feels. Le sigh… I do love Kanan and Hera together something awful ❤
In the last few enigmatic moments of the second-to-last episode, we find Ezra trying again to reach out to a spidercrab, only to be snarled at again. At least this time it's from the safety of the sensor-surrounded base. It's about then when Ahsoka arrives. Ezra ponders why it is he can't connect, but Ahsoka can only further ponder on the many mysteries of the Force. Some questions simply can't be answered. But for now, they have bigger questions to find answers to. Malachor awaits.
So I think all I can do after an episode this incredible is wish you the best of luck to recovering from those feels. Especially if you're like me and already saw what happens next, but that's another post for another day. Until then…

Rebel Transmissions: Homecoming

Silly computer… you think a messed-up monitor can keep me from writing about Star Wars? You thought wrong. And so in continuing getting caught up with these Rebel Transmissions, I bring you some riveting discussion on the absolute gem known as Homecoming! Forgive my rambling I’m so excited about writing this one I’m a little all over the place. Let’s get to it already!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode VII, The Clone Wars episodes Innocents Of Ryloth, Liberty On Ryloth and Supply Lines, and Rebels episodes The Protector Of Concord Dawn, and Homecoming.

It shouldn’t be so difficult to nab a few supplies from the Imperials right? This is just a normal cut-and-dry run right? Eh not so much today. The Ghost and Phoenix crew got what they came for, but at an unfortunate price. RIP Phoenix Squad Girl 😦 Hera is well aware things haven’t been going as easy as they were a season ago. Sato knows of something that could help though — a big ol’ Imperial ship ripe for the Rebs’ taking, and a handful of freedom fighters… right there in the Ryloth system. Time for the Captain to make a call. A call she seems… well, less than thrilled about making. Might have something to do with the fact she’s addressing the leader of this cell “father”. *Dramatic pause*
And then Twilight abruptly ended the dramatic pause so she could fangirl over the presence of Cham Syndulla, Hera’s backstory, and Kanan being incredibly adorably awkward. It’s not abnormal for me to want to discuss a flood of things all at once when blogging about a SW something but this one is really hard to sort out without spewing my fangirling over three systems. But I shall tryz my best. First order of business is 100% the Kanan awkdorableness. And I know “awkdorable” isn’t a word but it is now. Bro’s all nerves when it comes to meeting Cham, who is not only a big deal Clone Wars hero who served with Jedi he knew, but is also, well, Hera’s dad. Ohohoho I enjoyed this whole little scene too too much… Kanan attempting to spiff himself up, attempting and somewhat failing at keeping his cool (“JUST STAY CALM!”), and of course, getting the kids’ names completely mixed up (Ezra’s little head shake in response is just perfect) XD Prior to this episode, I’ve thought up a few stories as to how the potential meeting might’ve gone, mostly a lot of awkward-funny protective-dad stuff. Lucasfilm took what I’d always wanted to see and made it a thousand times better than I could’ve done it. I simultaneously died laughing and died of Kanera-related feels the entirety of this little nugget. It didn’t occur to me until I watched the Recon that some of this awkdorbsness might’ve had to do with Cham’s connections to Kanan’s past as well, but hey my first instinct is to fangirl and I trust my instincts. So now that the unavoidable romance-related fangirling is over, we move on to the next area of nerding out, Cham Syndulla. Ah yes as soon as I found out how Hera related to the Syndullas all that time ago, I was dying to learn more and maybe, just maybe, see this boss twi’lek walk into Rebels. Plus, watching TCW episodes Liberty On Ryloth and Supply Lines didn’t help because I spent the whole time saying “HOLY CRUD THEIR FACES ARE SO MUCH ALIKE…!”. Yeah Kanan and Sabine aren’t the only ones who are huge fans. I’ve always found him a cool character, but came to love him even more this past year having understood his ties to Hera. And so here we are! Finally getting to reunite with him at last! And he still is a seriously cool dude, full of an honorable confidence and a killer smile. With fearless comrades Gobi and Numa(!!) by his side, he’s everything the history holos make him out to be. Though we do need to note that he greets Kanan first and Hera doesn’t drop any pleasantries. Something’s not quiiiiite right here still, and that becomes more evident during the briefing…
So problem: Hera wants that Imperial ship for the mini-Alliance’s use, Cham wants it destroyed since that same ship hurt his people so many times. You know how awkward it gets when you’re at the dinner table and two family members start arguing but they start out really quietly and passive-aggressively in an attempt to keep it from getting awkward but it still gets awkward anyway? *Takes breath* Well that’s pretty much what happened here. YOU DO NOT MESS WITH BOSS LADY CAPTAIN SYNDULLA AND HER PLANS!! But similarly CHAM IS BOSS LADY’S FATHER SO YOU DON’T MESS WITH HIS PLANS!! And Kanan’s all “Heyyy everybody howzabout we all just work together and hug it out?”. Cham and his crew seem to be pleased with Kanan’s answer and go with the plan only because the Jedi goes with the plan. Hera’s day just gets worse all the time. Is it just me or does Cham look a little smug about all this? *Cough* makes sense in retrospect… either way, we get why Hera needed some alone time after this. While she did some therapeutic bolt-tightening, she explained to Ezra a little of what went down. How the Empire’d cost her family and homeworld much and how it sorta made her dad put fighting over family… at least, the family he had left, anyway. So considering all things it shouldn’t be a surprise that Hera and Cham aren’t exactly on the best of terms. And then Mr. Syndulla decides to interrupt for a moment. Ezra decides now’s a good time to go, but also drops some serious wisdom before leaving “More important than family? There’s nothing more important to me.” #SickBurn #YouJustGotServedButDidntRealizeIt Funny, wasn’t it only a season ago that Hera was dropping mind-blowing shuts-everyone-up wisdom on Ezra? Whoaaa dude again #Sick. #Burn. And yes I realize hashtags don’t work on WordPress but I don’t care it just felt right. Anyway, yeah… so there they were, Hera and her dad and her droid all alone. The conversation starts on Chopper, as Cham recognizes the rustbucket as a droid she’d found during the Clone Wars. Wow not only do we get a heap of backstory on Hera today but we even get a good chunk of Chop’s origins in here too! (Though #rude don’t refer to Chopper as a junk pile… at least when he’s right there in the room with you; that’s just common courtesy) But we’ll talk more about that another day. For now… yeah… the Syndullas have other things to talk about. So again, long as I’ve known Cham was Hera’s father, I’ve had plenty of ponderings on where that left them now. Was he still in the business of rebelling? Did he support her decision to go off Rebel-ing? Heck, I didn’t know if he was even alive or not until this episode aired. After all, when Hera remarked “we’ve all lost enough family to the Empire” a number of episodes ago, it could’ve easily referred to Cham. Though technically I suppose it could still refer to him, at least in an emotional way, in that he’s not the same man he was before the Empire royally screwed things up, in addition to losing her mom. I’d had the tiniest hope that maybe things were better somehow and that he’d supported her mission from the get-go but well… I’d always allowed for the thought that that might not be the case. Hera goes for the galaxy at large while Cham aims for just Ryloth. Both noble missions, but it’s hard for either of them to see the nobility of each other’s missions when they so firmly believe that neither are what’s right for the galaxy. It’s easy to side with Hera, especially as her legit Rylothian accent sparks up and makes her bossladyness all the more boss, and of course, since we see most of the war from her perspective and understand her point of view more clearly. It makes it equally easy to discredit Cham for his seemingly small-minded view and the fact he dissed her lifework and her droid, but when I think of how difficult it must be have lost your family in some way to the Empire (in one way physically, in the other way by physical and emotional distance as Hera chose to fight the Empire on a bigger scale), I can allow myself to see both sides of the situation. Cham’s always been a bit different in the way he does things and the choices he makes. After all, once upon a time he was hesitant to work with the great Mace Windu — all because of political differences! But he always means well, ultimately. So boring philosophical stuff over. Bottom line, no, the conversation did not end well. Poooooor Chopper getting caught in the middle of all that. And poor Hera, too, because you know she didn’t really want things to go that way. I mean, turning things into a shouting match is not how she rolls. Hera’s more often than not been the peacekeeper, the one everyone else talks to when they have a problem. Since when does Hera have any problems, y’know? Because she’s so great at dropping wisdom and being a great listener and friend/surrogate mom we sorta forget she has problems like anyone else. Kind of like how The Protector Of Concord Dawn reminded us she’s not above physical injury or accidents, we’re reminded that yeah SHE’S HUMAN. Or perhaps the SW-correct term would be SHE’S A SENTIENT BEING. But knowing this doesn’t make her any less of an amazing character, only makes her more relatable to those of us who can only dream of possessing her levels of bossladyness and kindness.
So considering all that shook down today, it’s no surprise that Hera’s not interested in hearing her dad’s Clone Wars stories. Hehe her face is pretty much the same as mine whenever I hear someone hate on SW 😛 I do love the enthusiasm Cham puts into his storytelling though. Who can forget that thrilling adventure when Mace and Cham and the clones and twi’leks bonded together and liberated Ryloth and whupped Wat Tambor and his crew?? RIVETING!! And oh so many nostalgia feels! Kanan is all “OMG HERA YOUR DAD IS SO COOL!!” and at this point it’s hard to tell who’s fanboying over who XD This does nothing to shake her opinion on her dad at the moment. Though Hera doesn’t quite feel like agreeing to the statement, I find Kanan’s compliment on “seeing a lot of him in you” to be too darn sweet… after all, it’s kinda true y’know :3 And I just realized I’ve spent two hours on just eight minutes of this episode so I better get a move on already. But hey you try writing with this many feels in a short period of time!
So how exactly do you go about grabbing hold of an Imperial cruiser? Well, it all starts with a TIE Bomber and Kanan’s spot-on imitation of a Bomber pilot. With some fellow Rebels on their tail, our heroes look like any other innocent Imperial spacecraft. Then Hera plays her part and does a spot-on imitation of a crash landing in the hangar. Spot-on mostly because that’s pretty much exactly what she did. Seriously these things really could use some seatbelts of some kind. So the Empire totally bought it and everything was going pretty well right up until it didn’t… precisely the moment when it became clear to the Ghost crew that the twi’lek fighters had other plans. More so precisely when Numa PULLED A STINKIN’ BLASTER ON THEM!! It wasn’t part of the plan for Sabine to do a spot-on imitation of TR-8R, but it happened anyway. But yeah that was terrifying. We didn’t realize for a few moments that she’d had it on stun so there was a brief horrifying moment where it seemed darling little Numa and diligent loyal Gobi KILLED THEM! Y’know Cham I get you want to inspire your people with a little anti-Empire fireworks show but if you wanted to potentially patch things up with your daughter… this was not the way to do it. Granted, despite I was pretty shocked and disgusted at Cham’s decision, he got some cool points back as he and his crew pwn those ‘troopers. May be traitors but still one fiercely cool crew, am I right? Though once we go back to Hera, he loses cool points again because he cuffed his daughter to the seat. Classy move, Mr. Syndulla. Thankfully, the effects of the stunning don’t last long on the Ghost family, ’cause Hera still intends to stop her dad and keep this ship in one piece. Zeb and Sabine take on Gobi and Numa and a slew of stormtroopers along the way. OK still despite Numa’s betrayed the snot out of the Rebs, it’s still truly truly cool seeing her in Rebels all grown up. And hey, she could’ve grown up to do anything, she was just one incredibly adorable little girl, after all, who might or might not remember that one day she called clone troopers her brothers. Seeing that she chose to fight for the right thing, and not only that but she’s stellar at it, is the perfect capper to her legacy. Waxer and Boil would be proud :3 But anyway right now most of us have a problem with Numa’s choices. She’s just being loyal, I guess, so you gotta give her some credit despite pointing a weapon at our heroes is a major party foul. Numa warns Cham of the Rebels getting back on their tails, and Mr. Syndulla assures her he can handle his boss lady child if she and Gobi handle the rest of ’em. And with the way Cham knocks down those stormtroopers, well… it definitely gives the impression he’s right. Yikes. But guess what? The bossness in this family runs both ways as potential son-in-law and honorary grandson absolutely TEAR IT UP. Ahhhh it’s too cool watching Kanan and Ezra use the Force so interconnectively and so flawlessly. You thought doors and blasterfire could keep them down? Please. All #FamilyGoals are to be as cool and united as the Ghost family is. Also, applause is in order for Ezra mastering his first Jedi mind trick! Kanan looks so terribly proud it gives me many feels. He did well even if he did lay it on a bit thick “I reallllly mean it… this is the captain” XD XD Best use of mind trick since “…and you’ll drop your weapon”? Your call. Anyway, so basically the bridge is no longer on their list of obstacles and all the storms are abandoning ship. And Sabine makes quick work of Cham’s cronies with a nice zapping from a mouse droid, so #win. Unfortunately that’s where the wins stop because as Hera and the crew find out a bit too late, Cham turned off the hyperdrive. Greaaaaaat. Hera tries again to explain how much better having a ship to use against the Empire would be than just blowing it up to make a show, but once Cham gets his mind set on something, he sticks to it. To a slightly unhealthy extent. And with Imperial reinforcements on their way, this is really a bad time to have an unhealthy obsession of any kind except maybe an unhealthy obsession with NOT DYING!! It’s only when Hera decides to talk about the heart of the matter over the logic that she finally starts to get through. When she tells her dad how he inspired her to fight for others, and how far that desire’s led her… it gives reason for Gobi and Numa to switch sides pretty quickly, and gives Cham a moment, just a smidge of a moment, to give his little girl a chance for once. No one didn’t follow up with a triumphant “YAAAAS!!” I don’t think 🙂 For once the family’s working together on all fronts as each and everyone mans the guns and knocks down TIE after TIE and bomber after bomber. On a brief random note, let me just say it made me smile a little to hear Zeb refer to them as “lousy Imps”; I’ve been using that shortened term on the blog for a while so it was nice to know it’s a canon phrase 🙂 Things go pretty well up until one torpedo fries the ship’s controls and the craft starts to descend. It’s only when Cham grabs hold of the yoke along with Hera that they’re able to get it back under control. AWWZ SWEET DADDY-DAUGHTER FEELS!! Sorry anyway, now’s the time for a “lousy Sabine plan”! Or better yet a “lousy Sabine-and-Ezra plan”! Cham’s willing to help though he has no idea what to think of their madcap methods. And ultimately, hey, is there any better recipe for success than bomber + Force push + explosives? In this situation, I think not. Those reinforcements went down just like that. So how’s about that? The mini-Alliance gets their ship, Ryloth gets its fireworks show, long-broken family ties get some major healing, and Twilight gets feels. Beautiful, just beautiful. And then, before their goodbyes, Cham and Hera finally get to hugging it out. That’s what was missing beforehand! A sweet tender daddy-daughter hug! Hera’s a dreamer like her mom, but learned to be a leader like her dad. So if you think about it… we owe this great twi’lek some major thanks. Because without Cham having been a strong, inspiring leader to Ryloth… his young daughter likely wouldn’t have set off that first small spark of rebellion in a long chain of sparks that would lead to the firey blaze that continues to get bigger by the day, the blaze that is clearly seen in the six individuals who stand together now.
*Sniff* Is someone cutting onions?? WHO AM I KIDDING I’M A HOT MESS RIGHT NOW. I LOVE STAR WARS SO MUCHHHHHHH. *Cough* sorry I really should stop now. Congrats for making it to the end! You deserve a medal! Until the next Transmission…

Keep The Peace,

Rebel Transmissions: Stealth Strike

Blogger’s Note: You may be wondering why this came a week late, well the holidays are keeping me quite quite busy for one. I’m thinking that this will be the last Rebel Transmission for the year, since I want the next couple of blogs to be primarily devoted to Episode VII’s release. The Transmissions for The Future Of The Force and beyond will resume in the year to come. Thank you for your patience.

And so we’ve arrived at another Rebel Transmission for another super-amazing episode. And that sounded like a severe understatement. Yeahh… I’m kinda running on empty for a creative opening for this, so let’s just get started on talking about the totally thrilling, very funny, and extremely heartfelt Stealth Strike!
NOTE: Contains spoilers from Episode III and Rebels episodes Spark Of Rebellion, Breaking Ranks, Brothers Of The Broken Horn, and Stealth Strike

Today Ezra’s joined up with Commander Sato and a few of his Phoenix Squad buddies on a bit of a search-and-rescue. A lot of the fun of this episode is in seeing two of our Specters working together with two of our newer Rebs. There’s a great mix of headbutting and camaraderie that’s absolutely irresistible, and we get a chance to further get to know Ezra and Kanan as well as Sato and Rex. I bring this obvious fact up because Sato isn’t terribly impressed with Ezra’s skills at the moment. Pff Satos gonna sate XD (I’m so sorry but I’ve been dying to use that since I started writing this) And then out of the blue, their cruiser literally gets sucked out of hyperspace and right into the path of one nasty new Imperial ship. They have about a second to shoot a distress call to the Ghost before everything gets cut off. And we in the audience feel absolutely sick from terror at the fact the Empire’s grabbed them just like that. At least I know I did.
Once the rest of the Ghost crew catches wind of this, Kanan’s no-questions going after them. And Hera’s sending Rex with him. Kanan very very much expresses his displeasure of working with him. I imagine partly due to their battles over rights to train Ezra as well as his general distrust of clones. But Hera is certain Rex’s knowledge of Republic-turned-Empire procedures and his military experience will bring a lot to the table on this mission. It takes her reminding him just how crucial rescuing Ezra and the Phoenixes is to get Kanan to ultimately agree. Kanan knows what he has to do even if it’s not what’s preferred… and also knows that arguing with Hera on the matter is a battle he definitely won’t win XP
On the other end of this conundrum, we find Ezra, Sato, and the rest of their crew aboard the Empire’s newfangled craft, getting a talking-to by Admiral Titus. I don’t know why but the minute he came onscreen I muttered “he looks like a sad clown”. I cannot tell you why exactly… but just picture him with some facepaint and I think it’ll make more sense. Whatever the case, bro is definitely not someone I’d want to be friends with. He’s just too proud of himself for nabbing a big shot Rebel like Sato on his ship’s first run! Literally, he’s too proud of himself. Ugh. Ezra, who’s still formulating a plan, gives him nothing more than his fake name, no not Lando, not Dev, it’s his other other fake name, Jabba. Apparently Kallus and Titus must talk a lot because the Admiral recognized Ezra from that nickname. So now he’s even more puffed up over who he caught. *Sigh* Don’t you hate it when good sarcasm is lost on snooty villains? And like that the Rebs are carted off to get locked up. Yup hate it when this happens.
So Kanan and Rex get off on the right foot NOT. I mean, dang man! Rex is clearly a good guy and you’re giving him this crud about clones and storms being essentially the same! I’m not saying you guys have to get along all the time, that you can’t occasionally play tug-of-war with Ezra, but c’mon Kanan this is low. You act like you’ve never worked with clones before! Yes I get that you have a slight problem with them as a whole because of stuff but it’s not their fault, and Rex has done nothing but fight for the good guys since he became a part of the mini-Alliance! And I realize it sorta sounds like I’m ranting. Sorry about that. But that does make an interesting point… how much did Kanan work with clones back in the day? And how much did he remember about them either way? Wasn’t at least his master chummy with them? Didn’t he have a clone friend or two? Either way I suppose he was a bit young and having your own soldiers turn on you probably could change your perspective. Yeah I really shouldn’t be so hard on Kanan, I mean, I love him as much as I love Rex, so I didn’t need to spend a whole paragraph yelling at him all the things I would’ve yelled at him had I been there. And he has been through stuff I can’t fully imagine, so yeah… but they’ve got to put their arguing on hold for a minute because Zeb has brought them a couple lone bucketheads for their disguises. I imagine Zeb out there crouching around like a tiger at some Imperial outpost, singling out his prey, trying to locate the weakest as well as the ones who would fit Kanan and Rex best. I can see him now, leaping majestically from the shadows and mauling the unsuspecting ‘troopers, then dragging his kill prisoners back to the Ghost. The one thing I’d rather not imagine is what in the world they did with them after they stripped them of their armor… and bodysuits… eww. Anywayyy so Rex isn’t a fan of that ‘trooper armor. Let’s talk about that. You may ask why it’s worth discussion, but I think it goes a little bit farther than just it being a bit tighter than he’d prefer, which honestly is interesting because I wasn’t aware that stormtrooper armor came in anything but one size. Oh wait well that could just be because Rex doesn’t fit into the standard size… forgive me that was a bit rude to bring up, but I’m just writing this where my thoughts take me. But yeah I have a feeling that clonetrooper armor > stormtrooper armor for a number of reasons. I imagine after the Empire came to be and they retired all the clones they decided to get a cheaper, more easily-made armor for all the new soldiers. In fact I’m pretty sure most of the differences between troopers are because Palpatine wanted to buy some expensive new speeder and they had to lower their budget because of it; hire people instead of cloning, cheaper armor, more efficient training… I guess because they figured there was no real war going on it didn’t matter if they weren’t as good as clones. Welp how’s that going for you now, Palpatine? Wow we have fun conversations here at Padawanline don’t we? YAY IMPERIAL ECONOMICS! 😛 And then Sabine brings in their ride, a pretty standard Imperial shuttle, which Kanan queries on why they’re able to steal so many as it is. Which brings me to another interesting point… sorry sorry kidding… that’s the last of the intelligent SW conversation for this paragraph. Not likely for the entire post, but at least for now because danggg only four-and-a-half minutes in and I’ve already hit 1200 words! Yeah this is why this transmission’s taken so long to write…
And yesss that artwork in the shuttle of Rex and Kanan is amazing, even if Kanan and Rex don’t seem all-too fired up about it. Aw c’mon how can Sabine’s art not get you fired up?! Or at least kinda inspire a teensy bit of teamwork in here? Imperial-painted Chopper is enjoying all the sarcasm and snark flying around the room though. Thank goodness they spot that ship as quickly as they do… these two in a confined space for a long period of time is bad news. Rex drops some major protocol codes like a boss. Kanan is so completely uninterested in that kinda stuff, as we well know, but is slightly more interested when it gets them in without a hitch. That grin Rex shoots him. Priceless. Oh, and then they’re all “Just follow my lead” “NO YOU FOLLOW MY LEAD” XD And then it’s time for Kanan to drop some mind tricks like a boss. Interesting thought… he only mindtricked one ‘trooper, but the other one opened the door for them. Did he have both guys convinced somehow? Because if not that guy should’ve been kinda suspicious. Or perhaps completely fired. AND ERMAGOSH THE AWKWARDNESS IN THE ELEVATOR! The guys have been doing so well and then they both do some floundering as Rex doesn’t know how to close the doors and Kanan doesn’t know the Imperial protocol lingo. Ah goodness gracious I could keep quoting the best lines but if I did I’d pretty much be quoting the whole episode! They’ll save our heroes… eventually…
Meanwhile Ezra’s kinda saving himself. OK hardly “kinda”, he’s pretty much doing all of it! I mean, turning on his blaster-saber while the stormtrooper had it holstered?! That is incredible! I don’t know how it is I’ve never seen a stunt like that in the entirety of the history of SW, but it is great. Man oh man, those moves he does with his ‘saber! Clearly those lessons are paying off ’cause bro got mad skillz. And even with all these great moves, he doesn’t kill them. Much applause for young Bridger is in order. And then along come two more ‘troopers! And I’ll be honest the idea that they were Rex and Kanan didn’t even remotely occur to me… it made perfect sense that those downed dudes would need backup. That’s when Chopper rolled in all “Y’know you just stunned a couple friends of yours”. Ezra tries to tell the story a bit differently to Kanan and Rex, but Chopper got alllll that lovely material on video XD Kanan is dumbfounded, Rex is impressed. And that leads to an argument on the usefulness of stormtrooper armor, but what else is knew? They fight like cats and dogs. Wait that’s not quite right… more like a honey badger and a Tasmanian devil in a small room on a bad day XP Ezra don’t got time for this, he tells them his own plan, right after pointing out that their squabbling is half the reason he took this mission. The master and the captain exchange quite a look. Dude dey just got served. Kanan puts it well when he comments “He takes after Hera sometimes…” XD
So they didn’t quite get away with all this unnoticed though. The Imps are putting everything on lockdown and Titus has full intent to snuff their escapee out, so as not to prove Kallus right on the whole “he’s tougher-than-he-looks” thing. Rex and Kanan have to do a little shooting to see this plan through. And Ezra’s taken a little trip to the reactor core, where Chopper has his own plan to execute… a plan that involves turning off the gravity. We’ve had zero-G fights before in Rebels but with all the room in the ship’s core it’s the most 360-degree zero-G fight ever! Up until Chopper shuts it right off in the middle of it all. Watching Ezra practically land on his head like that made me wince. But that C1-10P knows what he’s doing, even when no one else does 🙂 And Kanan and Rex are doing pretty good holding their own too, even considering Rex “shoots like a stormtrooper”. Hehe I love it when he clocks that ‘trooper with his helmet XD And they have no problem rescuing Sato and the crew. Sato’s mind got blown wide open at the notion that Ezra already escaped; don’t think Sato’s gonna sate anymore. For a minute, Kanan and Rex were in tune as the master would force-grab a buckethead and the captain would take aim, “just like old times”. Everything was going to plan as our heroes made a dash for the exit, and then Rex does the incredibly noble thing of staying behind to fend off the Imperial forces. It’s almost hard to imagine that Rex could get worn out at all, but yeah he is only human… and a slightly older human at that… and a clone that ages faster than a normal human so he’s more of a seventy-something than the forty-something he’s most likely to be. This episode definitely reminded me of that fact… that somewhat sad prospect that he’s in the winter of his years, after being such an unmovable force during the Clone Wars and even now. Especially when the Imperials actually got him. I know I gave a loud gasp at that. Titus doesn’t get why someone who “helped shape the Empire and bring peace to the galaxy” would go rogue like that. Well I for one am completely insulted and hurt, probably just as Rex was at such descriptions. How drastically different are their views of the universe! And more specifically Order 66! The Admiral offers him a job training their forces if he surrenders his conspirators, but Rex doesn’t bat an eyelash before turning him down. And then… the interrogator probe. And the scream. Aughh my heart about broke into pieces here! But Kanan heard, and the expression on his face literally does make my heart break into pieces. The Rebs could leave now, they could be home free. But Kanan… he’s got to save his friend. AHH THE FEELS! Though Ezra’s all “What friend? Did you bring someone else with you?” 😛 But hey man Ezra’s got this and leads them on through the fire. Sato is definitely impressed. Hehe I love when he turns to his crew and relays “Don’t worry! He’s got this!”. I’m sure the rest of the squad’s all “Um… dude we know. What took you so long to figure that out?”.
So I can I just mention how much Admiral Titus grinds my gears? For the record, I don’t hold any real hate for him because all SW is awesome, but yeesh what a jerk! The whole “obsolete piece of field equipment” thing was just wrong. I mean, all the junk he was telling Rex was flat-out wrong but I don’t dare repeat any of it. This is not the way Captain Rex goes down! But it won’t be because Kanan yanks off that helmet and starts blasting at those baddehs! And Rex certainly knows how to throw a few seriously solid punches of his own. Now Titus don’t look so smug… that terrified expression is worth all the credits in the world XP And then the Phoenixes get back to their ship and Kanan and Rex board an escape pod and after a few frightening moments of uncertainty, Chopper’s plan comes through in the clutch, and the Empire’s own gravity comes crashing back down on them! Much applause is in order. And Titus had some eat some crow and “I-told-you-so”s from Kallus. So all ended well, and the captain and the master exchange a friendly salute and a bit of a smile. Though they may still have their differences now and then, I think it’s safe to say they can honestly and truly call each other “friend” now 🙂
Aww so much wonderfulness just happened! Though it took some time to put together I’m super-glad I was able to blog on this amazing episode (even though clearly my closing thoughts aren’t much to look at). Until next time…
