A Totally Fangirly Analysis Of The Episode IX Teaser

In part due to a busy schedule (and being very very behind on Resistance), I haven’t been able to keep up with Star Wars Celebration the way I usually have. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t had Star Wars on my brain in a big way these past few days — especially since that IX teaser dropped!

Typically, normally because of time, I wait to write these analyses until the trailer/second teaser. But guys, this is the last chapter in the Skywalker Saga. I want to capture as many of my thoughts as possible as we rise up to meet the big finale! So let’s rewatch this thrilling taste of what’s to come together, and I’ll share my moment-by-moment first reactions and the deep thoughts that followed.

Contains some spoilers from Episode VII, Episode VIII, and some of the other films before it.

0:00 – Rey’s intense breathing is equal to my own every time I watch this. Granted, mine has more to do with a severe case of fangirlitis than whatever has her on-edge.
0:03 – A part of me is a little annoyed the logo came in and made me wait five whole seconds to find out what was going on XP But hey, Lucasfilm deserves to take the spotlight for a moment! Without Lucasfilm, we wouldn’t have Star Wars anything!
0:08 – Stiiiiill trying to catch my breath. But how could I possibly do that when this is a Star Wars teaser? Epicness is about to hit me like a bomb and the anticipation is killing me!!
0:10 – YAY IT’S REY!
0:13 – What could she be facing down?
0:16 – I think it’s really fascinating that Rey’s outfit has gone from tan to gray to white. It’s very different than Anakin in the Prequels (who went from tan to reddish-brown to black) and Luke in the Originals (who went from white to tan to black). There some sort of symbolism here? Not that I could ever imagine Rey really wearing black, though.
0:18 – Oh so dramatic!! BUT WHAT ARE YOU FACING DOWN, GIRL?!
0:21 – OMG LUKE! Who is “we” though? Has Rey been having conversations with the other Force Ghosts? Is Luke himself a Force Ghost now? I’d like to think this narration is some sort of proof, but… you know how these trailers are at including great dialogue that doesn’t make it into the final film. Have to wait and see. But I kinda really’d like to see Yoda and Rey having a chat 🙂
0:24 – Whatever she is facing requires a lightsaber… (I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t recognize the hilt at first)
0:25 – What a shot, wow! Also wondering a bit where this desert is? Are we back on Jakku like Luke came back to Tatooine? Or could it be Tatooine? Or some place entirely different? Those mountains seem new, though — something neither desert world had…
0:27 – Again more beautifully intriguing dialogue from Luke. Maybe this has something to do with her reading all those Jedi texts. That would make sense why there’s a “we”.
0:29 – I KNOW THAT SOUND. THERE’S A TIE COMING.
0:31 – Weirdly enough, just one TIE. From my experience, they usually come in packs.
0:33 – OK soooo what’s the plan, Rey? How does one lightsaber stack up against one TIE? I feel like I’ve seen something similar in Rebels but I really can’t remember.
0:34 – That right there is the face of determination!
0:37 – “Every generation has a legend.” I love how this quote calls back to mind Episode I’s tagline, “Every saga has a beginning”. It might not’ve been intentional, but to me, it helps bookend the entire Skywalker story.
0:43 – Again, wishing I could figure out where this is. I am no expert on sand, sad to say.
0:46 – But that ridge does look a bit Tatooine-ish. It would be fitting to end the Saga on the world part of the story began on — that hot, dusty, irritating old sandpit that has witnessed some surprising moments of heroism over the decades.
0:51 – That TIE sounds like it’s coming up fast! ‘Course, I’ve never heard a TIE that didn’t sound fast.
0:53 – Yep that is fast. So fast I haven’t been able to figure if that’s Ren’s Bat-TIE Silencer or something else.
0:54 – THE BLUE BLADE LIVES!! After it was assumptively destroyed, I figured she’d do like other Jedi before her and get a new lightsaber next time around. And just like Luke and others, the new ‘saber would be a symbol of growth in skill and in the Force. But I like the idea that, instead, the mended Skywalker blade could be a symbol of her gaining a newfound strength, rising above the hurt in her past and the mistakes she’s made. #Inspiring
0:56 – Same lightsaber, but definitely some new skillz.
0:57 – Ren’s gloves, I presume. Pardon me for asking, Kylo, but don’t you have anything better to do right now than fly your TIE at people? I mean… who took over for Snoke? Surely you wouldn’t trust just anyone to lead the First Order, right…? I’ve been wondering that one for a while.
0:59 – Hold up I thought that TIE was coming toward her– oh wait now I remember she turned around.
1:00 – Seriously what’s the plan here Rey??
1:03 – Whatever it is, I know it’s gonna be cool.
1:05 – Hmm I think that’s the Silencer now. Not that I’m an expert or anything.
1:07WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Just when you think you’ve seen all the epic things the light-aligned can do…! Though I just realized we still don’t know what her plan was. Is Rey going to ride the TIE and lightsaber its panels off? Or something even epic-er?
1:09 – It always feels like it takes forever, but Christmastime and Star Wars go together wonderfully!
1:11 – These mountains call to mind Solo a bit… nuts, I can’t remember the world’s name.
1:14 – If it is the same place, it seems a bit more populated.
1:16 – Kylo Ren seems to enjoy happy jaunts in the woods with his lightsaber, doesn’t he? 😛 Sorry that wasn’t nice (to Kylo or the guy he stabbed).
1:17 – Is that red sky just a result of sunset, or is it always a red sky? Either way, very cool.
1:18 – Interesting… while Rey has repaired her lightsaber, Ren is repairing his mask. Why does he decide now to wear it again? And how did he find all the pieces??
1:19 – Hey check out the bros’ cool adventure duds! Oh, and hmm is that Rey’s old staff Finn is holding?
1:21 – BB!!! I know I see you all the time in Resistance now, but I’m excited to see you here all the same! And his new little buddy D-O, too!
1:23 – YAS LANDOOOO!!!! And he’s wearing something akin to one of his Solo outfits! Oh I’m still so happy he’s back for this one!
1:24 – I know I questioned eariler if Poe might end up flying the Falcon for a bit, but I don’t think Lando would let him now XP
1:26 – All the bittersweet feels. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be crying when the credits start rolling.
1:28 – Looks like some kind of battle going on. With some kind of speederbike! Hehe I love speederbikes!
1:30 – THREEPIO!! Oh my gracious I didn’t even remember he was there! (Yes I’m weird and only watched the teaser one time the day it came out. But hey I wanted my thoughts on the blog to be fresh!) I have a feeling he and Poe won’t get along very well (same for Finn), but it’ll be delightful to watch!
1:32 – Whoa I didn’t even catch what was about to crash there! Hope it’s nobody I know…
1:33 – One of the medals of Yavin! Another great thing I somehow didn’t fully comprehend in my first viewing. Thank you StarWars.com for reminding me.
1:34 – Oh this shot is so precious. And again, it wasn’t until afterward that I remembered “Right… Carrie isn’t with us anymore. How. did. they. DO. that??” and my mind got so blown.
1:36 – THE FEELS!
1:38 – I so love this shot. Ever since the end of VIII, I’ve loved that it feels like Rey has found home in her friends in the Resistance, both new and old. I’m glad, as we’ve learned, that there’s a bigger time gap between VIII and IX, because that means we’ll get to see how much these great friendships have strengthened since then, and how they’ve shaped Rey into the more confident and fearless individual she is today. Again, all the feels!!
1:39 – My first reaction was, of course, a continued sense of awe and mystery. But it was thanks to my brother’s observations that I finally took notice that those ruins look awfully Death Star-like… which might explain what happens next.
1:43 – “No one’s every really gone.” is such a beautiful line! Or again, so it seems…
1:46 – My exact reaction: my jaw dropped, somewhere in between a gasp and a smile, and I slammed my hands down on the desk and remarked “OH MY GOODNESS, WHAT?!” I don’t know if I’ve ever felt such a wild mixture of shock, horror, and pure joy! I don’t know what it all means, whether he’s survived those Death Star ruins all these years, or if he’s gained some form of Sith immortality or what, but I am so looking forward to seeing what Sidious is up to. I’m sorry for the Resistance’s sake, but… there are just some villains who, despite they are so vile and so detestable, you love them anyway, and you greet them with open arms! Yeah that may have been the best villain reveal ever. Period. In all of film trailer history.
1:56 – And whoa such a cool title! It leaves me with endless questions, though. Who’s the Skywalker we’re talking about? Luke, because he’s “risen” to a place of immortality? Kylo, because he is part Skywalker? Rey, because she actually is a Skywalker somehow, like the granddaughter of Shmi’s second cousin like I theorized?? I do not know but, OH WOW THIS WAS WORTH WAITING FOR!

So yep I’m still not over it, are you? Not sure I ever will be! You guys, it is good being a Star Wars fan! Anyway, I’ll keep working on the Resistance posts from here, and hopefully whatever else exciting comes next in the SW galaxy!

Keep the peace,

#CloneWarsSaved!

As I watched the last episode of The Lost Missions four years ago, I was perfectly happy with how The Clone Wars was going to end. To see Yoda complete his journey of self-discovery with a seed of hope… that was amazing, and it was all I needed. I never demanded they “save The Clone Wars”. I was content whether they did more or didn’t. I still love watching the reruns once a week, and Rebels, Freemakers, and Forces Of Destiny have given me more wonderful animated Star Wars adventures than I ever could’ve hoped for. Not to mention the countless other Star Wars stories in books and film! Plus, they gave me the incredible storyreels and lots of neat unfinished TCW footage elsewhere. The Clone Wars didn’t need to be “saved”, really, because there’s never been a time for me it was not alive and well!

And then suddenly, there it was.
SDCC 2018: STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS TO RETURN WITH NEW EPISODES

My jaw was on the floor, and I think time stood still for a moment.

I don’t think I have ever been so surprised at a piece of Star Wars news ever. But I also think I’ve never been this incredibly happy at a piece of Star Wars news, either — and that’s saying something!

My brother was hoping for more Clone Wars for years. I kept saying “It’s not likely, man. But it’s cool, ’cause there’s plenty more SW to go around.” That makes this, I think, the third or fourth time his SW assumptions have been right and I’ve been wrong. Welp, like I often say on this blog, I’m so glad to be wrong!

JUST LOOK AT THIS BEAUTIFUL TRAILER.

Just seeing those helmets and hearing those voices would’ve been enough. It gave me chills and brought back to mind so many memories from over the years.

And then… there was Anaxes. And Bad Batcher Hunter. Not as we’d seen them before in unfinished storyreels, but in glorious final animation, effects, and lighting, the way they were meant to be seen. My heart soared at the sight. Likely, this means eight of the twelve new episodes will be the completed Crystal Crisis and Bad Batch arcs. Even if it means we only get one new storyarc, the thought of seeing these incredible episodes fully polished off has me deliriously happy! Plus, hopefully this means there really will be action figures of the Bad Batch like I’ve always wanted! Just the notion has me happier than Wrecker with a box full of explosives! 😀

And just when I thought my mind couldn’t get any more blown…
It’s Anakin, with his curly Revenge Of The Sith hair.
And Obi-Wan, with a meticulously-simulated robe.
The details in the animation got me like whoa. The animation’s always been great, but it suddenly hit me now just how much has changed from 2008 to 2018. Everything about it is utterly stunning. And like say, the new little details in the character designs are everything.

Then… there stood Ahsoka.
And Bo-Katan.
Suddenly, I knew this story. It’s the one Mr. Filoni always had in mind, the one I heard a little about at Celebration 2016. The ultimate finale, the siege of Mandalore.
Seeing Anakin and Ahsoka reunite, having an idea of their last goodbye… not to mention the fact she looks so grown-up, and so perfectly designed to fit in between TCW and Rebels. The feels were absolutely everywhere, and the fangirling has not ceased.

It feels like coming home, y’know? I’m pretty sure you know what I mean, fellow TCW fan.

Now I want to sign up for that Disney streaming service even more! But I still will need to buy all these as digitals or on DVD. I think I’ll be needin’ to complete my Clone Wars collection! 🙂

No TCW didn’t need saving, but I’m ever so thankful they did anyway!

We’ll talk more as new stuff comes out and new news is released. To life never without Star Wars!

The Resistance Is Coming!

ICYMI, on the very day I finished my post on the last episode of Star Wars Rebels, this image popped up on my feed with a very important announcement…

This is the next Star Wars animated series, and it’s coming this Fall.

Needless to say, my head exploded a little. For a number of reasons.

My immediate first thought was “Hey! I was right!
As those of you who’ve read this blog a while know, I rarely make accurate predictions with Star Wars, but this was one of those rare times. I figured the next move would be to the between-VI-and-VII era, because there’s so much story to tell there. I also wondered whether they might do it in 2D animation for something different (not because I don’t love the CG, but because I love both styles). And they’re doing both for this! So excited!

Even though we don’t have too much of an idea as to what Resistance will look like, what we have seen looks gorgeous. I’m all for this anime-like vibe! And I seriously could just stare at that blue cloud-filled sky and that lightning-fast ship all day. BB-8 looks great, too, and promises some epic character design to come! With the past series’ Amy Beth Christenson art-directing, it couldn’t be anything but epic.

And I’m absolutely all for getting to dig further into Leia’s brave Resistance, as well as the galaxy, at this point in time. There’s so much I don’t know! Though I have a good idea of how things work from the films, that’s just about where my understanding of the Resistance ends. Except for the little bits with Jess Pava and C-3PO in Jason Fry’s The Weapon Of A Jedi, and reading the occasional factoid on StarWars.com. Even though I’m even more Star Wars-studied than I was then, this feels just like when I was going into Rebels for the first time. I know the very basics of what’s coming. There will be space battles and x-wings, friendship and teamwork, red-orange flightsuits and stormtrooper armor. Those are part of much of the Star Wars fabric, especially in this era, but it will be so much more. For all we know now, even maybe for those of you who’ve read more of the books and played more of the games than I have at this juncture, there will still be so much we don’t know. And isn’t it great always having more to learn about Star Wars? 😀

The series concept has a lot going for it that I’m really excited about. I like that we’ll get to see the everyday heroes of the Resistance take the stage. I love the Jedi, of course, but I also love the idea of following a protagonist who defends peace and justice in a different way with a different skill set. Now, I am aware I’m just assuming. Our new friend Kazuda could very well have the Force on his side. But either way, a story from a newly-recruited young (I’m gathering to maybe mean inexperienced) Res pilot sounds like a solid story to me!

And really, I’m just so glad it’s coming this year. With Solo coming out so early, I was admittedly a little bummed we wouldn’t get a film released around Christmas like before. The premiere episode will fill in that gap perfectly! Thank you, Mr. Filoni and crew!

I gotta tell ya, it’s so hard not to immediately throw assumptions everywhere over how it’s going to look and what it’ll feel like. I already imagine Kazuda Xiono as someone sort of Ezra-like — with a dark anime-like mop of hair to go with it! I find myself wondering often over different elements, whether something’s going to be a bit more like this in Rebels or that in The Clone Wars, or more like such-and-such in FoD or maybe a bit like Tartakovsky’s microseries. It’s easy to imagine and theorize and try to figure things out ahead of time, but none of us really know, and I have to work hard to remember to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the mystery while it’s still a mystery, because there’s so much magic in the mystery, in the not-yet-knowing, in the anticipation!

Now let’s do just that while we wait for the first bit of new news…

And also listen to what I’m considering the unofficial theme song on repeat.

A Totally Fangirly Analysis Of The Solo Trailer!

Oh wow where do I even begin with this? I’ve been excited about Solo from day one, and I’m frankly mad it took me this long to say anything on the main blog about it! One of my favoritest of favorite characters is getting his own Anthology film!! That’s kinda a HUGE deal! So let’s rewatch this awesome trailer and then I’ll give you my near-second-by-second breakdown on what’s got me fangirlin’! 😀

Contains spoilers from the trailer (of course) and some of the films before it.

0:00 – First thought: wow is that a guitar? LOVE.
0:03 – Ooh cute critter there! I wonder if it’s a puppet or digital or a real animal? (As you can tell, I really love rodents)
0:06 – Man this is a sad-looking side of town…
0:08 – OHHH I RECOGNIZE THAT SILHOUETTE!
0:10 – AND I KNOW THAT FACE! Oh right I should be paying attention the narration. I’m really bad at that sometimes. What happened to you, boy…?
0:11 – Then we go from the shadows to a stark white, bright world that has very much captured my attention.
0:13 – OOH buddy this gon’ be fun. Probably dangerous, but fun.
0:14 – I’m all about these costume designs, guys. So cool!
0:18 – There’s something about a shady, dark room full of new crazy cool aliens that brings out my geekiness something fierce. You guys get it, right?
0:19 – LOOK AT THAT CONFIDENCE. THERE IS SO MUCH CONFIDENCE THERE.
0:22 – I still remember the first time I saw Alden Ehrenreich and how I was absolutely stunned by how much he looked like a young Han. I knew there was no way they wouldn’t cast the right guy for the role, but… I didn’t know there was any actor this perfect out there. In this shot alone, you can see so much of his familiar swagger, but at the same time, a youthful curiosity that presents a new angle on a guy we typically think of as jaded.
0:23 – AHH CHEWIE!! Oh it’s going to be a wonderfully epic getting to see this iconic friendship come to be! I’m already gettin’ the feels just thinking about it!
0:25 – AND AHH THE FALCON! How’d I miss that a sec ago?
0:30 – I’m looking forward to learning more about Qi’ra for sure. Not just because clearly there will be some delightful bantering between her and Han, but she also seems to be a very observant, insightful character, if the narration the last couple trailers can be believed.
0:33 – Also can’t wait to meet Tobias Beckett. We haven’t learned much about him yet and I’m intrigued. Also hey this is the first time in a while I’ve seen an actor I already knew in a Star Wars film (aside from voice acting and mocap work, anyway). Go Woody Harrelson!
0:35 – Some more epic-looking characters that just drip with iconicness!
0:36 – Ooh what’s Han driving here?
0:37 – One fast (but adorably rusty) landspeeder that’s what!
0:39 – It’s good to know the term “driving” actually exists in the SW galaxy. Sometimes I get confused over whether it counts as “flying” something if the vehicle hovers.
0:40 – YES! You know I love chase scenes!
0:41 – Those ships! That scenery! I’m in awe!
0:42 – Intense Solo is intense.
0:43 – Whoa dang what’s even going on here???
0:45 – Yet another character we don’t know much about but who looks totally awesome. But I actually appreciate they’re keeping so much under wraps. Gives us a ton of exciting new stuff to discover later!
0:47 – Han, meet blaster. Blaster, meet Han.
0:48 – What do I think? I think that I’m gonna have serious trouble waiting until May 25th!
0:49 – Actually, I think that’s Shryiiwook (pardon my spelling) for “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” XP
0:51 – Oh wow I just realized that this looks a little like a snowy Kashyyyk! Like one of its poles, maybe!
0:53 – Really into all this dramatic lighting right now.
0:56 – LANDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
1:02 – SO. PERFECT. SO. LANDO. I can’t tell you how much I love Donald Glover’s performance. Ever since that first grin in that first teaser, I knew he truly was perfect for the role!
1:03 – Chewie sounds like he finds this genuinely funny. But on his face, I feel I’m reading more of a sarcastic chuckle… which would make sense if Lando was involved.
1:05 – Finally getting to meet L3-37!
1:07 – And she’s already made the list of fave droids.
1:08 – *Quietly thinks that L3 and K-2SO would’ve made a good couple had their paths ever crossed*
1:09 – The image of Han touching the Falcon for (presumably) the first time gives me some chills.
1:10 – What an absolute beaut’! I’m still not over how good the ship looked in her glory days!
1:11 – I mean, wow, it’s so white.
1:14 – And yet… Han was meant for so much more than just “this life”… 🙂
1:18 – If that new live-action series solely centered around Lando and L3’s misadventures, I would not complain. ‘Cause they’ve clearly had a lot of them.
1:20 – As of today, only a month and nine days away. Still feels much too long.
1:21 – I cannot wait to see what a train heist in Star Wars looks like. Well, right… technically we’ve seen one in The Clone Wars, but still! Every second is thrilling!
1:23 – Here come the range troopers! Oh they look so powerful and so epic! Also just glad to see some bucketheads around, ’cause I’d miss them if they weren’t, honestly.
1:24 – Of course, I’m sure Han would rather they not be here on the train right at this moment. Can’t a man pull off a heist in peace anymore?? 😛
1:28 – *Continues to be dazzled by the visuals to the point she forgets to say anything useful*
1:29 – Another mystery character, but that’s a really nice cape. Who wants to bet Lando steals his first one from her? XD
1:30 – Wow is it just me, or does that walker look seriously tougher than the garden variety brand of walkers?
1:33 – Awww wookiee hugs! But with who…? *Crosses fingers hoping it’ll be the first canon female wookiee we get to see*
1:35 – You gotta love this slightly-more-enthusiastic side Han once had! I’ve got a great feeling about this!
1:37 – These space battles OMG!
1:45 – *Dies laughing for the next couple minutes*
1:46 – THESE VFX ARE GLORIOUS.
1:49 – I’M SO HYPED.
1:50 – I’M SORRY THIS ISN’T MY MOST INTELLECTUAL POST, AND THAT I CAN’T STOP WRITING IN ALL-CAPS, BUT OH SO WOW!!!
1:52 – Ooh this looks cool. And a bit frightening.
1:55 – I love when Chewie just throws people like that. Such a boss!
1:56 – I really want a replica of Qi’ra’s jacket. Her Universe, take note.
1:59 – I agree, L3– OH NOOOO CHEWIEEEEE!!! :O
2:03 – Considering I just watched him in Force Awakens the other day I guess he made it, but… still! So tense!
2:06 – But the reigning emotion right now can be summed up in four words: this. looks. so. FUN!!

It might not sound like much to say “it’s so fun”, considering all the films have fun moments. But I would say this is the most upbeat and thrilling trailer we’ve seen in a while, and it just makes me ridiculously happy to watch. I’m so ready for Solo.

Anyway, we’ll certainly talk more ’bout my bro Han at a later date. Thanks for reading this and joining in on my excitement!

A Very Fangirly Analysis Of The New Last Jedi Trailer

Anyone else spend the majority of their time online yesterday staring at the Star Wars Youtube channel waiting for the new trailer?
Yeah, so did I. That might’ve been the most agonizing wait in the history of Star Wars. I mean… the last couple years, they debuted the trailers during a certain program so you’d get a general idea of the time, but not this year. My eyes were sore from constantly checking the computer by the time it popped up around 10pm-ish. But oh my land it was so worth the wait. SO SO WORTH IT.
In the tradition of past analyses, I will give you my personal (almost) second-by-second breakdown of my thoughts and theories. Now, let’s watch it again!

Contains some spoilers from Episode VII and some of the other films before it.

0:00 – From the first shot onward, my jaw dropped, and my mouth refused to close again until the trailer’s end.
0:01 – It’s Kylo Ren, and he’s got something heavy on his mind, it seems.
0:02 – It took me a second viewing to realize he was overlooking a factory. The wavery watery look of the glass made me first think it was an aquarium of some sort, or maybe an aquatic opera like Palpatine used to enjoy.
0:04 – Snoke still has one of the scariest voices of all time. Without a shadow of doubt. He got me so intrigued. Seriously, how did a nice kid like Ben end up with a dark master like this guy?
0:06 – AHHHHHH THESE WALKERS THAT I CAN’T REMEMBER THE NAME OF!! THEY ARE MAGNIFICENT! AND TERRIFYING!
0:08 – What you mean by “war” exactly? That he was conflicted, that he was a strong fighter, or a little of both? Y’know OMG I just wondered if maybe the whole narration is a ruse, and it sounds like Snoke is talking to Kylo but maybe it’s some point that he’s talking to Rey? Might be off but with Star Wars you’ve gotta look at it from all angles.
0:11 – Such a dynamic image wow. And hmm look at those streaks of red on the floor! There’s a lot of red in this trailer and I can’t help but wonder what it all means…
0:15 – See look! There’s red on the walls here! It’s visually appealing, but you guys know in SW, nothing is there just for looks.
0:17 – I’m still trying to figure out if this is a new lightsaber or not. Unless my memory’s failed me I’m pretty sure he lost it in the duel on Starkiller Base. So… did he just get it repaired or did he find another one that looks exactly like it? Whatever the case I’m glad; it’s so awesomely iconic I can’t imagine Ren wielding anything else.
0:22 – Andy Serkis be givin’ me chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiills here. How does he do it??
0:23 – But then we cut over to Rey! Wonder why exactly? Oh that Skywalker ‘saber is still so cool though…
0:25 – Also wow are those skies blue. I need a ticket to the place they filmed Ach-To asap.
0:29 – The Lucasfilm logo will always strike me with the thought: “HOLD ON TO YOUR POTATOES, EPICNESS IS ABOUT THE HAPPEN!”
0:31 – #VacationGoals #ThatWasATotalUnderstatement
0:35 – WE’RE FINALLY SEEING THE MASTER AND APPRENTICE COMING TOGETHER AND I CAN’T GET OVER IT.
0:37 – I hardly know how to put my thoughts into words. So many emotions here.
0:39 – I not only want a vacation on Ach-To, I also want a cape like Rey’s.
0:41 – It’s that mystery place again! Oooh!
0:44 – Every time I see this shot, my eyes widen. It’s a reflex to something that massively beautiful.
0:45 – Rey wielding that lightsaber is so utterly perfect. It’s like she was meant to wield it somehow. Nothing we don’t already know, of course, but I still remember what it was like when the trailers were making it look like Finn’s lightsaber. Seeing her taking it and owning it makes me so proud 🙂
0:48 – Wait did she direct the Force through the ‘saber to the ground?? Or was that just really cool editing?? Either way WHOAAA.
0:49 – Never mind that was apparently just good editing since Rey’s standing in a different spot now.
0:50 – Another one of my favorite shots we’ve seen so far. So completely mind-blowing!
0:53 – Mark Hamill is so so amazing in this. I really really cannot wait to hear and see more of Luke in this new time and place.
0:55 – I assumed this was Luke’s hand but now I’m not so sure…
0:57 – I figured Luke would have some uncertainties with training Rey, but I never thought he’d see some of what was in Ren in her. At least, that’s what I’m assuming he’s talking about. This getting intense.
1:00 – Yeah Luke doesn’t look thrilled. That is the face of “NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE!
1:01 – Also dang are Luke’s eyes blue. Not that I didn’t know this already but the HD is really working nicely here.
1:02 – Rey is like “say wat now?”
1:06 – OH THIS POOR CONFLICTED CHILD…
1:07 – I’m glad to see his face healed up better than I expected it to, though.
1:08 – That boy has one impressive throwing arm.
1:10 – INTENSITY LEVELS RISING.
1:12 – IT’S THE TIE SILENCER OMG!! I’ve jokingly called it the Bat-TIE because it’s sleek shape calls to mind the Batmobile. But this beautiful punisher is definitely no joke with Kylo behind the controls…
1:15 – These visual effects are music to my… eyes. Wait that sentence doesn’t make sense.
1:18 – NOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU WOULDN’T…!
1:19 – THESE SHOTS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFY ME.
1:22 – AND MAKE ME WEEP FOR ALL THIS ONCE-BEAUTIFUL FAMILY HAS LOST.
1:25 – *Curls up into a ball and cries for several minutes*
1:27 – It’s only two months and five days away, but it still feels so far…
1:29 – The Falcon!! And again a whole lot of red. Is it representing the dark side or something else?
1:31 – AHH IT’S CHEWIE!! He’s looking amazinggg!
1:33 – PORGS. ARE. EVERYTHING. MY GOSH.
1:35 – Hey there Poe!
1:36 – Nobody says epic inspiring motivational stuff like Poe Dameron does. BURN IT DOWN, BOY! BURN IT ALLLLLL THE WAY DOWN!!
1:40 – And I’m not sure anybody can make an entrance as epically as Captain Phasma does.
1:41 – Safe to say though that Finn’s not impressed with his former boss.
1:42 – FINN ‘BOUT TO BRING IT! YAAAAAAS!!
1:44 – Not sure what else to say here, just still reeling in the amazingness of it all.
1:45 – NONONONO YOU GOTTA BE OK, BB-8!
1:46 – Luke sounds so intense here wow.
1:47 – Oooh check out these snow cats I want one!
1:49 – Hey there’s Leia! But I’m still unclear what she’s standing there for… and where she’s standing… so many questions! So much uncertainty!
1:50 – Wonder where Rey’s taking this dive?
1:52 – Who’s that she’s facing down?? It goes by so fast I literally don’t know.
1:53 – I can’t help but wonder what Finn’s doing in First Order garb right now. I’m assuming it’s an undercover thing… or maybe an undercover thing that was a complete accident because he wasn’t intending on going undercover but he ended up on a First Order ship and had to think fast. I NEED TO KNOW.
1:55 – OOOh buddy the First Order’s looking sharp… and that’s not good for the Resistance.
1:56 – More red going on over here. I don’t know what the imagery means for sure, but I love imagery in filmmaking nonetheless.
1:57 – I’m definitely glad to know those nifty speeders are the Resistance’s now. They’re so awesome and different I assumed they might belong to some other group of antagonists, but this is much better.
1:59 – IT’S SNOKE! IN THE FLESH! YIKES HE’S STILL SO FRIGHTENING, BUT SO INTRIGUING! Also dang I hope Rey’s gonna be OK..
2:12 – My literal reaction after seeing this: “WHAT?! WAT. WAT. WHAT. WAHT. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??!” Translation: “What could Rey possibly gain from Ren? What could he gain from her? What. does. this. mean??

One of the many reasons I love Star Wars is because of how it balances dark and light, simultaneously making me go from joy to excitement to fear to sadness and back around again. Star Wars truly makes me experience all emotions, even in the period of a two-minute trailer. I also love the way they portray heroes and villains and how they’re not always all dark or all light. Though it’s left me with endless questions, I love that last image of a conflicted villain holding out his hand to a perhaps equally-conflicted hero. I knew this trailer would be amazing, I just couldn’t grasp or imagine how much more so it would be. It’s left me utterly astounded in the best way possible.

Again, so worth the wait. Now… we just have to wait a little tiny bit longer…

Keep The Peace,
